DYLAN DOG director Kevin Munroe is bringing the film for an AICN / FANTASTIC FEST Screening - Here's how to get in...
Hey folks, Harry here... Couple years back we brought in Kevin Munroe for a special screening of TMNT, the cgi Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie that was a whole lot of fun. Now, Kevin is coming back with a really cool monsters & superhero movie based upon the classic international comic character, Dylan Dog. Who came about out of the 1980's Italian comic book world, whose artists were watching great Fulci & Bava & Argento flicks and making a superhero to battle it all. This book is all kinds of cool! How cool?
The author of THE NAME OF THE ROSE, Umberto Eco said, "I can read the BIBLE, Homer or DYLAN DOG for several days without being bored." and if you've bought Dark Horse's compilations you'll agree. They've been expertly translated and are AWESOME! In interest of full disclosure, I got that quote from Wiki.
So - how is DYLAN DOG? We'll see this Thursday, April 28th at the Alamo Drafthouse South at 7:30pm with director Kevin Munroe returning to show off the flick! I so can not wait! Look at this image...

That's SUPERMAN beating up a big bad! And after this movie I hope to look at that photo and say, "That's DYLAN DOG!"
I don't know about you but I'm a fan of Brandon Routh's. I loved his gay character in ZACK & MIRI MAKE A PORNO. Loved him as SUPERMAN. And as the vegan god from SCOTT PILGRIM VS THE WORLD... I'm totally in the mood for this and I'm rooting like crazy for Kevin.
SO - how do you join us?
Send an email to HK at AintitCool.com with the exact subject line:
I want to see DYLAN DOG now!
In the body of that email put your full name and that of up to 2 friends - BUT - I also want to know the answer to the following two questions from each member of the submission... Those that don't follow that rule get discarded.
Who or What is your favorite all-time Monster?
Who is your favorite all-time Monster Slayer?
Let's load this up with people that have thought about that. ALSO - Kevin is bringing some DYLAN DOG swag for a contest we're having with this screening. There will be multiple prizes - but the best Monster Costumed folks will very likely be walking away with something that could be a prop, something autographed or actually magical. (one of those is highly unlikely)
I'm giving you till Friday Night to get the answers and names of your party together and sent to me. (Midnight Friday Night) I'll post the winners this Saturday!!!
See ya there!!!

How to see DYLAN DOG with director Kevin Munroe at an AICN / Fantastic Fest dealio!!!
-
This movie is gonna fail no matter how you look at it. Hardcore Dylan Dog fans are already complaining that they're refusing to see it & non-fans will probably choose something else because neither Routh nor Dylan Dog are household names. I'm not badmouthing the film nor will I say it sucks without seeing it for myself, but that's just how I see the fate of the film playing out. I might watch it because I've already seen everything worth seeing that's out right now & I don't see myself paying money to see Rio, The Conspirator or Hop & I'd rather gouge my eyes out with a rusty nail than sit through 10 seconds of anything to do with Madea. And if the movie sucks, at least I'm only out $4.

It has it's moments. That's about all i can say about it.
-
Go expecting a forgettable, half-decent time with above average practical make-up FX, and you should be alright.
-
Shaw from Chuck fighting Skip from Angel?
-
So when can we expect to have advertisements for "Dylan Dog" take over the site?
-
why does that thing look like skip from Angel. hilarious.

Wow this one pic already has what Superman Returns was deperately missing...
by qweruiop
....which was Superman actually punching someone. Can you imagine how much infinitely better that movie would have been if Superman actually went toe-to-toe with someone? Damn shame that Routh is doing it now within this low-budget off-season flick, rather than the mega-budget summer blockbuster that Superman Returns should have been.

This will end up making less money than Atlas Shrugged.

TMNT was really fun, and there's never gonna be a 'Supernatural' movie, so...
by Lex Lybrand
Dead of Night looks awesome to me. Really, the only thing that seems 'low rent' about the trailer is the VO line "in the city that loves to PARTY." Sorta sounds like Trey Parker is reading that line, imo.
-
So bad, in fact, that when an advertisement for it -- not even a trailer, mind you, but one of those pre-trailer ads -- was shown before a movie the other night, my wife didn't believe it was a real movie. That's a bummer, though, because I'm all for these types of cheesy fantasy/sci-fi, even if they're poorly made.
-
I'm sure it'll be mediocre at best and I know there's a good chance I'll hate it, but I'm seeing it opening night anyway. No idea why I'm so anxious to see this flick. I like Brandon Routh and anything horror related, so maybe that's it, but I usually try to avoid situations where I know the movie will be shitty.

Harry, if I attend, will my witnessing be kind of astonishing?
by CHRISTIAN_BALE_TRASHED_MY_LIGHTS
It's sort of a deal breaker with me. Let me know, buddy.

There's nothing else out really revving my motor, and I just like Routh. He's a little wooden at times, but he always comes off as likeable in the films I see him in. This movie has had absolutely no PR aside from some late night advertisements on Adult Swim, so I'm hoping it'll at least break even.
-
The effects look really bad. I don't get why this movie is getting such a big push. I'm seeing the trailer all over tv. I don't see how this will do well.
-
For shame.
-
Didn't even hear about this until a few weeks ago, and I cannot wait to see it. I actually liked that TMNT movie, and Routh looks like a badass in this.
-
Though I have no idea if their standards differ from those of American critics at all.
-
Beside James Marsden there are is no one more deserving to get a second shot at playing an Iconic Superhero.
-
im amazed this even got made - i only recently read the dark horse collection - love it - it looks and reads like a movie in great storyboard form - ill see anything like this being there are so few of these specific types of flicks made - zombies, demons, monsters - more please
-
i still like superman returns - but i watched it again the other night and realized... its a chick flick - a great one, but still - in it we see superman fight his soul, his ego, an air plane, a city thats falling apart... but id love to see him fight a real adversary - a real threat - thank god for the cartoons
-
I get it "talkbackers" typically aren't all that positive, but I'm hoping this flick will be a fun escape and from the looks of it, that's exactly what it is. I dug TMNT, so w/e Munroe has up his sleeves I'm down for. Can't wait to catch the flick.
-
I don't care if it's based off an existing comic. This will tank, and a lot of that will based on the terrible, terrible title. Should have renamed it.
-
Make it happen!
-
Dean Winchester was my answer to question #2 in this email challenge. Or, should I say SHERIFF Dean Winchester? :)
-
When you say you are gonna announce winners on Saturday, you actually do that.
-
anyone that "dabbles" in being gay - is in fact gay - no one "tries it out" to see if they like it - you know what orientation you are by what you like to jack off too - if you think of guys fucking when you jack off, you are a homosexual - a gay friend told me - i asked him when did he really know for sure that he was gay - he said when he was about 13 and the thought of man on man sex made him want to masturbate - makes sense - thats how i knew i was straight when i was a kid - whatever makes you want to beat it is a good barometer - and i cant wait to see this movie
-
Yeah, gotta say that the TV spot I've seen makes it look like a Syfy channel original movie. That demon looks like it's straight out of any random episode of "Angel."

So Harry is two days late. Wonder what he's gonna blame it on?
by SierraTangoFoxtrotUniform
His fat rehab? Computer issues? Insomnia? Fatass always has an excuse.
-
First of all it was in London Second, where is his sidekick Groucho. Third, where is Inspector Block Fourth, it looks too silly! What a shame... The comic is a real classic
-
I saw a test screening months ago. It's one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The Werewolf Makeup looks like it's from the 80s, it's literally a guy in a mask. The Vampires are called "True Bloods" and hang out in nightclubs. There's a few shots of the worst stuntman ever (worse than Breakin 2)... it's just a mess. Nothing to do with the comic, either.
-
very good web, believe you will love it. FREE SHIPPING,accept paypal discount evisu jeans, watches shirts, bags, hat and the decorations trust me! Quickly snapping up right

sounds a lot better than CGI.

What has happened to nerds? Some have become bitter and selfhating
by Andrew Coleman
To me this goofy movie looks cool. It used to be nerds dug small flicks, and dudes in suits. I still love Ultraman and you can see the zippers on those guys. It seems like here mainly has been infested with jealous losers. Most of you either wish or tried to make comics or movies and failed. So you just hate on EVERYTHING. Guys it doesn't make you look cool or above it all... It makes you look stupid and that you have no opinion. Being negative all the time is about the same as having no opinion at all.
-
It's just a BAD MOVIE. I hate the recent "It's a comic book movie so you MUST like" nonsense people are trying to spew. This movie is a failure as a geek film and a mainstream film. It's not fun. It's not well made. The reason I went to the screening in the first place was because it sounded like something I would enjoy, and I was legitimately upset with how bad it was. There are one or two good ideas (My favorite being the Zombie AA group), but for the most part everything is extremely derivative and poorly done. Again, they call the vampires "True Bloods" and the Werewolf and Vampire backstory is directly lifted from other sources. I have nothing against Man in a Suit effects, but when I did the post screening focus group, they tried to make the point that is the effects were the movies selling point. There's a cool giant zombie but everything else is really poorly done, they even asked "What if it was in 3D?" to try to sway me on the effects. I'm all for supporting small "geek" projects, but this is shit and we don't have to try to pretend that it's not.
