Blu-ray Episodes Of
STAR TREK: THE
NEXT GENERATION
Due By Year’s End??

More big Blu-ray news!

Bill Hunt of Digital Bits got word at last weekend’s Comic Con that CBS is already cranking out four “test” Blu-ray episodes of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” and these episodes will be available to fans by the end of the year.

Hunt’s full report:

Multiple sources I spoke with at Comic-Con have also confirmed our report from earlier this year that CBS is hard at work on Star Trek: The Next Generation - Remastered for Blu-ray release starting sometime in 2012. The latest word is that 4 test episodes are currently being worked on for release as a sampler/demo BD disc of the project, and that sampler disc will somehow be available to fans by the end of this year. Watch for additional news in the months ahead.

The fact that “TNG” episodes were edited electronically is apparently providing challenges to HD conversion that were not encountered with the old Kirk/Spock series shot and edited on 35mm film.

Let’s hope when CBS starts issuing season sets next year it starts with season three, when the show got good.

Hunt’s original July 26 post on the matter can be found here.
