After tonight, AMC still has eight more season-four episodes to air this summer, and now AMC has just ordered 16 more episodes that will conclude the series. AMC may or may not split those final 16 episodes between 2012 and 2013.

Network Orders 16 Episodes to Conclude Series
New York – NY, August, 14, 2011 – AMC announced today that “Breaking Bad,” the Emmy® Award-winning and critically lauded drama series from acclaimed writer/producer/director Vince Gilligan has been renewed for a 16 episode order that will conclude the series.
Production on all episodes of the final order will commence in early 2012. The roll-out of the episodes and premiere date schedule has yet to be determined by the network. The announcement was made by Charlie Collier, president of AMC.
“Breaking Bad’s” fourth season premiered on Sunday, July 18th to the highest ratings ever for the series. Household ratings are 30% stronger than season three and season four is delivering 28% more total viewers and over 45% more adults 18-34 than last season.
The series was recognized as “…the most complete and extraordinary show on TV” by Entertainment Weekly while Daily Variety called it “the most addictive show on the air.”

“Breaking Bad” is filmed on location in Albuquerque, NM. The series first premiered on AMC in January 2008 and follows protagonist Walter White, a milquetoast high school chemistry teacher who lives in New Mexico with his wife, teenage son who has cerebral palsy and a new baby girl. White is diagnosed with Stage III cancer and given a prognosis of two years left to live. With a new sense of fearlessness based on his medical prognosis, and a desire to gain financial security for his family, White chooses to enter a dangerous world of drugs and crime and ascends to power in this world. The series explores how a fatal diagnosis such as White’s releases a typical man from the daily concerns and constraints of normal society and follows his transformation from mild-mannered family man to a kingpin of the drug trade.

* Tonight’s episode begins in an exciting manner with Walt menacing traffic as he races toward Los Pollos Hermanos. He makes some panicked phone calls as he does so, including one that will have an unintended consequence before episode’s end.
* Spoiler: Walt gets to Los Pollos in one piece. The scene there will remind some of Dennis Weaver in “Duel.”
* Good line: “I’m crossing my heart, Walter.”
* The first thing Mike does when he stops the car in the middle of the desert is crack the truck. There’s a shovel in there. It’s not there long.
* Mike’s role this week and next is central and enormously entertaining. Jonathan Banks has grown even more compelling as a performer since his glorious “Wiseguy” days, and makes me crave more than anything a Mike spin-off. He is stealing this show.
* His brain swimming in wine and hubris, Walt will tonight make an error he seems destined to regret forever.
