Assemble To See The Official AVENGERS Teaser Poster!!

Merrick here...

Marvel's AVENGERS movie sites has brought the film's official teaser poster on-line.  Click the image to find a larger version.

Saw the teaser for this attached to CAPTAIN AMERICA last night (be sure stick around through the end credits) - inconclusive but promising.  Truly loved CAPTAIN AMERICA, though.  As I told Harry, I didn't think Hollywood was still capable of generating movies like that.  I'm very glad I was wrong...

And what kind of teaser trailer was attached to the end credits of Captain America? Was it just the logo or the one that was leaked online? I really hope it was the leaked one. The leaked one turned me into a beast in heat!!! I can't wait to see the HD version of it!

The Avengers logo kind of sucks

    by Jake Pantlin

I get it... the arrow symbolizes "move out" or "forward" or some shit. But it is still kinf of lame. Oh, and X-Men: First Class: some of the posters could have been better, but I would hardly call their advertising a mess.

The posters were indeed a fucking mess. Truly pathetic considering what COULD have been done. It's a comic movie for Christ's sake, it should have been bold, graphic and well, not the pile of shit that ALL of the posters were.

    That logo my good sir

    by Weapon M

My good man- this logo represents the one from the comic books. I would have thunk that fellow thespians like myself who are interested in seeing some loyalty to the comic books would at least like to see familiarity. Better than using a Courier Font for the logo is it not? In more simplified terms- I am happy with it and I'm surprised more people aren't. But to each his/her own.

  • July 21, 2011, 10:38 a.m. CST

    X-Men First Class was great.

    by Hesiod2k7

Far, far better than Thor, let alone Green Lantern. At first, it was jarring to see Kevin Bacon playing Sebastian Shaw (as I am a great fan of the Hellfire Club story arc in the original X-Men series) -- but he did a fantastic job.

  • It's the logo from the fucking comic book series! You people have been brainwashed by the vanilla ice cream marketing that's infiltrated nearly every film property in Hollywood. I think they should have taken this approach for the new Spider-Man film. '' THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN '' from the original series would have been great to see... instead we get a repeat of the font (or a similar one) from the Raimi flicks. Sony is so lame.

Several Top Critics Assembling Behind Captain America

    by kiwicanuck

Just checked in at Rotten Tomatoes, and Cap is holding at around a "fresh" 65% with several top-notch critics onboard (Roger Ebert and the New York Times among them). Shouldn't speak too soon, but (knock on wood) it's looking like it'll be a "Fresh" by week's end on the site, which puts a little sparkle in the want-to-see factor for the casual observer. Would be cool to see it clear 70 though.

  • July 21, 2011, 10:57 a.m. CST

Yeah, the rating for Cap makes me nervous...

    by Astronut

Freaking Thor got a far higher percentage and, as good as that movie is (I personally really liked it), I figured this Cap film would be at or above that level. Shit. Makes me nervous.

  • July 21, 2011, 11:53 a.m. CST

Look at the arrow in the "A"

See how it's moving forward, bulging towards the future? Guess what that is supposed to look like. Yeah, you guessed it. It's a penis. See, they can show penis but not pussy. The brilliance of this poster is it caters to both sides of the audience. Damaged chicks who want to feel empowered will look at the "A" and say they want to see this and be just like Black Widow. Guys who want to dominate a chick like that will envision Captain America holding his arm around her chest like she's his property, and subliminally know her pussy is in his hands and they will want to see this. This poster is a masterful in how it controls the audience.

Choppah, did you see at 0:48 in the teaser?

    by thefirerises

Clearly, in the background, you can see Downey is doing the backwards peace symbol (aka pussy fingers). This is to signify to Maria Hill that he wants her, he wants to control her, to dominate her. However, his goatee set-up suggests that he also has a heart, and that he'll be respectful of her feelings, that he'll go down on her and not expect anything in return (that day). Afterwards, they will solve a forty-year old murder together. Then, at 0:53 in the trailer, its clear that a reference is being made to Agent Coulson's virginity, something that will be highly relevant to modern audiences. Joss Whedon's knocking this one out of the park, all we need now is for the red band trailer to be OK'd for Western audiences, and for the fucking uncensored teaser poster to be released. None of this phallic censorship BS. What, its good enough for Europe, but not us!?

  • July 21, 2011, 12:17 p.m. CST

Notice how the A logo, fittingly enclosed in a circle, envelopes the 'ASSEMBLE.' The poster designers are sending the subliminal message of anal sex to the audience. ASSemble is right in the shaft of the arrow, signifying where the penis is headed -- to an ASSembly with an anus. All this indicates that Hawkeye and Black Widow are going to get together and be the heroes of the film. Now consider this sentiment taken in combination with the '2012.' What else happens in 2012? That's right, the presidential election. This poster also symbolizes how Obama will fully embrace gay marriage in his re-election campaign. Very clever.

A good film based on a good story that's worth telling doesn't require a dozen leads.... take many of Marvel's protagonists (and the hotheaded actors who play them) from all recent films and put them together... can we expect a well thought-out story, worth being told, that doesn't forcefully divide its screentime down to the nanosecond for each of the actors? Too many egos will clash behind the scenes to make this work... a lot of cheese, no heart, and nothing at stake (don't expect anything "surprising", or maybe they'll throw in the death of a major character just for shits and giggles). I pray this will resonate beyond just its visuals. When you pile on a bunch of legendary characters together, you're guaranteed to look good. But then again, no movie shouldn't be able to look good these days.

  • July 21, 2011, 1:27 p.m. CST

funny how no AICN writers can write a review without spoilers.

    by DannerV2

They need to explain scenes and plot points in order to make their "own" points.

  • Green Lantern? Green dogpile. No one even attempted to actually "make" that into anything worthwhile. It's just done by the numbers, playing it safe, playing it dull, hoping to get some numbers. Thor? What? Taking the mythos of Ancient Gods and giving them the Marvel twists... yawn. You don't need every character in your Avengers movie to be tied in and introduced in their own film you know?... No one but our beloved geeks will even bother to catch these films. When I saw that awful Thor poster with one of the lamest and most predictable and unimaginable tagline ("The God of Thunder ...Thor"), I really chuckled at what passes as "entertainment" today. Why bother making such a movie? It's something that nobody will bother to remember a year from now. Nobody is going to see it twice. Cap just looks to me like another superhero movie of the week... Rogers gets his powers, fights some Nazis, saves the day. The end. Yes, it probably will be faithful to its source, but I feel that the source itself isn't intriguing enough to be put on the big screen. I mean, it's hard for your everyday person to identity anything on a personal level with Cap. Again, I hope I'm wrong. All I can say is that after the period between the late 90s, beginning with the R rated Blade, and up until about Batman Begins or maybe until the first Ironman, we haven't got seen any genuine effort to make a truly worthwhile and gutsy superhero movie. Everything is now rehashed, directed by your punk of the week and cgi'ed to death by banana fed monkeys... when are we going to see something ORIGINAL? I fear this Avengers movie will just be the amalgamation of all the recent less-than-memorable movies... an "Ironman 2" with a FINISHED script but just as aimless in direction.

About the reviews for CA so far...

    by DreadPirateRoberts

My personal theory is that you need to add around 10-15 points to Captain America's rotten tomatoes score as a handicap. The average journalist is likely as not to be skewed against this film right off the bat due to it being a hero with "America" in the title. Wouldn't want to come off too 'jingoistic' for liking it. Superman has renounced his American citizenship in the comics for Pete's sake. GI-Joe gets "internationalized" (still sucked). Pro-American AND Pro-American who happens also to be a soldier? Too much for some people. Of course, maybe it really is mediocre. But I still argue it has a reviewer bias to overcome right out of the gate.

Maybe the negative reviews are right (I haven't seen the movie yet). But it feels like most of those reviewers are disappointed that Cap isn't a cynical, sarcastic wise-cracker. Which, as Evans stated in interviews, would be completely wrong for the character.
