Our First Shot Of ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER!

Nordling here.

I really enjoyed Seth Grahame-Smith's ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER.  The book is as historically accurate as is possible for a book that imagines President Lincoln as an axe-wielding kick-ass slayer of the undead can be, and it's a lot of fun to boot.  Timur Bekmambetov (WANTED) is filming it now, to be released next summer, but the New York Times has a look at what we may expect in this adaptation.

Benjamin Walker plays the titular character, who discovers early in life that many of the events of American history have been orchestrated by the undead, and he decides to dedicate his life to fighting them any way he can.  Mary Elizabeth Winstead plays his wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, and the film is being produced by Bakmambetov, Tim Burton, and Jim Lemley.

This is starting to sound like a fairly big production for 20th Century Fox - it's budgeted at $70 million, not huge, but not chicken feed either - and I hope they don't tame down the violence and the gore of the piece for a wider audience.  Bekmambetov says that the vampires will look "unexpected," which could mean anything.  We've seen all sorts of vampires in film over the years, so coming up with something original will be difficult.  In the meantime, the book is a fun, scary read, and I'd recommend you pick it up.  Go to the New York Times article for more behind the scenes information.  ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER will be released June, 2012.

Nordling, out.
