What Original Film Will Pixar Release In 2013?
Nordling here.
We know BRAVE and MONSTERS UNIVERSITY are coming, but what's next on Pixar's plate? Well, Pixar announced today that their next film, an untitled, original project, which won't be a sequel or prequel, will be released on November 27, 2013. No other indication of what kind of film it is at all from them.
Pete Docter is working on a project at this time, with screenwriter Michael Arndt. Could this be that project? Only time will tell. Pixar's playing it close to the vest with this one. We'll probably learn more later this year, either at ComicCon or some other event. Either way, Pixar-heads, make note the date - November 27, 2013.
Nordling, out.

Yeah this is a non news article, but anytime Docter is mentioned I perk up. Kitty! Squirrel!
-
So what was the point of this piece again?
-
in fact empire magazine published it in major feature on pixar sometime ago as part of pixars upcoming slate..
-
Such is Pixar's brilliance and track record, that just the thought of another 'original' from them in over two years still gets me excited. I was worried that they were kind of shutting down slowly but surely - this is great news.
-
Nuff said.
-
Got a name for that fart yet, or is it still untitled? Let me guess: Yoghurt.

... no word at all on what it is. More later ... maybe.

it will be pixars first ever live action movie, about san francisco earthquake. the article is from 2008. and brad bird has signed on to direct..... http://www.mania.com/pixars-brad-bird-takes-1906-earthquake_article_57715.html

I love them as much as anyone else, although in a different way (gimme Nemo over Incredibles anyday), but some of you see them as if they´re beyond good and evil. C'mon, they´re just a bunch of guys and their shit stink too. yep, it does.
-
Instead of whole articles. You know when you have a pretty archaic website format when somebody as cyberignorant as me notices it.
-
More like "gimmicky." You wanna know BRAVE's gimmick? It's Pixar's first picture with a girl in the lead. It's a direct attempt to answer criticisms that they're boy-centric. This new, "original" film will probably be the first Pixar film to feature a homosexual in the lead. Oh wait, they already did that in the rat movie.
-
Several characters go somewhere together. And old people are sad.

giving us a place to Talkback. Yeah, they have some newsy news and (frequently) great interviews and (massa) reviews, but really, it's about fans fanning on fandom. "Jackass" Ryan Dunn dead in alcohol and speed induced car crash
by iceman199
-
It was the project that was shelved after concerns that it would be too overt in its environmental ideology. "Man" was reportedly the "villain" of the film. I mean, do we REALLY need yet another Pixar/Disney film that preaches LIBERALISM to children? Word on the street is that CARS 2's major "villain" is "big oil" and the good guys are trying to promote "alternative energy sources." No, really. If there was ANY reason to watch CARS 2 -- it went away with a film about cars where the villain is the very energy sources that fuel almost ALL vehicles and help create the very film that the propaganda is made upon.
-
There is nothing wrong with teaching social responsibility. But a film goes too far when it preaches to children that a corporation OWNED BY ANYONE WHO BUYS A SHARE and employs MILLIONS of Americans is actually some mindless, faceless system of "evil."
-
That's foolish talk. Everybody is unoriginal. But Pixar always presents all of their unoriginal ideas in the freshest ways possible. A Bug's Life was The Three Amigos. Cars was Doc Hollywood. Even Toy Story 3 was Toy Story 2. But you don't realize that until after you've watched it because they make it seem so fresh and new. Nobody else does that in animation. Kung Fu Panda 2 was a lot of fun, but no more than pointing out all the new "Jack Sparrow" parts of the Pirates of the Carribean ride. Not to say it's not a fun ride, but we Southern Californians know the ride by heart - to the point that we get excited when we see something new. Pixar never does that. At first thought, I'm not thrilled about the upcoming Cars 2, but then I remember that it's Pixar. If anyone can bring something fresh to a mediocre flick, it's them.

LIBERALISM to children?
-
Let me try without the quotes... ccchhhrrriiisssm: I know I don't want my kid exposed to ideas like treating the environment, animals, and other human beings with respect. I mean, what would Jesus do?!!? He sure wouldn't be teaching a liberal philosophy that's for sure!!!
-
I asked that first...and the answer is NO.
-
No, let's teach them conservatism - the great ideology that was (and still is "secretly") against black people, women, hispanics, gays, and believes in guns and war and corporations and pollution and no taxes over helping poor people or free medical attention. Yeah, that makes a great philosophy for the kids. Right-Wing dickheads are destroying this country enough, thank god they can't make an entertaining movie for shit. Try to get a kid to sit through ATLAS SHRUGGED. LOL. Hell, anybody...
-
There is a difference with teaching MORAL RESPONSIBILITY (like not harming the environment as much as possible) and protecting animals from extinction... ...and a certain LIBERAL IDEOLOGY that indoctrinates children to think that "big oil" is a villain. That is PURE PROPAGANDA.
-
I didn't say that I want Pixar to teach Conservatism OR Liberalism. It isn't the responsibility of an animation studio to PREACH a particular ideology. Again, there is a hell of a lot of difference between teaching children to take care of the environment...and teaching them that oil companies are "evil" and motivated by "greed." That is just PROPAGANDA espoused by the Far Left who literally want the benefits of oil but want more of their money to spend on projects that liberal politicians think is best.
-
BTW, it is the 18% of this nation that are LIBERAL DICK HEADS who try to loudly push their views on the other 82% of us (Moderates and Conservatives) that are destroying this country. Of course, you can't tell this because you are also a DICK HEAD. Like crazy people, Dick Heads can't tell that they are Dick Heads and surrounded by other Dick Heads.
-
And conservatives have power on Wall Street. It evens out.
-
At least I know Dickhead is one word. And what makes Liberals dickheads? Again, historically caring about the rights of women, minorities, homosexuals, immigrants, poor people, those who are disenfranchised or who have had their rights abused? That's the Liberal ideology. Along with believing that government should help it's people and not leave them to drown in New Orleans... Tell me what's wrong with that, or just admit that you have no idea what you're talking about.
-
...It isn't the responsibility of an animation studio to PREACH a particular ideology.... It's their movie, they can preach whatever they want. If you have a red-neck conservative agenda you want spread to kids, start making your own fuckin' cartoons...
-
As an African American and an educated Conservative, I can see easily through that stupid "Conservatives hate black people" CONSPIRACY THEORY propaganda piece that you and your kind try to spew. Remember -- it was the DEMOCRATS who espouses slavery, Jim Crow and Segregation. It wasn't until the modern DNC realized that they desperately needed minority support to win elections that they started spinning the LIE that Conservatives are "racists." Let me be clear: Racism is an ugly beast. But, I have encountered far more racism from Liberals than from any true Conservatives. After all, Liberals believe that minorities can't succeed without help from the government. Conservatives believe that minorities are just as capable and just as equipped to succeed -- even if we have to overcome the subtle racism that people like you spew each and every day in the guise of trying to "help" us with bones of welfare. Give it a rest, sister! Go talk with some members of the minority community and find out how socially conservative we REALLY are!
-
I don't care if they doubled their manpower, because this does not mean double work with the same quality. Keep it once a year. Heck, it used to be once every 2 years!
-
So, you are going to blame George Bush for Hurricane Katrina? What Kool-Aid are you drinking? The good-for-nothing mayor of New Orleans was BLACK. He dropped the ball by failing to implement the federal evacuation. But you already knew that, didn't you? It is just easier to believe a conspiracy theory that Conservatives HATE people like me and want us to die, huh? You REALLY need to stop listening to that vicious sort of propaganda. Worse: It is frightening to think that people like you have their votes guided by such propaganda! Damn!
-
I never said Democrat, I said Liberal. And I certainly wasn't including racist Southerners from the 60s...in the 1800's or 1900's. If you don't see the blatant racism in the Tea Party freaks and other conservatives' reaction to our President, then you are blind and beyond fucking help. Abraham Lincoln was a great Republican - every one since has been a piece of shit. But I'm gonna' leave it there, because like some conservative comic book hero you are impervious to logical argument.
-
its totally true, I know a dude, who knows a dude who works there, and they are totally releasing more films. One of them comes out in 2024.
-
So, you believe that fucking lie that the Tea Party people -- motivated by taxation policies -- are "racists?" What have been smoking, asshole? Talk about BLIND! You are taking it up the ass from Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean and every other bottom-feeding propagandist. Yeah, those darn Republicans like Eisenhower -- who integrated the schools -- are so much more racists than the Kennedy's who had Martin Luther King, Jr. tailed by the FBI? You are either LYING and just spewing PROPAGANDA -- or you are a FUCKING MORON! My advice: Get some education and be wary about the propaganda that you drink.
-
...and Liberals hate it when people tell them the TRUTH. rebeck2 is proof of this truth!
-
Dude, you have no reason to see a Pixar or any other animated movie. You're a cartoon of your own making.
-
Thanks! Maybe I can be a cartoon that doesn't subtly preach HYPER-LIBERALISM to children. Of course, a liberal usually is unaware just how liberal they really are. Anyone to the right of Joseph Stalin or Nancy Pelosi is too "conservative" for their taste.
-
They're just fucking with us.

My personal experiences with the tea party have been nothing but moments that make me sad for humanity and the USA. I went to a tea party rally in Boston Commons several months before Obama won the presidential election. It was... well disgusting how they were portraying him. I can see not liking the man's beliefs and opinions and even not liking the man himself but when there were people waving around billboards with Obama with a Hitler mustache or others calling him the antichrist... well let me just say spitting on them was the smallest thing I could have done. I was insulted and I'm not black and don't even really care for Obama but that was insulting to anyone with a brain and a heart. I've never been to another tea party rally but I've seen several of them from afar... and guess what? It doesn't appear things changed much. It's always vitriol, anger, and hatred. They may say its about taxes and other crap but then what explains all the hateful, ignorant imagery, slogans etc?

You know what? If PIXAR actually DID release a movie with no title and no description, I'd go see it
by SifoDyasJr
I trust them that much. In fact, how great would that be if they just said 'show up at the theater on November 27, 2013 for a movie by Pixar'. No trailers, no commercials, no still shots, no idea whatsoever about how they are about to blow you away.
-
Pixar has built a "brand loyalty" precisely BECAUSE they haven't whored their characters out for a cheap buck (Cars aside...the merchandizing on the first film ALONE probably paid for Rataoullie, Wall*E and Up), so doing three sequels in the span of four years is going to damage their rep unless they shy away from doing any more for several years after (a decade should do it...Incredibles 2 can certainly keep, as they'll have to re-cast the kids anyways). I'd hate to see the studio fall into a rut like Disney did in the early 00's.
-
Who knows if that date is relevant, but November 27, 1924 was the date of the first Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade - I wouldn't be surprised if it has something to do with that - though the 89th anniversary isn't what I'd call 'special.' Holiday-themed, NO DOUBT. Did we need this little 'news' item so early? Um.....
-
Anyone in this thread that says PIXAR is rubbish or sucks. Is A LIAR. Pure and simple. You are just trying to seem cool by being contrarian. We all see through you.

I don't know what I will have for dinner
by Surfaces_are_supposed_to_be_FLAT
We know spaghetti and tacos are coming, but what's next on my dinner plate plate? Well, my wife announced today that her next meal, an untitled, original project, which won't be a leftover or takeout, will be cooked on the weekend. No other indication of what kind of meal it is at all from her. My sister-in-law is working with my wife on a recipe for lentil soup at this time. Could this be tonight's meal? Only time will tell. They are both playing it close to their vests with this one. I'll probably learn more later this evening, either at the dinner table or some other event in the kitchen while making myself a Gin and Tonic after work. Either way, those starved of real fucking news on this website, make note the time - around 6:00pm tonight. Me, out.
-
You're so eager to pounce on AICN for "non-news"... consider: putting this out there will likely get people talking and someone, somewhere, who is in the know will send a scoop their way. Think about it.

I miss the anticipation of a Pixar movie that isn't part of an already-established fictional universe. Hope the stick with this new idea better than they did with "Newt".

The story is this: No story. But, check back in...at some point there will be a story. Probably...I don't know. A known screenplay writer is meeting this week with a known animator. Now we're all up to speed. Dreamworks would like to release something in 2013, as well. Stay tuned for more information on that project. That one might be a sequel or a prequel, though. -
And it happens every talkback, I hope you know its up to Brad Bird, the writer/director, and NOT Pixar.
-
Watched that again recently. The first hour is still really good. But I had forgotten how much it descends into a big-budget A-Team episode by the end...rather dull extended shootouts with clunky editing. I guess that marked the moment where Unnamed Voice Actor's destiny lay in movies that were more about action than comedy, for much of the next decade. I was so hopeful when PIXAR'S SECOND UNTITLED PROJECT SLATED FOR MAY 2014 came out that it heralded the return of both Unnamed Director and Unnamed Voice Actor as genuinely comedic guys. But it was a false dawn for both.

There's a shit ton of posts in this talkback stating "this isn't news", "there is no news in this article", "must be a slow news day", just like there is in 75% of all talkbacks. Honestly, it gets old. Unless you knew that Pixar was releasing a non-sequel, non-prequel on Nov 27, 2013, that IS news. Its really a pretty simple concept to grasp. But the yammering masses still want to jump on the "oh look at me I'm cool because I'm sarcastic and jaded" train. Whatever. I explained it. Its not really my problem that most people are too stupid to understand a simple two paragraph article.

They might have the most money for cg tricks, but they got spanked hard by the wit, audacity, and verve of Cloudy with a Chance, and How to Train. And this is coming from someone who bemoans that US animated films are always kiddie fare.

So, what movies is Pixar copying with Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Cars, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Wall-E and Up? Incredibles, the one movie everybody but me seems to want a sequel to, is the only thing they've done that fits into an established mold.
-
But Mosters, Inc is a close recreation of a 1989 Howie Mandel movie called Little Monsters. Mandel's character even looks almost exactly like Sully. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0097758/
-
And Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive of course. ;)
-
That would surprise people. Pixar just get to Antman already! Enough with Cars bull shit. Also to those who try to belittle Pixar by mentioning How to Train Your Dragon and Cloudy with a Chance... You look silly. Those movies were cute but don't stand up well against Pixar films.

People who state opinions as FACT are douchebags.

I don't know the details or the legalities, but its been said numerous times by Brad Bird (and maybe by Lassetter himself), that an Incredibles 2 will only be made if Brad Bird has a story he likes and he decides to make it (or gives it his blessing). Basically, its his call. And from what I remember, The Incredibles was his project, his story before he joined Pixar. His relationship with Fox, or whoever animated The Iron Giant, didn't go so well, but Pixar scooped him up to make his next project a reality. Its his baby really, not Pixar's. That's always been my impression anyway, from what I'd read.

The big oil thing sounded fishy, but I'll give them a chance. Isn't "corporate mogul who is secretly behind worldwide conspiracy" commonplace in spy movies? Also, think about how powerful the oil companies would be in the Cars universe. I don't think there's an equivalent for us to compare it to. It's the obvious choice for something like this.
-
...but I can't believe there are adults that are excited to see "Cars 2". Really?
-
Just to avoid another Newt/Rio I'm gonna presume. Primarily because it can only be coincidental once.

Toy Story -- Velveteen Rabbit, Old Bear, Raggedy Ann & Andy, Corduroy, Winnie the Pooh, The Mouse And His Child, Babes in Toyland, The Indian In The Cupboard, Pinocchio etc. (toys that come to life) Monsters Inc. -- Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, Little Monsters (M Inc. is also a little like the Little Nemo stories). Cars -- MGM Tex Avery toon "One Cab's Family," and "Little Johnny Jet" Ratatouille -- add one part Ralph S. Mouse, and a dash of The Elves and the Shoemaker. Also, Rizzo the Rat is the chef, with help from his rat friends, at Pete's Luncheonette in "Muppets Take Manhattan" Finding Nemo -- typical animal journeying home, or animal separated from family story. Talking fish stories are typical in folklore. And the more recent "Pierrot Le Poisson Clown" WALL·E -- Most people said Short Circuit, but I'll go slightly obscure for ya: "For a Breath I Tarry' by the great fantasy author Roger Zelazny. Also, the humans in the story remind me of Mojo from X-Men, and the Mad Magazine short bit called "Blobs" (though that was probably homage). Up -- Above then Beyond. Also, search Seattle Times + Edith Macefield. Any number of stories involving balloons tied to something or a person to be swept away, Dug the Dog, and his single-minded fixations, is a rip-off of the talking dog from Dexter's Laboratory. Also the two movies I mentioned were far more refreshing and ballsy than Pixar's schmaltzy, panderingly sentimental stories. Being able to make a compass appear like the real thing in CG isn't the epitome of animation or storytelling.
