Luc Besson’s THE TRANSPORTER Is Now A Pay-Cable TV Series!!

I am Hercules!!

Time Warner’s Cinemax channel has ordered 12 episodes of “The Transporter,” a new (presumably TV-MA) TV series based on the Jason Statham movie series written and produced by Luc Besson.

According to Besson's people, they're budgeted for about $4 million per episode.

The movies, which I enjoy enormously, follow Frank Martin, a former Special Forces officer who now makes tons of money thanks to his ability to take anything anywhere, no questions asked.

This is far from the first venture into television for Besson (“Subway,” “The Big Blue,” “Leon The Professional,” “The Fifth Element”), who also saw his seminal French spy actioner “La Femme Nikita” adapted into two American series.

Find all of Deadline’s story on the matter here.

    $4m per ep?!

    by ahdvd

Isnt that a bit high? I thought that only the most special effects heavy programs cost at most something like $2m per episode? Why would they need so much for each episode?

    AICN Dudes

    by MegaBeth

Hate manly things.. thus they hate The Transporter! This thing looks pretty dang good for a TV show. I'm glad they signed Jason Statham and not a no name bald dude who can do scissor kicks too. Now all of you limp wrists can go back to re-watching your Gossip Girl Box sets.

I think the pay channels are losing subscribers in a down economy if they don't have something that people can't get via netflix or hulu or something. I have dumped the starz package and cinemax years ago - keeping hbo and showtime mostly because of their originals (though i will have starz for a few months when they finally run torchwood).

Transporter 1 needed to be hard R

    by jbs9200

Transporter 1 was the 1st movie I watched and felt that it would have been greatly improved by being hard R instead of PG-13. It need hefty dose of nudity and blood. . Other than that, I am willing to give most things with Jason Statham a shot (although there is about a 50/50 success rate there.) . I see no reason to ever watch the TV show.

I'll watch it though. Aside from that fucked up car spin jump thing with the bomb on the bottom in the second one the movies were pretty fun.

    I'll be watching!

    by Charlie

I also agree, this will be very very hard to cast. Stathom is perfect in the role and would be hard to replace. Gosh, look who they replaced Wesley Snipes with the for Blade Series... geez.. although I enjoyed that show. He was no Snipes.

    Statham's not starring in it.

The only reason to have Cinemax is for the soft-core porn.

    by Arafel

That's it. Why have Cinemax when you can get HBO or Showtime? The only reason is for the soft-core porn, because you are too embrassed to order it online.

4 million per? shit, but this could be fun on and hbo are leaving them behind quickly with original series

    This is total crap

    by borisF

This is $4 mil an episode wasted. Some cable channels should not go into original programming game if they chose such crappy projects.

    Pissy complaint about the headline...

    by DarkHawke

I don't know about anyone else, but I've always paid for cable TV, so calling it "pay-cable" is like saying you just used the ATM machine. I understand the need to differentiate between basic cable channels and the ones you pay EXTRA for, like HBO and Skinemax, but that's why we have the word PREMIUM. So the headline should correctly read: "Luc Besson’s THE TRANSPORTER Is Now A PREMIUM Cable TV Series!!" Or why not be more specific: "Luc Besson’s THE TRANSPORTER Is Now A Cinemax TV Series!!" What? I told you it was a pissy complaint.
