Theatrical Trailer For CAPTAIN AMERICA Is Shield-Slingin' Perfection!

Published at:  Jun 23, 2011 7:41:33 PM CDT

Beaks here...

I've been sold on Joe Johnston's CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER since the Super Bowl teaser, but this new trailer makes me think this could be the best Marvel Studios movie yet. The moment with the grenade... love it.

See for yourself...

Now all that's left is to see the damn movie! If this isn't my favorite studio release of the summer, I'll be shocked.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER hits theaters July 22nd, 2011.

    by blood simple

I don't understand the love for this trailer. The song was terrible -- not at all what I want to hear in a Captain America trailer (or ever, really). The editing was pretty awful as well, and I don't like the cinematography at all. Everything looks all frosty and fake. It looks like one long, expensive yearbook photo. Joe Johnston is a studio whore director. I like The Rocketeer as much as the next guy, but the man can't direct himself out of a paper bag.

I'm Australian and am totally up for this film. I love the idea of a good man who is given this gift. He didn't jump on the grenade because "that's what American soldiers do", he did it coz he's a selfless man. I don't know the comics but I feel he should just represent what is good in people.... not what Americans think they are.

If I can say this ignoring all political / global aspects of that stuff, I wouldn't begrudge Australians making a movie suggesting Australian soldiers are heroic. Sure, it's a little propaganda feeling, but I have no problem with the pride any country can have in soldiers, especially with what they all did during World War II.

Not to mention, that's exactly the kind of thing that would be said back in WWII.

I also like how command at first thinks of him as a gimmick.

    by larryknowles

They don't trust him with any real missions and he has to prove his worth.

Also, the junior novelization had the pictures of his USO uniform - looks cheesy as hell (just like the original comic). Very creative way to highlight difference between comic book costumes and what works on film. All in the context of events that push the story forward. Excellent.

There's not a damn thing wrong with having an American hero and standing behind it. Hell, I think we need a little more patriotism in this country. Being proud of being who you are instead of frickin apologizing all the time. GI Joe, an international team... Bullshit! GI Joe used to be a REAL American hero, not he's got to get the blessing of the foreign box office dollar.

I'm not talking redneck, Coors Light, monster truck patriotism. I'm talking standing tall, doing what's right and watching out for your fellow man and knowing that's what it takes to be a real American.

Sorry, I just feel all red, white and blue inside right now.

    by legendaryspartanblood

  • I'm not in love with any comic book movies. They're all too flawed for me to absolutely love any of them. They always miss having a good central theme that carries through the entire film. Or their villain isn't strongly enough linked to the hero (thematically) for there to be a credible conflict. Iron Man came closest on the latter matter.

That said, I have a feeling Cap will surprise a lot of people. I wore a Cap shirt this last weekend, and at least half a dozen people told me they couldn't wait to see the movie. By comparison, none of these people had seen Thor.

Everything about this film looks great. Everything. I'm trying not to become too optimistic. However, this trailer is amazing.

    by misterfurly

the goddamn rockin guitar music! ugghh this is iron man style, put in a effing rock rock rockin soundtrack to make it seem cool when in actuality it makes it as un cool as possible.

daft punks orchestral tron score or the inception trailer music or some john willams rip off wouldve been leagues better.
this takes place in the 40's, "rock" in totally inappropriate for this, even if its just in the trailer.

sweeping intense music...sigh. ill have to edit it in on FCP and see how it looks then.

as everyone said marvel is really doin well with their adaptations...something like TEN characters and only ghost rider and daredevil and the punisher were super lame, with green lantern sucking methinks DC wont even bother.
maybe marvels silver age is just easier to adapt than golden age heroes, though technically cap is a golden age hero
but he is a normal guy and through a sci fi somewhat grounded origin is easier to adapt than say "wonder woman" DC's hero's have always just seemed a little lame..aquaman hawkman, booster gold, blue beetle etc etc.
i think jack and stan just created more cinematically believeable or for lack of a better word "cooler" heros.

though im totally amazed THOR worked and this looks like its going to as well, seeing as cap and thor seem like some of the more difficult characters to make work, whereas wolverine is a cinch.

i agree with you 100%, im an american so please excuse the idiotic people mentioning al qaeda and saying that american soldiers are like cap, theyre not.

cap is supposed to be an exceptional HUMAN, regardless of his country, yes he's captain AMERICA but he isnt a tool of the gov/corporations that greedily run this country, in the comics he's opposed the gov plenty.

TOOL sucks for this trailer, but not for the trenchcoat goatee wearing comic book crowd or hillbillys that get all patriotic.

99% of talkbackers make me embarrased to be american, in fact 99% of our population makes me embarrassed to be american, and 99% of the human species makes me embarrased to be human, so take that as you will.

Ah, it's the "giveaway" trailer... with crappy rock music

    by kevred

I'd already seen enough good stuff in the earlier trailers that I didn't need a bunch more 'cool moments' dumped into the last trailer. The problem with this thing is that, even though it's cool, we now have another 10 or so "react" moments in the film that we've already seen, so the jokes, one-liners, surprise moments, etc., shown here will now be spoiled.

Yes, the grenade moment is cool. No, I didn't need to see it now, in the last trailer before the film is out, because now I'll have already seen it when I see it.

The earlier trailers worked because they set up the premise and then gave you fleeting action shots of the midsts of many action scenes. This one, however, dumps a lot of critical moments from several scenes into our laps, leaving us no choice but to have a dozen new specific deja vu moments in the theater.

Plus, the music is garbage. I know a lot of people here like Tool, but to me it's just tired, plodding, lukewarm King Crimson leftovers. And also just about the least appropriate music imaginable for a 1940s Cap film. When did people stop associating films with orchestral music? Sheesh. Save the Tool for, say, a Gambit film - overrated, out of date, never as cool as originally believed. A good match.

    But the film looks great.

    by kevred

Looks like a lot of fun and made with a lot of loving care. About the only thing that could spoil it is if they let the CG dictate the scale of the film, and the characters all end up drowning in a hazy mush of video-game graphics which leave no impact.

    by slaughterstorm

the way they chopped up the song for the trailer was a disgrace. couldn't they have just muted the lyrics a little instead of completely ruin the chord progression?? I can't be the only one who was frustrated by this. One of the best parts about Tool is the timing of the songs. the suspense before the breakdown. you can't just go, "METAL METAL METAL METAL!!!" without rhyme or reason. I hope this trailer will get people into the music more, but I feel that it will instead further alienate listeners who already dislike the genre.

    Anyway the trailer is okay

    by johnathankana

as usual, they reveal way too much. whats crazy is thats actually their plan. they WANT to give u a mini movie in 2 minutes, telling u all the big moments up til the end...when u already know the end. nothing is left up to mystery anymore because too much money is at stake.

but yea, as a movie, it doesnt look bad. Nothing really stands out either. Its a basic movie with basic movie tricks. Very fucking standard, nothing out of the ordinary, all the shots are consistent with everything one would expect. The grenade scene is a nice touch, but its probably the most humane thing about the entire movie.

Back in the day the studio would have let us experience that in the theater. Like imagine seeing a trailer for Raiders and seeing Indy shoot the swordsman. That would have NEVER happened. So why ruin potentially one of the biggest, best moments in the film with putting it in the trailer like that? These studios are so fucking scared not enough people will see their shit that they sabotage it. So sad.

Nothing wrong with that headline. Some act like Cap is about to massacre foreign hordes to protect the american master race. He's fighting nazis thanks to a German scientist with the help of an English lady (and if there's a Cap 2, he will probably have some wacky adventures with the French resistance.) There's nothing wrong with a character called Captain America, representing America.

    Peep the original Raiders trailer

    by johnathankana

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6b5RoI-jeGI

For starters, its not chronological. They use dialogue scenes from all over, and action scenes from all over. They use voice overs to plug the holes that they dont want us to see. I mean shit, we dont even know that Belloc is bad here. We see one bad guy really. And the scene with the giant boulder from the beginning of the movie shows up at the end of the trailer, in a really quick shot.

So when u go to see the movie, u have no idea where anything is gonna happen. You just know it sounds cool and looks cool, and now u are in for some cool shit.

nowadays for some reason we gotta know everything before watching something. what in the fuck kind of experience is that?

    by johnnyrandom

..."I used to love Tool until I grew out of that kind of music."

When you say "grew out of", of course you mean "became dull and uninteresting". That's what people do. They pretend to "get" and enjoy things when they're young, to "fit in" and then as soon as they reach a certain age, their true, dull persona kicks in. This is what thay class as "growing up".

Pretentious douche trying to make himself feel better about being dull as dishwater.

And I'm not sticking up for Tool in particular, before you start trying to have a go at my tastes. Just your lame attitude to anything you don't like.

...please, NEVER take into consideration the majority of the Talkbackers in this forum when making decisions for our country.

Yes, exploiting their obvious favoritism for "America" might get you Box Office numbers, but, it should not determine actual foreign diplomacy.

As for you "good-old boys" screaming "AMERICA: FUCK YEAH!" (completely missing the ironic nature of the song): YOU have done nothing for "your" country. All you've done is religiously watch 24 and THE SHIELD and masturbate to one of the female reporters on Fox News. YOU have NOT sacrificed anything for "your" country. YOU have merely been a consumer and worker. YOU do NOT "love" your country. YOU love how good it feels following the mob and not questioning anything. YOU don't even know the actual history of "your" country. YOU did not grow up in the "Bronx". YOU do not respect and honor "your" military. YOU love the self-gratifying feeling you get by romanticizing "the military". YOU are a good dog.

My interest for this film has gone down two-fold after this blatent marketing campaign to get the DAYS OF THUNDER crowd.

And that's that pirate sequel and that Fast sequel (that last one makes me wonder about human kind). So let's just make sequels from now on.

Every single person on this board would benefit from momentarily shutting down their web browser, loading up Tool's "lateralus" album, hitting play and just quietly listen for about 75 minutes. You have to give credit to the greats. The 60's/70's had Pink Floyd. We have Tool.

Also, despite having severely chopped up the song, i thought it actually really worked for the trailer. It won't be in the movie, but I like it for the trailer.

That's cool. You don't have to like the music, but as a Tool fan and for the sake of not sounding like a "Tool fan" (some of you know what I mean), if you knew what the song was about, you'd realize it's perfect for this trailer.

That was a nice surprise, I'm still very curious to see how this is going to do at the B.O. though, considering it doesn't have all the crazy fantastical elements that other comic book movies have. But this was a great trailer and really manages to get you hyped up. But I do have one question- Since when the fuck did killing nazis become a no-no? Awesome!

    by rapscallion86

Even more excited than I already was! Also, anyone else think that Red Skull looks remarkable? This trailer only gives us one new shot, but its given me proof that they took his comic design and didnt change it to fulfill the studios requirement to not fuck with the material in an attempt to make more money. Reminds me of how great Doc Ock was in Spidey 2.

Quick rant: Fuck the different studios owning Marvel properties and having no balls until now (to a degree). Let X-men go into cosmic territory. Let Spidey team with the Avengers. So much potential to create something truly mind blowing. I think they are finally heading in the right direction. They took the chance on Thor which was good, and Avengers is on the horizon. Cap is looking awesome and just seeing the shots of Red Skull looking like Red Skull gives me hope! Now lets get rid of Fox so X-men can become what it should. Same with Spidey! The potential for the whole Marvel universe to finally be portayed is growing, but fucking studio rights and Hollywood bullshit holds it back. Damn shame.

    by royston lodge

I think that the transformation from puny weakling to Super-Soldier was always the most magical thing about Captain America, and I love that they seem to have nailed it in this flick.

It's why they like to flashback to his origin so often in the comics. As a modern hero, he's pretty bland and 2-dimensional. He doesn't have an interesting ongoing personality, like Spiderman or Wolvie.

It's Cap's origin story that gets the kids hooked, so the comics have to remind readers about it ever so often.

    It's a shame...

    by blackwood

...that the end of this movie is probably going to be Captain America frozen in something, to be thawed out in the modern day for AVENGERS. Maybe it'll do a *ten years later* thing so there's space for more period-specific adventures.

I loved THOR, but I have a consistent boner for Norse mythology, and Chris Hemsworth. It was fun. I skipped both FIRST CLASS and GREEN LANTERN. Partly because I don't care (about GL), and also with so many superhero films coming out I definitely have genre fatigue. But CAPTAIN AMERICA, I'm in. Chris Evans is dead handsome. And importantly, it doesn't feel like a 'superhero' film, not in the same way the others do. It feels like an adventure film. It feels a bit Indiana Jones, Tool notwithstanding, and I totally dig that vibe.

Looking forward to it. I've been picky this summer, but CAPTAIN AMERICA has always been top of my list.

    And yet.....

    by arcangel2020

Looking forward to seeing Captain America: First Avenger in the theaters soon.
Although I was never really a Capt America "fanboy" (I followed Spiderman, X-men, The Hulk, Silver Surfer and occasionally Fantastic Four)....just like I wasn't a follower of The Green Lantern or even Ironman....what I am interested in is how this kicks off the whole Avengers movement and if this is done really well then there is only even more high hopes that when the Avengers assemble next summer? We are going to have a really kick-ass film on our hands to truely enjoy and revel in!
What I find really hilarious about a lot of the negative posts here as well as on the other Superhero films that have in the past been in production or are currently being filmed? Is how so many people base their "opinions" on how a certain film is going to look or base their criticism on how certain costumes or sets look in photos that are merely THAT....photos taken from a camera, not from an actual still of films that has been developed and the special effects added to it (Case in point, all the negativity when it came to the recent release of "Thor"....a lot of naysayers said "ohhhh the film looks like shit!", or "Anthony Hopkins looks terrible as Odin" or "the film looks like it's going to suck!")....blah, blah, fucking BLAH!
Guess what? "Thor" was pretty damn good and I even liked "The Green Lantern" (Seems like I am not the only one either)
All the nerdy little so-called "Fanboy Nerds" with all their negative comments who haven't even seen the film since it hasn't been released yet? Get a life, logoff from your silly little computers, actually GO OUTSIDE for a change and why don't you actually wait until "Captain America" (as well as "Transformers 3" and "Cowboys & Aliens") has been released and you have spent your allowance money to go see it in the theater....then and only then will your negativity and spite and nasty commments hold any validity as far as I am concerned

    by hipshot

Wrong with a country being proud of itself. Any more than schools shouldn't have "fight songs" or fans shouldn't love their sports teams. Any healthy ego thinks the world revolves around it. True, that's not "evolved"--but countries aren't evolved, although some people are. Every group of people in the world has a mythology that says "God made us first and loves us best." Assholes have convinced too many Americans they don't have the same right to be proud everyone else has--as if the fact that we were/are godawful powerful denies us the right to be like everyone else in this regard. This is pretty much the same as Feminists convincing too many wussy men they should be ashamed of being men. Fuck that. England has the right to be proud of England, Japan of Japan, Saudi Arabia of Saudi Arabia, Kenya of Kenya, Mexico of Mexico...and Americans can fucking well be proud of America, and fuck anyone who says otherwise. I couldn't agree more. You summed it up quite nicely.

It really parallels APOCALYPSE NOW and LORD OF THE FLIES in that sense.

I would also love to discuss with you the idea that NIGHT OF THE LEPUS is a razor-sharp dissection of gender stereotypes in a male-centric world as seen through the eyes of giant bunnies who are only looking to silflay in a world full of the enemies that are now their prey.

At least from the trailer, this is someone I could see fighting next to Downey's Iron Man. Still finding it a bit tough to imagine Thor standing next to the two of them (and I did like that film). But Iron Man and Cap seem to fit.

Seriously, I don't care how corny you personally think it is. This sort of fearless heroism is how the Green Lantern should have been portrayed like. It should have been the fearless guy who learns to tame, master and unleash the force of his will. Not the guy who quits after minimal training, not the guy who learns to stop being a quitter.

    As a film...as a country...

    by sithtastic

The movie will be fine. Cap is a hero from a bygone era and contrary to what you may think he represents the "spirit" or ideal of the country.

While I have never shared and will never share the Marxist interpretation of the United States (regarding corporations and the "rich") I can certainly understand that the 1940s were a different time for us and we should not be ashamed that Stan Lee and Marvel were trying to motivate people's patriotism in that time.

Anyone with any more than just a passing experience with Cap should know he has been mired in this sort of "man out of time without any contemporary relevancy" schtick since at least the 1960's, when Vietnam tried our very souls and tore the country apart, domestically and don't even get me started on the almost embarrassingly bad interpretations of him from 2001 onward. So a film set during the Second World War should really be a no brainer by comparison as to mood.

Including opposing the government when it is wrong is the most American thing about him. Nothing is more American than telling your own government that it is full of shit and putting a boot in its ass when it won't listen. Just because we've turned into a nation of simpering greedy self-indulgent pussies doesn't change that fact. It just means that most Americans aren't acting like Americans these days.

Why do you think Blue Bloods does so well in those markets?
It's a decent show, writings a bit weak but the ideal is there that people the world over admire.
    Honesty.
    Integrity.
    Family.
    Honour.
    That's what Steve Rogers represents.
To NOT call him Captain America overseas is to disregard the positive power of that symbol.

I think they're setting the wrong mood.

    by yelsaeb

Or worse, they're setting the right mood. That's not how a Captain America movie should be. It should be more Raiders of the Lost Ark than Iron Man. I fear the movie will be a big modern romp filled with CGI and comic relief and a hip and cool modern score like Thor or Iron Man when it should be a pulpy adventure flick like the Rocketeer or Indiana Jones with a classic John Williams score, so when the Avengers comes around and Cap is in modern day he looks completely out of place in a way that's more than setting, but also mood and feel. I fear they've already messed it up when it comes to tone. But I could be wrong. I hope I'm wrong, but I'm good at geussing this kind of thing. I knew X-Men:First Class was going to rock from day one, and I knew Green Lantern was going to suck from day one. I've been thinking this'll suck since Johnston was announced as director. I just don't trust the guy.

That scene has been used in countless war films. I'm not thrilled by the trailer. Joe Johnson has never made a great film in 20+ years of directing. The Rocketeer had moments or greatness but very little action. If Speilberg made this movie I would be in line tomorrow. The sets look 90% soundstage to me. That sucks as well. I say X-Men:FC for the win this summer.

william_faulkner - you are proud of being white?

    by antonphd

being proud to be an oppressed and hated minority is about having the courage to stand up for yourself and refuse to embrace the hate.

being proud of being white in america just makes you a douche bag. it's like being proud to be born rich.

pride in something you don't have to struggle for isn't pride it's vanity.

beautiful people who love themselves for their beauty are vain.

athletes who sacrifice to work hard for countless hours earn pride in the body they forge.

i am white. i am not proud to be white. i never had to work to be white. what would i have to be proud for? nothing.

but i am proud to be a foster kid who overcame my early struggles in life to accomplish what i determined for myself that i would accomplish. i develop video games. art, science and fun all mixed together. i am finishing up a game and i am damn fucking proud of the work i have done. i work from the comfort of my home which can be anywhere in the world. i found an amazing woman to share life with and i am damn proud of myself for that. and i'm proud of her for everything she has accomplished.

you probably have a lot to be proud of in your life, but unless you are struggling to overcome oppression for being white then being proud of being white is just vanity.

I assume the sequel will be called Captain America: Man out of Time

    by whatevillurks

  • Cowboys & Aliens is coming only a week later, and the cash strapped movie going masses will probably decide to wait and see the reviews for both films. Add to that will be the fact that Cowboys & Aliens can boast "by the director of Iron Man" in the trailers and on the posters.

If Cowboys & Aliens gets stellar reviews, or hell, even a pass from the critics, then people will flock to that one. I think that Captain America will possibly get beaten up by critics as they seem to have superhero movie fatigue at this point, and they just might have hostile feelings towards more superhero flicks due to this summer movie season already having three big superhero films before Cap. Cowboys & Aliens will probably appeal to a lot of the middle aged and older critics, as they might have grown up with a lot of westerns and probably played Cowboys and Indians when they were kids.

Then there is going to be the mixed feelings about Captain America being an overly jingoistic film that falsely inflates American ideals. The critics might just have a field day ranting about this film.

Also, Cowboys & Aliens will win points for being "original", or at least original in the sense that it will be perceived as a fun twist on the old Cowboys & Indians concept. It is also not an old superhero character being given and origin story. Audiences and critics just may see Captain America as a formulaic superhero film ("been there, done that"), while Cowboys & Aliens will seem somewhat fresh.

Captain America will also be competing for people's attention with Transformers 3, which will be released at the end of June and will take up theater space into July as well. Those films seem to make money regardless of what the critics say.

It sucks, because I think Captain America looks like a ton of fun and a superhero film in the spirit of The Rocketeer or Raiders of the Lost Ark. Plus, I love these types of retro sci-fi/fantasy adventure films set in the 30's and 40's, but I just don't see Captain America making enough to warrant a sequel, that is if the film even makes a profit at all.

As to the legality of occupying the lands? We've done our best to make sure we do not count the dead. ANd our rules for counting the dead are ridiculous. For instance, if someone is shot from the back and not the front, it is not counted.

The reality is, its almost certain we killed far more than a million. We've also left depleted uranium all over country, and basically everyone in Iraq gets cancer now. Dude, we pillaged the country of EVERYTHING of value, we stole artifacts and destroyed the rest. We destroyed that country. The true cost is probably 2-3 million people in JUST Iraq. I'm sorry but we're not the good guys at all. And most of the word knows it.

    by conspiracy

Half my post didn't fucking post! God Damn it....Hire some fucking professionals to code this bitch Harold.

Anyway...I just do not like when movies set in a fictional universe use music grounded in the "now". It does nothing to add to the film, and distracts from the visuals as you are immediately pulled out of the film by it. If they wanted Heavy guitar riffs, which for a film set in the 1940's I can't understand why" then do an original piece. Fucks sake...it's Los Angeles, go down to Musicians Institute and part time fry cook taking classes there would be happy to whip something up for the price of an ounce of decent herb.

Myself...I think it would have been a much better trailer with period music, or original orchestration. But with the TOOL riff...it takes an otherwise well crafted trailer and turns it into another teen pandering explosion fest that Bay would be proud of.

Nothing wrong with TOOL...Everything right with the trailer...they just do not belong together. And for the record I hated the use of AC/DC in Iron Man 2...Sabbath in IM1 was ok..it was on fadeout.

Or can you really not answer simple questions? If you've ever been to this site before, you'd know I'm not a troll. The Avengers movie isn't even out yet, which is a valid reason in wanting to know why its obvious it would not fit in with X-Men continuity. I haven't seen First Class yet, and I'd like to hear your explanation.

Oh, jesus christ. Fine, I'll explain it to the fucking retard.

    by nico_laos

You do realize that the Avengers movie will be part of a shared universe, right? You do realize that both Iron Man movies, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and Captain America all involve crossover characters, right? You do realize that the central figures of all these films make up the Avengers, right?

Well, then if you understand all of that ... then you should have no problem figuring out that when I say 'Avengers movies', I'm obviously referring to the other films involving these same characters, in the same shared universe.

As for how this fits in with the X-Men ... it doesn't take a genius to realize that the whole 'mutant hysteria' seen in the X-Men films seem to be oddly absent from any of the movies involving Avengers characters, is it should be.

    This is obvious.

    Now, kindly fuck off.

Its less that they couldnt fit into eachothers continuity and more that, since Fox has the rights to X-Men and Marvel has the rights to Cap and the rest of the Avengers, the chance of a cameo from either franchise in the other's series is quite slim..

I am aware of that. There is no chance for a cross-over due to the different studios owning rights to different characters. I'm just curious why its obvious the two franchises don't fit into each others' continuity.

    Reply to Talkback

  • The only reason mutant hysteria is highlighted in the X-films is because- SURPRISE!- those films are about mutants.

I don't see constant mutant hysteria represented in other Marvel titles. Sometimes its just in there as an Easter Egg, like someone flipping channels and going past a news story. Throwing something like that into the Avengers films wouldn't be out of the question and it wouldn't infringe on the Fox-owned X-characters either.

I think its unlikely any of this will happen, but again, its not OBVIOUS that it won't.

    by d.vader

This is the first time its happened to me.

I'll keep the rehash quick and to the point.

FOX doesn't own the rights to the word "mutant". Its entirely possible The Avengers movie can have a character say he believes Thor to be a deluded mutant rather than a Norse God (just like in the comics). Its possible, improbable but not impossible, and therefore it certainly doesn't jive with your assertion that its OBVIOUS that the two movies don't exist in the same continuity.

You may as well claim its obvious the X-Men can't exist in Captain America's world bc not a single X-Men mentions Cap when discussing history in the X-films.

    by d.vader

You know what? You're right. The X-Men can't possibly exist in the same world as the Avengers simply because mutants are never mentioned in the other characters' films.

THAT'S your big piece of evidence, the end of the argument.

    And its retarded.

But you know what, that kind of logic is right! For example, Superman could obviously *never* exist in the same continuity as Christopher Nolan's Batman because you NEVER hear anyone talk about that super-powered guy in Metropolis!

Stick to the topic at hand if you can keep up. If not, and if you realize that A) your first argument was entirely too weak and B) you've been beaten, then continue to fall back on tired middle school insults.

Beaten at what? You asked a ridiculous question and I gave you a response worthy of it. Do you think if I went up to John Favreau or Kenneth Branagh and started talking about the 'Avengers movies' that they would say, 'There aren't any Anvengers movies yet. What are talking about? No one calls these franchises that!'

Haha. You're right. I'm sure no one would understand.

And as far as your Batman and Superman point goes ... either you haven't seen Nolan's films, or you really are 12 years old.

LOL ... Yes, d, I'm weak. I concede. Your unparalleled powers of reason have proven that all superhero movies exist in the same continuity. But hey ... why stop there? Batman never talks about Luke Sywalker, right? But that doesn't mean there aren't jedi running around. Just think of the possibilities! Iron Man teams up with Gandalf to rescue Han Solo from Agent Smith! Why hasn't anyone made this movie yet?! According to d. vader, it's obvious they belong in the same shared universe!

BTW ... nice work on writing *its retarded*. Oh, the irony. It's right up there with *your stupid*.

    Shared universe.

    by subtitles_off

I haven't read all the posts in this thread, and I'm reluctant to step into anything going on between Talkbackers.

I'm just confused as all cacophony about this supposed great desire on the part of a hungering public for this "shared universe" nonsense, represented by this predicted domination of all things holy by Marvel Comic Book movies.

Lettuce see...previous examples of "shared universe" movies...

FRANKENSTEIN MEETS THE WOLF-MAN, HOUSE OF DRACULA, ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN. OK, those were fun movies. They kinda worked. Don't tell me, though, those are the first titles that come to your mind when people ask you about the great horror films.

Um, AVP, FREDDY VS. JASON? I might be forgetting something, but the contemporary examples of the "shared universe" concept really suck.

I just don't see much of a yearning for it beyond a wee corner of the internet. And, yeah, I realize everyone here expects THE AVENGERS to set the world on fire. Personally, I'll be shocked if it makes THOR money. And, they'll probably have found a way to add three bucks to the ticket price by then.

  • It's just frustrating sometimes being a tool fan lol you DO feel like you're on to something special, because the uninitiated is often just callous and ignorant.
