Until I get back my Behind the Scenes Pics of the Day you’re gonna get more than you bargained for! I’m your goddamn partner!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Ah, Marion Ravenwood. Outside of Ellen Ripley, name me a better-constructed female character in blockbuster filmmaking. Karen Allen perfectly blended a feminine sensuality and a strong-willed asexual determination that made her more than the usual damsel in distress.
Which is interesting because that’s exactly what she is for much of the screen time, but because of Allen’s strong performance and Lawrence Kasdan’s smart writing Marion was elevated beyond the shortcomings of that type of characterization.
It’s a perfect character in a perfect movie. Raiders of the Lost Ark only gets better with each passing year and I’m starting to think we’ll never see its like again.
Thanks to Alexandre Poncet for sending this along! Click to embiggen!

with Katanga and Beloq...The wind is blowing...If you look closely, like I do every time I watch it, you can see bush through the dress. Oh yeah. Giggity.
-
There was a barely legal teenager who I worked with long ago who looked exactly like a younger version of Allen. I probably could have hit that had I tried.
-
Shame we only see her in that dress for a short period of time in the film.
-
It was one for the ages, my favorite film, and the best example of the kind of blockbuster that C.G.I. has destroyed.
-
My daughter is named Indiana. And it ain't cause I'm a Hoosier fan.

I am waiting on the BluRay for Lucas to have the marketplace swordsman shoot first.
by ClayMatthews
-
Even today.
-
Karen Allen - Margot Kidder. At last the reveal... THEY WERE BOTH THE SAME FUCKING BITCH!!!
-
Did she forget how to act? Actually, a lot of people either forgot how to act or didn't know how to get through a crappy script! So yes, I'll hang on to my memories of ROTLA and try to forget about the last Indiana Jones film that raped my summer.
-
She had me from that right hook she throws into Indy's jaw as he walks smugly into her bar.
Hasn't been a better written female lead since, Mr. Kasdan....so thanks to you, too.
Karen Allen was the perfect girl cast in a perfect role. Sad to imagine that if ROTLA was being made TODAY...the casting might be skewed towards a Megan Fox-type hottie in that role.
And...that makes me sick to my stomach.
Marion Ravenwood's tougness and sheer determination made her sexier than poor Megan will ever be. All thanks to the beautiful Karen Allen.

yeah, she actually couldn't act in Crystal Skull
by IWasInJuniorHighDickhead
It was really kind of awkward. But that is now and this is then. What a film. Can't imagine how cool it must have been to know very little about it and just go see it at the cinema.

Karen Allen waved to me as I passed her on some escalators 2 years ago
by D.Vader
I stood there dumbfounded as I passed her, and just sorta said "Hey... Karen.. Allen... you're... durrr..." And she just smiled at me and waved hello.
-
ahead of how Sallah and Brody were presented in Last Crusade. Those two characters were ruined a heck of a lot more than Marion was in the fridge nuking film.
-
What a great movie for an eight year old. Begged Dad to buy a bull whip for 2 years
-
I like the cut of your jib
-
Yep, very windy, shivering in that Nazi's hands, skin tight silk, it kinda' punches you in the face. Very filthy thoughts for a very cute girl.

Happy Birthday to Harrison Ford. "It ain't the years, it's the mileage." T.'.

It's just a tool of the trade like any other. It can be used well or abused.

And Jaws. And Close Encounters. Pieces of garbage, all of them. (Steve knows I'm joking. We kid around like that. Because he knows I really worship him.)

Indeed, sad as it is to say.

Follow these steps in order: Amazon Movies - Until September - Expedite ship that sumbitch - Remember to thank your friendly neighborhood talkbacker stargrove

Fucking Lucas changed the background plate where the Nazi truck plunges into that huge chasm during the truck chase. Got rid of the wonderful matte painting and put in a shitty digital one for better "perspective." Eat a dick, Lucas.
-
Notta one of em trying to squirm over to the Promised Land. By "Promised Land" I of course am referring to the area directly beneath Ms. Allen's Temple of poon.
-
I thought they were going to leave this one alone. That makes me angry. If I was radioactive, I would hulk out right now. I may just have to stick with the DVDs.
-
Sarah Connor. Not up there with Ripley, but pretty damn strong female character.
-
I was exactly 8 years old when Raiders came out.

Someone has to stop it!! Please!

Featuring a lively and engaging panel discussion with fellow visionary directors J.J. Abrams (Super 8) and James Cameron (Avatar), and moderated by 75th Anniversary Committee Chair Michael Apted, this "Game-Changer" event drew a maximum capacity crowd at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles and provided a deeply intimate, highly engaging reflection on one of the most influential and beloved filmmakers of all time.

And your right, we will never see another movie like it again.
-
Let the dead rest in peace, says I. Anyway, nice job on the YouTube montage.
-
I can't even watch Temple due to her screaming through two thirds of the movie. Allen shows how you can do sexy AND strong. Capshaw just shrieked.

I may be alone here but I think Capshaw did a fine job in Doom. Willie is
by Longtime Lurker
A superficial, self involved, low talent, shrill, whiny bauble. That is what Capshaw played. Perhaps we should give her credit for doing her job well. I for one would have thrown Willie out of the car in the first reel because I can't stand her. Then again, even as a character, it was a pretty smart choice to go in a direction completely different from Marion if they were not going to bring Marion back, which they couldn't do once they decided on a prequel. Yes, she grates, but that was by design, don't you think? It may be that Capshaw hit a false note here or there but for the most part I think we point to the writers for putting us through the purgatorial experience that is Willie Scott. (Honestly, why didn't Indy just throw her off the plane?)
-
The movie "Until September" is currently streaming on Netflix starring Ms. Allen if anyone is curious what her naughty parts look like.
-
can you pause and zoom in on said naughty parts via Netflix? Such veritable forces as Marion's lady humps and rump must be taken with the utmost seriousness and treated no differently than a blood splatter to a forensics investigator. Granted it's a better option than none so thanks for the tip. Yeah, I'm a pervert, so what, build a bridge and get over it.
-
Not much. Just you.

So on the set of Animal House, Karen Allen was refusing to go bottomless...

Donald Sutherland said he go first, whipped out his hams, and the rest is, as they say history.

I celebrate all the Indiana Jones flicks. With relish. And I'm hungry for another.

One thing that's always bugged me about the Well Of Souls sequence...
by Nasty In The Pasty
...is that Indy pushes the statue over so it breaks through the nearby wall...and yet when Marion emerges from the rubble, THERE ARE NO SNAKES. ANYWHERE. She was standing on the FOOT of the statue, surrounded by snakes, so if the statue got knocked over, she should have fallen directly ON the snakes and gotten bitten over and over and yet they just conveniently vanish (aside from the big one slithering out of the mouth of that mummified corpse).
-

sierratangofoxtrotuniform you realize the irony there?
by MurderMostFowl
Indiana Jones... Marion's age when they were lovers... yeah.
-
I am sort of glad we won't ever see a film like it again. It just makes Raiders that much more special and unique.

Beatrix Kiddo?
-
Back in the days when film was film, there were certain thigns you couln't do... like take a life size block of concrete and drop it on actual live snakes. Now stop for a second and ask yourself... which do you prefer. Missing snakes in the background of an ending scene...or... a CGI shitfest of snakes leaping at the camera and Indy spinning around in 3D while catching Marion at the last second as two asps jumping in the air and simultaneously biting each other on accident? You KNOW Lucas would have done it now days and Spielberg wouldn't be smart enough to tell him no.
-
Well said.
-
They wrote a great part for her in ROTLA, not Indiana Jones and the ROTLA, but I have never found her attractive. She is much too tomboyish for me, whereas Kate Capshaw was hot, despite being shrill of voice.
-
Yeah, I never noticed it until they ran Raiders on TV a few months back. Maybe I'm late to this party, but I don't know when they slipped it in. Here's a link to a youtube vid comparing the old shot and the new "enhanced" version. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_sFW8grQtU

by Bass Ackwards
Sarah Connor, Princess Leia?
-
But you know, in the first movie... not so much. I'm not sure Leia belongs on that list either, though both are good female characters. Not quite as good as the two he mentioned though.
-
There's a lot of actresses out there where God did a damn fine job on the construction side. ;-)
-
As far as female characters that can kick butt and take names, I'm inclined to include more than a few Bond girls but especially Michelle Yeoh. On a side but related note, it bothered me when the box set of the first three Indy movies changed it to Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and that they had Alfred Molina's name in the opening credits when he had maybe two minutes of screen time.
-
Copy that.
-
I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been some dumb fuck pop into this thread and say "Meh, it wasn't that good". Because should there be such a douche, and there are many who frequent this site, they would instantly qualify as The Biggest Fuckface in the Universe™.
-
Raiders is cool but it's all really just Allan Quartermain with a different name.
-
Don't care, I loved "Crystal Skull!" Had some "odd" moments, but it was damn fun. Loved the warehouse escape, the motorcylce chase when Indy crawls through the car and back on the bike and the end when the alien ship comes alive. So much to love, sucks to one of those that hate it. It really sucks. As for Raiders, wow! Just WOW! Can't wait for the Blu and I love this to an unhealthy degree.
-
CG also erased Ford's reflection when he's staring at the nasty cobra. Bitch about that? No? Full of hypocracy are we? Why of course we are...
-
Your award is in the mail.

Awesome!

Poor Karen, opted to star in the shitastic KOTCS just to pay her bills.
by Stalkeye
I'll always remember her from both Raiders and JC's Starman. And of course Animal House. Great filmography save for the obvious...
-
She was retired by choice, I doubt she had any bills.
-
It's not that we hate CG, it's that when you give Luca$ an inch, he takes a mile. Just think about that stupid reptilian hamster in the musical number in Jabba's Palace in ROTJ SE that replaced the singing anteater chick. That musical number has horrifying compared to the original. Who knows what else he is gonna do to the beloved ROTLA.

nightarrows - Dude, Don't give them any ammo. I worked with several people over the last few years who have never seen it. I wept for them and prayed for their souls. They were all under 25, big surprise!

Karen Allen - one of the dumbest actresses of all time - career wise
by Hey_Kobe_Tell_Me_How_My_Ass_Tastes
if ya don't believe me, check out the movies she turned down after Raiders, then comes slinking back 30 years later to grin like a fool
-
Just a great girl all around
-
See, it just isn't that big of a deal. It's all fake and bullshit anyway, why would that bother you or anyone else, (I know, but I'm asking rhetorically) Those movies are still the movies you grew up with, why does a few seconds of a scene suddenly render it awful. I've heard the reasons and I still don't get them because aside from one switch, Greedo shooting first, but that switch has now been made to where both shoot at the same time so why all the rage, still? The rest are insignificant and kinda cool. The ending to Jedi was vastly improved...music especially. Why do I know most of the rants are bullshit is because the fanbabies scream how awful the ewoks are, yet they suddenly love them when its about the SEs so yeah, I know bullshit when I hear it. Just lighten up and ignore the changes, they don't destroy the films, if you think so, then that's a very sad sentiment.
-
What did she turn down?
-
...My favorite film until the day I die. Modern filmmakers should be forced to watch Raiders, Lawrence of Arabia, and other classics and feel fucking ashamed to call the shite they put out 'films'. SHAME on you bastards, you know who you are....THIS is how it's DONE....
