Do Not Watch the New Red Band ATTACK THE BLOCK Trailer!

This film is absolutely tremendous - but I warn you - if you haven't seen the film - STAY AWAY FROM THIS TRAILER!   I radically disagree with Nordling's endorsement of the trailer - as it takes many of the best punchlines, takes them out of context - and ruins fantastic pay off moments.   Stay pure.   SEE - ATTACK THE BLOCK - but not via this...

Nordling here.

Yeah, yeah, you're all sick of us pimping ATTACK THE BLOCK.  It screened in Austin tonight, and everyone went predictably apeshit.  I don't care.  The reason I love this particular trailer?  Well, just watch until the end...

Whoo hoo!  Baby's first trailer quote!  I'd like to thank the Academy...

Oh yeah, see ATTACK THE BLOCK on July 29th, and stuff, 'cause it's awesome.

Nordling, out.

Seriously, we're planning a trip to London and Paris in the near future, and this is a very good reminder to stay clear of certain places. My thanks to AICN for possibly saving me life.

    Fun movie, but overrated

    by sonic3305

Film sites pump up the movie like it's something downright amazing. I thought it was fun but it's nothing incredible, I wish it hadn't been so unrealistically hyped.

I never want to see a movie about inner city youth in Britain. Ever. If the best jokes were ruined by this trailer, then there are... no other jokes.

I did watch the trailer (no spoilers in comment)

    by HansBubi

...and it seemed to be almost all of the same material in previous trailers. I haven't even watched a lot of the teasers/trailers for the movie, so I can't say I've seen everything, yet most of that trailer was familiar to me. And if this is the trailer that is suppose to be completely unrestrained and show moments that will convince the nay-sayers to see it, yeah....I don't see that happening. This trailer is about as good as the previous trailers. I personally think it looks like an entertaining rental, and maybe it will even be a little better than I expect, but I am getting the vibe online that this is a small geek movie that some geeks saw before other geeks, and so they are treating it like they discovered The Holy Grail.

    This is great

    by CT1

Nordling is beginning to find the darkside, and is finally beginning his conquest towards taking back his mantle, this is a very exciting time, and a bad time to be Quint/Frank Oz. First, a new interview of his own, and then law-ing up to the Big Man himself? This is making a big splash, the Cowboys vs Aliens/Akira interview is kind of long and gives off a vibe of a fresh cock-eyed optimist, the whole situation is very reminiscent of Batman Begins where a bloated Christian Bale shows up on the set and has his water swollen cheeks bloating out of the mask and his double-chinned Bruce Wayne, but later on in the next movie he's streamlined and smooth, and at the top of his game. We never gave up on you.

    by adaptation

That can hardly be called a "trailer". More like a complete synopsis. Those complaining about the hype - yeah, "overhyped" but it's still a massively entertaining & fun movie.

  • Looking forward to the disc though.

    oi, mr chuff

    by rasALclart

I'm amazed by how many british people are intimidated by the accents in this film. That's how 'the poor' speak, and in ATB the kids are actually believable as characters, used with purpose, rather than the usual 'kidulthood' bullshit. And Harry brown was shit because the script was pulled from richard littlejohn's deepest fantasies. I can see why you wanted to love it.

  • June 16, 2011, 4:45 a.m. CST

    by allouttabubblegum

SPOILER! Thats the point...the film points out some key issues. One being you do these sort of things then you take resposibility for it. If you noticed the gang (especially moses) blame everyone else for what they do (a typical trait of chavscum) yet most of them live well enough. theres a scene when moses states that the government made the aliens so more blacks kill each other...this is deliberately as absurd gangsta as it sounds ....and met with a laugh down by the girls. The gang look up to and want rspect from the local drug dealing scumbag on the block...but if you look at the guy hes not someone you should want to be....a psycho self loving prick. by the end moses takes responsibilty for his actions ,goes against this "father figure" and protects the community. Its message to the yoof is pretty clear there.

that's what you guys have been hyping?

a so-so flick who's main feature is having quasi-illiterate kids shout and ramble incoherently for 2 hours. with aliens....yeah you guys are hyping it wayyyyyyy to much.

  • June 16, 2011, 6:54 a.m. CST

    Don't worry, I won't watch the trailer...

    by koruption

Because I won't see the movie. It's probably a great movie, it's just not my thing. I only have so many dollars to spend on movies, and with how hyped up this movie is I will just wait for the inevitable netflix release.

    Attack the Block is

    by realJWade

riotously funny, intense, just scary enough, and really entertaining. The trailer doesn't do this movie justice.

  • June 16, 2011, 8:20 a.m. CST

    Looking forward to this!

    by Flibbertygibbet

On a slight aside, there's been some hilarious recent commentary both in the press (UK) and on this very talkback to the tune of "Chav is an offensive term aimed at belittling the working classes". Absolute gobshite. It's attributing a name to those who display a pattern of behaviour - that which most civilised folk would descibe as abhorrent and antisocial. To interpret that as an arrogant attack on the poor smacks of someone looking for a cause to make their name off. If I see someone mugging a nurse, the first words out of my mouth are not "What socio-economic grouping does this bold urchin fall under?" No, more like "What a massive cunt!". I should also take this moment to stress to our American cousins, that class is not the issue in Britain that many would have you believe - 'haves' and the 'have-nots' really, same as you.

  • June 16, 2011, 9:30 a.m. CST

Eloquently put, but I've had too many run ins with that type of idiot to have any respect for them, film or not.

  • June 16, 2011, 9:47 a.m. CST

    Not hyped enough, actually

    by slone13

Attack the Block was better than just about every other movie I've seen so far this year. Go ahead, name a better one. Right now.

  • June 16, 2011, 3:16 p.m. CST

    yeeeaaaa after all the hype..

    by thesmilingpsycho

this looks just okay. what the hell is up with the aliens? they dont seem interesting at all. like giant hairballs with glowing teeth. i dunno. i dont really care for this one so far.

  • June 16, 2011, 5:55 p.m. CST

Thats the major issue with the film, methinks

    by david starling

Where I live, its the stereotype of idiots that infest this movie, are rife. And maybe its a bunch of fun to see them acting all big on the screen, but from where I'm standing, it would be also really good to see the cunts get what they deserve!!

  • June 16, 2011, 6:09 p.m. CST

    Another waste of resources.

    by MajorFrontbum

Why do they insist on making garbage like this? Movies like this and Hot Fuzz are a pathetic waste of time and are forgotten about, as soon as they're released. Complete and utter nonsense!!

  • June 16, 2011, 8:06 p.m. CST

So, this movie must be racist right...

    by Kevinicus

Because it looks like it has characters that behave along some of the stereotypical lines that so many have bashed and called racist when they were present in Revenge of the Fallen. Though I'm sure it's perfectly fine though because they have odd accents.

  • June 16, 2011, 9:39 p.m. CST

Stoner comedy got boring a long time ago.

    by Jerry Piper

I have no plans to see this.

  • It's the Brits complaining about chavvy accents, and annoyin inner city kids. While Americans are loving the film, and some of them are occasionally finding the accents a little tough to understand. I think this all goes back to the class oriented mind set of Brits.

  • June 17, 2011, 4:44 a.m. CST

    dead on nabster

    by rasALclart

And flibbertygibbet, 'chavscum' may have been funny in in 2004, laughing at burberry baseball caps and big spoilers on fiestas, but it has since become a widely used term 'a bit chavvy' to describe anything without 'class'.

  • June 17, 2011, 7:08 a.m. CST

    by Flibbertygibbet

"Class oriented mindset"? Behave. Any difference in UK vs US response to the protagonists in this film is simply down to distance. I doubt the accent 'means' anything to US audiences, whereas it does to Brits - certainly Londoners. It's synonymous with a subculture. That's exactly why they're using it in this film: recognition=characterisation. Your opinion of the British Class System© is out of date. Can I assume you're not from these shores?
