Info on THE TIGGER MOVIE!

Published at:  Jan 22, 2000 5:50:55 AM CST

Hey folks, Harry here. THE TIGGER MOVIE has been being whispered about to me as being something... far far faaaar more special than anything anyone is expecting from it. Which is... of course expected from a movie starring the most talented tiger of all. I've been told by animators (from competing studios) that have seen pieces of the film that the movie is as though someone went back in time and created another magical piece of animation from a time long ago. Here's the scoop... and if you have a child in you or with you... check it out.

Here are some bits of information about The Tigger Movie that you might find
useful.

1) The movie was Directed and the Screenplay was written by one woman. A
bit of a rarity in the biz.

2) The movie look and feel was designed to be like Disney movies from the
"Golden Age". It has succeeded perfectly.

3) The execs were so impressed when they saw the final screening of the
movie this week that they immediately ordered 1,000 more prints to be made.
The release will be almost as large as ToyStory II.

4) The songs where written by the Sherman brothers (Richard and Robert).
Remember them? Disney legends are back and the songs are waaaaay cool.

5) Every crowd that has seen the movie has been totally amazed at how good
the movie is on all possible levels.

6) Very few people who leave the theaters have not been totally moved by
the story. Laugh, cry, full range of emotion thing.

Those are a few bits. The
movie really is amazing. I think the industry will be totally stunned when
they see what DisneyTV can do.

    I'm not surprised...

Did anyone see "A Goofy Movie?" OK, ok. Slam me if you will, but for WHAT IT WAS, it was excellent. Bound by the "hip" conventions of the TV show (goof troop) it was based on, Director Kevin Lima (Co-Director of "Tarzan") made a mountain out of a mole hill. Even Gene Siskel stated that "it has the best use of color since "Gone With The Wind. Every film student should rush out and catch it on the big screen." All the "hip-ness" aside, what counted, and what works BEST in the film, is the emotional moments between the father (Goofy) and his son (Max). Along the way, there are plenty of laughs. I cringe at the same moments you will, but when it works, it's better than a lot of Disney's most recent output. Here's hoping "Tigger" can pull the same trick...

...of course, that Writer/Director Jun Faulkenstein is one of the most talented, brilliant, and funny female artist in the animation industry. GOOD LUCK JUN!!!!!!

  • It is nice to see there may be another animated film with the same power to move an audience as THE IRON GIANT did. However, I must confess that I am happy Disney did not handle THE IRON GIANT because it would have inevitable ended up with one or two songs. I would have distracting to see a duet with THE GIANT singing to Hogarth about what it

Is it just me, or does this reek of some weedy Disney exec. anono-mouse-ly (sorry) drumming up some hype? It's not like it hasn't been done before. I hope this is all true, I really do, but considering even the first Disney Pooh stuff is such a bastardisation of Milne and even moreso Sheppard's (the arogance to think they could improve on those designs!) work, well, I can't help but be suspicious. The one shining ray of hope is that this one got through without being designed and written by committee!! Watch out though people, they're getting even closer to messing with the classic stuff. Lady and the Tramp 2. WHYYYYYY?_______P.S. Harry, when on God's green earth are we gonna get some edit features in here? Get off your arse, man!

I touched enter by mistake. I was going to say there is a part in the film "Beautiful Girls" that has Timothy Hutton telling Natalie Portman how her love for him is like Winnie the Pooh and Christopher Robin's friendship. How Christopher Robin grows up and forgets about Pooh and and then how Marty(Portman) will grow up and forget about Hutton. That's my favorite part in the film. Anywayz I grew up reading the books and watching the show from time to time and all I can say is : can't wait

    Hey Irie!! Your absolutely right

    by lego-nut

I also enjoyed the Goofy movie myself. I was a projectionist at the time so I sat down and screened it after having assembled it.
I ended up watching a lot of bad stuff back then, while checking to make sure that the prints were all right, but this was really enjoyable. I even ended up rewatching certain parts in the following weeks.

    The wonderful thing about Tiggers...

    by all thumbs

Is they're making a movie with him and Pooh. Ok, I think Winnie the Pooh is the subject that brings out the most of my inner-child. Seriously, I've been a pooh fan ever since I was able to remember. I had stuffed animals, dresses, books, movies, my nickname incorporated Pooh at the end (not telling it because I want to remain as anonymous as possible here). Even now, while at college, I have a Pooh comforter, Pooh movies, Pooh stuffed animals and a copy of the classic book sitting on the coffee table in the living room. Even my kitchen has Pooh towels, cups, magnets and pot holders. Good thing my roommate likes Eyore. Ahhh...Pooh overkill. Call me immature, call me a 12-year-old girl, but you can also call me very happy.

  • ...which is still unfortunately true. Flicks like "Prince of Egypt" and "The Iron Giant" are friggin' fantastic, but unfortunately they haven't made the B.O. inroads necessary to weaken the Disney juggernaut. That said, I'm REAAALL skeptical about "The Tigger Movie". I've always loved both the Milne and Disney versions of Pooh (by the way, Half Vader, Disney went with the style they did because, as with Tenniel's "Alice in Wonderland" art, Sheppard's style wasn't inherently animatable), but I don't trust the current Disney regime to TOUCH Pooh, now, especially now that they're out of Milne source material and have to come up with their own crap. I steered very clear of "Pooh's Grand Adventure", and will do the same with this. But then, I've been boycotting Disney since 1993, so it shouldn't be hard.

Tut! Tut! It looks like rain!

    by godai-kun

If this report is in fact true, this sounds great! But, I still have 3 concerns about this movie: 1) About a year ago, I heard that Disney decided to go with Jim Cummings as the voice of Tigger over the Paul Winchell (his original voice). Can anyone confirm or deny this? I hope this is not true, because not only does Cummings do a subpar Tigger, but it would be really shitty of Disney to screw over one of their veterans. 2) You have no idea how elated I am to hear that the Sherman Brothers, two more Disney veterans, have written songs for the film. But what's with the wussy, adult/contemporary song playing in the preview? Dear God, tell me they didn't write that! It's been a while since they've written for an animated Disney feature, but I'd hate to think they're now churning out duds like that. 3) Are the characters strong enough to carry an hour and a half worth of continous story? I know "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" is a feature, but it's broken down into 3 managible stories. Oh well, this report gives me alot of hope. And from what little I've seen, the animation looks fine. Let's keep our fingers crossed.

Id call you cliched. Sort of like the people who 'love' cats or cows or beany baby's so much they use it as a crutch for their personality. L@@k at me!! Aren't I cute! Im 25+ and would love for you to know that I am still a child, i promise!!?!

    TRAILER SUCKS!!!

    by daniel shock

I'm a big Pooh fan. Always have been. I hope this movie is good, and I might go see it. But, I agree with the above poster who said that the music in the trailer blows. If I were to make my decision solely on the trailer, I would NOT go.

    Reality check

    by cad

Just to let you know, this movie was done by the tv animation department, and alot of it was farmed out to various small studios. I haven't seen all of it but don't get your hopes up. As far as the Goofy movie goes that was mostly done by feature animation guys in paris.

    Tigger +Blair Witch Project=?

    by nick v 4.0

yes my friends what if the movie Tigger was made in the same style of the Blair Witch Project. We have something on our hands that maybe the kiddies will enjoy. Who nows... Maybe people would like Pooh Bear and Christopher Robin yelling at Tigger for losing the map for an hour. Hey, I can see it scene by scene. It's a master peice. Or maybe it ranks below in the pit of other such movies as The Class Of Nuk 'em High, The Howling part "who the fuck cares", and Ed T.V. most of all. I hate the fucking movie ED T.V.

    Anything but cliched, Malchizedik

    by all thumbs

I can handle being called immature. I can handle being called silly. What I can't handle, or should I will not stand for, is someone telling me I am a cliche because something I enjoy is a personality crutch. If anything, film is my personality crutch and is the crutch of almost all who come to this site. But if you looked deeper, you'd see I'm hardly the cliche of the film geek or fangirl. Stick around the site a little longer, sir or madam, before you judge me by one post. Humans are complicated beings, and being human, there are many different fascets to my personality and the personalities of everyone here. I could easily say your insults and judgements are your personality crutch that cliche you as an prejudicial asshole who gets his kicks insulting those different from him. Also, I am sure you would not have insulted me had my "crutch" been something more suitable in your mind. I've seen many people at this site turn into a child and go ga-ga over everything from comic books to anything Star Wars to video games to Toy Story 2 (That was Harry, BTW, who noted in his review of how that movie brought out the child in him. Harry also has a room or house filled with movie memorobilia, does that count as a cliche or personality crutch?). I apologize for the length of this post, but I put it on here in my defense and in defense of anyone like myself who is judged here for not liking something more "suitable" than Winnie the Pooh.

Prince of Egypt didn't even get OVER rated!

    by irie

Prince of Egypt failed on every level. It's ugly and unappealing (no--that doesn't mean it's "not Disney," it just means they threw the baby out with the bathwater) and the animation was OK. Iron Giant blew it away on EVERY level, as did Toy Story 2. Dreamworks better stop being so pompous with their houghty-toughty projects, or they'll lose more animators than they already have. The french can do great inbetweens, but they CAN'T ACT the way American animators can.

    to Godai-Kun & CAD

    by verbal kint

    Godai-Kun:
Yes, Jim Cummings did replace Paul Winchell's voice, but, based on reports I've read from other newsgroups, this was only after it was proven that Winchell could no longer handle the range of emotions that was needed as well as Cummings could.

    and CAD:
those "feature animation guys in Paris" were not considered feature animation guys until AFTER they had done "Goofy Movie".
