We delay discussion of this week’s releases for what I regard as the big hi-def Comic Con weekend news – specifically the announcement that Warner Bros. would on Nov. 15 begin issuing Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Marvin Martian, Foghorn Leghorn, Michigan J. Frog and the Dover Boys on Blu-ray via The Looney Tunes Platinum Collections. I have been waiting for this announcement almost as long as I have been waiting for an announcement of a machine that would allow me to record high definition HBO, AMC and FX programming on Blu-ray discs the way I can record standard definition programming on DVDs.

Some of what you get for $41.99, according to Cartoon Brew:

50 classic cartoons in high definition:

Disc #1 includes:
Hare Tonic
Baseball Bugs
Buccaneer Bunny
The Old Grey Hare
Rabbit Hood
8 Ball Bunny
Rabbit of Seville
What’s Opera Doc?
The Great Piggy Bank Robbery
A Pest In The House
The Scarlet Pumpernickle
Duck Amuck
Robin Hood Daffy
Baby Bottleneck
Kitty Kornered
Scardy Cat
Porky Chops
Old Glory
A Tale Of Two Kitties
Tweetie Pie
Fast And Furry-ous
Beep Beep
Lovelorn Leghorn
For Scent-I-Mental Reasons and
Speedy Gonzales.

Disc #2 includesz:
One Froggy Evening
The Three Little Bops
I Love To Singa
Katnip Kollege
The Dover Boys
From A To ZZZZ
Chow Hound
Feed The Kitty
Hasty Hare
Duck Dodgers in the 24 1/2 Century
Hareway To The Stars
Mad As A Mars Hare
Devil May Hare
Bedevilled Rabbit
Ducking The Devil
Bill Of Hare
Dr. Devil and Mr. Hare
Bewitched Bunny
Broomstick Bunny and
several others to be announced.

Bonus material includes several Behind-The-Toons pieces and Chuck Jones documentaries, numerous bonus cartoons including Chuck Jones’ FDR re-election film, Hell Bent For Election (1942), a rare Air Force re-enlistment film, A Hitch In Time (1955), and Ken Mundie’s expressionist anti-war animated short, The Door (1967) – plus two all-new documentaries on Marvin The Martian and The Tasmanian Devil.

Additionally, the collection comes in a sturdy plastic box, which will include a 52 page booklet, a commemorative magnet and mini collectible drinking glass.

The Warner cartoons are for me the funniest ever forged; I am very excited to see these in a resolution similar to what movie audiences saw in the 1930s, ‘40s and ‘50s.

    re: The Ultimate Matrix set...

    by jimmy rabbitte

Reloaded and Revolutions suck ass. The first film is the only one worth owning. Those sequels were a bigger mistake than The Godfather Part III.

  • July 27, 2011, 10:11 a.m. CST

    bluray bunny? Seriously?

    by abe

Who needs it? Have you actually watched the existing DVD material on a PS3? Can't get much better than that. Traditional animation is meant to be watched a little "fuzzy" anyway. People keep falling for the marketing buzz.

Why haven't the Star Trek series dropped in price significantly?

    by gruntybear

Most of the series are still at their ridiculous near $70 per season costs. I just know as soon as I break down and actually buy that "Voyager" set, it'll suddenly drop down in price by $150.

  • July 27, 2011, 6:03 p.m. CST

House, M.D. is $14.99 a season at Target

    by SmokingRobot

Good, because I finished season 3 (for the second time) last night.

I've been looking for a reason to pick up II & III for a while now. Now I'll get all three for a little more than what I paid for the first one alone a while back.

Star Trek seasons never get discounted...

    by Nasty In The Pasty

...because Paramount knows obsessed Trekkies will pay ANY absurd price for them.

    HEHE!

    by Warren

AICN is awesome, I mean you folks do a really good job at keeping up with everything out there in the world of film, you could do without CAPONE, but hey even retards were allowed to hang out with JESUS. I just don’t know what to say I mean I’m just in awe of everything you do. If I was a hot female I would literally suck all of your small cocks. Or if you are all gay, I know one of you are I would at least give you a hand job. The one thing I really want you folks to do is get more info on THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, get all commando with that shit and get onto the lot or location they are shooting and post those naked BALE pictures, dam he is so hot. Well I can at least say I hate twilight, does that do anything for anyone who hates this talkback. Also hate Michael Bay as well, so please I hope I’m on your good side when all my crazy gay fans read this. I should stay on the topic of film though since this is actually a website about films, I sometimes forgot what I was talking about, you know, just forget, like that movie memento. The other day I was walking down the street and I saw black dude with a sack of weed, I bought it and went home to smoke, but it turned out to be grass, actual grass. What the fuck was that guys problem, or what was wrong with my eyesight to be exact. I just saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows part 2 last week, it was good up until the end. I thought they were all going to start fucking and making out with Dumbledore. You know like Harry starts sucking off Dumbledore’s cock cause he’s gay, and then Ron shows up to fuck Harry in the ass, that way Dumbledore and Ron have a Potter sandwich! Though that’s not how it ended, it ended with a creepy 19 years epilogue. I mean for real, I think all of you would have preferred that ending. I was forced to go see two Justin Timberlake movies last month, Bad Teacher and Friends With Benefits! I really think he needs to stop acting just because he was only good in the social network and that was because he was playing a faggot! I also heard Lady GAGA has a vagina, I would love to play pen the penis with her someday. You know some people say JEWS run Hollywood, I think they got that confused with Israeli. The only thing I see in California is a bad time and AIDS! So it surely cant be them. Did you know my favorite movie was Sin City, I say was because Robert Rodriguez hasn’t made a decent movie sense. I used to listen to U2 until I found out BONO was protestant. FUCK the English I say! The only good thing to come from there was The Sex Pistols! I think I figured out why Amy Wine-house died last week, she woke up and realized she was English! I love my jibber jabber! I also tuck my dick in-between my legs while I look into the mirror while THE SMITHS play! They say NETFLIX is going to take over home rentals, I say bullshit, not until they at least carry porn. You know they say JESUS saves, I say he turns you GAY! This is what happens when you run out of drugs, you get on here and ramble! Anyone like OUTKAST, they need to put out another album before this decade ends! Yesterday I was on the toilet and was shitting blood, I then got a cup and drank the blood from the toilet. I said yum so I made my sister put her period in a cup, then I put a few cubes of ice in it and went AHH! I then became a VAMPIRE and asked TIM BURTON if I could be in DARK SHADOWS, he said NO! Yet that was because I could actually act he told me, made me fill a little bit better! You know they say Stanley Kubrick was a genius but my dad called him a pervert! How do you take 20 years to make a soft core porn film? AT LAST WE WILL REVEAL OURSELFS TO THE AICN TALKBACK, AT LAST WE WILL HAVE REVENGE!

  • July 28, 2011, 4:35 a.m. CST

    Veronica Mars blu-ray please.

    by Volllllume3

Fucking great show. Party Down was awesome too.

  • July 28, 2011, 11:32 a.m. CST

    Why Star Trek so expensive?

    by jim

I believe Rodenberry's estate gets a hefty royalty from them and the only way to make it profitable for Paramount is to distribute them at a higher wholesale price than most TV dvd sets. Nasty in the Pasty is correct that fans will pay any price; Paramount knows they can still make money, despite a big licensing cost. Too bad the owners of WKRP in Cincinnati aren't as confident in that show's fanbase. I'd gladly pay Star Trek prices for that show's DVDs if they included all the original music.

    a few years back

    by Mike

a few years back, Herc posted a talkback for the Supernatural season finale, yet out of spite, disabled the talkback feature and gave us a link to The Zone which is terrible... now he wants us to buy supernatural dvds from him so he can take a cut...
