Straight from Sylvester Stallone... WALTER HILL is directing HEADSHOT!
Hey folks, Harry here... Last Friday, I got a surprise call from Sylvester Stallone to chat with me about Walter Hill. I immediately did my geek duty to Walter Hill and sung his praises throughout the phone call, because... just in case you forgot... WALTER HILL is the MAN! Not the oppressive MAN, but the MAN who gets cool shit done! Well - I just got the following email from Stallone:

btw @theslystallone says:

I'm still picturing Eddie Murphy and Stallone in 48 Hours and stunned at what that would've looked like...
-
That's what he said Kramer was brought in to do, but came up with something too violent.
-
Call me excited - Walter Hill is awesome.
-
Wrestlers and rappers need not apply.
-
Hell yes. I love Hill's movies- particularly the under appreciated Extreme Prejudice and the still awesome (almost thirty years later) 48 Hours. Now we just need to John Mctiernan back to work, and action movies can be awesome again.
-
Cool news indeed.
-
Sounds like great news to me!!!

jarek, speaking of Banderas, "Assassins" was a bad-ass movie.
by IronEagle74
I don't care what anyone says. It was underrated, and Stallone and Banderas going against each other was classic.
-
Stallone wants to direct without "directing" again- It's great. He can blame Walter when it tanks or take the credit if it doesn't. Walter Hill (at this point in his career) will take Stallone's shit. In the press Stallone said Kramer's take was "too violent" and got rid of him - (That's the sugar coated version) Does anyone want a PG-13 Stallone movie? Is Stallone dumb enuf to make one? Dude, you're 70! Hire a director who'll make sure you stay out of your own way (tall order). Jump on a killer cycle and bring the fuckin' noise... on the next one, cause you just blew it here.
-
Too easy.
-
George P. Cosmatos, anyone?

Not Hill related-but wasn't Beverly Hills cop supposed to be a Stallone movie orginally, too?
by The_Dark_Shite
Wait. I guess that IS Hill related. Just not of the Walter variety:-).
-
I actually feel bad for Hill. Kramer got an early Christmas gift by leaving that nightmare.

Diesel makes more for one F&F these days than Sly does for any single movie.

bringingsexyback - Hill directed in the decade Stallone's career peaked
by Mennen
I fell bad for Hill.
-
Actors do it all the time. I think Sly and Vin would be cool on screen together. Especially with Hill behind the camera.

I dare Hill to cast Eric Roberts in the role of the Hitman
by The Krypton Kid
That would kill!

Harry, some of the jokes you make crack fall pretty flat for me...
by BlaGyver
But I laughed audibly at "not the oppressive MAN, but the MAN who gets COOL SHIT DONE". Good one big guy.
-

I'm sure Sly would love to get Vin, but Vin wouldn't do it.
by JuanSanchez
Too big an ego. He claims putting The Rock in F5 was his idea, but he didn't like sharing the spotlight with him.
-
Let's see the two of them kick ass together at least once.

Timothy Olyphant co starring in a Walter Hill action movie
by antonphd
-
that would be a great team up. but fuck it, sly and jason statham should be every movie together.
-
That's actually why I brought up Banderas. This movie on the surface reminded me of Assassins. I too have a soft spot for that flick.
-
people really want more old ass Stallone? That facial hair of his makes his mouth look like a stripper's twat.
-
I'm intrigued about the more violent approach but if not everyone on the team wants to make that precisely then it's ok, there'll be time to find another good movie like that. I'm up for having a good time, no matter the ammount of violence in the pic. Quite a resume on that Walter Hill dude.
-
oh wait....
-
Imagine Stallone and Nicholas Cage teaming up, this could be that very project

Old school director might mean some classic cinematography techniques are used...
by Ray_Tango
e.g. Shoot wide and avoid the shaky cam and whip pans/crash zooms BS that ruined most of the well choreographed fights in Expendables (and Bourne, Quantum, Nolan Batman etc...). I don't care if Stallone "ghost directs" to some degree. I think Walter Hill will cope :) Between them hopefully they can pull something pretty great together. It's really going to come down to the co-lead casting. Please let it be someone who's a real badass. Statham would be okay again. Just don't let it be some fucking pretty boy who would look more at home on a cat walk than kicking someones head in.

I can't believe some of you morons want Vin Diesel
by IndustryKiller!
Diesel is just....I mean Christ it goes without saying at this point he's wretched and box office poison in anything without a F&F moniker in the title. Put your fucking idiotic fanboys brains from 1999 away for a second and THINK with a modicum of taste for God's sake.

Walter Hill's last great flick was Extreme Prejudice.
by Amadeo Zeller
...But Last Man Standing had its' moments, though.
-
I mean yea, he is old. Who cares. I would still rather see Sly or Arnold on screen kicking ass than any of the younger guys. And yes, Vin Diesel is a terrible idea......... What about someone that no one would expect, like Brandon Routh as the younger guy?
-
would be cool
-
Walter Hill has a pretty cerebral style..... you could say cool and distant...... you could say arm's length........ you could say he has a cynic's eye....... or maybe that's just me and I'm full of it. People don't usually mention "Southern Comfort" when Walter Hill comes up, but that's my favorite thing of his. Stallone on the other hand is just raw, raging emotion. How do you put those two things together?
-
I could see him clashing with Sly. In the movie, I mean. Give him something better than I am number four, at least...
-
... then "the warriors" (not the director's cut with the comic book slant)

will walk from this turd fest. Probably needs a movie badly and doesn't get much offers cause of age, but Stallone will be calling the shots. Backseat driver is right. Stallone has directed himself for way too long to be able to be directed anymore. Same with writing. He rewrites everything and claims it for his own cause let's never forget the man wrote Rocky. I love Walter Hill as much as the next action fan, but Stallone needs to be in the hands of a younger, cooler director to give it a contemporary feel and not feel like a 90s flick which screams DTV now. But the man shows no respect, knows no respect. And what is this comedy bullshit Sly???! You can't do comedy. Nobody wants to see you try..don't even try to be funny you don't have it in you. Just kill people viciously and walk cool, dude.
-
wOw wOw WOW, Tango&Cash is awsome. As a kid I loved that movie, the prison escape was sweeet. Now back the fuck off Tango & Cash cause Kurt Russel as Riggs and Sly as super high class rich smart cop, thats great, movie is great for the old time action hero movies. Your triping if your intention was to say it was bad.
-
Michael Fassbender kicks all kinds of ass. It's shocking that he's not a huge star yet, but it will happen. I like Dwayne Johnson, and he's is finally getting back into action after a bunch of Disney fluff. Ignoring the young up-and-comers for a bit, I'd love to see Sly paired with or against Jean Reno, Arnie, Patrick Warburton (in an action comedy), Ron Perlman, Ray Stevenson, and Axe Cop. Speaking of Ray Stevenson, can you imagine Sly as a Punisher villain? That would be seriously awesome.
-
April 12, 2011, 1:57 a.m. CST
yeah Bradon Routh is a good idea to pair with the BACKSEAT DIRECTOR
by Frye777
-
that is all.
-
Rocky Balboa, Rambo, and The Expendables were all awful.
-
I´m sick of pretty kids, shaky-cams and digital action.
-
Man, that movie is good.
-
Harry, a question if I may.. As things stand do you know whether we'll get HEADSHOT or EXPENDABLES II first? (also any news on that intriguing sounding EXPENDABLES Directors Cut?)
-
Eric Bana would be my choice for the cop to play alongside Sly's hitman. He's a great actor with enough charisma to hold his own alongside Sly. He'd be believeable as a cop with ethics - but who's prepared to go outside the law to take down the bad guys. Plus if this movie has any car chases then we all know Bana is an uber petrol head - you wouldn't need to hire a stunt driver!
-
"...so long as I got a face, you got a place to sit." I thought that line from Extreme Prejudice was funny as hell.
-
Who in their right mind would care about this? Maybe when it's on HBO a few months after theatrical release (and there is nothing else on).
-
At last, someone had the guts to say it! Look, Sly is/was GREAT a movie star in the truest sense of the term. In his youth, the camera LOVED him. Movie stars are people who capture your attention when they're onscreen. Sly got lots of my money for the mediocre films that you mentioned. Im a fan, but I ain't blind. He really is not that good of an actor. But undoubtedly one of the top movie stars of his time. I accept that and still pay to watch, but with increasing disapointment.
-
Can you count suckas?
-
Picked up a few comments earlier on his clash with Sly. First I heard. I love Wayne's stuff and was really looking forward to this. Anyone know what he's doing now?
-

I don't know who should be slys partner, but i'll tell you who shouldn't
by jolliff89
vin diesel sucks a big fat dick, so does channing tatum, and paul walker, fast the furious sucks, it reminds me of all those scumbags in my small town who go to the middle of town with their stupid ass hondas that they "pimped out" so they say and put a wing on the back and some "cool new" pipes and think they're the shit. so thats first off, second did anyone see GI Joe, yeah channing tatum was real great wasn't he? sucked that shit up with a straw, if either of those actors or paul walker are in this movie someone should be shot.
-
Same with "Southern Comfort." Still, when was his last really good movie?
-
Let's go weird. Macaulay Culkin.
-
He'd rock it with Stallone. Like "L.A. Confidential" but not all past tense and shit.
-

Needs a real actor - would like to see Ryan Gosling
by openthepodbaydoorshal
in a Walter Hill directed ass stomper. Guy could use a good genre flick on his resume.
-
He would be perfect. Pass the torch Sly! Everybody remembers how awesome it was when Arnold appeared in The Rundown with The Rock.
-
Without interference. Remember WHY you hired him: 48 Hours The Getaway The Warriors Southern Comfort The Long Riders etc. Let him do his thing please. No repeat of "Supernova", goddamnit!!
-
I enjoyed it. But seems like no one else did.
-
I, too, want Nicolas Cage with Sylvester Stallone in a Walter Hill film.
-
Except that he would be rhyming all the time in his Lep voice, which would drive Stallone's character crazy. Oh, the hijinks!
-
Stallone has been in his own way for decades. A paranoid tool.
-
Just curious.... oh wait, I know. They took all your shit before you were able to finish your cycle. Damn, that sucks. You could have looked good in that movie.
-
Since people are coming up with lame ideas. Really, Ryan Gosling???

Why does Sly continue to think Harry and AICN have all the answers?
by Acquanetta
I realize Sly needed a way to get back into the game a few years back, and saw AICN as his ticket to generating buzz for Rocky 6. But at this point, he needs to stop trying to get approval for every new project. The reality is that fanboys will turn on him quicker than anyone- as the backlash against Expendables proved.
-
good one....will Justin Bieber jokes ever get tired.
-
April 12, 2011, 3:18 p.m. CST
No wrestlers. His young partner needs to be someone who can act.
by Bobo_Vision
The problem is....most people who can act don't want to be in action films with Stallone. Cop Land was an exception. BUT, if he can make it happen....get someone like Ed Norton, Sam Rockwell, James Franco....someone like this. <p> No muscleheads 'cause then it just becomes wrestling outside of the ring.
-
This project now has all the tools to be a modern classic! Walter Hill! Sylvester Stallone! Great story! Great script! Sly, if you are listening... I cannot tell you enough how important it is to cast the proper young action actor to co-star with you. Vin Diesel or Statham are your two best bets. The movie would make sooo much $$$$$$!!!! Look what Diesel did with the last two Fast&Furious installments... He made them into straight up action films! Give him the chance Sly! Dont cast Adrian Brody or Matt Damon or crappy actors like that.
-
Well, at this point, that just means you can't say fuck more than once. I can't think of a Hill movie for which the violence would have merited an R these days. I would say that Walter's last "great" film was either The Long Riders or Southern Comfort. I can't remember which was released first. I was fond of Trespass, though it doesn't rank with his best work.
-
Sly, do NOT cast Channing Tatum! None of the male demographic like him!!!
-
They were tonally adult and hard hitting and had tons of cursing. Johnny Handsome would be R for nudity, violence, language, overall badassness... so would 48 HRS, naked hookers, girlfriends, strong violence, cursing... Long Riders would actually get an R today simply for violence. Lots of slo mo exploding bullet wounds, I think there was a bit of Belle Star nudity as well... Southern Comfort, definitely for continual language and bloody violence, lots of cajun death traps, spikings... Peter Coyote getting half his head blown off in the beginning... Walter Hill is a seriously violent film maker who only toned it down for Streets of Fire back in the day and the Driver was basically just one big car chase, would be PG-13 today. Extreme Prejudice had major bloody violence, nudity, language...C'mon, Walter Hill doing a PG-13 comedy action thingy makes me sick to my stomach. Stallone is such a pussy. He just wants the $$$$, that's all he's ever been about.
-
too easy! i saw someone say tim olyphant though that would be awesome. im loving justified

And speaking of John Woo again, Chow Yun Fat would be good in either EXPENDABLES 2 or HEADSHOT.
