He does look like Clark Kent.
-
Too much. Too much! Poof!
-
He's going to be great Superman I bet.
-
'tis okay. Something just feels off for me though. Stick some glasses and an old timey 3 piece suit with a bow time on him, then we'll talk about Clark Kent.
-
when you have the original movie to live up to that's a really high standard to reach. Oh and limit the green screen work ok Snyder? It worked for Watchmen, won't work for Man of Steel.
-
...Superman won't have a perm. ??Pseudo?? Out.
-
that we get a great Superman movie; I'm holding my enthusiam back until it comes out so all of this casting news doesn't really affect me. However they do have some high standards to live up to and I'm hoping that they hit this one out of the park.
-
Going bald are we, fellas?
-
In the Superman Suit, please. Routh had a wonky body shape in "Superman Returns". This dude in the first picture seems to have the same problem. Hugo

So the S on the chest stands for Situation Man
by Grammaton Cleric Binks
-
I said it.
-
Can any of you people read? Look at the guy with the SDCC badge next to him in the first picture as well. This is Henry Cavill starring as Henry Cavill. Please, AICN, just read before you post shit...
-
Have to give the guy credit for packing on the muscle. Will they use the old suit?
-
fucktard.
-
who threw out the mild mannered part of Kent, and had him be a muscle bound ladies man? This was how Byrne often had nim dress, without suit and tie. Oh, Byrnes sucky, depowered reboot of Supes was almost as bad as his work on She Hulk and Wonder Woman. Jeez, that Canadian faggot was overrated. I actually liked his shit once. When I was 10 and he was riding on Chris Clairmonts shoulders.
-
to what error are you referring?
-
Aug. 2, 2011, 9:07 p.m. CST
grasscutter, these pictures are not from the MAN OF STEEL set
by YackBacker
That's Cavill appearing last week at SDCC to promote his IMMORTALS movie. These shots don't show us how he'll look in the Superman movie- he's not in costume, he's not on the set in these photos. It's like showing us a picture of Daniel Day Lewis from last weekend and saying "This guy's going to play Abraham Lincoln soon! Imagine him in a top hat!" This post is a sham.
-
I'm saying it'll happen. And also one of the reasons why Supes got pushed back to 2013.
-

And by saying "he's not in costume" I mean he's not dressed as Clark Kent here
by YackBacker
One can only hope the tight pants and casual-Friday white shirt is the new Superman outfit though.
-
where in this article does Nordling write that this is the Man Of Steel set? Or that he's in costume?
-
Aug. 2, 2011, 9:12 p.m. CST
He doesn't say it, but doesn't say where the pics are from
by YackBacker
I guarantee you the vast majority of people seeing it will think they're from the set- Nordling should clarify that this isn't Clark Kent and Cavill is not on the set. The wind blew Cavill's hair forward and suddenly AICN has "news" to report?
-
the topic says a he's sporting a superman curl..im not seeing anything about them being set pics? also folks, dont sweat the hair. im sure they'll take a comb to him on set! i dont think we need to worry about "Saturday Night Superman"
-
I guarantee the vast majority of people seeing that picture after reading that headline and the copy in the article won't get their panties in a twist about nothing, like you seem to have. Obvious troll is obvious. The article is fine.
-
Superman is more of a clean cut guy. Of course, this may be where Snyder has decided to leave his mark. I give you: The Poofy Haired Superman.
-
I wasn't asking you to respond to me, I was speaking to Nordling. Peace be with you.
-
and that you're tilting at windmills.
-
Let's just agree to disagree- no need to go any further than that.
-
I don't get the "I'm looking at Superman vibe" from this current one. Oh well.
-
Nice!
-
Fine, i admit it. He's hot, and looks the part. i still have zero faith in this. We should have got a sequel to SR.

The spitcurl is backwards. Again. Like 'Returns'. Second pic it looks correct. It's a small detail, but niggling nonetheless. It's supposed to be an \S/, not the mirror image of one.

"too much hair"...didn't Dean Cain have roughly the same amount of hair when he started L&C
by Jesiah
Given, he did cut it (at least near the nape) later on). With the company-wide DC reboot coming, I'm more interested in his costume, and if one of the reasons he's losing his trunks in the comics is because the makes of MOS told DC that they're going to ditch the red trunks for the movie also.
-
than the new Peter Parker's hair.
-
yep that was a Snyd(er) remark!

I'm a big Cavill fan, and these pics almost seal the deal for me. I would like to see him with the glasses on though.

-
I got nervous for a second. Looked like they were gonna go for a Mad Men era Superman, but he was way too fashionable for that era.
-
I'm more interested in how Lois looks. Yes homo. Thinking of getting the Voltron sub because, after all the budgeting I did, it looks as though the DC one doesn't have enough interest to go through. But Mattel should have shown figures that have never been made before to plug Club infinite earths.
-
Ha! Snyder's gonna break the fourth wall and have Supes dismantle Hall H.
-
Please don't suck..God Please. I don't ask for much..... I think Routh was perfect and he deserves another chance but please please please don't fucking suck
-
Haha you lot never cease to amaze me with your moronic criticisms. The dude looks the part. Great casting. That's one step closer to a great superman movie. This is too much hair http://www.gotchamovies.com/ul/photos/movie/o/494353e4295b9d3c91749908849e44f3-sc.jpg
-
What a fucking disgrace. Next time you should post a tabloid picture from of him on his bike and name the post "want to see Superman with flying-like hair?", then a teen magazine pic of him taking the trash out and name it "want to see Superman in fight-like action?". Fuck this. .
-
Aug. 3, 2011, 12:40 a.m. CST
Jesus Christ. They're going to need to keep the camera at his waist-level at all times, he looks puny.
by ScaryWaitress
I dig this guy in The Tudors but this is some weak-ass casting. And the hair looks completely ridiculous. That's like Jeri-Curl for white dudes, on that head.
-
Warner Bros. is really cutting corners by recycling Joe Pesci's hair hat from Goodfellas.
-
A pooftah as the Brits might say. He's supposed to be a Kansas farmboy, not some flamboyant...flamboyant thing! Well...show me what he looks like in the Clark Kent glasses at least, then I'll know for certain.
-
...is "Staying Alive".
-
Don't be surprised when this baby opens that it's a massive turd.
-
No kidding. Supes' hair is supposed to part the other way, so that the resulting curl creates a Superman 'S'. It might be a small thing, but it bugs me. And I can't say I'm blown away by Cavill in Clark Kent mode. He doesn't look bulky at all - certainly nowhere near as built as Christopher Reeve - suggesting that if this Superman is going appear particularly muscly it's going to have to come from his suit. And why would Superman would feel so insecure as wear a suit which gives him false muscles, I don't know...
-
His shoulders are smaller than Routh's, and Routh had a tiny head and fat arse to contend with. Can Cavill even act? I saw him in the Woody Allen - Larry David film and he was ok, not embarrassing but nothing special. The main point is still the same though - why is a proven failure like Snyder in charge?
-
...a smug, chicken-legged, barrel-chested, wife-beating asshole in a ridiculous, tight-fitting leotard. Not like this pretty, muscular douchebag. Get the source material right FFS!
-
that everyone jumps on Yackbacker when he points out that a stupid post like this (yes, it is stupid) is going to lead a load of idiots to start complaining about the hair and then - lo-and-behold - post after post of moronic “too much hair”, “FFS superman has Joe Pesci/ Michael Landon/ Saturday Night Fever hair”, and the classic “OMG they got the curl the wrong way around again!!!1!1”…. The article is dumb because a) it’s basically about the hairstyle of a male celebrity who went to SDCC (seriously? did I just accidently wander into E! News Online?) and b) its obvious that an *alarming* number of mouth-foaming fanboys are seemlingly unable to comprehend the simple concept that this is neither a set pic, nor is it a pic of the actor in costume.
-
...my hatred for: a) Superman b) Movies c) This website
-
You were totally correct with your initial posts. Grasscutter you're the one who looks like a massive twat now
-
"Too much hair" coming from four-eyed, fanboy fatties that are obviously balding and ugly as mud fence.
-
...the instant he looked into a mirror and decided to use a 'manly' hair product to tease his forelock into its iconic 'S' shape.
-
He is kind of unshaven with 5'oclock shadow and don't think Supes (or Clark Kent) would be like this..althoug you never know. But as others have pointed out, this is not from the Superman film. Even though it is a bit of an insight how he will look with the curl (if they even use that, which they probably will not)
-
The mile-high Jew-fro on the new Peter Parker is an infinitely more unforgivable hairstyle crime.
-
Oh, right, cause he's a handsome guy who doesn't weight 800 pounds, is perpetually covered in Cheetos, and lives in his mom's basement.
-
That's what Brandon Routh said to Bryan Singer on the casting couch.
-
If you re-read I don't think Nordling has actually said it's a setpic. Just a pic of the guy walking down the street with the curl in his hair.
-
I was going to say that same thing. Dressing nicely is apparently "metrosexual" and worthy of scorn. Just like wearing plain black makes you "emo" and equally worthy of scorn. These are things I've learned at AICN.
-
Hairy chested Superman love god.

So all other actors playing Super-heroes went to the Gym..
by ColloquiallyBorn
... and this guys playing Superman didn't go?... Man, I am really pulling for this movie to work as the last one doesn't even come close to what a Superman movie should be like. But this casting... Man... It's hard to hope for any good when WB is behing the wheel... Someone should've told this Cavill guy that he was about to play the strongest man in the world not the spiffy Wall Street Auditor...
-
Do you actually read the comics before you say shit like that or you just basing your thoughts on the 70's movie???
-
You're partly right, in that this new movie version of Superman is directly 'inspired' by John Byrne's take on the character, as per some interview I read with Goyer-Nolan. I do confess that I don't remember this mid '80's version of Supes. Was too busy getting through Junior High at the time. From what I hear though, it was a scaled back Superman in terms of powers, no continent lifting abilities or turning time back by flying around the globe here, I'm assuming.
-

So happy you guys aren't getting "geek boners" over this...
by Mr. Waturi
This talkback is gay enough as it is.
-
I don't get the hair critique. Reminds me of that Springfield baseball team Simpsons episode where Burns keeps nagging Don Mattingly to 'shave those sideburns, you hippy!' Yeah, that's a weird critique, and I'm as critical as the best of them here.
-
He's got head pubes btw.
-
I was not sold on the images I saw of him when this was first announced, but he looks great here. Has the facial look, has the physique, and his body proportions make him look taller than he is (6'1"?), which will be a bonus on screen. Funny how a few random photos can make me feel a bit better about this project. It still has to justify its creation - and a good villain would be nice, too! - but I have a good impression from these pics.
-
Aug. 3, 2011, 9:54 a.m. CST
smashing, that hairy chest won't last for long in an American film
by gruntybear
Hollywood / Madison Ave. have decreed that Americans apparently can't stomach secondary male sexual characteristics AT ALL. Rest assured that Superman's chest hair will be waxed away or otherwise erased before this film ever sees the light of day.
-
Haven't any of you guys seen Tudors? He was just a back up, and they picked him because they couldn't find anyone else, and they were desperate because if they didn't start to make a film immediately they would lose the film rights to Superman.
-
His quads looked ripped in that first pic. He must be squatting with his trainer a lot. A little upper body work and he should fill out the tights just fine. Did anyone mention this is not a set pic and it is from Comic Con?
-
The hair curl looks okay in comics and Christopher Reeve was able to pull it off, but you can have a successful live-action version without it. If they try to hard to keep it, it will look ridiculous. Keep the costume, get rid of the curl!
-

Agree that the curl was part of 40s fashion and his hair need not be beholden to that era.
by UltraTron
Also agree that anyone saying too much hair is on video-crack. It's what nerds smoke.
-
Zack Synder doesn't film on location... and that's no green screen behind Cavil!
-

-
Aug. 3, 2011, 10:35 a.m. CST
Yes he has a hairy chest. Please keep that. If they wax his chest the I'd better see an expensive sequence where he frys all his chest hair off with heat-vision
by UltraTron
and a reflective chunk of his space capsule.
-
If his accent isn't perfect this will be a disaster.
-
Byrne definately muscled Clark up, but they didn't scale his powers back. In the second or third issue of that relaunch, S does the same thing he did at the end of SR, just with no one watching. It has to be where Singer got the idea.
-
...carving out a round area of the earth and lifting it into space.
-
that the vast majority of AICN readers are smart enough to recognize that these aren't set pics from Man Of Steel, much like Andrew Garfield's Spider-man costume he wore to Comicon wasn't the Amazing Spider-man costume. Are a few people dumb enough to not read the actual article and misconstrue Nordling's intentions with this article? Sure. Obviously.
-
on Superman is a boner of epic stupidity.
-
He's suffering from "I don't want to cut my hair ala Hugh Jackman in Wolverine". It looks incredibly bad. At the very least bring the look in to this decade.
-
as the guy no one had ever heard of or seen in anything before but who used to always come runner-up for every big superhero-ish role out there. He went for them all, Batman, Superman (first time around), James Bond. He must have a lot of connections in the industry because he auditioned for all these without having done anything beforehand. It's like he woke up one day, told mummy and daddy he wanted to be a movie star and they said 'we'll see what we can do.' He barely did any TV, etc. Just the movie star roles, please. In that case, it's astounding he's finally made it. All or nothing, very brave, but not so brave if he's as rich as I suspect he is.

Bats is having a tough time with the stupid, cheap-ass Comic Con cosplay looking Bane from this pics earlier this week. Supes flies down to the crowd scene, shakes his head in embarassment as Bats has his ass handed to him by this piece of shit hack villain, and says "Bruce, you can't take this guy? What the fuck is up with you these days?" Supes flies away in disgust.

who is in the long run doing what he does for selfish reasons. Fanboys here like to jack off to dark characters like Bales Batman and Ledgers overrated Joker, but Superman is the guy you want as a friend. When you have to move to a new house and don't have the money for beer and pizza, Superman is the only one to show up and help. The Joker you love so much might show up, but it'll be to sit in a beach chair across the street drinking a cocktail and blowing a joint and laughing at you.
-
holy shit, he's like john barrowman crossed with that mr shoe off glee. what a fucking ponce. this will NOT work.
-
but I have no faith in Zack to make a good Superman film. This guy looks like he'll fit right in. I'm thoroughly looking forward to another Superman reboot in 4 year. Can't fucking wait.
-
You are wrong. You are also various other things that I seriously can't be bothered to list out. Also, the article is entitled "Want To See Henry Cavill With The Superman Curl?" which is factually incorrect. Its actually not Henry Cavill with the Superman Curl. Its just Henry Cavill with a curl. Which makes both you - and this "story" - dumber than shit. In addition to that, the subsequent flood of cry-baby dipshit posts moaning that they don't like Supermans hair proves that the majority of AICN talkbackers are barely clever enough to blink both eyes at the same time, let alone realise this isn't a set / character pic.
-
Fuck a bag of broken glass, geektard_smasher . The praise heaped on Ledger's Joker was worthy.
-
Depends on who you're talking to. There are plenty of people (like you) who think his work sucks, while others sing his praises to a ridiculous extent. Personally, I find his writing hit and miss. His work on X-men, Fantastic Four, Next Men, Omac, Captain America, West Coast Avengers and Incredible Hulk is all excellent. Just about anything he did post 1995, however, is a big old meh. I would disagree on your opinion of She-Hulk as well. Byrne's run on the book was fantastic. True, the writing was more of a comedic romp than an action/adventure series (with Byrne breaking the fourth wall on numerous occasions), but I found that refreshing. You are right about him missing the mark on Clark Kent though. While I think his reboot of Superman was solid overall; it doesn't hold up as well as one would like, and Clark was way to "cool" for my taste.
-
looks right out of the comics, much better than the slicked back, greasy look
-
Really, DC/Warner? Really??? Was this the best choice you agree with? They should have stuck with Brandon Routh. Box Office prediction??? I say it won't exceed Superman Return box office take!
-
Spit curl. Square jaw. Great acting chops. Nice casting Mr.Snyder. Now do us proud.
