THE CABIN IN THE WOODS Gets Its Release Date!

We've been waiting patiently through the entire MGM bankruptcy fiasco about word of Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's CABIN IN THE WOODS, starring Chris Hemsworth, pre-THOR, in a movie that very much riffs off EVIL DEAD and other haunted house films. The film's been in the can since 2009, and the supporting cast looks great too - Richard Jenkins, Bradley Whitford, Jesse Williams - and I've been wanting to see this one in forever.
Now that the dust is settled, Lionsgate will release the film, and it looks like we now have a date - April 13, 2012. Now if someone could release RED DAWN, also by MGM and also starring Hemsworth - am I sensing a trend here? - all would be right in the world.

YOU DON'T FUCKING REMAKE EVIL DEAD. YOU JUST MAKE SOMETHING THAT PAYS HOMAGE WHILE STILL BEING ORIGINAL WITHOUT CALLING IT 'THE EVIL DEAD' BECAUSE THAT NAME IS ALREADY FUCKING TAKEN. YA GOT THAT? I won't ruin the plot for anyone, but it definitely has an unusual premise and I'm very curious to see how much of it they tell you about in the trailers and ads and all. If they don't tell you anything it'll just look like another teen slasher flick with maybe more quippy lines than usual. But if they tell you too much up-front, they ruin the fun surprise of slowly finding out what the fuck is happening to these kids and why. Kind of seems like they're screwed either way.

I had a copy of the script a year ago and it was pure crap. It played like a Scream movie, trying too hard to be funny. I hope its been worked on since. Oh and remakes will keep happening if you idiots who care about this stuff keep going to it or reviewing it. Don't give it press! Don't go and see it!

I know back in April there were articles talking about how they were going back in post production to digitally change a crapload of stuff. Basically, all the references & imagery about China were being changed to North Korea out of fear of pissing off our overlords & masters in China...
