The Red Skull Speaks in latest CAPTAIN AMERICA tv spot!

Hey folks, Harry here...  if you've been wondering about Hugo Weaving's vocals as THE RED SKULL in Joe Johnston's upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA movie...  well...   we had heard that he was modeling the voice after Werner Herzog's German accent - and I think it's a tad more gravely than Werner - but I like what little I hear in this new TV SPOT - check it out a bunch, like I just did...

    Still 100% Nazi-free! Thanks Disney/Marvel!

    by Quake II

I would HATE to have Nazis in a World War 2 Captain America movie. That might offend people if they see that horrible swastica on uniforms or a flag. Let's revise history and pretend we fought some bullshit sci-fi organization named "Hydra" that has an evil squid as their symbol. I WAS really looking forward to this movie until I did some internet searching and found out EVERY vehicle and uniform has a Hydra logo and NOT a German cross or swastica. Fuck this politically correct Disney film. I hope it BOMBS hard. X-Men:First Class for the win. And please save your breath with the "But Hydra is an offshoot of the Nazis and The Red Skull was an SS agent etc." I read that the movie references and briefly shows Nazis but quickly switches over to Hydra to sell action figures and keep the scary symbols to a minimum.

    by leo54304

After all NBC mini series "holocaust" didn't back away from having SS officers in their uniforms. Hollywood has had war films for decades showing nazi's in their uniforms. I mean showing nazi's in uniforms is going to piss off which audience? Maybe the 70+ age group in Brazil, Argentina and any other retirement nation of ratzi survivors.

  • June 9, 2011, 7:36 p.m. CST

Action looks like physics/gravity are unrealistic.

    by riskebiz

Remember X3 where Beast jumps around like he was definitely on wires? Where gravity and physics mattered not a whit to Ratner? Well...Cap jumping around in this does not make me rest easy. It looks exactly like wire work and not seemless wirework at that. I don't find what I see here to be believable work. That jumping the fence or when he jumps up to grab that chain...physics aren't at work here. Gravity is still at play, but not in those scenes. I hope I am wrong.

  • June 9, 2011, 7:43 p.m. CST

    Happy boy, you were saying????

    by Quake II

You throw an insult my way and then...nothing. So you're a Disney apologist I take it? You like your World War 2 movies Nazi-free? Cool. Raiders Of The Lost Ark would have been so much better if Indy was fighting Hydra. Your mom's calling you. Dinner's ready. It's corndog night! Your favorite :-D

  • Cool, you get to hear Captain America speak too, I'm glad they decided to not go with the over-modulated, growling, monster, sexy, roar bad-ass voice that certain superheros/watchful protectors seem to "suffer" from, and instead went with the smarmy sarcastic one-liner jokey whiney Ryan-Reynolds-trying-to-be-hard-with-a-cute-wittle-smile voice, I feel this is a more realistic approach to comic book characters and gives a fresh spin on what's quickly become an oversaturated bloated low quality genre of film. Hugo Weaving also appears to have really found the spirit of his own character, and by offering us an non-threatening, gentle, generic bad guy, we as the audience can feel that maybe this "horrible" situation could happen to us. It seems as though Hugo has really tapped into the "Heath Ledger spirit" here with the attention to voice-work, and I think the results will really show in the product. I'm excited for the waves this film will bring to the the rich and colorful world of comic book movies.

  • June 9, 2011, 9:05 p.m. CST

Red Skull not in Nazi gear

    by Continentalop

I think they are taking elements from a Roger Stern story where Baron Strucker set up Hydra during the war, and from a Captain Savage & his Leatherneck Raiders where they encountered a proto-Hydra during WWII. If that is the case I can understand why Red Skull isn't in Nazi regalia, he is already setting up for when Nazi Germany falls. However, if he NEVER is in the uniform during the movie, and they don't have any SS or Nazi uniforms, fuck that. Cap not punching a Nazi is just wrong on so many levels.

    Burnout is definitely understandable

    by CT1

Even Harry, who was so eager before, seems to be experiencing it's effects.. nary a single exclamation point to be found. Fortunately or unfortunately, based upon your viewpoint, I feel we are nearing the end of the comic book film era.. These once honorable forms of entertainment have been essentially mined and stripped down to the skeleton, catalogues of characters and secondary peripheral characters whored out and milked for everything they had to offer to the studio gods. The Avengers film will be the last of the schlock ones, one last dying gasp of a decade of generic crap sprinkled here and there with greatness, making a sort of beautiful blend.. and if The Dark Knight Rises is as "successful" as it's sibling, it will be a dignified noble closing on a somewhat mediocre chapter of film history that produced a few flashes of true artistry.

    by cookylamoo

  • Because let's face it, the charactyer fought Nazi Germany in hundreds of issues of comics. And Hydra was an organization created much later in the Captain America run (I believe). I don't care if there are no Nazi in a hundred other films, but this is a WORLD WAR 2 movie that takes place in Europe. And the reasoning behind putting Hydra front and center is purely an executive decision, NOT creative. That's my problem with it. The need to sell action figures and appeal to Disney shareholders is trumping common sense. I would have loved them to take the Hellboy route and have Hydra as an offshoot of the Nazis but have both parties present throughout the film. A make believe organization just cheapens the film and takes it into GI Joe territory, and I HATED that film with a passion. The Hydra costume designs and motorcycles I've seen so far look absurd. Really dumb. Like movie Green Goblin bad. And to put Hydra logos on German equipment is just lame and silly.

  • June 10, 2011, 1:41 p.m. CST

"charactyer" Love the lack of an edit button.

    by Quake II

One more thing....I'll be seeing Captain America and hoping for the best. All silly Hydra soldiers aside, I look forward to seeing some World War 2 action and equipment on screen again. I miss the late 90's-early 2000's when Hollywood had several war movies come out every year. I noticed on some stills that Cap is standing in front of a couple German Sdfkz 222 armored cars. Although I'm sure they have goofy octopuss Hydra logos I would still buy the toy for my son as those are badass vehicles even with the German cross removed (do a google search).
