I didn’t make The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day FOR YOU! It carries the Charles Atlas seal of approval!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Today is Jaws’ birthday, and the big reason I got that crazy awesome opportunity to chew the fat with Steven Spielberg, but Jaws has been done to death over the last few weeks, so I decided to go with “A different set of Jaws!”
Of course, that was the tagline on the iconic red lips movie poster for The Rocky Horror Picture Show, another one of my favorite movies. Tim Curry on his game is unlike any other actor to have ever worked in show business. Be it Rocky Horror or Legend or Clue… when he’s firing on all cylinders he’s magnetic. His Frank-N-Furter is amazing to watch on the screen. As vulnerable as you’d imagine Curry would be up in front of millions wearing little but a glitter-vest, a nut-hugging speedo and black fishnets none of that shows as he swaggers through the movie, belting out songs with enough gusto to make Pavarotti proclaim “I said, goddamn!”
So, this one’s for you, Mr. Curry. You rock!

If you have a behind the scenes shot you’d like to submit to this column, you can email me at quint@aintitcool.com.
Tomorrow’s behind the scenes pic is going to steal your son and freak your shit out.

Pity he never had a great role since...

Plus, I love dressing as Riff Raff for Halloween.

My bad, wrong post.

I love Tim Curry but he hardly did anything in LEGEND and they gave him that stupid, painfully expository opening monologue
by golden tribw
I don't think that movie represented his skill well, but it's been a few years. I also have to say I hate RHPS, but I don't mind Tim Curry IN it.
-
Key College Park near U of MD, and the Key in Georgetown - the one in Georgetown was always more hardcore (there you'd get a proper motorcycle in the aisles at Eddie's entrance), College Park was still pretty rocking though. There's a great video on youtube of very young Michael Stipe at a show in GA, he was a Rocky Knocker too.. Really sorry I never got to see him in Spamalot, I bet that was great. He's on heavy rotation around here a lot, if just for Clue, Annie, and RHPS.

Even though I was a teenager in the seventies, I never saw it. Have no interest in ever seeing it.

Don't care.

I never get tired of watching this one several times every Halloween.

Legend and Clue--fucking classics on both sides of the spectrum. The man could do it all.

Tim Curry's best roles: "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Legend", "Stephen King's IT" and "Clue"...

...everything else he did was just garbage. Wish he would get back to good movies again.

How can you not love this movie - it's a sci-fi, monster movie tribute and Curry was as explosive as Freddie Mercury in it.
by Professor_Monster
I'm a wild and an unchained thing - I'm a bee with a deadly sting
-
But he would still be known as Dr. Frank-N-Furter. And that's just the way it should be.
-
BANG
-
quelle surprise! (I know he doesn't say it, but I agree, underrated film)

I'M SHOUTING I'M SHOUTING I'M--

I've been a fan of Oscar since day one. And Curry's Dr. Poole (Dr. Poole! Dr. Pool?... Hellooooo!) was excellent.
-
Quint, if you can dig up something from SHOCK TREATMENT I would love you forever.

I guess I figured out why I hate this movie, I hated Flamboyant Freddie Mercury too.
-
also, it's easily the gayest move ever made.

Really? No love for Curry's scenery devouring turn in Congo?!?

More Oscar Love & Re: RHPS is one of the worst things ive...
by ArcherNX01
Oscar is indeed truly fantastic. I placed it as one of my 'dream' BNAT movies in this past application. And to melgibsoncalledmethenword: "it's easily the gayest move ever made." And??? When O'Brien wrote it, sexual liberation was in full swing (so to speak). So you're saying movies should never reflect the times they were made? I dub thy statement 'dumb & homophobic'.

Ahhh Tim Curry one of fav actors in the 80's..I know he has done a lot of work since but cant remember the last time I personally seen any of it.
by MRJONZ72
Esp a lot of voice over work.
-
June 20, 2011, 11:26 p.m. CST
I would had loved to seen him as the Joker in Batman89..it was always my understanding he was Tim Burtons 2nd choice.(not necessarily WB's)
by MRJONZ72
And I would still like to hear his voice work as the Joker in the animated series..I remember reading a magazine way back when, when they announced his voice casting for B:TAS and I was like yes..but of course he did a few episodes before getting replaced by Mark Hamill...and Mark re did the episodes that TC had completed. Anyway the audio still has to be out there somewhere.. Oh and no offense to Jack and Mark as I liked them both.

1985 - AGREED. You bring a lot of happiness to AICN. Keep Choppin!

Tim Curry starred in one of my favorite episodes of Tales from the Crypt: Death of Some Salesman
by Jesiah
He plays the husband, wife, and daughter of a hillbilly looking family. Way more entertaining than the Klumps. It's a reversal of the farmer not wanting anyone to touch his daughter. They know their daughter is ugly, so every sales person that comes their way they trick into having sex with their daughter to make her feel better or something like that. I also recently found out he was one of the contenders for Mark Hamill's Joker role on Batman TAS. And even though it was a short role, I remember him as Taurus Bullba, the first villain and arguably the most "serious" that Darkwing Duck faced in his series.
-
Heath Ledger's Joker is the most mesmerizing and entertaining psychotic clown, but Tim Curry's Pennywise is the most terrifying. Even if he was in fact a big spider.
-
The Shadow-1994 with John Lone (suavely badass) Penelope Ann Miller (willowy hot) Alec Baldwin (skinnier than now) Ian Mckellen (as a bentminded professor) Jonathan Winters (dryly funny) Peter Boyle (TAXI DRIVER) Sab Shimono ("Say, that's catchy") James Hong ("indeed!!!") and a score by Jerry Goldsmith (legendary evocator)
-
im hungry for more CURRY
-
...his maddeningly bizarre turn as The Grand Wizard in "The Worst Witch". British children's shows from the 80s would fuck kids up nowadays.
-

This movie is awful, and the "experience" built around it is too.
by Ironhelix
Never understood what the fucking point was. Sadly, all the punk rock chicks I banged in my youth were fucking addicted to going to this asinine bullshit.
-
...and that mistake being not nearly enough Rocky Horror pics being posted in this column. I forgive him though.
-
Never a more perfect piece of casting than Tim Curry as Frank in Rocky Horror. He owns it. He fucking owns it.
-
And to add to the Oscar love dogpile, I actually saw Oscar in its theatrical release. Which is a phrase that I imagine also describes a Tim Curry orgasm - "theatrical release". Also, Rocky Horror is a classic, proven by the fact that people still watch it 35 years later. And nobody is better than Freddie Mercury, you homophobic fuckers. Suck on it.
-
I didn't see SHOCK TREATMENT until well after Quint covered it, so yeah. Disappointing, but seeing your name made up for it. Just watched STRANGE DAYS for the first time a few days ago. Awesome, unappreciated shit.

Can someone constructively criticize RHPS besides acting like a baby rejecting vegatables? You geeks are too boxed in as far as taste goes
by Citizin_insane
-
Anyone who can't find joy while watching RHPS lives a sad life indeed.
-
ROCKY HORROR is just.... wow. Unique. Isn't that what film fans want to see - something they haven't before (or since)? A haunted house rock opera packed with incredible music and electric performances. Plus Susan Sarandon in her heyday having her boobs squeezed. The dojo is heterosexual and the dojo proclaims it a classic. It's far too good a film just for the gays!!!!!
-
Is the fucking fans. Went to a midnight showing of it once and will never go back. This is a great fucking movie, but Rocky Horror fans mock it, not celebrate it. The dialogue is not cheesy, it's actually sharp as hell, and I've no interest in hearing some fat fuck in a Donnie Darko hoodie shouting un-funny quips at the screen while I'm trying to savor all the innuendo and general debauchery. Just get the Blu-ray, stay in on a Saturday night, and give yourself over to absolute pleasure. This notion that Rocky Horror is camp is fucking bullshit. This movie knows exactly what it's doing. And the music's amazing.
-
And see what's on the slab.... Not to mention it made the word Anticipation sexy!
-
And see what's on the slab.... Not to mention it made the word Anticipation sexy!
-
Is that they're usually pretty crazy. The theater was handing out RHPS 'How To' pamphlets for a week before the screening, and one of its suggestions was to bring condoms, "because you never know." This was years ago, in high school, and my sweet virginal girlfriend had no interest in Rocky Horror till I read her that. So while the fucking crowd ruined the movie for me, I have to admit it awakened something wonderful in the old girlfriend, and I enjoyed my first experience with public intimacy.

Then again, she also ended up cheating on me that year, but she was always kind of a cunt.

Notice how most of the disparaging comments begin with...
by irishraidersfan
I just don't understand how...
-
If it has a message, it's 'Don't dream it - be it'. Meaning, whatever floats your boat is cool. With that said, the strongest element of it is how it builds sympathy for Frank. He's a cold blooded killer - a stone cold lunatic. But at the end, despite not really having gone through any redemptive arc, you feel an immense sympathy for him (specifically, during 'I'm coming home'). It's an awesome film, and the stage show is awesome too (although it's a little different, a bit more pacey). And yes, Sarandon was 10/10.
-
They really went to town, more like across the world, to please RH fans.

Hey! It's ENRICO PALAZZO!
-
There are some really hilarious lines in this movie, but I'm sure that's "a very tender subject". More love for Oscar here. That movie is Stallone's best comedy. The deadpan humor is so perfect, and Curry is simply amazing. No one mentioned it here, but he does have one of the best voices for a pirate. He really owned it in Muppet Treasure Island. And then there was his stint in Fox's Peter Pan and the Pirates series from the early 90s. He won a daytime Emmy for his Captain James T. Hook. He makes a great pirate!
-
Don't forget his turn in the adaptation of Terry Pratchett's "The Colour of Magic" as the villain Headmaster. He stole the screen when he was on. And that's saying a lot when Sean Astin, Jeremy Irons and Christopher Lee (or his voice) are also in your film.

That is one clever and entertaining movie that is sadly overlooked. As for Rocky Horror, I ended up loving it after watching it about 7 times, you gotta celebrate the crazyness of it all. Also, the most insane night of my life happened when I was watching this film.

At a packed midnight show in the mid-1980s. All the "fun" in the audience seemed forced to me - it was like theatrical square-dancing. I've never bothered to watch it again...

It needs an audience.
