Mr Pink Looks At The Script For JASON X
Ahhh... it's the resurrection of the ol... "IT! THE TERROR FROM BEYOND SPACE" routine eh? Hmmm... Well, if they had a planet destroying bomb that became sentient that the pilots had to talk back into the bomb bay... well it could be a gorey remake of DARK STAR. That could be fun. Or what was that robot movie, SATURN 5 or something? Or perhaps it's the 'reverse' of OUTLAND. Well, anyways... here we go..
Just for the hell of it, call me Mister Pink.
To start, Jason was never my cup of tea. In the Freddy or Jason debates,
I was all for Freddy and his mind-twisting creativity and creepiness.
There was nothing even remotely creepy to me about a guy walking at
snail's pace while you run as fast possible, and yet he's always in front
of you. However, I've still always enjoyed a good Jason movie: the
constant change of weaponry, the inventive and gruesome kills, the
wonderfully fragile motivations for people to stop whatever they were
doing for the sake of getting it on. Does this film satisfy? Yeah. It's
inconsistent, but the parts that are good are just plain badass.
Plot: There's no resurrection scene, which upset me. The movie opens
to find him shackled Hannibal Lecter-style in a maximum-security area.
Like in the 9th, the police know about Jason (but, thank God, all that
spiritual stuff is out). They know he's impossible to kill. They know he
can't be stopped. And so they come up with the only solution possible:
make him someone else's problem. He is cryogenically frozen and not
rediscovered for another 500 years. Before they get to do so, he creates
some havoc, and a girl from our time is frozen with him. To sum up the
rest, an archeology class does the rediscovering and loads the two
popsicles onto their ship on their way back to Earth 2. They thaw, and
the rest of the film plays like Alien, with Jason recast as the
Alien.
This all sounds very dopey, but it actually works for me. All of
the conventions of the other films are done tried and true. Cool deaths,
change of weaponry, and plenty of horny college students screwing just
because, "hey, I've got a few minutes free. How about you?" Similarly to
the Alien deal, the film rips off a whole bunch of other movies, but it
all works; it's just a hell of a lot of fun. And there are a few things
that happen that I won't spoil because they truly do kick ass.
Now, given that I've given the script the best damned rating it could hope
for, I have one question: can they pull it off? Some of the best things
in this script require a hefty budget, and, y'know, traditionally the
Fridays have been bottom of the friggin' barrel. Any way you can find out
what the estimated budget is?
That's it, Harry. You seem to be a horror fan, and I hope this e-mail
finds you happy.

Well, ChrisKnight, that was damn near tragic.
-
but I'll probably be there. I have no will when it comes to bad sci-fi - haven't seen Supernova, but in a weird way I WANT to, ya know? Hell, I sat through Wing Commander.
-
I've seen the previous Jason's and I will see this one too.Nothing like good old T&A.
-
Let's be honest, nobody really has anything to say about this film. Jason films are bad. But you know this going in and yet we still go. Jason in space... Jason in the woods... same deal! The only saving graces in the whole series were Tom Savini's suberb effects in 1 & 4... but it looks like they've missed the boat here and are not going to let him direct, which is a shame. I've got nothing else to say about it. So there!

Ladies and gentlemen, the first truly bad idea of the new millen
by stephen dedalus
Remember how HALLOWEEN H20 came out a few years ago and sucked? That's because the people who made that movie pretended that the franchise had some type of importance in horror history. The truth was, it didn't. Yes, the original film was a fine examle of horror cinema, but everything else in the series was bottom-of-the-barrel crap. Now we have film-makers gearing up to pay "hommage" to the FRIDAY THE 13th series, probably getting ready to say that it moved the horror genre forward. But the FRIDAY THE 13th franchise DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING FOR HORROR MOVIES. If anything, it set them back, allowing one retarded slasher-series after another to imitate the so-called "success" at the box office. Correct me if I'm wrong, but were the last few films not flops? Face the facts, the Jason movies are not worth a crusty pubic hair on a rat's ass. And what does JASON X have to do with the rest of the series? NOTHING! IT'S SET IN OUTER SPACE, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! The other entries in the series could have flooded their budgets together and not come up with enough to finance a single explosion. You know, the more expensive movies get, and the more money Hollywood loses on them, the higher the ticket prices get. This is the junk that people are shelling out anywhere from $7 to $9 a pop for. Someone has to tell Hollywood to GROW THE FUCK UP.
-
Think of this as the "Moonraker" of Jason movies. Bond went into space, and later continued his earthbound career just fine. Personally, I'm looking forward to this movie. It'll be different, and a good time.

stephen dedalus there is something you dont really understand...
by slash
and that is the fact that everyone knows these are bad movies. NO ONE- the stars, directors, producers, etc., of Friday the 13th films have ever referred to the series, or any particular installment, as a quality film. they are going for entertaining, not oscar-worthy, here. these films ae not to be taken seriously, and no one does. jason x is not someone "paying hommage" to the original franchise as far as I know, but continuing it, whether in or out of continuity. but btw, they were classics is the sense that they inspired tons of ripoffs, and remember that even by the 3rd or 4th installment they had a sense of humor about the whole thing. i think you should get one of those.
-
You have a point- not even the people who made the movies took them seriously. But cheap slasher series like these put the horror genre in a state of limbo from which it hardly recovered, until recently, with groundbreakers like THE SIXTH SENSE. Movies like that have breathed life back into the genre, but now it looks like Hollywood is trying to continue the series, which- even if done in jest, or just for kicks- could keep us from moving forward.
-
The sad part is this idea was already done, on MADTV a few years ago. Jason somehow found his way onto a space shuttle... and terrorized everyone inside, be it the astronauts who he went after with an axe, or the two teens makin' bacon in the cockpit (who he got with a chainsaw... how he got them there, I dunno. It's a spoof fer Christ's sake.) Anyone else remember this skit?
-
And I hear that Todd McFarlane is willing to let David Fincher go from the SPAWN 2 project so that he can direct the new Jason feature! I just hope they get the costumes right, goddammit!
-
Yes the Jason movies are stupid and just barely pass for entertainment but at least this one seems to show some originality. It's still ripping off better movies but at least it's not just rehashing the same plot from the last film which is something the last several Jason films seemed to do. Just the idea of watching a bunch of cops freeze Jason would be worth an afternoon matinee showing. I'll be there.
-
That MAD TV sketch was great! The title was "Apollo the 13th," and it was one of a number of combined movie parodies they did (including "When Harry Met Willy," starring Billy Crystal and a whale, and "Menace II Stooges Society," based on the bizarre concept of the Three Stooges as drug dealers in a coke-fight instead of a pie-fight).

I haven't had the chance yet to see all of the Jason movies. I feel no desire to do so after the few that I have seen. If I was with a good crowd and in a good atmosphere for it, then sure, I'd shell out a few dollars to rent one or something. I love a good crappy horror movie as much as the next well-adjusted guy out there. But this Jason-X deal, from what I've read, sounds pure, concentrated and refined tedium. Jason didn't work in Manhattan so what the fuck makes people think he's going to be any more exciting in space. The only reason they've relocated him there is so he can kill people in new ways (ie, decompression and the like). However, all that this is going to do is give the film a chance to suck in two genres at once. I don't even think that Tom Savini could save this miscarraige. Get some lysol and bury it in the backyard with the last four or five.
Incidentally, if someone wants to see a good genre-bending horror movie, support the struggle to see Phantasm 2012 A.D. become a reality. Check out Mr. Coscarelli when he comes by and let him know the Phans are out there.

First of all, let me state that I am not exactly THRILLED to see that they're doing "JASON in SPACE"...It was done with HELLRAISER & LEPRECHAUN & they sucked...(I heard they even wanted to do it to Micheal Myers!)
New Line Cinema needs to get off their butts and give the fans what they REALLY want: THE FREDDY vs JASON movie that they've been teasing us with since 92'/93' when they bought the F13 rights from Paramount. Having followed this FvJ project from the beginning, I've heard it has gone through several writers, including Peter Briggs(Alien vs Predator), James Robinson, James S. Goyer(Blade), Rob Bottin, Ron Moore & Brannon Braga(Star Trek), Mark Verheiden(The Mask), etc...
Some of the ideas I've heard range from inventive to insipid.**NOTE TO NEW LINE** Whatever you do, DO NOT GIVE US CHEESY EXPLANATIONS LIKE FREDDY & JASON ARE BROTHERS OR THAT FREDDY WAS A JANITOR OR FELLOW CAMPER AT CRYSTAL LAKE...THIS WILL MAKE THE MOVIE SUCK***
NEW LINE, if you are listening, THE KEY TO THIS FILM IS THE MYTHOLOGY OF BOTH CHARACTERS, DIG IN THAT, GET SOME CAMEOS FROM OLD CHARACTERS, & CUT BACK ON THE HUMOR(Freddy)...If I may make suggestions:
1)DIG IN THE MYTHOLOGY OF FREDDY & JASON(this cannot be stated enough)
2)IGNORE the JASON GOES TO HELL BODY SWAPPING CRAP(It's a rip-off of THE HIDDEN)
3)MAKE FREDDY DARKER & SPOOKIER(like parts 1 & 3. In part 3, He was the perfect balance of scary & funny. After 3, he was a court jester)
4) Raise the Stakes(Make it more than just some teens getting slaughtered. Put the WORLD at stake)
5)HIGHLIGHT THE BATTLE SCENE...(Remember, it's called Freddy VS. Jason)
6)GET A GOOD SCRIPT & DIRECTOR(My 1st director choice would be ALEX PROYAS(Dark City)...My 1st screenwriter choice would be ME & My Script: WHEN EVILS MEET:FREDDY vs JASON...It's the most kick ass FvJ script you've ever seen...SHOCKS, SUPRISES, & an ENDING THAT WILL BLOW YOU AWAY!(again, New Line...You listening?)
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, Now on to those FREDDY/JASON/HORROR MOVIE HATERS: You people make me sick. What I always liked about Harry & AIN'T IT COOL is that he's happy being a film geek & this site is Nirvana for Film Geeks all over the world...I hate Movie Snobs who claim to love film but frown down on certain genres/characters. I can watch a MERCHANT IVORY film, turn around & watch PORKY'S, and still appreciate them both...IT'S ALL FILM...For all of you "HIGH MINDED" Snobs, pull the bug outta your butt & just ENJOY the movie. Who cares if you wax philosophical about cinema while trying(and I do mean TRYING) to prove you have intellect...SCREW YOU SNOBS!
Well, That's about it...I'll get off my soapbox, hope NEW LINE listens(Scrap JASON X in space. Bring him back to Crystal Lake & reinvent him. GIVE US FREDDY VS. JASON!!!), and hope the SNOBS get a life, loosen up & go watch TOXIC AVENGER...

If there's a project that's just screaming for the attention of Kane Hodder, it's the script for "Snyder's Law" over at Thornhill Productions.
I hear that there's a sequel in the works as well. -
A few years ago, Carpenter was asked what he'd do with the "final" sequel to "Halloween." He said that the only way to get rid of Michael Myers would be to shoot him into space. He then gets loose on a space station...
Sounds just a bit familiar. Jason always was a Myers rip-off, albeit a fun one. Honestly, I can't wait to see the thing.
But where can I get the script? Someone e-mail me at f_gabitsch@excite.com -
i don't care if jason is in the woods, space, manhatten,in hell,or the northpole.i just want to see a new jason movie.i don't care where it's at, who's in it,or who likes it.its a new jason movie and i'll enjoy it just as much as i did the previous 9 films.if you don't like the idea of the plot or any other aspect just don't go see it.a true jason fan goes to see jason do what jason does best and thats kick some a$%^#$!!!!
-
Friday the 13th.com says the budget is $14 million.
-
With the exception of 4 and 6, every Jason could have been so much more. They had some good ideas, just poorly exectued. Jason in Manhatten could have been a brutal bloodbath. Instead it was a lame sterotype filled wall of crap. Bodyjumping in 9 wasn't a bad idea, but it just didn't *feel* like Jason. I realize that Jason isn't supposed to be good cinema, but damn it, I'm rooting for him. I want to see stupid kids and helpless bystanders get slaughtered. I just hope that they realize that Jason X could be a good film, and try, I mean really TRY to give it what is deserves. No teen-appeal crap, no lightweight gore, no pretty faces to ultimately kill Jason. Some serious bad ass splatter, and a good storyline. What made 4 so good was Tommy freaking Jason out at the end, and landing the axe into his skull. Innovative. Toxic waste flushing into the sewers is just plain dumb. There's a difference.
-
I definately cant wait to see this movie, although I am a little disappointed that its in the future. It seems like it wouldnt be to good but I definately still gotta go see it. I think alot of other people will be in line to see it to. Everyone knows the Friday the 13th movies. Jason is one of everybodys favorite and best know serial killers
-
Does anybody know why it's called Jason X instead of Friday the 13th Part X? I always enjoyed seeing Friday the 13th Part ... in the title.
Based on what I've heard so far, I'm enthusiastic about this. I've always believed it was going to go up to at least 13. Jason goes to Hell was okay as a horror movie, but it wasn't a real Jason movie, other than providing a cool link to the Evil Dead movies and suggesting how Jason may have orginally came back from the dead.
