Let's watch TRANSFORMERS 3 at the Alamo South in Austin in 3D with AICN.

Hey folks, Harry here... and I've got a TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON screening set up for 10:30pm at the Alamo Drafthouse South this Monday the - Now, I have to warn you - if you have a deep attachment to Chicago - you may want to take some sort of relaxant before seeing this film, because Chicago will get the snot kicked out if in this film.  I set it up for 3D because frankly - this film is astonishing to watch in 3D.   Easily the best 3D since AVATAR - and in many respects I think it is superior.   SO - we'll be seeing this in its idealized form.   The Drafthouse's 3D has been fine-tuned specifically by Michael Bay's 3D technicians for optimal brightness and flat out wow factor.   Personally, I'm looking forward to checking out the 3D again - that last hour is just jaw-dropping.

Now - I want to make sure I get this filled and everyone notified before Monday - so this is a first come, first served screening.  I will be over-booking the screening, because we've had trouble with people not showing.   Here's how to get in.

SCREENING FULL - Emails Have Been Sent to Winners!

See you Monday Night!

I'll email everyone that gets on the list some point on Sunday.

Saw it a few weeks ago at a trade screening..

    by ShogunMaster

It's by far the best of the 3. A storyline that you can follow, the action scenes are slowed down so you can make out who is fighting who (and for the 3d), and they even take more time in nameing the Transformers. The blonde girl is way hotter than Megan Fox and there aren't farting or testicle jokes thrown in this time. Don't get me wrong, it's still a Bay film and even though you can follow the storyline, it doesn't mean you won't be saying 'why don't they just do that, or why the hell are they doing that?' type things to yourself. But the action more than makes up for it and the second half when it does the Chicago destruction is awesome. It gets really dark at that point with human and robots getting killed off. And the city looks like Terminator in the future. All in all, it's a great summer flick (better than X:Men and Thor, by far).

The buzz on this is positive, and really, with all that money that had piled up from the first two, they should be able to make this movie awesome. Plus, Monday is my birthday, so Happy Birthday to Me!

Harry - Michael Bay has technicians?

    by thubbard76

Do they work for Bay, or did the staff at the Drafthouse just set up their equipment to Bay's specs? The Bullock IMAX here in Austin has its own on-site tech, and their system is already set to exceed Bay's requirements. I know this because I helped set it up.

In 1994, Harry Knowles fell while pushing a cart up a ramp at a convention, and was subsequently run over by the cart with its 1,200-pound load of memorabilia. The accident injured his back and left him virtually bedridden. The fact that he 1) can walk at all 2) allow you to say whatever you want on HIS website, makes him a billion times better than you. Who the fuck are you to say anything ill of anyone? Grow the fuck up. And btw, big guys get ladies too. A lot more often than self righteous assholes like yourself.

I just mean that if you're expecting Godfather, don't get too excited. If you just want a fun summer/popcorn flick, it's the best that has come out this summer so far.

  • I've never seen a picture of him where he wasn't morbidly obese and he was also fat as a kid. So that story about him being injured doesn't fly. Then there's the fact that he's been running AICN for well over a decade and during that time he never lost a fucking pound because he sits on his ass, stuffs his face and watches movies all day and night. Also, he's had the money to get in shape for quite some time and is only getting this "physio" (read -> liposuction) now because he's pushing 40 and the weight is taking its toll on his health. There's no reason in the world he couldn't have gone on a diet and got a treadmill ten years ago and got himself into shape. No, he's living the natural progression of being a gluttonous monster and is only trying to lose the weight now out of self-preservation.

  • Bay has never made a decent movie in his whole life except for Bad Boys 2 which was Bay throwing a tantrum because the Academy didn't give him any Oscars for that piece of fucking shit Pearl Harbor. That's why BB2 turned out soo well as Bay splooged his ID all over the screen and made a gloriously violent, sadistic and juvenile movie. But the Transformers movies have been worthless trash and this one will be no different.

Don't get the hate towards Harry at all. If you don't like him, visiting his website isn't the brightest move. And attacking him on said website doesn't make any sense either. What did he ever do to you? You don't like him, click a different link on your browser. No one forced you here. But ya, don't see why anyone would throw hate at the guy. He doesn't complain about you being an asshole.

Ban this prick! I agree that some animosity towards Harry is warranted based on his positive Godzilla and AOTC reviews...but you are taking it too far implying that he diddles little boys and isn't taking his rehab seriously. Unless he fucked your gf or something, your rants are way over the top and out of place. I would hope he bans you from the site shortly. And now way Transformers 3 will be good...the same filmmakers did it that created the abortion that was Transf 2 and you just can't up your game that much.

Pretty obvious Harry has no passion for movies

    by Stormwalkers

If Harry had any credibility at all, he would have the guts to stand up to the studios and tell them that 3D is a steaming pile of shit. Instead he has turned into a 'yes man' of sorts. He often get's criticized for being a sell out because of biased reviews, now if there was any doubt it has clearly extended to technology. I remember the HD-DVD/Blu-Ray debacle where Harry picked the wrong side. Now it's supporting 3D. I tell you what Harry - why don't you man the fuck up, draw a line and watch the rest of us rally behind you to bring about the end of 3D. If we all boycotted the fucking 3D screens and just saw it in 2D it would send a clear message that it is pointless in continuing to make 3D movies. Even a casual observer of the AICN talkbacks can tell you that the vast majority of people on here hate 3D. There is now box office proof that 3D goes down like a lead balloon - and the only reason a movie gets a sharp increase in 3D tickets now is when they restrict the number of 2D screens. 3D Blu-Ray sales are non-existent. Overall it's the biggest 'con job' ever in the tech world - it'll be talked about in a decades time as the biggest waste of money since the 2001 TechBubble collapse. When we're all looking back and laughing about how shit 3D was, and how the studios/hardware companies tried to shove this abortion of a 'inovation' down our throats where do you want to fall? Me personally - I'd like to be on the side that from the outset said, 3D was a waste of time. Avatar may or may not have been a good movie (for me that's a objective thing). But I haven't had the slightest desire to watch it a second time for the 3D. It was like going on theme park ride - fun for 3 minutes then when you're off you don't really need to experience it again. Transformers 3 - well, I doubt it'll go down in the annals of time as a cinematic masterpiece. By layering a 3D gimmick over the top is just the studios way of trying to recoup some of their money - hoping that maybe lightning will strike twice. Bay said himself he hated 3D - now he's changed his tune. No doubt someone tapped him on the shoulder and said that if they're going to sink ~$200M into financing the film it'll be in 3D so they can see a ROI - if he didn't like it he would have been shown the door. If Harry loved cinema, had any sort of passion or integrity about films he would admit that 3D is crap. It is impossible for 3D to improve a movies plot. Harry you should have said to Paramount and Bay - "Sure i'd love to do a promo for TF3. But, seriously my readers hate 3D - so we'll be doing it in 2D". When they jumped up and down about how brilliant it would look Harry should have just said "Look Michael you were right in 2009 - 3D blows, you shouldn't have bothered because no one even cares - 2D, take it or leave it". Then maybe with some resistance, the suits will start to realise their little experiment has failed and we can all move on.

  • For instance, Thor was my first 3D movie and although not all of it worked, overall I fucking LOVED it because when it worked it felt truly immersive. But that was one of those fucking post-conversion conjobs. However, the Captain America trailer looked mindblowing and that's because it was actually shot in 3D. So the problem is not the 3D in itself, it's these fucking movies that have been converted which is giving the tech a shitty rep. I want to see EVERYTHING in 3D now but that doesn't extend to home viewing because I think the 3D should be reserved for the cinema as it gives me an extra incentive to see a movie.

    The con that is digital

    by imaxguyaustin

Special "digital" print. Yeah, right. Basically the brightness and contrast are simply "turned up" like you'd do on a television. The problem is that you are now CREATING SOMETHING THAT WASN'T THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. You may rest assured there will be some degree of image degradation. This is also the problem with converted 2D to 3D images. Everyone notices the lack of detail in those types of 3D conversion. You'll get the same problems with these special digital "prints". I've done a lot of work in the last week to prepare for this film. We've got the biggest screen, triple the image resolution of digital, more powerful sound system, and our tickets are cheaper! Free parking under the museum after 6 PM! I'm not trying to diss the Drafthouse....they are the best theaters to see a "normal" film. But if you want the highest quality possible on a movie screen, you have to go to a film-based IMAX. I'll be webcasting the final assembly of the 97 reels beginning this afternoon at 4 PM CDT. If ya ask the ushers, we even give tours of our 5 million dollar projection facility to those who are interested in why IMAX film is the best way to see a film! This now sounds like an advertisement, so I'll stop now.... :)

    by ganymede3010

That's why they show these movies in 2-D also to please you archaic minded cinema Luddites who refuse to embrace change. My fucking lord, how is it ruining your movie experience if someone in the next theater is enjoying the movie in 3-D while you're watching your stale ass 2-D film?

After the sheer stupidity on display in TF2...

Why the fuck does this movie get a pass?

    by Andrew Coleman

"Better than X-men or Thor"... Translated that means "I'm full of shit". No way. The first half of the first film is solid and then it just becomes generic trash. The second film is hands down the worst movie ever fucking made. No plot. Just dick/fart/racist jokes mixed in with dogs humping each other. I'm glad they slowed the action down but this movie will be a fucking abortion. I seriously don't understand how types here who rag on anything or almost everything. Yet they pause here and go "It's for kids" or "It's a popcorn movie" yet then hammer others for saying the same thing for other films. It's bull shit. Bay and those stupid fucks who made the first two won't trick me. No way, not paying for 2D and for sure not fucking 3D. Those of you who do are fucking jokes. You should not be allowed to comment on any other films. Period.

Sentinel Prime betrays Autobots Prime kills Megatron

    by Trannyformers_Apologist

Action scenes are boring, over-dramatic, and cheesy due to: Bay's military fetish Overblown patriotism Horrible cinematography Shitty editing Linkin Park power ballad Action scenes suffer due to a lack of suspense and drama because of: No emotional connection to the characters due to the lack of character development, and a structured narrative. None of it matters because of the characters die and come back to life every five minutes. No character development and story cohesion/logic. Incoherent robot designs ruin the action scenes. Transformers are barely in the movie, have no character development and little dialog. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley terrible acting. Still plenty of horrible cringe inducing comedy.

    by conspiracy

More than anyone in Hollywood, more than JJ Abrams or at this point even Spielberg...Bay knows EXACTLY that the vast majority of cheap beer swilling 4x4 driving Texas cunt punchers, Gangstas, welfare bitches and tailless monkeys want to see. The guy isn't about making art, or even quality...he is about making loads of fucking MONEY...and his films on average do just that. I wish the fucker was a public company...I'd buy stock in him. Michael Bay is the Wal-Mart of Movies...;hated, laughed at, but ultimately everyone goes there sooner or later.

  • June 26, 2011, 6:36 p.m. CST

    Well said, Conspiracy.

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

Love him or hate him, the guy knows what he's doing. Like YackBacker said, Bay is an incredibly efficient filmmaker. He works with the same crew, he bangs out his set-ups and shots, and he brings his movies in on time and under budget. Sure, his body of work may not be classic-level material but he is an auteur; one that does whatever the fuck he wants while the bean counters smile at all the $$$ his money-shot style brings in. Gotta respect the bastard...

  • June 26, 2011, 6:44 p.m. CST

I never saw TF2 but I just might check this one out in 3D...

    by Mr. Nice Gaius

...because if anyone can do something different and kinetic with the technology, Bay strikes me as relatively capable. (Fuck! I can't believe I said that...)

  • This is not to excuse Orci and Kurtzman, because those two idiots deserve as much criticism as they should. But in the end the top responsibility, where the buck ends is with Bay. If Orci and Kurtzman helped those movies being bad, Bay put the final stone. Trash fuckmers 3 will be a terrible movie despiste the supposedly lack of involvement from orci and Kurtzman because Bay directed it. As for the supposed lack of involvement of Orci and Kurtzman on the movie, i call bulslhit on that. I'm quite certain those two asslcowns did uncredited script-doctoring on the movie. Of couse this will be denied as the time of release. but i bet one or two years from now we will know they were still involved with the movie. And the reson why their involvement has been kept a secret is so not to soil their next big chance at the top, COWBOYS AND ALIENS.

  • And the fact they say it's not as good as the horrible piece of retard shit that was the first just ciments the fact that the 3rd movie is also a stupid dumb ass shitty fucking movie. As if anything else would be to expect from Michael Retard Piece Of Shit Bay. Fuck Michael Bay up his fucking ass!

I haven't paid to see a movie in 3D since "Avatar"

    by Kammich

The theater I used to work at still lets me in for free, but they don't do 3D(and very limited digital, for that matter). The only movie I've paid to see in 3D was "Avatar" and I thought it was worth the upcharge... but nothing since then has convinced me to pay the extra dough for the onslaught of dodgy 3D that is released every Friday. I think that might change with Transformers. Bay can truly shoot the hell out of Summer spectacle action, and considering he was once a staunch critic of 3D, I'm intrigued to see what he does with it. I liked the 1st film as a coming-of-age/boy-and-his-first-car type of film, but I absolutely hated the 2nd film. My old man saw both films with me, and he really enjoyed both(he loves his 'splosions). So... should I spring the $25 or whatever to take him to see it in 3D(good son)? Or just get him in for free at the theater I used to work at(mediocre, cheap son)?
