CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER Cast And Crew Poster At Hero Complex!
Nordling here.
I really want one of these bad boys. The Hero Complex Film Festival ends tomorrow, but if you're one of the lucky attendees, you may end up getting one of these cast and crew posters from CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER. They're giving away five of them at the festival, according to Hero Complex. I love it. It's beautiful, retro, and this would be great to see hanging in theaters:

How awesome is that? Cap is punching Hitler! This sucker's going on my wallpaper for sure. CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER is opening July 22, and that day can't come fast enough for me.
Nordling, out.

I like the style and design of the poster but all the faces look off. And I mean WAY OFF!
by golden tribw
-
.....WHY SPOIL?!?!?!?! i was trying so hard to keep specific information regarding the entity, which I now know is... a critter..., out of my understanding. CURSES
-
"critter" by no means is an accurate description
-
Grow a pair, if all you saw was the headline you don't know shit about the movie.
-
That is just too cool. Marvel is having an amazing year.

Composition is a bit cluttered but CAP PUNCHING HITLER!!!
by Margot Tenenbaum
To short-circuit a talkback complainer's complain-brain, just have a little Hitler-Punching. It's so simple an Abrams can do it. Coming next summer: STAR TREK 12: ALL THIS AND WORLD WAR II

Goldentribe: How are the faces way off? I think Evans, Atwell and Jones are spot on
by MARCEL_THE_NEGRO_PROJECTIONIST
don't see what you're complaining about. Besides, back when Struzan used to do just about every big movie poster, he always stylized the faces as opposed to being photo realistic about them. He caught their essence. Which I think this poster does. Especially Hayley Atwell.
-
That's probably Arnim Zola.
-
Really busy - and the art deco font and shading - I guess it's the right era, but doesn't really fit the tone of Captain America. But kudos for at least trying something outside of what they usually do.
-
I would pay generously to have one of these on my wall. Why the heck didn't they use this as the official poster? It's way better than the one we got.
-
Whoever's in charge of marketing NEEDS to have this as the official poster of Captain America. It'd be a crime otherwise.
-
I just hope we SEE Cap Punch Hitler IN the film! ;-D
-
Hey by the by can we get a Critters remake.
-
It's a great iconic image. Maybe he'll get a lick in before being captured by the Skull. Is Nick Fury going to be one of the Commandos? Doesn't look like it, unless he's the one on the far right.

-
Glad they seem to be making all the right moves with Cap. Wish fulfillment at its best.
-
I think Cap and Adolph should be about 10 - 15% bigger in the poster to do it justice. Other than that I really like it. Love the classic homage.
-
Pretty damn close to the cover of Captain America #1 http://www.mutantfrog.com/wp-content/uploads/2006/10/captainamerica1.jpg
-
My god, I hate the 21st century.
-
Looks like a Howard Chaykin illustration... Blackhawk anyone?
-
Seriously... THAT would be the best One sheet to come out in 25-30 years. Giving away FIVE?!?!?! Marvel would make a mint if they sold those!!!
-
Reminds me of the artwork of the older comic books that I used to read awhile back. They where called little big books back then. My "Grandma" had a couple and they sure where fun...I hope the movie lives up to the vibe of the trailer and poster. I am pumped to see this flick.
-
Actually "Big Little Books" were not comic books, they were square bound books with cheap paper than were written like novels with occassional illustrations usually... but sometimes just single panel to a page throughout, but those were nearly always reprints of Newspaper strips - but this was concurrent with the printing of Comic Books. Comic Books and Big Little Books co-existed and were different creatures.
-
Even in drawings. It's a expression that says "I know i'm not worthy but please accept me".
-
or: Captain America and his Howling Basterds. You Tubers...get mashing!
-
Not one bit. This needs to be the official poster!!
-
they look fine................the poster is fucking awesome
-
...and love the font.
-
Don't you love how every time a new poster, trailer or still is posted here, the armchair critics stick their oily heads up from behind their bags of chee-tohs in an attempt to make themselves appear learned to the rest of us plebeians. They always seem to latch onto one or two "flaws" that their "discerning eye" has miraculously captured that the rest of us neophytes didn't. "Oh nice try" says one, "but I'm afraid the shading lacks the subtle nuance often found in the compositions of the period you are trying to portray. It's far to anachronistic for my taste" he then rolls a 10 sided die to use his +5 Magus Shield to deflect the Green Wyvern's ice breath. "The overall aesthetic is so hackneyed and contrived I can barely contain the bile in my gullet" says another, whilst trying to scratch his back with a loofa taped to bent coat hanger. "If ONLY the title was .0002 picas lower and .0149 to the left, this would be perfect, but as it stands, UTTER FAIL! And what leading were they using? 12 point? SHEESH!" At that moment, the manager of Kinkos tells him his break was up 10 minutes ago. Nitpickers make me smile in their absolutely "full-of-themselves" absurdity.
-
we all know how this movie will rely on every avalible technology to sell it so for a poster to suggest it's a classy throwback to the days of the hand-made serials is a bit pretentious. Reminds me of the Super 8 Stuzan poster trying to emulate Speilberg. just too calculated.
-
..hitting Hitler is kinda goofy...Be funny if he was sockin' the Queen of England...
-
But they'll never do that. They'll be afraid teenagers will be turned off by it somehow. Oh, and Nico, how is 1940s not "old school"? I mean, I've always hated that expression, but should it refer to something older?

I love it
-
You realize that this is a poster for the cast and crew - meaning a gift to the people that made the film. Joe Johnston made THE ROCKETEER and loves the period and era that the film is set in. The same evocative era that the poster is made. As a gift to those that made the film, it is elegant and fun. That they gave 5 to Hero Complex to give out over the fest they're doing is cool.
-

Did anybody bring up this is basically the cover to Captain America #1
by Continentalop
From 1941? http://tinyurl.com/3fc37d9 If anyone did, sorry I am too drunk and tired to look.
-
Cool, continentalop, just googled the first issue cover. Glad they incorporated that into this poster.
-
Holy snot balls! I would give my right eye for that poster. Is this for sure a limited run? It's breathtaking.
-
the brown gloves and chin strap, padded BMX wear and shoulder pads that look nothing like something from the 40's, and the pointless red straps still look goofy. Anyhow, go read Joe Simon's autobiography which just came out and Kirby King of Comics by Mark Evanier.
-
Richard Donner comes out for a Q&A and guess who doesn't stand up or applaud... Harry Knowles that's who! Nice tribute Harry you lazy ass!!!
-
yes they did,at least a dozen times. :P
-
It's just the way people toss out that phrase for anything of a bygone era. It's just ridiculous. Could you imagine standing on the Great Wall of China, and some idiot next to you says something like "Yeah. Old school, dog. This shit is hot." It's a stupid phrase for stupid people. And anyone who disagrees only does so because they belong with the aforementioned stupid people. I have a lot of love for the 1930s and 40s, and to see someone talk like Puff Daddy makes me wish people still had some class.
-
That would be cool, at least we know he wouldn't go out like he did in Spartan.
-
Did you not see the super 8 trailer, which appeared months ago? Please don't tell me you thought an "imaginary" creature was trying to escape from that fucking boxcar. P.S. Poster is cool.
-
if Marvel is going to be allowed to have one of the Howling Comandos named Logan or say Hey Bub or if Fox would stop that sort of thing. Because wasn't Wolverine in ether the Howling Comandos or had some sort of World War 2 connection to Captain America?
-
You're right. Harry didn't stand up and applaud Richard Donner at the Hero Complex fest. You know why? Because HE WASN'T THERE. Kind of hard to stand and applaud for someone 3,000 miles away. I was there, though, and I stood up and applauded, as one should, when the man came out. I also got the chance to thank him for making Superman so good since that was my parent's first date and if the movie had been shitty who knows if I would even exist right now. To that, Mr. Donner laughed, clapped me on the shoulder and called me "Son!" Yeah, I wet myself a little. Leave me alone, I'm a nerd.

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...... come on lads, get the finger out...
-
would have been perfect as the Red Skull. He just needs some red face paint.
-
if the entire cast and crew got one that means there are hundreds of them in existence.
-
Now that Drew Struzan has retired, Alex Ross should start doing hand painted movie posters. Someone has to be the antithesis to the Photoshopped-floating-heads motif of the early 90s onwards. While I can't speak for the quality of this movie, I like this poster very much... it feels "right." It looks like the Paramount and Marvel Studios publicity departments "gets" the material.
-
Lets just make Struzan posters for everying....Eventually the Struxan posterwill become about as un-unique as a can of coke in a pack of 24.... Cant wait to see the one for Cowboys and Aliens.
-

Now that'd a movie i'm warming over. And that poster is fantastic!
by AsimovLives
I started terribly suspicious of this movie, but the more i learn about it the more i'm liking what i'm seeing. I'm quite interested in this movie. I really made a face heel turn on this one. I'm going to watch it with interest. I just hope i don't have my good hopes dashed. And again: fantastic poster.
-
The only thing that the poster and Struzan's art have in common are that they are painted and relatively photo-realistic. The composition is different from any Struzan poster. The style isn't a match by any means. Most importantly, Struzan's work is a lot tighter than this (though, this is pretty damn sweet). Struzan isn't the only guy that has painted posters. As others have pointed out, this smacks of posters from the 20s, 30s, and 40s more than anything else.
-
Just saw them both yesterday with lazy Knowles sitting behind me. The first 1/2 hour of Superman The Movie is exceptional and then... Otis arrives and those parts are a mess!! Just ridiculous!! Why would the world's greatest criminal mind saddle himself with lunkheads like Beatty and Perrine? The Donner cut is also NOT as good as the original Superman II. Especially the ending when Superman... once again... flies around the world to change time!!!! He flies so far back that Zod and crew are never released from the Phantom Zone yet... Clark still goes back to the diner to teach the hillbilly truck driver a lesson!!!!!! But that couldn't have happened if Superman changed time!!!!!!! Just utter nonsense.
-
I cannot express how much I love this poster. This would have been great as the big one you see at every theater for each movie. Those who understand how cool it was would get it.
-
Cameo?
-
And to be honest, as opposed to just being a gift for cast and crew (as I believe) it should be the standard for when the movie arrives!! Trust me, after half the shite one-sheets that have been around of recent, this would make a refreshing change!!
-
That should be Captain Britain punching Hitler, I don't believe Capatain America tunred up till it was nearly over ;) x
-
...X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. I saw THOR and really liked it, but XM:FC was in a class by itself. The story that filled in the gaps of everything that's come before was just SO good. I was really quite surprised.

All that said, I'm a raving GL fan, but I think this movie is going to be all flash and little substance. So far, the trailers have been fantastic at rendering the GL Corps., Oa and even the Guardians, but the Paralax story just looks weak, as do the ridiculously cheesy ring constructs. That plus the incredible miscasting of Ryan Reynolds and completely missing the character of Hal Jordan. No thanks.

Lastly, Capt. America just really leaves me a little cold. I think we've seen all the best parts in the trailer. And the movie isn't going to play well overseas, so I think that the worldwide gross is going to be a lot lower than they're planning. My prediction is that THOR or GL will win for total box office, but XM:FC wins for best story.

Hope you all like the poster coz early reviews are in.....sounds like as with the Phantom Menace the marketing is better than the product, oh well, at least Thor was fun.
by Arkhaminmate001
-
Unless you are 120 years old, I would consider anything today done in a style from the 1940s to most definitely be 'old-school'. Unless the expression itself is what bothers you since no one actually said 'old-school' in the 1940s. What would be more appropriate for you? Retro? Archaic? STFU?
-
Looks good ,but if you where born after Superman The Movie came out maybe you should keep your opinions to yourself since you missed having the true cinema experience of all the movies geeks geek about. I kid of course ,but it does take away some cred if say your first Jaws viewing was on VHS course opinions are like well you know the saying.
-
I've seen untold numbers of movies in the theater and I can now officially say I've had enough. Overpriced, loaded with annoying & rude assholes, packed with commercials (not necessarily trailers), matinees either completely gone or reduced to just shows before 3pm (instead of 6pm) and at prices just $1.50 less than full-price night shows. Down with movie theaters, long live downloads!
-
Oh I agree going to a movie now is terrible ,but there was a time when this was not the case when I was growing up it was a privilege to go out and see a movie ,you behaved and watched the damn movie of course it did not cost 60 bucks for two people to go to the show get and some snacks.
-
Very classy.
-
If you're a movie fan, (whether or not you like comics/ marvel/ Capt America/ Avengers) THAT'S a damn good movie poster. ...... nuff said.

So bored with people saying they hate movie theaters. I go to the movies all the time. I love it. Never really ever have problems. I get people having bad experiences not liking it anymore. But most of the people going out of their way to degrade it are social failures. Sorry I like going to the movies with you know friends. Wish this site would just wash away the bitter ass holes who are taking their problems here instead of a therapist.
-
He's a great cover artist, there's a little info on his blog regarding this piece! A labor of love by the artist, so happy it got used for the cast and crew. http://tinyurl.com/3mx768g He's done some awesome comics over the past few years - either very Alex Ross influenced with his painted series Marvel: Mythos or just GREAT Alex Toth style drawn work.
-
Of course it's just a small run poster; no movie distributor nowadays is cool enough to veer away from the photoshopped floaty-head norm of the last 15-20 years. Jeez, current movie publicity is so freakin' lame and unimaginative. Name me a studio who'd have the balls to use artwork as sweet as the "Star Wars Style D" poster now? http://tinyurl.com/3zoslt3
-
Period.
-
Gabe Jones, one of the Howling Commandos. Based on the crew list, it looks as if Jones and Dum Dum Dugan are the only "Howlers" in the movie.
-
I don't know jack shit about this kind of thing, but is there a way one could take that to Kinkos and get it blown up without a ridiculous loss in quality?

And I'm pretty sure that it isn't just used by Puff Daddy fans. Of course, since I disagree with you, I've automatically lost any credibility and am beneath your station. By the way, calling everyone who disagrees with you "stupid" is the very epitome of this "class" you speak of. You'll find it in spades on this site.
-
Back in the day, around 2500 BC, my man Khufu was the baddest moffucka around. He ruled all of Egypt, and shit. Homie was old school, and wasn't about to go out like some bitch. He knew a true pimp builds pyramids, and the biggest pimp has the biggest pyramid, right? Well guess what his crazy ass did?
-
Seriously, that is an amazing piece of art. Even the lettering screams 40's! If the movie is half as good as this poster I'll be happy.
-
You are dead on. Friggen armchair geeks. Hey, I love my comic books and sci-fi too. I also know what a vagina feels like.
-
Here you go - I enhanced it with PhotoZoom to 16x24 (any bigger gives diminishing returns): http://www.fileserve.com/file/ScW4x6g
-
Looks like the artist has a limited knowledge of classic poster design. There is a lot of clutter and little in the way of a focal point or dynamic motion above the strong diagonal line bisecting the layout. Frankly, the characters were placed in the poster in a haphazard manner. Red Skull needs to be much bigger (or smaller), the faces should have been repositioned (yes, I'm suggesting actually painting characters, instead of relying on photos and using Photoshop) to emphasize the dynamism of the best of the old propaganda posters. I would have rejected this as Art Director. Sorry, fellas.
-
It's too easy to come here and complain. Instead, give us an example of a poster you would have approved of, if you were employed by Marvel/Disney as Art Director. To me it's a pretty god damn awesome poster that beats most stuff coming out today.
-
teddy artery, you are a sad, sad little troll. I'm sure whatever crappy entry-level graphic design job you have or wish you had makes you think you have some sort of expertise in the art of 'classic poster design' but really you have just mastered the art of 'being a pathetic troll that has made the internet a toxic wasteland'

Great retro feel. Hope some of the 'Rocketeer' magic rubs off on this; it was a criminally underrated movie!
-
according to joblo. Most of it's with pencil, ink and paint. Pics AND text. Beat that!
-
previewing before Super 8 this weekend. It really looks great. I think this flick is going to be a winner. Chris Evans nailed this role.

Cap socking Hitler in the jaw!!! Priceless!!!
-
But the strain caused him to suffer a heart attack.
-
When I saw they were in this, I didn't even notice Hitler getting socked.
-
Cap looks like its going to be a very good movie and now with this sweet poster that is a throw-back to when movie posters WERE an art form and worth getting, I'm definitely getting this and looking forward to the movie. But punching out Hitler... I hope that scene IS in the movie, just for that scene alone I would pay to see the movie. (AMERICA! FUCK YEAH! Sorry but had to throw that in there.) Marvel better keep this up with their other properties.
-
He could be punching you. That also would make a cool poster.
-
Fantastic. Sure I know it's a throw back but it's a genius level move considering. Truly classy and just full of win. So stoked for this.

The poster is great, what a beautiful idea. I hope this is the best movie of the summer.
-
I'm not even a "Marvel guy", really, but this Cap movie looks amazing. This poster seals the deal for me. This is easily my most anticipated superhero movie. As far as what other countries think... In this particular case I don't care. It's Captain AMERICA. I don't complain about Bond being too British, now do I? =)
