Mondo Tees and Shepard Fairey's THEY LIVE Poster!

Tonight at the Alamo Drafthouse Shepard Fairey hosted, along with Mondo Tees, one of the films that influenced him as an artist, John Carpenter's THEY LIVE. In celebration of the event, Fairey designed a poster for it. It will be available for purchase tomorrow at Mondo Tees, but amount is limited and since this will be an original work by Shepard Fairey it will probably go about as fast as it takes for you to read this article. Follow @MondoNews on Twitter for more details, as they will announce on their Twitter feed when the posters will go on sale. In the meantime, here's Shepard Fairey's THEY LIVE poster:

If you look, you see just one image, the easily found image of the alien. Also, the background with all the newspapers. What is that? This looks like it took all of an hour to put together. Sorry, I find many recent Mondo posters to be poor efforts.

Imagine the commercial. Obama is speaking at a podium, the crowd is being whipped into a hysterical frenzy. O-BA-MA! O-BA-MA! Then, moving amid the crowd, one man, Rick Santorum, dons a pair of dark sunglasses. And Obama is revealed as a creepy Alien-Skeleton from They Live. Santorum draws forth a squirt gun and fires in slow motion, smothering Obama in a frothy mix of lube and fecal matter, revealing Obama's true identity to the crowd. The Secret Security descends on Obama. The crowd now turns in favour of Santorum, lifts him up the crowd surfs him across the room. Camera moves in to Close-Up of Santorum: 'I'm Rick Santorum, and I approve this message." God, that would be fucking brilliant.

The film was made in 1988, and Fairey is prone to using Ronald Reagan in his American anti-political posters. That is 100% no-doubt definitely Ronald Reagan.

Such an ad would require brains and creativity. 2 things Santorum is sorely lacking. I see him in more of a creepy "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" political ad...one where he screams like a girl and points hysterically every time he sees a gay guy walk by.

He is right. Sheppurd steals other artists work on a massive scale. He also uses Illustrator but thats a different story. On the other hand, how many artists can say they've had the impact he's had. I have zero respect for his stealing of art and his work. Plus, it's supposed to be a They Live poster. He just copied the orignal poster. Surprise. Its an OBey poster.
