Listen up you primitive screw-heads! This is my Behind the Scenes Pics of the Day!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Can you guys believe that Army of Darkness is almost 20 years old? How fucked up is that? Seriously, I’m getting old. With the Evil Dead remake talk resurfacing and the realization that the last installment is nearly 20 years old I think it just may be time to go pick up some Metamucil and check myself into the nearest old folks’ home.
Today’s photo comes to us from a reader who was an extra in Army of Darkness (If I remember correctly… forgive me, dear reader, but I seem to have misplaced your original email) and got a shot of Sam Raimi directing the horde with Bruce Campbell’s Ash at the ready!
Groovy!
Thanks to a mysterious reader whose info I couldn’t find for sending this along! Click to embiggen!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s behind the scenes pic is but a shadowy reflection of you.

Fuck the proposed remake.

BTW which ending of the movie do you prefer? the good or the bad?
by KilliK
i like both, but i think the bad fits better the ,always hunted by bad luck, character of Ash.
-
Like Bubba HoTep without the makeup. It will be the Dark Knight of comedy horror.
-
You want some..huh? You wanna a little ? There HAS to be a 4th with Ash now in the future battling zombies.
-
It's a trick. Get an axe. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2gSf5UMZ8ms
-
yeah it certainly fits in more with the character of Ash always fucking up (its apt as its like the ultimate fuck up!) its the 'official' end i believe...
-
This pic kinda shows up how fancy dress hire the costumes for EVIL DEAD 3 were. How come the little 2 minute epilogue on EVIL DEAD 2 looked more authentically medieval than the whole of EVIL DEAD 3? Raimi must have had more money for number 3, how come it looked so cheap?
-
here in the UK, we could only get the depressing ending, took ages to find bootlegs with the awesome 'shop S-Mart!' ending. What a film.
-
I concur, and this is something that has always bothered me. The end of ED2 sets up a dark, gritty medieval horror flick. Ash was on the verge of insanity if he hadn't already fallen into it. And he was the only guy who could stop an ancient evil. ED3/ARMY delivered TV quality production values, looked too clean, and was way too goofy to be creepy. I grew up a huge ED2 fan and ED3 is my all-time biggest movie disappointment because it set up the epic and delivered the pedestrian. I'd like somebody with some balls to remake ED3 as the EXCALIBUR-style horror movie it should have been.

Sure, Mid-evil Dead wasn't as good as it could have been
by Domi'sInnerChild
I think think ED2 has the greatest messed up ending since Chewy not getting a medal, so yeah it was a letdown following it up with more comedy than horror. But Alien 3 will always hold the mantle of most disappointing movie ever. NOTHING can top that.
-
I'm sure it looks amazing
-
Anyone else having that problem?

I like the "oh crap" bleakness of the ending Raimi wanted, and I respect it - but it's a lot less entertaining. When I finally got the DVD with it many years ago, I was very disappointed at how flat this "lost" ending turned out to be. The whole film was a bit of a farce, so a farcical ending fit just fine. And then I find out the original theatrical ending wasn't even on the DVD, even as a bonus. Feh.
-
Too bad I can't get a very good vibe about it from the trailer. More like a long teaser really. I have no idea what the story is and I actually find Ms. Rapace or whatever it is to be very manish and not attractive at all. Damn. Although, I had the same vibe about the first one and I liked it a lot. We'll see!
-
Dumbest idea I've ever heard. Just fucking make Evil Dead 4.
-
And this is my 2nd favorite film of all-time.
-
the s-mart ending. it just seems too stupid that someone would forget how to count to five, or whatever, just because some rocks fell, even Ash. the original ending only works with the original opening, but even then it's a little out of place considering the tone of the rest of the movie. this was my introduction to the evil dead series, so i'll always love this movie. i saw it in theaters when i was a kid and didn't discover it was part of a trilogy until high school. i always figured the opening was just quick in order to get to the medieval stuff the first time i saw it. anyway, as soon as i discovered the originals, i probably watched evil dead 2 fifty times in the span of a year.
-
How can you laugh and shit your pants for three whole movies (although more laughing with 3)
-
just read it on yahoo. two of the most famous tv shows/theme songs are his legacy. Gripe at the quality of Gilligan and Brady, but they are part of our cultural heritage. Can't say I'll actually miss him, but my afterschool memories are filled with hours of his reruns. and the ever-enduring male schoolyard discussion ginger or maryann?
-
has there ever been a film more enjoyable to watch in an actual movie theater? no. no there has not. i'd pay money to see only two other films in the theater again <Die Hard and Aliens>
-
That scene in the graveyard where he's doing the Three Stooges style eye-pokes and slaps with the multiple skeleton hands never ceases to kill me.
-
And seeing Army of Darkness in 93 as a result was life affirming.
-
What's the other ending?
-

BLAMMMMMM!!!!!!
-
This movie is great. I prefer the S-Mart ending to the Big Ben ending. I originally saw this at a test screening in Pasadena back in 1992 and it ended with Ash riding off into the sunset. Kind of a let down. Upon its theatrical release in 1993, the new S-Mart ending made a world of difference. Since then I've seen this movie many, many times...most preciously at the New Beverly in a triple feature with Evil Dead and Evil Dead2. That was good time at the movies.

Love this movie, but was a little dissapointed after the first two.
by SAILOR_RIPLEY
Can someone please tell me that the rating on this changed to R at some point. I've sworn to people for years that this was PG-13 when I saw it in the theater. I remember how bummed I was when I saw it was not R, or am I crazy? As far as people saying this and Alien 3 are their biggest dissapointments ever, that honor would have to go to Indy 4 for me.
-
So neither are you :p and if I remember correctly I am older than you, I am 32.
-
which was still a letdown, since the first two were released unrated

I Will Not See A Remake, But I Would LOVE To See Evil Dead 4 Staring Bruce Campbell As An Older (But Not Wiser) Ash!
by NeonFrisbee
Is Raimi retarded and not realize that the entire audience for Evil Dead are also huge Bruce Campbell fans?

SAM RAIMI, WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING?
-
...they still do the time travel/medieval times thing in part 3 (or 2, however they count it). That's the best part of these movies, to go from scary cabin in the woods flick to medieval fantasy, time travel, death coaster, apocalypse (cut ending) movie... Actually I really want just Evil Dead 4, but I'll take what I get.
-
Got the opportunity to meet him during the book tour for If Chins Could Kill when he came through Dallas. He was a total class act and stayed way beyond his scheduled time to meet with every fan that was in attendance. This was right before the first Spider-Man came out and shared with the group that his big role in the film was to give Spider-Man his name!

Pointing a rifle at a demon floating down the isles of S Mart. Perfect!

fan of Dj Screw that is

So how many versions of AOD have you purchased in your life including different formats and cuts? I think I'm at 4 currently. I got the original VHS with the S-Mart ending, the VHS with the Apocalypse ending, the Bruce Campbell Vs. the AOD DVD, and the Screwhead Edition blu. I'm only at 3 for Evil Dead 2 - VHS, DVD, and blu.
