About those alleged MINORITY REPORT sets being built on Manhattan Beach...

Published at:  Jan 12, 2000 4:38:43 AM CST

Twas complete and utter BULLSHIT. I'm just getting back to Austin, and there have been several developments with MINORITY REPORT that many in the 'web world' haven't quite caught on to yet. The first is this draft that every 'scooper' out there seems to have of the film. That script... and Spielberg's film are not the same things. They were once... about a year ago.... but since then the project has been undergoing a complete reconception through a collaborative process of writing and pre-production that Spielberg has been working on.... while Scott Frank gets this incredibly difficult script together. If this movie goes forward (and I'm confident it will) it would go forward at the FOX LOT.... NOT MANHATTAN BEACH... When I saw Father Geek's posting of that Autronic Eye bloke... I followed up with some people I know in and around Dreamworks... They said that we will be finding out very soon which way things will be going with the project. Patience... Oh yes, the future will not look like the 1950's, it's far ahead of that retro-future-styling... If you track down some of what I said back during the Austin Heart of Texas Film Festival and Writer's Fest... you'll see some of what I learned from Scott Frank then. Now, who knows where it's at now... but the only thing I worry about is Cate Blanchett scheduling all these other projects, when she's supposed to be signed for this... but I guess Steven can accomadate most any schedule. Harry out...

  • If they made Robin Williams look like a robot, then i would think it was possible for the FX wizards to do the same for a robot. That is to say, make the Robot look human. I think with the right make up and using a camera technique called forced prospective, THE IRON GIANT could appear reduced in size and made to look like Natalie Portman, or even Cate Blanchett for that matter. Then there would be no worries about if the real actress was avaliable or not.

    up late, Natalie, etc.

    by lazarus long

why go to sleep when Bravo is showing Woody Allen's Shadows & Fog? What a cool film. Worth it for the B&W cinematography alone. And the magician's line at the end, when told that people love his illusions: "Love them? They need them, like they need the air." Why is it that some directors always end their films on the perfect line and shot, when others never seem to know when to quit? I can't think of a Woody film that doesn't end exactly as it should...anyway, I don't know what Natalie has to do with Minority Report, but did anyone see her on Letterman earlier this year? She looked more beautiful that in any film I've seen so far. She also appeared very down to earth (almost dorky), and was actually witty; a great guest. I discovered it on a random VHS tape and thought I'd mention it. For jerk-off copies send $9.95 to the following address: ANYWAY, now that there's a new Minority Report we can continue the Spielberg (Crayola-Boy) debate, but on a non-stale news item. Release the hooooouuunds...

  • Is there any truth to the rumor that the MINORITY REPORT sets are to bear an uncanny resemblance to Natalie Portman's bedroom? Also, in response to the above post concerning Ms. Portman's intellect, is it not true that she was recently inducted into MENSA after being found to have an IQ *ten points* higher than former Bush Chief of Staff, John Sununu? Natalie is a remarkable young woman, who seems to surprise us at every turn. Now, if only that next surprise would be taking the lead role in a remake of THE STORY OF O.

Could somebody please tell me why you are always talking about Natalie Portman? Your poedophilic fantasies are not welcome here - so please go blow your top over the teenage girl somewhere else ... you make these talk back sessions about as exciting as getting an enema by a leper ...

Darth Bond and the smashing of forms re: THE IRON GAINT

    by todd

The point i would like to make and one which i believe Nietzsche made somewhat in one of his papers, is that, "Form is the meduim through which life becomes manifest in its grand style, and the mere shattering of forms is for humans a disaster". This is why ritual and decomrum being the structring forms of all civilizations. It is very important that I keep posting about THE IRON GIANT for this is the form which i am most expressive. And i do not think this site is about curtailing expressiveness. So let me try and explain for you Mr Bond, if that is your real name: I would relate this talk back form of mine to that of the peotic art of the Sonnet. for there too is a very demanding form, yet the poet acquires within it a force and range of expression that he could never have gained without it, and therby a new order of freedom. With out the sonnet form, this would not be possible. Mr Bond, you may be surprised to know that there are many people who find that and achievement of the recognized forms easy and can play with them at will, expressing through them their own creative aims in a rich and vital way. And then there are folks like yourself Mr Bond, who would seem unable to achieve form at all, and so smashes and disparages out of resentment. This seems very authoritarian and cold too me. I hope this helps you understand Mr Bond. Thanks

A Plea For Tolerance & A Natalie Portman Nude Scene

    by mrbeaks

Let's check our preconceptions at the door, folks! The Iron Giant should have a crack at MINORITY REPORT, and Natalie should be forgiven for her anti-NAFTRA rant at the Golden Globes three years ago.

    Natalie and her IQ..

    by devils halo

doesn't mean a thing when all I want is for her to answer an all too simple question: "who's your daddy?" Of course Todd's remark would be: the Iron Giant.

    portman, wtf!

    by canuck boy

what is it with the internet geeks and natalie portman. she and gillian anderson are mentioned so flippin much. they are both good actors, but let it remain there instead of everyone downloading stupid pics and surfing the net with one hand if you know what i mean. portman has nothing to do with MR, so why are we mentioning her? (of course i realize the irony in me complaining about the mentioning of portman, and then mentioning her myself) until next time from the frozen waste land of Canada, i shall remain here with my movies and my hockey stick,

    canuck boy!

Jeez, we don't know what the set is, the final draft of the script is, or who's going to star in "Minority Report", but Natiale Portman may be in it!! That's you're big news? Feh! You're all wetting your pants by an actress who, IMHO, has yet to impress me acting-wise. So just leave her alone and talk about other plot points...I think it was her who changed her last name so online dorks wouldn't hunt her down after "Star Wars 1". Now I can see why.--Saulot--

    manhattan beach

    by biggidy

The rumors about sets being built in Manhattan Beach may be true despite Moriarty's dismissal as utter bullshit. For those of you who don't know, Raleigh Studios, Hollywood built several brand new sound stages a few years ago in Manhattan Beach, about 25 miles south of Hollywood. Long running shows like Ally McBeal are currently being filmed there among others. This site is very close to where Spielberg wanted to develop his SKG studios before plans fell through. These stages boast to be bigger than most in the L.A. area with more modern conviences, in a cooler, less congested and less smoggy environment. Perhaps those reasons have convinced Spielberg to shoot "elsewhere"

Is this film going to happen?

    by r.a.iders

Is it absolutely certain that this film is going to happen? It all seems a bit too vague at the moment. I know there were scheduling problems because of the overshoot on MI2, but still..
If this film isn't made it will be one of the biggest missed opportunities for years. We need Spielberg to get back to some of his trademark 'popcorn' movies before he gets all serious again with 'Geisha'.
Has anybody got any concrete news???
