NBC Outbids ABC For New
SARAH SILVERMAN Sitcom!!
UPDATE: NBC, home of Whitney Cummings' "Whitney," won the bidding war. If the Silverman project goes to series, NBC will have two sitcoms written by and starring hot Jewish girls.

Two broadcast networks are in a hot bidding war for a new sitcom from recent basic-cable cast-off Sarah Silverman.
The new sitcom would star Silverman and be written by Silverman, Dan Sterling and Jon Schroeder, the trio who masterminded Comedy Central’s “The Sarah Silverman Program.”
(A fourth “Sarah Silverman Program” creator, Dan Harmon, left “Program” early on to create NBC’s acclaimed “Community.”)
The sitcom would be based on Silverman’s life, following a woman who finds herself single after living with her boyfriend for a decade.
According to Deadline, Ron Howard is godfathering the project, personally contributing to its pitch meetings.

I have tried many times to watch Sarah on CC or whatever. It ALWAYS starts with, oh my crap is blue today or some garbage....crickets.... If she IS putting out good material maybe she should put that in the front and not the sludge she dumps in the can every morning. Geez I watched Dennis Leary on an HBO special the other day. AHAHAHAHA - this whole talkback is too hilarious. I wasn't all that high on "Jesus Is Magic", but I thought the "Program" was a brilliant series. Obviously, humor is a subjective thing, but to see this kind of seething venom on an AICN talkback for someone like (a smart hot woman) Silverman is pretty telling of AICN in general. When she was hosting whatever fucking awards show that was (fuck if I know which one), and she RIPPED THE BLACK FESTERING HEART OUT OF PARIS HILTON. Anyone else remember this? Paris Hilton was crying about how hurt she was, and even the media was coming to her defense, saying Silverman had gone to far. I think Silverman's reply was along the lines of (paraphrasing)"Like I give a fuck". Silverman basically showed Paris Hilton what a complete waste of human being she was, and I believe it is because of her act alone that we are no longer inundated with Paris Hilton 24/7. Seriously? SERIOUSLY? A BIDDING WAR over fucking Sarah Silverman??? News Flash: if she was REALLY worth the money and acclaim, why wouldn't she still be doing her cable show, to astounding ratings? More to the point, why wouldn't far more stations be bidding to GET HER...you know, to secure such Earth shaking talent... ...as opposed to two FAILING networks, who trip over themselves repeatedly and who can't generate successful shows if their very lives depended on it? There's only TWO reasons NBC and ABC would end up in a bidding war... ONE -- being the completely uncreative, totally clueless suits that they are, the execs at both networks think they can catch "lightning in a bottle" by giving someone who was ONCE a semi-hot person a new show. The only problem being that Silverman's prior success was a one note act that people got tired of, which is why her time came and went fairly fast. Let's be honest here -- she was never more than a semi "okay" looking girl (NOT hot, just okay) who talked like the snottiest, sluttiest, stupidest bitch you could ever imagine -- so any entertainment came purely from shock value alone and nothing else. TWO -- given that this is Hollywood, land of incestuous inside deals and such, the only other reason I can think of is that she must give AMAZING blow jobs under the conference room table, right after the pitch meeting. At the very least, for anyone who doesn't live or work here in Hollywood -- trust me -- that helps to explain why so many atrocious things get develop deals or a greenlit pilot, before any commitment to series occurs. And for THAT to occur, you'd better be one all-out FANTASTIC FUCK in bed, who can do every position in the Kama Sutra no questions asked...!

They suck so hard they make present day AICN look good in comparison Also, it's hard to get on board the Silverman Hate Train when we have apparent resident anti-semite professor_monster riding the rails. Fuck's sake.. not someone to be aligned with if you want to make a case, guys. I thought the CC series was pretty damn ballsy in that it wasn't afraid to skewer anyone. I don't hold out much hope for this new DisneyTV series, as there is NO FUCKING WAY she'll be able to get away with what she was on CC. It's funny to how Ricky Gervais was elevated to GOD-TIER (rightly so) for doing basically the same thing Silverman did a few years earlier and there's no where near the sort of backlash for him.

...but the requisite IMDB search reminded me of Silverman's recent appearance on The Good Wife, where she played a lady who ran a site for "open marriage" types looking to hook up, based on her own "open marriage." I say she looked more than hot enough for the job. As for her comedy, I skimmed past her Comedy Central show and didn't care for it, but the "I'm Fucking Matt Damon" video is pure gold. Most sitcoms blow chunks, so I hold little hope for ANY of them, regardless of who's running it or starring. Kat Denning looks smokin' hot in the previews I've seen of "2 Broke Girls," but the actual show looks like a fucking train wreck.

is not funny. I saw the sarah silverman show disaster a couple of years when it showed up on comedy central here in ireland. none of it was remotely funny. I couldnt really get a handle on it. Was a drama? wasnt well acted enough to be a drama, wasnt funny enough to be a comedy and then there were these weird musical numbers. the whole thing was an utter mess. stop giving her work.

The whole tenor of this article is ugly. It started with the editorial decision by AICN to use only sexy pictures of her instead of the generic headshots they use for every other actor/actress. It basically enabled all the emotionally-stunted dudes on this board to indulge their inner pig. She's a unique voice in an otherwise boring sea of comedic mediocrity. To be honest, I think she and Sacha Baron Cohen are the only comedians doing anything interesting these days.

Sarah Silverman has more talent and humor in her clit than the rest of the AICN posters in this thread combined. 2. Sarah Silverman Show on comedy central was awesome -- not everyone's cup of tea comedy wise. But saying she sucks because you don't like her style of humor is like coming on here and calling some other good movie shit just because it's not your type of movie. 3. Agree networks are insane about this. Fan of her humor and show, but if she couldn't make it on comedy central with it how could she make it on network tv??? And most of her humor will have to be filtered for network TV -- I guarantee you even if what she comes up with is good some NBC network schlub is going to water it down so that it isn't. Not to mention, NBC has a history of putting up quirky comedies that are good, but are either not promoted or put up against highly rated shows so they get cancelled. So why bother? This is just doomed to be cancelled.

I don't understand the concept. What elements of her humor are going to make it past the network TV censors? She'll either be off the air in a month for offending someone, or it'll be tedious and unwatchable. NBC is not the right home for this.
