The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day not only plays. It can shoot, too!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
Recently my dad came to stay with me. He was here for SXSW and to see my brother’s big night as part of the cast of My Sucky Teen Romance, which had a big Paramount Theater premiere. Growing up he loved Connery Bonds and Leone Spaghetti Westerns… and sure enough, one night I came in from some midnight South By flick and he was asleep on the couch with The Good, The Bad and The Ugly playing on the TV.
Since then I’ve been in a Spaghetti Western kind of mood, so that’d explain why today’s shot from Sergio Leone’s amazing Once Upon A Time In The West jumped out to me, demanding to be run.
Next to Leone’s Man With No Name films, Once Upon A Time In The West is my favorite. Charles Bronson is unreal in this flick as the baddest harmonica playing gunslinger ever. Even more unreal is Henry Fonda playing against type as the most cruel steel-eyed bastard ever. It really is a must see flick if you haven’t given it a spin yet. I mean, this film has story by credits from Dario Argento, Bernardo Bertolucci and Leone. What a power team, right?
Enjoy the pic and click for the bigger version!

Tomorrow the Behind the Scenes Pic continues in this genre with another great son of a bi-ah-ahahaha!

for 10 minutes right? I dug the Leone trilogy but this film bored the crap out of me.
-
and can't wait for when it hits Blu Ray.
-
Claudia Cardinale is freakin' killer gorgeous. And great lines too. Not bad. Congratulations. Tell me, was it necessary that you kill all of them? I only told you to scare them. People scare better when they're dying.
-
It's got Claudia Cardinale and she is smokin!
-
I kid I kid. That movie kicks ass too. I'd say it's just as good as The Good the Bad and the Ugly.
-
...but Once Upon A Time In The West is my favorite Leone film. Sure, there's no Clint, Van Cleef, or Eli, but you got Bronson, Robards, Fonda, plus as has been mentioned above, the absolutely gorgeous Claudia Cardinale. That trumps the poncho for me. Add in my favorite Morricone score, the monument valley locations, and really, one of the coldest villains in film, and it's no contest.
-
...and my favorite Ennio Morricone score, as well. Pure poetry.

Time to dust off my copy I think.

Gets better every time I watch it. Each time it's like an event. Gotta make sure I'm comfy and ready for it. Love watching it with a friend who's never seen it before. Great commentary and docs on the DVD, too...
-
"um... spoiler alert, maybe?" You want a spoiler alert on a 43 year old movie? Geez. By the way, Rosebud is a fuckin' sled.
-
the shoulders of George Takei..ohh my!

...sound designers, cinematographers...etc...

Everything about this scene is awesome: the music, the anxiety and desperation in their eyes, its context in the film, etc...
by Tigger Tales
It was brilliantly executed: Leone gave us little "teaser" flashbacks throughout the film, and then gave us the whole meal with this scene. Made it all worthwhile!

This movie could be called The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, And The Beautiful.
by SnootyBoots
Ever notice that, despite the fact that Fonda had been a movie star for 30 years, and that Bronson and Robards had been around for near 20, it's Claudia Cardinale who gets top billing?

Thank you for making me listen to Ennio Morricone stuff on YouTube for over an hour

I can't listen to music from this film (or let's face it, any film with his music) without getting teary-eyed. Plus, the movie is beyond epic. There's a picture of it in the dictionary next to the damn word.
-
if you haven't seen this - watch it!
-
and I have a SHIT-TON of spaghetti!
-
FACT!!! Butt seriously, anyone who is into movies at all must see this movie if you haven't already, it's simply incredible. It's a masterpiece.

What if the guy underneath had lost his footing?

Why does AICN ignore Red Dead Redemption and L.A. Noire? Aren't those right up their alley?

Just wanted to echo the sentiments of others on the board. And yes, Claudia Cardinale is insanely hot. It also contains one of my favorite lines from a movie EVER. Frank: "How can you trust a man who wears both a belt and suspenders? The man can't even trust his own pants!"
-
Yep, super classic. The blurry Fonda coming forward the whole movie from a distance til the very end when all the strands come together. A western art film about the dark heart of man. Claudia Cardinale makes your heart die. Robbards, Fonda & Bronson all tremendous & complex. I fucking love it.
-
Is b/c of the title of the film which is less epic or quotable.
-
http://justseries.tumblr.com/post/4078039456/lol Think this is great.
-
Masterpiece!! Every element of the film is firing on all cylinders. Truly epic on every level! I do love the Dollars Trilogy and Duck, You Sucker, but with this film and Once Upon A Time in America Sergio Leone captures the human condition at its most complex and elegiac.
-
This may well be Leone's greatest film (not my favourite - that would be The Good, The Bad and the Ugly) but this is a true masterpiece. It's epic, brutal, poetic, sad, funny, has great characters (Fonda playing one of the greatest villains ever), Morricone at his best... what's not to love? It could well be the greatest Western ever. And the scene depicted in the above photo is heartbreaking. Wow!
