The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day is one year old today! For its birthday we go back where it began!

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

Yep, one year ago today I began this column with a fantastic shot from the set of Ridley Scott’s Alien. The response to the column, both in talkback and privately, was exceptional and I think if that initial picture hadn’t been so good the response probably wouldn’t have been so positive and I might have abandoned the column.

Thankfully it was and I’ve had an amazing time with this column, which has grown past my wildest dreams. I’ve gotten images that have blown my mind, be it the amazing self portrait Kubrick shot over Nicholson’s shoulder during the making of The Shining or the fun stuff sent in by those folks who worked on movies, like Randy Cook’s picture from the making of The Gate or Alex Winter’s Bill and Ted candid shot.

I have many more pics for you in the weeks and months to come, but I wanted to take a moment to thank you all for supporting the column over the last year. I do hope you’ve enjoyed checking it out every day as much as I enjoy organizing it.

Since I’m a fan of nostalgia I wanted to celebrate by posting a shot from Ridley Scott’s Alien. Not only does it make sense for the benchmark anniversary of the column, it’s a sweet shot, too, showing off the amazing Nostromo model. You guys know I’m nutty for model work and this is a great show-off shot of Ridley Scott directing a shot of one of cinema’s most famous spaceships.

Thanks to reader Simon Landry for sending this one along! Click to (slightly) embiggen!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.

That’s not all. Remember back in the pre-site revamp days when I’d have the list of previous BTS pics at the end of each article? Well, the redesign messed up a lot of coding and that list ended up being way too long to tag onto each article, but I’ve been quietly recoding and collecting each pic onto one page. I’m going to post that page today and starting tomorrow there’ll be a link at the bottom of each BtSPotD to every single image used in this article.

Keep an eye on the site for the complete collection of BTS images!

Tomorrow’s behind the scenes pic will be one to talk about ‘round the water cooler.
