And the award for worst confirmed fake AMAZING SPIDER-MAN poster ever goes to...
Hey folks, Harry here... and this drives me insane. Look at this truly awful teaser poster. This showed up over at TOTAL FILM and it purports to be the official teaser poster. I don't like the font. The placement of the "logo" nor the background of the poster. This feels like someone was given an hour to put something together, because someone realized too late that they should put out a poster for this summer of super-heroes. Now there's a good chance this could not be real - except I find it hard to believe that someone attempting to fake a SPIDER-MAN poster would be this unimaginative. However, it could be fake, no matter - be underwhelmed greatly...

Accurately predicts the quality of the final film I think....
by ChickenStu
It's SO destined to be lame. They should've forged ahead with Raimi and made "Spider-Man 4".
-
There is no way the new AMAZING SPIDER-MAN poster is "ok" - It blows a cadaver's dick!
-
One reason to be cheerful!
-
Is that background supposed to be Spider-Man's suit or the Lizard's scales?
-

I'd rather have it be bland and uninspired then terribly photoshopped and airbrushed
by double_ball_hanger
Also, I love the usernames on this site. Assymuffjizz is an adult, I'm sure. I love the internet.
-
This basically says .. it's not like the last ones .. promise .. but it's not like anything .. at all.
-
and I'm shit!
-
Looks like some foreign bootleg knockoff. I don't believe it. Maybe a mockup, but not the real thing. No way.
-
Beyond bland.
-
You guys didn't notice the "MARVEL STUDIOS" in the poster? Marvel Studios supposedly was not involved with this movie.
-
The more I keep looking at it, the more I keep seeing a greenish hue to the lower part of the background, and maybe the cuts are supposed to represent a "healing" factor...I don't know, maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me, but it is a "teaser" poster, so maybe.
-
It's obviously fake
-
steven_spielbergs_dickblood? I have never seen a so violent an attack so quickly in a thread ... No justification is necessary, it is the interdurr but .. really? Just cuz?
-
What professionally made poster would say "IN JULY 3 - 2010" as if they had made a cut-and-paste error?
-
...with all the shit about Pirates this week (which i saw twice on wednesday and liked) this bullshit brings in to full relief the transgressions of the makers of this turd. Pirates is of itself, it doesn't pretend to be anything it's not and is very rewarding to it's fans. this hunk of shit makes me wanna puke. it will never get my money. ever ever ever.
-
This comes out the day before my birthday, I was born 'in' the fourth of july! But yeah this poster is POOR.
-
because that would make sense .. I don't like things that don't make sense .. ever ..
-
"IN July 3" ? Movie posters for films of this size are not produced in house these days - they go through INCREDIBLE scrutiny before they're released, because the reputation of the company responsible is on the line - and those companies have to submit multiple iterations of designs to the studio brass. Can't believe anyone at any level would let "In July 3" slide.
-
Thats so yesterday's design. Sorry, it tries to look cool, but it just doesn't. Refine please.
-
out of everything to freak out about in film today...you're picking a teaser poster for a film not many people have much faith in as it is.
-
I'm just completely unsure what this is supposed to signify. And what's with the two completely different fabric weaves blending in to one another? Textilely unlikely. The ragged, bleeding tears, with no skin or flesh beneath them? Agreed. Sucks. Fire this douchebag's ass.
-
That is so obviously fake. Which is kinda odd. Most times the fakes are better than the real ones.
-
If it was real it would say "Summer 2012"
-
I thought they didn't have anything to do with this. Does that mean The Avengers may show up?
-
The site Total Film links to is hilarious. Says the film is written by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko. Come on, people... all it takes is enough brain power to click a link!
-
phew.

-
That's just awful. It's so awful it's not even funny. They'd have been better off using the pic of Spidey from the teaser image from a few months ago (the one with Spidey swinging into the camera). This is just stupid.
-
It's not a surprise he doesn't know "In July 3" make no sense. Also it says, "Also in 2D in selected theatres." Are 3D and IMAX theaters the norm now and 2D gets designated as "selected?" I don't think so. And Spider-Man isn't Marvel Studios is it?
-

by IWasInJuniorHighDickhead
-
people like that cotton candy over the top perfect crap. They eat it up. Sony .. really?! Thor made me believe the thing I was watching on the screen was powerful and that is what sold it for me. Never in any of the Spider-man movies did I believe he was a super hero. The swinging was impressive but the fighting was done wrong. The CG impossible fights actually made more sense but were still wrong.
-
May 22, 2011, 2:11 p.m. CST
Wouldn't it be cool if the Avenger's showed up in the credits!
by SamBlackChvrch21
Ah-hem.
-
1st clue is the Marvel Studios name at the top. Marvel would be credited on the poster for sure like they did on the bottom because it's a Marvel character. However, Marvel Studios is not making the film. Columbia Pictures/Sony is. Marvel doesn't have the movie rights. 2nd clue is the typo on the bottom which you can see in the higher res versions. It says "for more info FO to" instead of "for more info GO to". Fake!
-
Really boring. I cannot discern what the background is supposed to be other than some sort of mixture of scales and spider suit. The font isn't god-awful but it doesn't inspire much either. Here's hoping an actual teaser is released soon after this to get the bad taste out.
-
Have to assume it's a fake since it says "In July 3, 2012". I doubt the studio would release it with an error like having that "In" in there. It can either be In July, 2012 or July 3, 2012. Cant be both.
-
If this was the real teaser poster it would have an official announcement and release with it not some crappy release like this. Even if it leaked the studio would have commented on it by now. Fake.
-
This might be one of the most blatantly fake posters in a long time. Even the "logo" looks horrible. Why bother running this as a legit "story/news" unless you're looking for hits. Kinda shameful...
-
I'm surprised that AICN even ran this. 'The Amazing Spider-Man' isn't a Marvel Studios production and it doesn't take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I'm surprised no one has brought this up. It's a Sony movie with the rights to use the character. That is all. I *WISH* that Marvel Studios had the rights to Spidey and the X-Men rights from Fox to introduce them into the MCU.
-
May 22, 2011, 2:17 p.m. CST
Yep, totally fake and I didn't even need to go to the source.
by Orbots Commander
Like magicmikassa says, one look at the poster and it screams 'fake'. Marvel Studios doesn't own the film rights to Spider-Man, and the typos on a purported big studio film poster.
-

-

Not sure if I'm more offended by the poster, or how gullible Harry is
by Epsilon
Seriously, did anyone need more than 10 seconds of looking at it to know it's fake? It's like one of those photos where you have to find the 5 things wrong with it in under 30 seconds.
-
I just spelled it like it was pronounced "SOT-ted."
-
"IN JULY 3"? Seriously... did you not notice that, Harry?
-
Where are all of Harry's connections these days. This site doesn't really garner many scoops.
-
They just can't afford the printer and paper to print it.
-
But maybe it will lead sony to actually put out a real poster
-
May 22, 2011, 2:30 p.m. CST
This is SO obviously fake. Can't believe Harry posted this.
by Ironhelix
-
Yeah I can't wait for the movie rights to get back to Marvel. Let's hope that when they do Marvel Studios is still going strong. X-Men, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, Daredevil...imagine the greatness! They did get Punisher back at least, but unfortunately he'd be a better mix with Spider-Man or Daredevil than any of the characters Marvel Studios has.
-
It could work, I enjoyed Frank dabbling with the hero's during the Civil War storyline.
-
May 22, 2011, 2:55 p.m. CST
It would be easy to assume this is 110% fake, except...
by You Have MY Voice
...those X-MEN: FIRST CLASS posters were pretty shitty, too. So it's not impossible Marvel would sanction a shitty teaser poster. Still, it's probably a fake, but you never know...
-

Looks like someone just scanned a bloody piece of gauze at high resolution
by Kamaji
-
That should give it away right there. Sony still has the rights to Spider-Man, so this film is being made outside of the Marvel Studios universe. There's no doubting this is a fake.
-
I'm waiting for the 3 paragraph essay on how he was scarred as a child by something he didn't like.
-
but, seriously...how did you not see how fake this was?
-
MARVEL Studios is not financing, producing, or distributing this film.
-
...to turn on the all the layers in either Photoshop, inDesign or whatever program they were using to make this. I'm guessing they used a ten year old pc and Microsoft Paint. It is maddening what some idiots in the studio promotion departments will do these days. Directors who have little or no control over the promotion of their movie should rethink their contracts. I hope the director didn't sign off on this. From what I've seen, this movie does have promise.
-
Would it have been a chore to use the old school comic font with some webbing around it? No of course not...it would have taken 20 seconds but THIS is what a studio deems worthy?! WHAT THE FUCK YOU FUCKING FUCKFACED FUCKERS!?
-
May 22, 2011, 3:27 p.m. CST
"Also in 2D at selected theaters" IS the standard with 3D films now.
by Subtitles_Off
THOR came with the same verbage. The poster's a fake, though. A peculiarly obvious, unimaginative fake. Maybe they're trying to deflect from the real one which will be pretty awful, too, not just as awful-awful as this one. Thereby, they'll have a bunch of posters typing s#!t like, "I thought this was going to be terrible from the first teaser poster, but it looks like they really listened to the fans and now they're getting their act together. Things are turning around on this one. I have faith in the smell of my own farts." You know...the usual.
-
Wait, so after Cap & Avengers, this'll be the 6th Marvel Studios flick?
-
Cause in the first second that I looked at it, I just had to read "Marvel Studios" to know that this is bogus. Sony is putting out Spider-Man a HUGE cash cow for them. You think they are NOT going to put their name on it? Or have some other studio put their name on in place of?
-
...it seems like posters have gotten so bad lately they don't even feel amateur anymore. I mean, a LOT of armchair designers could design a LOT better than this. This doesn't even hint at what the movie is other than the title. Are those tears in the fabric or leopard spots? Truly, truly awfuly. Makes one yearn for the "golden age" of terrible Fox Studios posters. Fire these fuckers. They're probably making 100k a year to design this garbage.
-
Badly thought out, lousy background, rotten composition, lame logo. Thing is I reckon this film will be an absolute corker. Marvel are on a hot run, there's an awesome back catalogue of stories to pull from and the cast looks froot. I just hope to buggery they re-do this lame effort of a poster and pull it faster than Your Highness got pulled from theatres.
-
Heh heh heh
-
To the taint that designed this, you better be 12 years old for your sake. If not, I hope you have other career aspirations.
-
...it's like that and like this and like that and uh...
-
spider man is not a marvel studios property. you fucking retard. seriously. this site blows. this was fucking news. you guys are reaching at shit now.

by Subtitles_Off
That's kind of charming, actually.
-
We don't dignify absurdities with coverage.
-
It's not a Marvel Studios film. It's fake. Hopefully, though, given the Dark Knight Rises ramping up, this fake poster, will prompt some serious marketing for The Amazing Spider-Man rather shortly.
-
I've been a massive Spider-man fan since I was 8 years old and I loved the first two Raimi films. I'm usually willing to give people the benefit of the doubt, but Sony is going out of its way to make me hate this movie. Mission accomplished.
-
Because Emo Spider-Man won't be dancing around chocolate cake girl or crying over Mary Jane ?
-
Very boring in fact! I hope it's a fake.
-
Let's make sure they look overblown and outrageous like the last couple. This does exactly what its supposed to do...let people know that something different is coming. New Font, New name (hyphenated), and no dancing on a table. Let minimalism rule.
-
You're going to be in theaters the first second it's released. It's not like you have a girlfriend...so you can't be somewhere getting laid.
-
Good seeing you around. How you doing?
-
How? A few things. 1. The fact it says Marvel Studios and not Sony. 2. The shitty font. It's not consistent. Graphic artists DO use style guides for texts believe it or not. Each line is a different font. Sony will likely use the new font they're pushing for their new line of products such as the NGP as they did with the Ps3 and spidey 1 2 and 3. 3. 'In July 3' c'mon wtf? No real Spidey symbol. No colours. They won't go the 'all black' route.
-
It says marvel studios. Derp.
-
with the MARVEL STUDIOS logo on it.
-
with the MARVEL STUDIOS logo on it.
-
How many of your favorite tee-shirts have got new baby burp-up stains on them by now?
-
You'll believe a boy can be spiderly. Or a spider can be manly. Scratch that... This IMAX. In July 3D. We turn the dark on.
-
Well, not really. Pretty awful. It's a notch better than those horrific X-Men First Class posters. Marvel must have Stan Lee's grandkid in the promo dept. or something.
-
May 22, 2011, 4:40 p.m. CST
Try putting just 'July 3rd 2012' mister poster faker guy, or try just leaving things alone instead.
by Arkhaminmate001
-
It has to be. No art director would allow a logo with such glaring kerning mistakes to get by. "Kerning." Google it.
-
We all expected something completely different when imagining what the teaser poster might look like. When it surfaced, it was nothing like we expected. For this particular franchise, that metaphor is going to be necessary for success. I enjoyed the last 3 films (some more than others), and I have the feeling Sony is flipping the script on this one. (Think "Batman & Robin" vs "Batman Begins". Same universe, different take.) For me, this poster is a good sign that things will be taken in a different direction this time out. Often, we (as fans) can't see the bigger picture of why studios/directors make dumfounding decisions. I remember trying to figure out why on earth Nolan cast Heath Ledger as the joker when the news was first announced. Well, now I know why. So, I love the poster.
-
This is either fake, or someone really needed to get fired. Really everything has been pointed out already.... it's crappy and naff and full of mistakes.
-
None More Black....
-
we are going to eat the boys. we start with shivering anticipation, then we work our way to the scrotum, and soon we have consumed them all. these are spiderman's balls. mutated, evolved, engorged with egg sacks that we ponies enjoy so much. give us a poster, let us eat it. give us the movie, let us excrete at its feet. this year, the ponies will come.
-
I thought they booed it. I'll never understand The French. By the way, did all you anti-Francophiles know that The Cold War was truly won by a Frenchman and a Communist? Not by Ronnie Reagan? It's true. It's true. Watch FAREWELL, if you don't believe me.
-
BORING! Well, I know a movie-Title, that would fit this BG: "BloodStain". But seriously, Spiderman? this isn't amazing at all and if they do the rest of the Movie as underwhelming as this, they're really losing the Fans for this. A fitting teaser, would be a close-up on a easily-recogn izeable part of the suit, like the Logo, the Gloves(maybe with a piece of web) ot an eye, even the back-Logo of the Suit would be worlds-better than this. Well, my last word for this Poster: L A M E !
-
mattman, before referencing the IMDb, you maybe should have read the whole thing: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0948470/faq#.2.1.47

i have a feeling that the story of spiderman only has one really good movie in it, and i think they already made it.

Poor, poor, poor Harry. You really got punked bad on this one. Actually the punk itself was pretty weak. But you taking the bait and making yourself look bad? Ouchie. How soon before this entire post gets deleted? Wish it away, Harry. Wish it away to the cornfields.

Andrew Garfield can act. He was the 2nd best thing in that Aaron sorkin story about the guy from twitter.
-
Anyone?
-
I think it's part of Spidey's torso, with scratches from The Lizard, or Lizard-Man, or Crocodillio, or whatever. Except, where there should be skin showing, if that were the case, there's just black stains. Maybe it is skid-marks. In which case, it's meant to imply Crocodillio scared the crap out of Spider-man who stained his sparkly fibers.

-
Marvel Studios isn't making Spiderman movies, Sony has the rights. I figured that out after 1.23 seconds. Why do you suck at everything Harry?
-
it's "ok." It's just a teaser. That's all. Font is fine. Remember, the title is "The Amazing Spider-Man" so the artist is focusing on the title. No images needed. Did you see "The Avengers" teaser poster? Same idea.
-
I was driving down the boulevard, IN JULY 3RD, scoping all the hotties dressed so-fine, IN JULY 3RD. When I found one that smiled back at me, I pulled over and asked to get IN JULY 3RD. She slapped my face.

-
Nothing I have seen apart from shot of Peter and Gwen have looked particularly good. They have fucked up the costume royally, and this poster goes right along with that.
-
...hoping it's 100 times better than the dreadful Raimi trilogy.
-
Jeebus Christo, you need to have something to bitch about, I guess. The logo is fine. The font is fine (MILES better than the font of Raimi's films- you CAN NOT tell me you preferred that font to this). The background is meh. Then again, if its real, its just a teaser poster. And a lame one at that.
-
Because MARVEL STUDIOS isn't doing Spider-Man, Sony still is. Right?

Thought Sony still controlled Spidey? When did Marvel Studios get the rights?
by Andrew Coleman
It must be fake right? I thought Sony pushed production on this so Marvel wouldn't get Spider-man. Like Fox with X-Men.
-
the difference between what you like and what you don't is so arbitrary that this could have gone either direction. There was every chance in the world you would have praised them for going so "daringly simplistic" with it. So cool your jets and don't be so damn judgmental until a) its official and b) they put out something that is intended to be cool.
-
It says IN JULY. This was obviously done by a non-english speaker.
-
Seriously? It says "Marvel STUDIOS" on it and everyone knows it's not a Marvel STUDIOS film! How could this make anyone insane? It's clearly not real. Also, "IN" July 3? IN? It doesn't even have anything spider-related on it at all! How could this possibly be considered real enough to warrant a post by anyone who knows anything about the business?
-
Fucking stupid post by the owner of the site to draw in clicks to keep advertisers, way to go butt load

by schulzcreative
Jesus Christ on a pogo stick, Harry. A simple calendar check will show July 3. 2012 falls on a Tuesday. When was the last time a major motion picture opened on a Tuesday? This fake poster obviously made by a non-English speaking non-movie industry fanboy could have been figured out in one minute.

Marvel Studio's I'll try to explain. Hope this isn't to confusing.
by MRJONZ72
Hope this doesnt sound too confusing, there is Marvel Studios that co-produces TV shows and films with other studios Sony, Fox, New Line etc (Spiderman, FF, X-men, Blade, Ghost Rider, Electra etc.. it seems like they have very little to no control over those TVshows and films. and then you have Marvel Studios that started doing independant films on completely on thier own dime with 2008's Iron Man and those films they have complete control over, they get other studios to distrubted those films, Paramount (IM 1 and 2, Thor and Cap) Universal (TIH). Deals were in place for Paramount to distrubite Thor and Cap before Disney bought out Marvel. The first film Disney will distrubite is The Avengers. So technically I guess Sony/Columbia can put the Marvel Studios logo on the top of the TAS logo. If you go and watch the credits on a lot of movies that they are only a co-producer you will see Marvel Studios in the credit, expect to see it in X-men here in a couple of weeks. but I think on all the movies that Marvel Studios is only a co-producer on the posters just say Marvel not Marvel Studios. Also as a lot of folks have said the poster says "In July 2012" I know it can be a touch confusing.

Obviously, the background is a blown-up section of that Catwoman suit from the other hot picture of the weekend.

Harry! They're releasing a photo of Catwoman in July 3!
by CHRISTIAN_BALE_TRASHED_MY_LIGHTS
You wanna see it, right?
-
Marvel Studios is merely a co producer on this one, so poster's a fake.
-
That can't be the real poster. Uh I mean Wow um uh yeah that's ridiculously terrible.
-
I still can't believe that's real. I mean what the heck is that supposed to be! That's beyond pathetic.
-
That's all this movie will be. I so so damn sick of remakes and reboots! Hollywood is near devoid of talent now.
-
an illuminati demon hellbent on destroying all examples of heroism and rising above the herd. Probably the same cunt who pulled wonder woman. No can't have a positive female role model performing unique deeds- that might empower Americans to not want to be slaves. Just give me my fucking check already
-
That might have been the case for a film that wasn't locked into a release date in advance. In fact, many tentpole films are locked into a release date before filming even starts. But the mere fact that it says "IN" instead of "ON" (or simply just "JULY 3 2012"), coupled with the British spelling "THEATRES", leads me to conclude it is a fan-made fake. Sorry gang. Besides, we already know it is coming out next summer. What's the point of jizzing in our pants if a teaser poster comes out? It's certainly not some big announcement. We already know it is coming and have seen production pics by now.
-
What about that crappy Catwoman fetish cosplay pic someone took on their iPhone?
-
A little late to the party here, so I'm sure someone's already made the joke in the talkback somehwere

Oh my god, that is fucking hysterical... Yes, um, clearly the work of a 13-year old living in some country other than the U.S. Stay in school, though, kid.

First of all Spiderman is not a Marvel Studios film! It would be promoted the same way as the @#$ original spiderman.. It's a Sony film.. No ways it would try and promote it as a Marvel Studios film.. And this is not going to be how they are going to promote the Spiderman movie. Not with that crappy a poster. Come on! Give Sony alil more credit than that. After all the -- oh- omg, I'm not even going to go there.. Come on.. Please before the entire website collapses or implodes on itself just from sheer suckiness! I can't even formulate proper sentences! It's spreading!

are producing this if it's supposed to be Sony? Maybe it's a joint production. Hey how come any of you care? Oh.. Oh yeah. Nerds from hell. Gotcha
-
That some fan without many resources would come up with something this unimaginative or that a big studio would use this crap to market their biggest project? That's what I thought.

by AsimovLives
Jesus Gay-Ass Christ, give me a break, will you?

Marvel paid Sony to bring it under the Marvel Studios imprint. Its a production by Marvel with Sony as distribution. If I remember correctly, the deal said that it allowed Sony to make more money than they would had they been the sole distributor of the film.

Sony Scared Shitless About Reaction To The Costume
by Grinning White Skull
Sony isn't releasing a decent poster because they are terrified of the reaction to the gawd-awful suit in ANY poster. What was that other poster running around (was it official?), the one with Spidey and the stone gargoyle? They kept as much of the costume in the dark and shadows as possible. Normally, with a decent costume design, this would be moody and cool. But it ain't a decent costume. Let's face facts. The PRODUCERS are ruining, I mean, running this film show like the PRODUCERS of the Broadway show did and they have no real GENUINE geek love for the comic character or material outside of USING IT to make a buck. None of Raimi's love and KNOWLEDGE is in this. This film is BATMAN AND ROBIN meets TWILIGHT. Producers chasing after the success of other films while hoping to sell a lot of toys.

That is the dead give away it's fake.

Maybe Gwen Stacy's Tampax sprung a leak? Bad sign of things to come. Not looking forward to this fucking unnecessary reboot...

It's easy to tell that this is fake/amateur just by looking at the words "the amazing". You don't spread out lower case. On the other hand, you can find plenty of shoddy photoshopping on some movie posters as well.
