AICN COMICS SDCC 2011 FALLOUT: Ambush Bug announces his new werewolf comic LUNA on FAMOUS MONSTERS panel!!!
Ambush Bug and the @$$Holes hit the San Diego Comic Con hard this year. So for the next few weeks, expect a megaton bomb worth of interviews and content showing all that happened during this event.
Sue me for being selfish, but one of the highlights of the con for me was sitting on the FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND panel, not as a moderator, but as a professional talking about his own work. Publisher Phil Kim and editor Ed Blair presented all of the new things coming to FAMOUS MONSTERS such as a partnership with ZOMBIE LANE creator Mark Dooley, more painted covers by legendary monster maker Rick Baker, Jason Edmiston, Joe Moe, and August Ragone, and a new website design (which you can find by clicking here).
FAMOUS MONSTERS OF FILMLAND not only sports an awesome Rick Baker cover, but also marks my debut as writer for the magazine with an article I penned focusing on Found Footage Films through the years. You wouldn’t believe how much of a thrill it was to see a story I wrote published in the pages of the magazine I grew up reading religiously. Check out this story in issue #257 which should be available now!
FAMOUS MONSTERS also announced in the panel that for the first time the magazine will be venturing into the realm of comic books with FAMOUS MONSTERS PRESENTS: LUNA, a four issue miniseries written by myself and Martin Fisher who wrote the fantastic zombie miniseries RISERS. Click on the images scattered throughout this article for bigger images of the preview pages.
LUNA takes place in the South American mountains as a handful of werewolves decide to shun society and live in a monastery away from the temptation of and persecution from humanity. When a team of climbers scale the mountain the monastery rests upon, the peaceful existence the werewolf monks have made for themselves is threatened.
Described as “CLIFFHANGER with werewolves”, LUNA is an action horror miniseries illustrated by newcomer Tim Rees, colored by Javil Laparra, and lettered by Dave Reynolds and sports many species of lycanthrope from literature and films. It will be released this October, just in time for Halloween!Be sure to look for more info on LUNA in the coming months.

Famous Monsters V3 is really coming along. I just love seeing the logo on news shelves.

I love going to the grocery store to pick up milk and fruit and seeing the Famous Monsters logo on the magazine shelves. I think the new Famous Monsters brand has made big strides in a very short time. There is reason to be hopeful that it will worm its way into the hearts and minds of a new generation.

Love the new FM. Love actual magazines, books, albums, etc. Hate a generation that has destroyed a zillion cool book shops and record stores, Tower Records, and now Borders because they prefer to consume everything on a goddamned smart phone. Please leave Barnes and Noble standing, I beg of you as a 40 year old ancient one who could care less about getting with the program. Oh, and good luck Bug. The comic looks good. Nice article in 257.

I’m just trying to have a good time here, these talk-backs are supposed to make you laugh people. Don’t take things so serious as someone on this talk-back used to say. I cant help I have a large thought and then it just piles over onto the talk-back. Sometimes my thoughts will be small and ill say a word or two. Just so you know its all in fun but never mind that for now lets get back to talking about film. I think MUNICH is SPEILBERGS best film but my dad favors ALWAYS. You know I can stick my entire hand up my ass cause I was gang-raped last year, no joke there, it hurt! If I had to pick between buying LOTR on blu-ray or STAR WARS, I would for sure go for the light saber y’all! For all of those who didn’t like the prequels, you are stupid as fuck. LUCAS has controlled of your life, he made sure you would always work a dead end job and be stuck! He made sure EWEN MCGREGOR would never be a leading man again after he talked smack about THE PHANTOM MENACE! Just let that be a warning to all you cum gobblers out there! Any whore, I thought THE MATRIX was great, didn’t really like RELOADED but thought the last one was ok. Anyone who likes AVATAR must realize that THE SMURFS movie will be better. I cant stand people that do reviews in BLOGS, and I think ever since EBERT lost his jaw he has lost his mind! You know he gave THOR ½ stars or something like that, and he talked shit about that JACKASS dude that died, I hope his cancer kills him slowly! Peter Travers is usually on point, except for the reviews for the STAR WARS PREQUELS, so as a matter of fact I hope he dies of AIDS! HARRY is usually good as well but he said he feel asleep during INCEPTION, so I curse him with the IRISH curse! I tend to hate remakes and the remake of OLDBOY they are making with SPIKE LEE just makes my brain pop, I mean well have DENZEL WASHINGTON going around beating up the KKK and saying “GODZILLA AINT GOT SHIT ON ME!” I hope they both die before this actually happens and the people who produce it. Do you think it is a little much to use the words dead for people that make movies, your probably right for sure, but it’s about the same as sports fans reactions, and I don’t watch sports, I got man boobies, so I really wouldn’t know actually. Is it just me or does Peter Jackson get more credit for LOTR more so than the author, a paradox this is! Why can’t AICN have a music section for hip-hop, rock n roll, and death metal, that would be heaven and I forgot I’m living in hell as a wise RASTA once said.
