AICN Exclusive BUNRAKU Clip! See Ron Perlman Give A Badass Speech!

Published at:  Aug 19, 2011 8:02:18 AM CDT

Nordling here.

I haven't seen BUNRAKU yet but everything I've seen so far makes it look like a ton of fun.  In this scene we get one of our favorite people, Ron Perlman, do the slow burn on his number 2, played by Kevin McKidd.  I especially love the look of the film - basically it's greenscreen work but the effect of it is that everything looks large in scope.  Here Perlman quietly threatens his subordinate and I hope we see Perlman unleashed in the finished film.  BUNRAKU opens in theaters September 30th but will be on VOD September 1st.  Enjoy!

Nordling, out.

    Not so good, folks.

I saw this at the Toronto Film Festival last year and while it has a unique aesthetic and some good ideas, it fell very flat to me and was probably the bottom of the heap in the Midnight Madness program.

I wanted to like it, I really did, but the pacing and the dialogue didn't meet expectations.

So the valium he took to sleepwalk in Conan

finally wore off? Fuck Perlman, he's jumped the shark and Hellboy is now in the distant past. Seriously, he could have at least acted like he cared about his job in Conan.

He's doing quite well on Sons of Anarchy. Maybe he should just stay away from the genre stuff for a while (or pick better scripts).

    Looks cheap.

The background green screen just looks like a terrible canvas backdrop from 1950s B-Movie. The dialogue and art direction looks like one of those fan-made "trailers" for an existing super-hero property.

  • After that, he can retire, or maybe take up snowboarding or something. His career will be complete. But until then? I will not let him rest.

Please, please tell me you don't think that QT invented that aesthetic.

Seriously, aren't we all getting tired of Ron Perlman?

Take a rest, Ron. You're over exposed.
