The Chin to appear in Sam Raimi's Oz: The Great and Powerful!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The great Bruce Campbell recently revealed on his Twitter page that he'll be reteaming once again with Mr. Sam Raimi in his next picture, Oz: The Great and Powerful. Along with a Behind the Scenes Picture from Evil Dead 2 (Hey, that's my job, Bub!) he put this statement out there:
"I. Am. In. Oz. Sam Raimi refuses to tell me what character I will portray. Just know that the role is PIVOTAL."
Tiny role or starring, it's always great to see those two team up, especially with such a good cast Raimi already has in his Wizard of Oz prequel... Mila Kunis, James Franco, Michelle Williams, Rachel Weisz et al.
Now let's all go spam Bruce's twitter feed with Evil Dead 4 questions!

Could Bruce be Oz himself, or is that role cast already?

Franco is Oz. Prequel and all that jazz.

Although, with his increasing girth...he could be more of a cowardly lion now

Goldentribe, James Franco is "The Wizard"... Not sure how I feel about that. Not much of a fan myself...

that chin needs to be painted silver and have a funnel on it's head

too bad they arent working together on making evil dead 4, as in him being ash and starring in the fucking movie
by Daniel
-
glad it's Campbell. And he slimmed down quite a bit for the Sam Axe - Burn Notice prequel
-
Tinman
-
lol was like, WTF? Why would he put that dipshit in this?? Anyways, James Franco -- is that for the lead? only because last I knew, RDJ was going to be the big cheese in this flick.
-
He's the voice of a generation. A SHITTY ONE.
-
He could be the woodsman before he became the Tinman. He's already played one character who chopped off and replaced his limbs so it should be easy for him.
-
:::snicker:::
-
The Lion will more than likely be CGI. I would hope the "characters" would look like Baums drawings in the original books, the same way they captured the look in the movie "Return To Oz"
-
Fuck it man, he should be dorothy. Toto???? He was the star of a billion dollar franchise afterall. Should be 2 billion dollar trilogies
-
maybe they'll spit one out in the months leading to this movie's release.
-
Bruce Campbell appears in a Sam Raimi movie.
-
been out on DVD. Got it last Christmas.
-
It would've been his Tony Soprano. And Bruce Campbell is less likely to punch a well-wisher in the mush.

I'm a Sam Raimi fan, but honestly this movie baffles me.
by Orbots Commander
Sounds like such a blatant prequel/franchise starter, and really, is the world that curious about the origins of the wizard in Oz? Damn you Tim Burton, and your financially successful Alice In Wonderland movie!
-
I just hope Raimi hijacks the best pieces of RETURN TO OZ for this. Bring in the Wheelers, for example.
-
he plays one of the blue faced soldiers. maybe a general? or goblin king maybe?
-
He would be perfect casting. A stranger in a strange land, just like in Army of Darkness. It would be awesome to see Dorothy with a chainsaw as lower arm. "Hail to the Queen, Toto." (Hell, if they're going to remake Evil Dead, they might as well do this one).
-
But yes, even you noble director can be redeemed. Ever since Spider-Man 3 your stance as a director has crumbled. Don't care what the critics told you about Drag Me To Hell but that movie sucked worse than CABIN BOY! Please do us all a favor and reclaim your glory and just make another fucking EVIL DEAD movie already! That is what the fans want, not a FUCKING remake! You do a remake your going to add another movie to your list of I'm not creditable as a director list! Now OZ, WTF happened to you man! You have the power to at least get a 40 million production for a movie and you make Drag Me To Hell! This might be a FUCK YOU, but I think it is a GOOD FUCK YOU! Come back to you core audience and make a film worthy of your talent, fuck OZ!

When I read that headline i thought Reece Witherspoon was cast...
by OptimusBob
...thank fuck that's not the case.
-
Maybe they both enjoy the quirky cameo thing, but I would really like to see Campbell get a simple, decent, substantive role in a high-visibility film, even if it's a supporting role. It would be fun to see that at this stage. Judging by the approach he describes in his original auto-bio book (which I own), he's probably getting the exact amount and type of work he wants in life. But he's a cool enough guy and does entertaining enough work that more is always better to me.
-
BC will play an annoyed Emerald City doorman.
-
Make it so. I agree with the comments below, IT HAS TO BE SUBSTANTIAL. Oh and if you mention BC's (JC's) book, it can only be under its proper given title, If Chins could Kill, Confessions of a B-Movie actor. thehandthatbites out
-
or did you miss the news that your own website posted about Sam Raimi hiring a director to remake his own film???
-
I don't think Sam Raimi really cares about putting Bruce in a decent role. He just wants him in there for geek cred.
-
It would be hysterical to see his head on a midget's body.
-
As of the new season of Burn Notice, he's lost the extra pounds. Credit where credit's due!
-
Pre Curse. The tin man was an ordinary human who was forced by a curse to lop off his own limbs with his axe. Sound like anyone we know?
-
I purchased Return to Oz on dvd off of Amazon a few months back. I do not think there is a blu of the movie.
-
that would be so great or even the munchkin coroner.
-
Shimmied in there somewhere, I'll be happy
-
Especially with the suffrage overtones, it would be very easy to make it relevant to today's audiences (which are increasingly female)
-
There's like four plots and they just recycle them. Time to do something big like move to another city, kill off a major character, something. They really need to shake up that show.
-
You know there has to be the Non-Oz scene at the start of the movie in the real world. It will be there.

What Raimi hasn't told people yet is that the Oz prequel is also an Evil Dead sequel
by DoctorTom
Campbell is playing Ash again, and this time he gets to fight Deadite flying monkeys. He also has to wear the ruby slippers, and in trying to get home he loses count and clicks them together four times instead of 3 times.

gk1 - you got it - the characters should match W.W. Denslow's art
by FeralAngel
W.W. Denslow illustrated the first Oz book, and his art heavily influenced the MGM Oz movie. The later Oz books were illustrated by John R. Neill, and he wasn't nearly the artist Denslow was. Here is an example, for all who are curious, as to what Denslow's wonderful art looked like: http://www.booksofwonder.com/prodinfo.asp?number=101130 In any case, I hope to hell the characters in Disney's Oz won't look like they were designed by Tim Burton. That's totally the wrong aesthetic for the Oz stories.

Kudos to Raimi for bringing a 100 + million dollar production
by openthepodbaydoorshal
to Michigan. Hope it extends the mini filming boom the state has enjoyed recently (thanks to the tax incentives from the FORMER governor).
