AICN HORROR EXCLUSIVE: Check out an exclusive clip of Álex de la Iglesia’s THE LAST CIRCUS! One of Ambush Bug’s favorite films of the year!!!

Ambush Bug here. I’ll be doing my full review of Álex de la Iglesia’s THE LAST CIRCUS this Friday on AICN HORROR, but I will say that it is by far my favorite film I’ve seen this year. It is simply the most unique cinematic film experience I’ve encountered in ages. It’s got a dap of horror, a pinch of romance, and a dollop of the superhero genre. And it’s set in a circus with the scariest clowns you’ll ever see. The film opens in limited release this weekend (August 19th) and I can’t recommend it more adamantly!

This exclusive clip is just a snippet of the insanity! Enojy!

Check out this redband clip of the film.

And if you want a bit more, here’s the trailer for the film.

Seek out THE LAST CIRCUS this weekend! You can thank me later. Find out when and where you can see this on the film’s website and Facebook page!

    Christ, it's out already

    by IWasInJuniorHighDickhead

that's what I get for moving abroad. One clown in that rivalled Pennywise.
No one told me Hesher has been released, either. Great film, I thought.

It's been out on blu-ray for ages. I've watched the first hour and it bored the pants off me. I don't get the aicn love for it. I'll watch the rest of it at some point.

What can i tell you ? I found it boring. I watched up to the bit in the cafe when the revolting drunk circus guy has sex with that woman against the wall the the main sad clown guy is hiding or he's just escaped. Does something revelatory happen after that ? I'm glad you think its one of the best films in the last 10 years but i didn't.

Good God, I'll pass on this insanity

    OK, just watched it

    by IWasInJuniorHighDickhead

It's pretty much batshit insane, about four genres in one film. Starts out fantastically but becomes quite slapdash as it goes on. Characters behave erratically. Bits of it remind me of Inglourious Basterds, and the last third feels like something out of a Palahniuk novel.
But I like it, a damn interesting film. Worth buying for the first ten minutes, if you think you'd enjoy a scary black-eyed clown tearing shit up with a machete in the Spanish Civil War.

  • Aug. 16, 2011, 7:10 p.m. CST

    I meant the middle third

    by IWasInJuniorHighDickhead

the last third, I don't even know how to describe. The end of Burton's Batman meets The Phantom of the Opera? Don't think i've ever seen a film quite like it. Growing on me by the minute.

    wow, no activity here?

    by IWasInJuniorHighDickhead

I hate artificial hype a la Attack The Block but this film really does need to be seen. I've watched it again today and it just gets better. The occasional clunkiness of the (subtitled) script I can put down to not being a native Spanish speaker, but apart from that it is a ducking awesome film. You have Lynch, Jodorowsky, Fincher, Tarantino in here. You even have a 'tooling up' scene better than Commando, something I never thought i'd say. I feel like I felt after I watched REC. The Spanish Are Coming, I guess.

I went back and watched the rest of this. I honestly don't know the words to describe how terrible this film is. I can't believe I wasted an hour and forty minutes of my life watching that shit. Avoid.

Hi I just thought it was retarded on every conceivable level. I couldn't have cared less about any of the characters and the film starts off totally bonkers and just descends from there. Perhaps that was the point I don't know. Perhaps if i knew more about Spanish history i might appreciate it more. I enjoy watching foreign films but this just did nothing for me although I will freely admit that it was visually unlike anything I had seen before and the director is clearly talented but perhaps needs some focus as opposed to just throwing everything in the pot and seeing what happens. That's just my humble opinion....
