UPDATED WITH A TRAILER FOR THE CARTOON SERIES!! A GOVERNATOR Movie!? So Says Arnold...
Merrick again...
A trailer for the cartoon series has now hit the net. This is the most animated Larry King's been in quite some time! Here's an embed...
Original article follows...
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Merrick here...
Keeping updates short and sweet while I battle severe internet connectivity issues. Upgraded to Time Warner "Extreme" - which is supposed to make my Internet go faster than the "Turbo" I already had - and it has dragged me to a complete, unworkable standstill.
Anyway...
Last week we learned that Arnold Schwarzenegger would parlay his "Governator" nickname/mythos into a franchise via a Stan Lee-shepherded comic book and an animated TV series (details HERE).
Schwarzenegger has now revealed that plans to exploit said character don't stop at comics and cartoons - looks like we'll be getting a movie as well.
“First will come (The Governator) comic books, then a (cartoon) TV series and after that we will develop the games and then a movie,” Schwarzenegger told a packed room of international journalists at global TV market MipTV in Cannes. “Maybe then we'll be back in Cannes for that.”'
[EDIT]
Schwarzenegger also confirmed he is returning to live action features, saying he will soon be “getting back in front of the camera.”

He's planning a movie before the cartoon even premieres
by Bobo_Vision
It might be mildly amusing but I wouldn't pay 12 bucks to watch it in a theater.

Cos his 1 effort and directing a movie (albeit a TV movie) suncked donkey balls!

THE GOVERNATOR = the death of fun.
-
Im pretty much the biggest Schwarzenegger fan on the planet. (other than ABking) But even I think this is lame...All the projects on the table for him to choose, and he picks THIS? Sly's makeing hard core action flicks and 250 mil grossing blockbuster's....and Arnold's doing fucking comic book's...If used the right way Arnold can headline action flicks that make bank again...But I feel this, sadly is not the way to do it. Then again, the guy has done pretty much anything he has set his mind to do. Much of it being a success.
-
this is a fucking stupid idea! give us a fucking proper Terminator movie set in the Cameron envisioned future. THAT IS WHAT WE WANT!

be serious Arnold is hitting 70, this is the best you may get
by SantosLHalper
and I'm fine with it. An older Conan adventure, the guy they based the Terminator 800's on, Jingle All the Way TOO with Hayden Christianson all could be great too. But a True Liesy, semi campy, gadgetfull spy action adventure show an POSSIBLY A MOVIE (HE SAYS POSSIBLY LEADING TO ONE DAY in the magazine) mixed with Terminator sounds awesome. It's only really all about the stupid one liners and his bigger than life personality on screen. As long as he gives off new lines for the telephone pranksters and causes chaos and destruction we'll all be fine. Besides this he wants to do a drama about him and a kid so i'm just happy for any new Arnold action films before he gets too old.
-
Holy fuck, I just watched that embed. Dear god help me... This isnt just the death of fun. This is fun getting getting beaten, ass raped, and then being hung drawn and quartered while fun's kids merriment and jolity watch on through tear stained eyes.
-
didn't think Arnie could crush my eyeballs and brain through a cartoon. My being an animator/storyboard artist, I look at the shots in here and can take a pretty good guess as to what went on in the production meetings. I know I would have wanted to cry and jump out the window. Sorry, Arnie, this is not how I wanted to see you do a comeback and this cartoon looks dumb.
-

In that 3 minute trailer....Arnold has maybe 10 seconds of dialogue
by Bobo_Vision
Arnold expects adults to watch a kids cartoon just to get a few minutes of him doing ADR work. Not going to be very successful. Kids could care less about him, and adults won't have the patience for this.
-

-
TELL THE PEOPLE!!!!
-
Come on man, make a proper comeback action movie, an original one, no sequels, no reboots and no shitty propaganda cartoon for kids. Work with James Cameron again, come on man
-
I mean this is a late april fools joke. It just has to be right? This is god awful. Stan Lee needs to be stopped for the sake of his own legacy (if he even has one left). Horrible movies on syfy, a stupid 'superhumans' show on cable. Stop it Stan, you aren't PT Barnum. Schwarzenegger was ALWAYS a terrible actor, best used when he is as inanimate (robotic one might say) as possible.

-

-
I know Arnie is a pathetic do nothing sad sack of crap but wow, the lame a$$ Terminator references, amazingly stupid.
-
It's been pointed out in other talkbacks, but audiences don't seem to care for muscle-bound strongmen as action heroes in movies these days. You have esteemed actors like Jake Gyllenhaal, Matt Damon, Adrien Brody and Liam Neeson all playing plausible action heroes in respected movies. And you know who has been the busiest and most bankable action movie star over the last 10+ years? Nicholas Cage. Fuck, we even have teenage girls (Hit Girl, Hanna) showing up on movie screens kicking ass. So where does an icon (relic?) from 80's blockbuster movies fit in today's movie market? There's a reason why Dwayne Johnson doesn't do action movies but inane family flicks.
-
He's Batman and Iron Man all rolled into one.
-
That was aweful! And hilarious
-
Will the owner of those robots be a liberal Democrat? And notice how he takes them out with a giant letter "L". That'll show 'em Arnie.
-
after that they just kind of hang around, a pale shade of their former glory. arnold hit big around 84...his last great film was True Lies in 94...ten years. some stars are still able to do good work, but its nothing like their golden years.
-
...........right?
-
I just saw up there that Stan Lee is partly responsible for... whatever this is. Really Stan?! REALLY?!
-
Surprised he didn't defeat them by teaming up with a Saudi Prince and driving over them in a hummer.
-
Seriously, if you had millions to spend, and one of the first things you do after governing California was financing a superhero cartoon about yourself.... props to Arnold for that bit of greatness. Too bad the cartoon looks like it was done in a day and a half.

-
Is this serious?

Yes...it's crappy animation...for KIDS. No worse than most the Saturday morning cartoons that kids mindlessly watch every day. It takes Ahnuld an hour to record 8 episodes worth of dialoge, sitting comfortably in a sound booth without breaking a sweat. He's gettin well paid...and he's 63 years old. Not a bad gig.
He'll be doing "grown up" stuff again soon enough, people. He has many scripts that have piled up on his desk while he's been in office. He's in no hurry to jump back into "real" work so soon after leaving a tough job running a fuckin' STATE.
Most people are long retired at 63. Cut Conan some slack, you impatient fuck nuts!

-
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHH......!
-
To be more precise, this is for kids you hate.
-
I can see why California has such a high deficit...look at the property destruction he causes in his battles! No wonder he was losing in the polls, did you see the way he just ripped that letter off of that building!? That poor business owner had to file an insurance claim and cause their rates to sky rocket or even be dropped! He should go by the name of The Terminator...oh, wait...
-
this is some of the cheesiest shit ive seen, and im not an AICN talkback hater...i usually defend any kind of art always....Ive given Ghost Rider props for certain aspects fer chrissakes This cartoon would be bad ass if this trailer was just a front and the cartoon turned out to be ultra dark, gritty, graphic, and vulgar. keep the light IQ dropping dialogue and goofiness with the scenes with the kids, but when govenator fights you, he fucks you up in ways that make the coroner throw up on the crime scene. just two completely contradicting approaches in the same cartoon. it would blow peoples minds And I live in California, and that, was actually pretty accurate depiction of a normal day on a San Francisco street. BAnk robbery by transforming robot turns downtown into a warzone during battle with Arnold fact
-
Most kids today don't even know or care who Arnold is. The action heroes of days before appeal to the 30-60 demographics. This reminds me when studios fail to realize who their demographics are, be it A0Team, Dukes of Hazard or G.I Joe. They produce films that completely alienate the very fans who actually cared about it in the first place. What real Arnie fan wants to watch this? What normal person does?

Awesome re-imagining of the HERO/ENTREPRENEUR concept
by Bradford Richardson
Awesome re-imagining of the HERO/ENTREPRENEUR concept. I especially like that it's geared toward kids!
-
I mean it is a comic book, it won't exactly take up too much of his time doing some voice over work. But the whole Terminator referencing is just old hat and lame. If I hear him say the words I'm or I'll in the same sentence as be back 1 more time I think I am going to throw up.
I would bet real money his next movie is also going to be a poorly chosen project that no Arnie fan will be interested in. How cool would it have been if he decided to get back with Cameron and became a hero or villain in the next Pandora movie? Or if they did a 2nd True Lies movie. Arnie is not hitting 70, he is only 63 and is working out and getting in good shape again. His body in shape again will put most 40 year olds to shame if he trains the way he used to even during Terminator 3. No reason why he can't do what Stallone is doing these days. BTW Stallone is older then Arnold.
-
can make it from Brentwood to Frisco in a couple of minutes? Must be all the kooky electricity shooting around the wheels.....
-
Kindly get off my lawn.
-
You have visions of Arnold coming back as an aging Eastwood/Captain Kirk style hero, and instead you get a Mr T cartoon... Jesus. I thought Arnold was smarter than this. How about Eastwood resurrects Arnold's career with a slightly more amped up Gran Torino style film? I'd go see that. Or just give Verhoeven a call for fucks sake.
-
I think that's already on youtube, but I'm not certain.
-
I mean c'mon who their target audience? Tweenage boys from 1989 thawing from a boot of cryogenically suspended animation. Speaking of the animation... One word - horrible.
-
I mean, Arnie even has a team of kids in his basement dungeon just waiting for a chance to help him fight crime? And he literally fights some Transformers. I'm THERE.
-
Tell me this is some expensive, elaborate and slightly belated April Fools joke. Please?!
-
Cheap animation - check Responsible (i.e. sucky) writing - check Children of various races - check Arnold has great business sense but zero artistic sense. This will be in line with the 6th Days and End of Days and all of those things. In other words: IT WILL BOMB EPICALLY!!!
-
So this is what the fucking Mayans predicted.
-
The Governator vs. The Octodog With Rob Schnider voicing Octodog. The movie will make $$$.
-
Wow another animation from the North American School of Shitty Clone Animators.
-
Seriously? Why in the fuck would you do that?
-
It's hilarious how talkbackers are fantasizing about how Arnold could come back like Stallone or pull an Eastwood or reconnect with Cameron. Stallone is a triple threat. He writes, acts and directs (sometimes pretty well...other times, not so much, but still). Arnold has never been much more than a body. He's got a little bit of screen charisma and was a shrewd businessman. That's about it. Throw some dialogue at him that wasn't cliched or pun-fillled and this dude was dead in the water. He couldn't even pull off that bullshit Stallone wrote for him in that lame Expendables flick everybody gushes over. And Eastwood? C'mon, really? Eastwood's been in the business for over 45 years. He's an award winning actor/writer/director. He's not just an image. He's actually got talent and skills. Arnold's problem is that he built his image solely on his physique. He's a one-note performer. The only thing he's ever really been good at is selling us his one-man army schtick. That guarantees him a shortened shelf life. And Cameron is so far beyond Arnie now it's almost laughable.
-
Usually this site leads the way with the rolling hate filled diatribe but every forum I went to today was killing this crap.
This guy can do for his career what Clint did if he used his brain. Stop with the comedy crap, he should be kicking ass in tight story's with good directors. He doesn't even need to be in Mr Universe shape.
What do I think he will do? Sign on for some more crap movies by unknown or garbage directors and then just fade away instead of getting back to what he does best. He is still young enough to be a spy/action hero type actor. He would be awesome in Pandora 2. Something like that to get his name back to being huge.
-
Wow.. like.. wow. lmao WOW. I'm speechless, this is really real? Like, NUMEROUS people had a hand in creating this? This was actually planned out and is set to really exist like this? If this is real, it reeks of Arnold surrounding himself with celebrity awestruck production teams, to just let him run rampant, I mean this is NOT the work of a NORMAL human being, ok? This is crazy ass Arnold Schwarzenegger let loose to completely pander to his own ego and narcissism. Why even air it, just keep it and watch it by yourself in your mansion to the only audience you care about. Oh hey great, love how the Governator there revs the left handlebar grip on his cool motorcycle there, classy work. Oh, and the linked article is almost as unreal as the clip. "Naturally, there will also be recurring supervillains — including an evil organization called Gangsters Imposters Racketeers Liars & Irredeemable Ex-cons (or G.I.R.L.I.E. Men, for short). For Schwarzenegger, the cartoon is obviously the next best thing to being President. “I love the idea of a control center below my house with a path so that boats and submarines can go right into the ocean,” he tells EW. “In the cartoon, my house is much closer to the beach than where we live, but, you know, it’s a cartoon.”
-
That looks wretched.

This is TOTALLY what I used to watch back in the day! I love that this seems like a throwback to those late 80s 'toons about celebrities. Mr. T had one. I even remember one about super hero athletes with Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, and Wayne Gretsky. They all had wacky gadgets and sports related weapons. Was a lot of fun.

You summed it up better than I ever could. And did he have to drag the pulp fiction theme song down the toilet with him??? Why are giant robots robbing an armoured car?? Do they need money? Who are all these trendy teens who apparently live in Arnold's basement running his hi-tech base and watch him get dressed??
-
Err...wrong cartoon.
-
Seriously Arnold looks awful, the animation is horrible, the story is fucking hilarious and the enemies didnt make sense, why the hell the robot exploded with the tire? Was the tire full of Dinamite or something? I know the usual question to all of this is: Its because is Fucking Arnold Schwarzenegger! But this looks terrible!!! Damn just give him a role destroying the shit out of everyone with a baseball bat and everyone will be happy

Too bad the only thing Arnold has cared about in the last 15 years...
by Optimus Prime
has been Arnold. There is not one original idea in this crapfest of a cartoon. 1. A fictional story about Arnold's "real" life. Wasn't that already done years ago in The Last Action Hero? 2. Killer robots attacking humans? I don't know if this is ripping off Transformers or Terminator, either way, both have been done better already. 3. Even his stupid motorcycle looks like a rip off of the bike in The Dark Knight. 4. Using Stan Lee as a way to get attention from comic book fans. Yeah that worked so well with Pamela Anderson's Stripperella didn't it?! 5. The whole "using the secret entrance to the Bat Cave" routine. Just in case ripping off Batman wasn't enough, we can always look at Get Smart. Rather than waste the time and resources making a whole animated series, Arnold. Why don't you just make a public statement that you have pathetically become a sad and lame cartoon character in real life and be done with it.

Hopefully this Governator thing isn't all that Arnold will be doing upon returning to acting
by lv_426
I am fine with him doing a Governator animation if he also does the following: 1) stars in Expendables 2 2) plays a human military mentor to John Connor, and is then captured by Skynet to be used as a model for some T800 terminators 3) stars in that World War II project, With Wings of Eagles I wouldn't mind seeing Arnold return to fighting the predator if there is ever a sequel to Predators, although I doubt it will happen. Other than that, I wouldn't be surprised to see Arnold appear as a merc or some macho big game hunter sent to Pandora in one of the Avatar sequels.
-
starring Arnold, Stallone, The Rock, JCVD, Dolph Lundgren, Sigourney, Charlize Theron, and Noomi Rapace as commandoes sent to fight Red Falcon's alien forces.
-
He really should have a little dino buddy in the show.
-
So the Governator employs child labour in his hidden lair and knows that Smart cars are actually killer robots out to subjugate mankind. Yep, that's a republican cartoon series alright
-
about midway through the trailer, it wasn't half-bad. Besides, I don't think that we'll ever see Arnold act as well (or look as young) as his cartoon doppelgänger.

THE END IS NEAR. Arnold's making this P.O.S. and instead of getting another Arnold Conan movie we get LIZ TAYLOR in the new Conan Movie.

This FILTHY cartoon truly is the DARK SIDE of the FORCE. FACT!
by Darth_Kong
-
This shit looks like Captain Fucking Planet.

...I mean, c'mon. Let's not run Arnold down for producing a dumb cartoon for kids, there are a crapton of them out there and a lot of them are bound to be a whole lot worse than this ends up being. The guy is 70 years old, but he's still got one of the most recognizable voices in Hollywood...this is a way for him to capitalize on that. In my opinion, he should be working with Jim Cameron to create a digital version of himself that Cameron can then use, with facial motion capture and performances by Arnold, to put 1980's Arnold back on screen again!
-
This is the kind of concept 8 years old fans would come up with in their garage. They added the hype with Stan Lee, Larry King and all the guest, hockey animation, shit black eyed peas song -- BIG SUCKAGE IN PERSPECTIVE
-
Stan Lee is moreso a hack than a genius. And regardless of his contributions to marvel, he wouldn't be nowhere as successful without kirby's input. Fuck This Bullshit.

This looks like a parody from a Boondocks episode
by Doctor_Strangepork
If only Huey was here to put this shit in its proper context.
-
Strange but true. Ran into Arnie at 1 am sitting in the lobby of Claridges Hotel here in London. Did a total double-take. What the hell he was doing here I do not know.... Talked to him for 5 minute and congratulated him on his new gig.
-
because, based on the trailer, this is good for 6-8 year old boys. Outside of that, the market is zero!
-
My kids will want them, too. Damn.
-
I bet he was even pissed that the title "Hey, Arnold" was taken. Come on, man. You're better than this.
-
I mean wtf?? Does he still think it's '85? Is this only project he could get greenlit?

Ahnold probably knows nothing about animation, he probably thinks it all looks this terrible
by THE_CHOPPAH
The real question is what is his agent doing. Certainly not his job protecting his client from abortions like this.

Cartoons might be the best idea for Arnold. He can look how he used to and just add the voice.

Arnold, if you are reading this talkback I'd like to propose to you CHOPPAH: The Cartoon
by THE_CHOPPAH
Scrap this P.O.S. and let's get to work on the real deal!
-
I could not finish that trailer.
-
It's almost reminiscent to that Catcher Freeman episode (Boondocks) in which a black sellout superhero has become a self parody. This is beyond silly, and both Lee and Ahhhnulld is desperate for notoriety and ca$h..of course.

Don't like it personally, but a pretty smart career move catering to kids
by StevenScorsese
Most kids probably don't know who Arnold is (or know him only as a governor), so he introduces himself to the next generation via this cartoon. Granted it has little appeal to adults and looks like a cheap ass cartoon from the 80s, but that's not the point. Now he's expanded his future fan base to extend his movie career as long as he wants. It's commercially crass and uninspired, but a smart business move. More little butts in the seat when he gets back to making real movies.
-
AGREED. This is the most ridiculous thing ever, and I'm absolutely okay with that. And people, it IS for kids. Stan Lee has made some pretty shitty things lately, and I, for one, would rather see something this over the top than that godawful thing he did about the skateboarding superhero. He had some bird name.
-
the scene with that slave kid fondling the hologram of Arnold's body is disturbing.
-
what is that saying exactly? And why do evil robots have to transform from smart-cars? There's definitely politics in this trailer.
-
This is Mac and Me level terrible.
-
What a narcissistic steaming pile of maggot-infested shit. Anyone who would defend this trailer is insane. Fuck you Arnold!
-
How can people still use this excuse to justify total shit. Total shit is total shit no matter what the target demographic.
-
So say we all.

So after governing California for 8 years, the best support crew he can get is...

WTH is the Governor when California state needs a rescue???
by BadWaldosRevenge
Ahnuld is a RINO. A colossal failure when it comes to governing the state with stupid policies and short sighted, regressive laws signed by him.
According to Sacramento Bee interview in 2009, he denies that there is a problem with illegal immigration overtaking the state. He defended illegal aliens by spinning to state what if he got injured in a foreign country that needs treatment at a hospital, we all should be "compassionate," ad nauseam.
No wonder Ahnuld sucked as a governor. Moonbeam Jerry Brown should be an ideal villain as a Rainbow Unicorn Man, maybe he might be a lot more effective as a governor slashing and burning budget expenditures.
This cartoon has all the making of a cult classic following Star Trek 70's series mated with Robocop 90's cartoon series. Pure kitsch. Maybe Jim Cameron should thrown in the hat to write and direct episodes under a pseudonym, doing a favor for his Austrian Oak buddy.

by UltraTron
Dazshish goot! Mein Fuhrer! Goh! Gettoow duh choppaahh!!!
-
All parodies of The Matrix need to stop, like yesterday. He did a little compilation of all the movies that do that little bullet-time bullet dodge crap. It wasn't funny then, it wasn't funny having a cartoon Arnold do it now. And the Governator schtick is also past its expiration date. MAYBE kids will like this, but I really don't think so.
-
...this looked liked too much $$$$ spent to be a joke; it was real animation (albeit crappy outsourced animation) and not that el-cheapo Flash garbage. It's either the world's best practical joke, or... You know how The Phantom Menace is the byproduct of one out-of-touch old guy constantly being told he's a genius by an army of sycophantic yes-men? This show is the product of TWO out-of-touch old guys constantly being told they're geniuses by an army of sycophantic yes-men.
-
You've got to be kidding, I mean what the hell is Arnold thinking? Just retire gracefully and get some work done on that scrawny turkey neck you've grown.
