Cannes bans Von Trier for inappropriate press humor...

Hey folks, Harry here...  I'm not the biggest champion for Lars Von Trier, I think he's immensely talented as a filmmaker, but I've never really liked the man as I've seen him through interviews and appearances.  But today I woke up to find Lars Von Trier banned for this:

Now - seems to me that Von Trier was attempting to tell an awkward and embarrassing story about discovering that his parents were Nazis during the war...  and so he is in fact a Nazi by birthright and has attempted to reconcile this embarrassing bit of family history.   But as Lars got some awkward laughs, he continued to let the mouth flap - next thing ya know, he's understanding Hitler.   Which I don't feel is a remark that should get one banned from Cannes...   He wasn't saying that he understood why Hitler embarked upon the Holocaust & WWII, but if you pay attention, he said he understood Hitler there at the end in the bunker...   which was a joke about wanting to commit suicide, which I feel was the feeling he felt while telling this errant story.   Right?

OR - are we to take him at face value, Lars Von Triers is a self-proclaimed Nazi.   This whole story kind of drives me crazy.   But I felt y'all should be given a forum to discuss this.   Here's the latest from the LA TIMES
