THE TREE OF LIFE Reactions Are In...

Nordling here.

I'm not going to read a single Cannes review of this film until I'm comfortable with my own.  Not for fear of spoilers - I don't think you can really spoil THE TREE OF LIFE - but because I don't want other critics' reactions to affect me.  This is one of my most anticipated films of the year, and I see it later today.  I'm embargoed until June when it opens, and I'm actually thankful for the lead time - I want to think about Terrence Malick's film for a bit and let it sit with me.  This isn't a film that I can just write a review to and be done with it; judging from the trailers alone I can tell I'm going to have a very personal reaction to this film and I want to let it coalesce over the next week or so.

In the meantime, if you can't wait, there's early word about today's screening, and if you're curious what the reaction at Cannes was, you can check them out at the following links:

Here's Drew McWeeny's review.  I didn't make it past the headline.

Here's Empire Online's first reaction.

Here's Hollywood Reporter's.

Here's Huffington Post's.

And here's The Guardian UK's.

I am really excited about seeing it this afternoon; I hope that it affects me the way that the wonderful trailer did.  If you haven't seen the trailer yet, it's practically a piece of art in itself.

THE TREE OF LIFE opens wide June 10, 2011.  Nordling, out.
