Will Ferrell And Mark Wahlberg Take A Dive In The TURKEY BOWL!

Published at: May 18, 2011, 6:20 a.m. CST by Nordling

Nordling here.

I liked Adam McKay's THE OTHER GUYS - it's no ANCHORMAN, but what is, really - mostly due to the chemistry between Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell.  I think Farrell brought out Wahlberg's goofy side, because Wahlberg's pretty funny in it.  Now it looks like we may see them onscreen again in Warner Bros. TURKEY BOWL, according to Deadline.

In TURKEY BOWL, Farrell and Wahlberg play rival football (American) captains from two game-obsessed towns who face off for bragging rights.  This premise reminds me of THE BEST OF TIMES, a 1980s football movie starring Kurt Russell and Robin Williams, although those two were on the same team.  Alec Baldwin will be playing Wahlberg's dad, and it's going to be written by Robert Carlock (30 ROCK) with Scott Silveri.  No word on who will direct yet, but Adam McKay is set to produce, along with Ferrell and Chris Henchy.

So who wins, Farrell or Wahlberg?  We'll see sometime next year.

Nordling, out.

    by AdrianVeidt

I could pick any name, really, but at its heart it is some kind of ridiculous sports movie. (Ridiculous in a funny, McKay-like way.) The Other Guys had its moments that were funny, but for the most part was more weird goofy than funny goofy. Although The Rock and SLJ jumping off a building "aiming for that tree" was fantastic.

The Other Guys could've been good, but it wasn't

    by Cobb05

The problem was that the movie had no plot and things just seemed very random. It could've been a very good movie if there was an actual plot. I mean yeah, there was the whole thing about the pay roll and investing the money and all that, but it was all over the place. As for Turkey Bowl, it does sound like The Best of Times. If they can load up the teams with a lot of great comedians and actors, it should be a good movie. Adam McKay works better with a very broad idea. A sports movie doesn't need a plot, so this could work.

    by Behemoth

Come on, it's been out for decades now. The spoiler warning period is LONG SINCE over. Screw you and your kind's narcissistic sense of spoiler-free entitlement for an ancient movie that you'll "get around to seeing" one day. Besides, the only thing that ruined "Other Guys" is the script, the direction, the lack of funny. So consider yourself spared the loss of two precious hours of your life.

But there, you see, is the irony. America has chosen to mock soccer by naming the world's greatest game "football." Although, kicking does have an important place in the game, you are correct - it is far less about feet, the daintiest of body parts, than it is about power, strategy, brute force mixed with artistry. It was only named "football" because of its creators' insatiable desire to mock their inferiors. But seriously, one must only look at the respective sports' defenders in this conversation to understand my point. In defense of soccer, we have "sugar tits." In defense of FOOTBALL, we have THE BEHEMOTH. My point is made. In any case, I applaud your efforts and I acknowledge your right to the enjoyment of watching hair-covered she-apes frolic about an expanse of grass for hour upon hour in their tiny shorts, endlessly running to and fro like coked-up ballerinas hungry for schlong. Whenver I see it, I smile at it, as the evolved human smiles at the dung flinging chimp. And then I change the channel.

You are one of the very few. Take comfort in the fact, though, that, ironically, this makes you one of the MANY who suffer from retardation of the humor lobe. The good news is that a tazer blast to the taint clears this up in 65 percent of the cases. You are also one of the MANY who ask questions on sites like this starting with the phrase (or something similar): "Am I the only one who [fill in 'going against the grain' statement here]?" So, cheer up. Ferrell sheds not a tear for your ignorance, just as the fully-evolved human does not get angry when insulted by the mentally challenged or those who have been lobotomized.

American football is "rugby for pussies"? If rugby had the collisions that American football has, people would DIE. A corpse on the field would be a common occurrence. And those "pussies" in the NFL could dominate and own any rugby player, they would throw them around like a rag doll. There are numerous players in the NFL that outweigh even a big rugby player by 75 to 100 pounds, are way way stronger, AND significantly quicker and faster. How about this, you can run your mouth and talk shit when ONE rugby player stars in the NFL. Just one. Won't happen, ever.

Firstly, no Rugby Football equals no American Football, PERIOD. Yes, Rugby players are 75/100lbs smaller, but Rugby doesn't have ROLLING subs throughout the game. The 300 pounders have to run aroung for 80 minutes, unless subbed (7 subs for 15 players), tackle, carry (rush) etc. Football collisions are bigger, but there are more in Rugby. youtube it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7tGY-VDx3o Also check Irish golfer Harrington doing the ''Happy Gilmore swing''. Shit actually works. Football tackles are 3 times more powerful than Rugby (more padding, take a breather after hit), while Rugby players make 5 times more tackles/hits. I could go on, but while Football has been pro for decades, Rugby has only been pro 16 years, and in that time the average player size has increased exponentially. Give it the same time as NFL and they'll be as big and fast. I love me some NFL but compared to Rugby thank fuck for TEVO. Football plays like it was created by a fucking advertisement company. 'Hey, I know, when the ball hits the deck we go to commercial.' 'How often does it hit the deck, bud?' 'Shit, we're in the money.'

America hasn't made a funny comedy movie in decades.

  • That's the deal. I laughed my ass off the first time I saw the Hangover, but found that it was decidedly less funny on second viewing. Lots of comedies just don't hold up to multiple screenings. For me at least, the 80s was the last decade packed with REWATCHABLE comedies. That's not to say that great comedies haven't been produced in the 20+ years since, but many of them just aren't as funny the 2nd time around.

Will Ferrell makes me laugh. And sometimes he just falls totally flat. He had a few moments in The Other Guys, but that movie was so utterly dissapointing to me, I was expecting something entirely epically hilariously over the top funny with Adam McKay, especially after how amazing Step Brothers was. Step Brothers is without a doubt my favorite Ferrell movie, I can watch it any time and laugh. The extras on the blu-ray are amazing and just as hilarious as the movie. Anchorman and Old School get me laughing. He was pretty funny in The Producers. His cameo's in Wedding Crashers, and the Goods were great. I didn't really mind Land of the Lost. Elf was pretty tolerable for a holiday movie. Aside from that he's kinda been meh...his random internet videos/talk show appearances are usually hilariously random. I hope this new movie idea brings out the funny...with it being football I kinda have a feeling it'll fall into the falling flat category for me.

I don't normally like Will OR Marky-Mark (The Big Hit is great fun, though), but I thought the director on Other Guys kept Will toned down and amped up Mark. It balanced a weird line between movie-world realism and absurdism. It was a strange feeling film, but it made me laugh.

I would LOVE to pitch these guys a great idea for a movie!

Sometimes, I wish I had just ONE Hollywood connection. I have an idea that could ROCK for these guys. And I'd love to set it in motion.
