love me some dinosaurs

  • June 24, 2011, 8:48 p.m. CST

    also...

    by Cyan09

No news on Spielberg's recent comments that the Jurassic Park franchise should be rebooted rather than develop the 4th movie that has had so many problems?

  • June 24, 2011, 8:51 p.m. CST

    this could be fun

    by Patch

Don't get your hopes up, but consider me pulling for it

  • June 24, 2011, 9:05 p.m. CST

    This should hold me over.

    by Jason LeGore

    Until the JP reboot.

  • June 24, 2011, 9:11 p.m. CST

How can they afford JP-quality dinos on a TV budget?

  • June 24, 2011, 9:25 p.m. CST

Blame it on the Terra Nova.

Please don't link to that "The Killer" blu disc

    by Antz

It is absolute crap in terms of picture quality. People are better off with the DVD version.

  • June 24, 2011, 10:05 p.m. CST

Dinos are easy, not that expensive.

    by mistergreen

They can reuse the same model for each episode and even some animations. Remember the old school He-man where they would recycle the same He-man run cycle every episode?

  • June 24, 2011, 10:18 p.m. CST

Seriously? Spielberg talked about rebooting JP?

    by SmokingRobot

WTF? What next, a remake of 'Jaws'?

  • June 24, 2011, 11:02 p.m. CST

I also don't understand the point in rebooting JP

    by iamnicksaicnsn

Are they really going to be able to top the first one? Couldn't they just retcon The Lost World and JP3 out of existence and make a direct sequel to the original? The Lost World the book was leaps and bounds better than the movie, if they are going to remake anything, why not do that and tailor it to the book?

  • June 24, 2011, 11:03 p.m. CST

    Ryan Dunn

    by lostboytexas

    yes, Ryan Dunn!

  • June 24, 2011, 11:21 p.m. CST

Its been 18 years since JP, maybe TV has caught up

    by Saen

Highly doubtful. I have expect the dinos to look worse then those ones in Sliders.

  • June 25, 2011, 1:04 a.m. CST

    JP

    by Jason LeGore

They could reboot the series and actually be faithful to the books. I remember reading TLW and thinking how fucking awesome of a movie it could be. Boy, was I wrong. The book and movie were two completely different beasts.

  • June 25, 2011, 2:27 a.m. CST

Yeah the Book was excellent, the film was just a nice spectacle!

    by CeejayNightwing

But most people never read the book, they have n idea how intelligent Ian Malcolm was because the character in the film was just a womaniser. And half of what they couldn't do from the book ended up in JP2!

  • June 25, 2011, 3:15 a.m. CST

    We have primetime Dinosaurs

How about some Micronauts? And not the easy to assemble toys.

usually I am against reboots and remakes but

    by Cyan09

Having been a huge fan of JP since I was 7 and the original was released in theaters, I actually think remaking the first two movies is a good idea. There is so much material that should have been used for the big screen. In the first novel there are scenes: with the T-rex chasing Grant and the kids in a rubber raft, swimming after them in a lake. The juvenile halfway grown Rex was completely cut from the movie. The ending where Grant and others seek out the raptor nests in caves to try and destroy them before they are rescued by helicopter and the whole island is bombed. In the sequel, novel, we need to see the raptor nest/motorcycle chase. We need the villain character Lewis Dodgson. And for fucks sake we need those creepy Chameleon Dinos.

Spielberg stole Conan Doyle's title....The Lost World.

    by LORDOFLIGHT

Hey Spielberg....might be a good idea to remake the 2nd JP as it was crap and actually call it something original instead of stealing the title of a great piece of literature by a great writer.

  • June 25, 2011, 12:21 p.m. CST

Watch the BBC's Lost World....the dinos look great.

    by LORDOFLIGHT

For all you people saying how can they afford JP quality dinos on a tv budget they don't look bad to me....and it's one of THE best (if not the best) dinosaur stories. Some people seem to think the original JP had great dinosaurs and there's been no good ones since but that's not true. And the dinos in the original JP aren't perfect either.

  • June 25, 2011, 1:01 p.m. CST

    Stealing Conan Doyle's title.....

    by Kyle

That was NOT spielberg dude. It was Michael Chrichton who stole the name first. Remember, JP was a book first.

  • June 25, 2011, 1:42 p.m. CST

It can't be worse than "Falling Skies"

    by aversiontherapy2

    I hope.

  • June 25, 2011, 3:20 p.m. CST

It was both of them saulsilver.

    by LORDOFLIGHT

But yes....I suppose it was Crighton who stole it first.......but Spielberg could've called the film something else. Something original. Even JP2 would have been better than taking it from Sir Arthur.

  • June 25, 2011, 3:22 p.m. CST

    Interesting posters though......even if..

    by LORDOFLIGHT

this sounds like a bit of a Primeval rip off (with massive plot holes). And the usual kid friendly dino effort from Spielberg.

  • June 25, 2011, 4:09 p.m. CST

    Terra Nova

    by warren bishop

As I see it, "Terra Nova" has a few massive things against it. First, for the last 20 years, everything Spielberg does - has to be based around the problems of raising a family against (dinosaur attack, alien invasion etc.) - the only time this was done well was in "Jurassic Park". Every time he's tried to do that since - you end up with something really crappy like "War of The Worlds". In fact, I'd go so far as to say Spielberg has kind of lost it, with the exception of "Munich", most of his movies and tv shows for the past 15 years have kind of blown. Secondly, Brannon Braga is one of the executive producers. He has the reverse midas touch, every show he's involved with turns to shit (or even starts out that way): "Flash Forward", "Threshold", "Star Trek" etc. I don't have high hopes for this, and neither should you.

  • June 25, 2011, 5:12 p.m. CST

@lordoflight You mean the un-produced stop motion Primeval with the Yeti?

    by the Green Gargantua

Why am I obsessed with that?

  • June 25, 2011, 6:01 p.m. CST

I kinda like the bug one

    by Turingtestee

The other two not at all.

  • June 25, 2011, 8:48 p.m. CST

Still wishing this meant they were bringing back Wiseguy.

    Land Of The Deliberately Lost

    by tangcameo

Speaking of JP dinos on a TV budget, from what I saw of the trailers, the dinos seemed a bit cut-and-paste like the lions in Gladiator.

  • June 26, 2011, 3:19 a.m. CST

The poor CGI on Falling Skies is a terrible sign

    by Domi'sInnerChild

Somebody decided buying the Speilberg name was worth more than production costs or hiring decent writers. Just think about those battle suits vs. BG or Firefly. If the Dinos look closer to Megashark than the monsters on Fringe, you know where the money went.

  • June 26, 2011, 4:58 a.m. CST

    J.P reboot..........

    by blackflowerX

The first film was the only good one , and that was only because the God like Bob Peck was in it.

Totally agree domi'sinnerchild, the CGI was utterly crap in Falling Skies , it was a total let down .

Its not all bad though....Breaking Bad's back soon. Thank fuck.

  • June 26, 2011, 6:21 a.m. CST

I bet it goes something like this...

    ROOOAAAARRRRR!

The tv teasers don't look bad..

    by alienindisguise

I'll give the first season a shot.

  • June 26, 2011, 10:22 a.m. CST

Also, odd that the teasers haven't been on this site

    by alienindisguise

  • I smell Amazing Stories turd.

  • June 26, 2011, 11:30 a.m. CST

I mean the ITV Primeval series green gargantua.

    by LORDOFLIGHT

It's a fairly new British series and has cgi effects. I think you must be talking about some old unseen project.

  • June 26, 2011, 11:39 a.m. CST

What warrenbishop says about Spielberg and families is correct.

    by LORDOFLIGHT

Whenever it's dino's or aliens now Spielberg has to have an annoying family with bratty kids caught in the middle of it...like the awful War of the Worlds. This would have been far more interesting if they had some research team going back in time without said brats.

  • June 27, 2011, 2:36 a.m. CST

Kids brutally killed on Falling Skies and Terra Nova

    by Domi'sInnerChild

Awesome twist. Coincidentally, both series have them killed after doing the fist bump where the hand expodes. Series both improve dramatically as parents must live with the regret of bringing their kids along for the ride and then must actually work to save the planet instead of clocking time for the next Hallmark touching family moment.

  • June 27, 2011, 2:57 a.m. CST

I have a funny story about dinosaurs.

    by Mel

On the news there was this black news anchor (totally ghetto) and they screwed up and cut to a dinosaur exhibit and she had to ad lib...and she called one of the dinoraurs a "tyra-naw-serus"

  • June 27, 2011, 5:33 a.m. CST

It got Stephen Lang of course it will be awesome!

    by chien_sale

the guy pratically run the Sentinels. FACT

    Falling Skies

    by warren bishop

I watched last night's episode somewhat reluctantly. It was filled with so much sickly, sweet sentimentality - it made my teeth hurt - not to mention annoying teenagers, and characters doing stupid things to save their kids. Nothing makes me lose interest in a program faster than when most of the main characters routinely do stupid things. I really should've known this is what the show would be like though. The opening sequence where they use the child's drawing/voice over to describe the alien invasion is lazy and unimaginative, it should have been a warning. I wonder if Spielberg and the writing staff sit around the writing room, listening to that song "The Greatest" over and over again while they come up with this crap? Well I gave the show a couple episodes. Too cheesy, too unimaginative, crappy sfx. Like I said, I'm convinced that "Terra Nova" will be more of the same. I didn't even like Stephen Lang the first time I saw him in that role, in "Avatar".

  • June 27, 2011, 1:59 p.m. CST

Better twist, it's like the Creation Museum

    by Domi'sInnerChild

With all the cavemen riding dinosaurs. And the series final has a flood where Noah tells the dinosaurs they're too big to get on the boat.

  • It's worked for Dr. Who for decades.

  • June 28, 2011, 4:07 a.m. CST

    Falling Skies CGI

    by JoeSixPack

Half of the CGI isn't the best I've ever seen, but the other half is better than any recent CGI in cinema (Green Lantern, Super 8 - I'm looking at you). The prisoner skidder looked incredible. I really love this series.

  • June 28, 2011, 3:27 p.m. CST

    Wait... what?
