The Current Slate For Tim Burton

Unfortunately this isn't the sort of happy news you good folks want to hear. However, personally, I'd rather Tim take a year to find a very personal project... perhaps sketch... write... watch old movies... read strange poems, collect shrunken heads... whatever it is a Tim Burton does to be such a friggin brilliant cool film maker. Now... That being said... the last rumor I heard about Tim and a future project, was that he was circling the ASTROBOY film... but at least according to this interview... he's not doing it.

Greetings from warm and sunny London.

Tim Burton appeared at the National Film Theatre on the South Bank last night (06.01.00) in an hour long interview with Mark Kermode (after a preview screening of Sleepy Hollow).

In amongst the usual Disney anecdotes and Johnny Depp ramblings the following was revealed:

The Superman project is well and truly buried - although Mr Burton believes someone else is sure to pick it up as soon as the fast food toy deals are signed and sealed.

The Conversations with Vincent Price project needs reworking - so don't hold your breath waiting for it.

Tim has NO further films in the pipeline (despite the many internet rumours) and, in fact, envisions a quiet year ahead enjoying the fuss around Sleepy Hollow.

Unfortunately, there also seems to be little truth in the rumours surrounding a book celebrating the art of Tim Burton - unless it's being brought out without his knowledge.

I think that's pretty much all the important geeky stuff. Lots of other tittle tattle if anyone's interested - in all a great night.

Ta ra for now.

Michael-Jason Hobbs (London).
