Please don't have a cameo with Sam Jackson. Nick Fury can't get more boring.
by aceattorney
I'm sure Nick Fury is awesome in the comics, but his character is just plain boring in the movies (yes, I get that they're just cameos).
-
ps i jizzed
-
you're the best! I can't wait to see this movie.
-
Chaz Bono's masectomy, that is.
-
Technically this is an embarrassment for the marketing team out of the gate. ET was not up to the task and the on-release quality at this moment is absurd.

They could have at least shrunk Evans' head with the CG.

This movie looks cool. Also, Harry, please give me a call. Your loving brother, Larry
-
Johnston knows how to respect period pieces without sacrificing the fun of those eras in the same breath, so looking forward to it.

The slo-mo shot of Cap and his boys coming thru the door, guns blazing...
by DoctorWho?
...is the shit.
-
People were saying "epic" is overused on the other thread but this looks FUCKING EPIC.
-
....3 of the surrounding men should fall dead from the ricochets, followed by Captain America shrugging and laughing.
Is his skinny body the result of CGI? If so, is his bare chest enhanced by CGI, too?
-
This is gonna be great. FACT!!!
-
I think it is highly appropriate that Captain America has a gun. Good Choice.
-
is steve rodgers and i have a great feeling about this, i mean i love how this looks to be a true origin story how the hero needs to truly develop into a hero and not only for himself but as the walking symbol of america during the great war, and come on cosmic cube and red skull come on man fantasticasam all over the place

I'm glad they've toned it down a bit

Looks decent. Could be the least disappointing comic book movie of the year.
by Huey_Freemans_afro
-
He has a certain earnestness about him as a skinny Steve Rogers.
-
I have watched it like seven times now.
It has been a LONG TIME since I have seen a Trailer that has me this excited. Maybe the BATMAN trailer back in 1989...

-
most anticipated movie of my year!
-
One nitpicky criticism is that the SuperSoldier syrum injection / operating room scene seems a little too sci-fi. Would like to see a more low-tech version.
-
Looks "decent"?? Looks great! This is the perfect type of story for Joe Johnston to direct.
-
That was fraggin' incredible. First, they have Chris Evans' head superimposed over a really skinny guy, and it looks really, really good (I get it's a trailer and there is much that I have not seen, but it's an excellent tease). Then you have skinny Steve Rogers getting beat up in an alley, and he pulls a trash-can top to protect himself, foreshadowing his future as Captain America. Very, very cool. So cool in fact that I wished that they had not shown that scene in the trailer because I can see it bringing the house down with the right audience. And then you have Tony Stark working on the Super-Soldier program (and I don't think that's following canon, but I like it) and you then have a great reveal of the Red Skull... I know that great trailers have often come from sucky films, but this pushes all the right buttons, unlike Green Lantern, which, to be honest, leaves me cold.
-
Based on everything that has come out for the superhero flicks this year, Cap looks to be the best of them, but time will tell.
-
My boner after watching this is made of vibranium!
-
Looks AWESOME. Would love to see the non-Ultimate costume make an appearance in Avengers... am I alone on this? Could be cool...
-
I never really followed the Captain America comic books, but I'm definitely seeing this. I never read any Iron Man comics either & I was in the theater day one for the first Iron Man movie.
-
You know how it goes.

Putting Captain America in an Avengers movie will dilute...
by Larry Knowles
I got a good feeling about this movie. But a bad feeling about Avengers. If this Captain America movie owns, it will be a shame to watch them fuck up the franchise by thrusting him into the Avengers movie.
-
Chris Evans was the smug, smart-alecky persona in previous films because that's what directors/producers wanted out of him. He's a good actor and can be more than just a wise-crackin' pretty boy. CAPTAIN AMERICA will prove it. Can't believe they're making this character relevant and, dare I say it, awesome!

I'm really excited for this latest culture-delivery product.

Advertisements for action figures have never looked so professionally calibrated!
-
Gives me the same feeling as the first Iron Man movie. That's a good thing.
-
i get to be 5 years old again....when i first discovered the cap im stoked
-
So Iron Man's dad starts off as an assistant huh? Makes sense since *spoiler* the scientist who invents the process used to create Cap dies at the beginning of the story.
-
Not Tony, but Howard, Tony's dad. They're giving the Marvel movie universe some history, which I'm more than ok with.
-
TOO SOON?
-
Is Stark gay? (not that there's anything wrong with that) but he is sporting some major wood when he does the once over on his "blow-up Steve".
-
Thought that was a pretty neat line.
-
One will be mad cool, the other will less awesome, but still pretty watchable. (Incredible Hulk gets better with repeat viewings. I hope Cap fights like Blonsky.) Now I can only hope that Evans and RDJ will have some good chemistry.

it doesn't look to bad. Though trailers have fooled us before. I feel bad for bashing the Evans decision though i still would have preferred Coop. What i am super curious about if they give us white nick fury or black. I am hoping for a holo-watch either way.

I'm super exited for this one. Looks incredible!

This trailer sealed it for me. This movie is going to kick ass.
-
Good call there. It was so evocative of Tony that I did a bit of projection.

see i am not going to bring the hate but what i might ask is what about it has you feeling like it is not worth watching? i mean it seems very much drawn from the established canon, it seems to be setting up who cap really is as a hero, and it looks slick so and not attacking just saying what is it that you feel it needs to be?

If anything looks lazy in this movie, its the Hydra trooper design
by Rebel Scumb
Not bad, but just has that generic suped up faceless badguys in black supertrooper look. Like the vipers in the GI Joe movie from a few years ago Compared with that beautifully designed Viper trooper figure that appears in the banner ads periodically here on AICN Again, not really a complaint, could of just gone for something with a little more personality. Capt looks great though, the cinematography/tone all look good. Hopefully it delivers big time on the action also.
-
I'm OK with that. Watching Bucky in Captain America stories always made me feel uncomfortable like I was reading gay porn.
-
but all grown up, it just looks like war propaganda. I know it probably was in comic form but it's soooo, I don't know, America saving the day again bullshit!
-
I knew Howard Stark was in the movie, but didn't catch that the first time I watched the trailer. Shame it couldn't be a magically de-aged Roger Sterling from Mad men ala Iron Man 2
-

You Dipshits Reaaally Lurv Ye' Propaganda, Don't'cha?!
by Sherlock Holmes II
I'd love to see any of you in the same room as any allied soldier who had to fight alongside Americans in any capacity. Your soldiers, according to their accounts, were the most racist, fear-ridden cowardly arseholes who ever walked the face of the earth. But the trailer does look good, doesn't it?

... the movie could burn and sink in the bottom of the ocean for all i care. Captain Fascism, i mean, Captain America was never big outside USA, anyway. I mena, really, what the fuck is the appeal of that shit, anyway? A nationalistic moralistic boderline fascist character who dresses with the flag and fights by playing frisbie?? What the fuck is that shit?
-
the one that says, 'this is war'?
-
The trailer is good, except for the awful Frankenstein scene right in the middle of it, but im sure it will suck anyhow. Good trailers are a dime a dozen. Good movies are not.
-
I'm not American, and normally I might even agree with what you're saying. Everything you said is infact, intellectually correct. In this particular case, it just doesn't bother me. I take for granted that every American WW2 movie makes it seem like they were the only ones fighting, and pretend that the Brits, and us badass Canadians weren't even there. If this was some new movie out of the blue then I'd be more critical. But capt A has been around as a comic since the actual war, and was made as propaganda. He is a fixture of the Marvel universe, and when they started down this avengers path with ironman, a capt movie was inevitable I'm choosing to just judge this on its own merits, which is: Is it an entertaining superhero/popcorn summer movie? Will it be? I don't know. But the Trailer sure makes it seem like it will be.
-
read any of Brubaker's run and tell me he's a propaganda tool. Comics have changed a bit since WWII, ya know.
-
I haven't really kept up with Marvel comics in recent years (too many hobbies, sadly not enough time) but someone was telling me that in the newer comics they've actually made Capt basically into a Jack Bauer type special forces guy, which sounds really cool. Someone also told me there was a point where they killed off Capt A, but they had created such a good supporting cast in the comic, that they were able to keep the title going for quite a while, despite the fact that the title character was dead.
-
or does this look fucking awesome? A huge improvement on the teaser.
-
We all knew the story would be strong and smart and fun, whatever. It all pales in comparison to how fucking pissed off i still am over Aronofsky's departure from the wolverine. So pissed, that all these geek movies suck to me now. Even though this does look good. I have hope for this summer now with Thor and Conan as puke and this as edible.
-
The shot of Hugo weaving pulling off his own face and the red skull underneath is badass to Although admittedly, part of me was hoping that Hugo would start out in heavy prosthetic to make him look like a big fat Nazi officer. And then he would get horribly burned and all his fat skin would melt off like the melting nazis at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, and then just the red skull would be underneath, the shape of Hugo W's actual skull shaped head. Probably whatever is in the actual movie to explain it is better than what I just said...
-
That trailer was fucking BAD. ASS!!!
-
The very fact the character is called Captain AMERICA is pretty fucking telling. Imagine a comic book character called CAPTAIN SOVIET UNION or CAPTAIN COMMUNIST CHINA and dressed with the flag. Or CAPTAIN FRANCE, for that matter. There was even a character called CAPTAIN BRITAIN. Might as well call. it CAPTAIN JINGO! Regardless of ideology, the very name reeks of extreme hubris, which doesn't sit well. To call it in bad taste is an understatment. And the least of it's problems

If there was a Captain Canada, it should be my Grandfather
by Rebel Scumb
He passed away a couple of years ago, but I loved listening to his WW2 stories. He fought on Juno beach during the D-Day invasion, lied about his age to join the army early. Was in europe for the entire war, commanding a tank, had enough close calls, and incredible things happen to fill his own 'band of brothers' HBO miniseries, and won every medal there was to get except the ones that are only awarded posthumously. I've got them all hanging on my wall in a frame, and tucked away also two gold daggers he took off a Nazi officer he captured. He was the real deal, and a very good and honest man at heart to. Anything WW2 related makes me think of him now.
-
All of the previous preview material looked pretty weak, but I enjoyed that trailer. Who plays skinny Captain America? CGI Evans?
-
Your post doesn't make sense to me. Are you saying that Bucky is gay? Or that you disapprove of gays? Or that gays have no place in American Cinema? Or that you are gay and looking for a piece of ass?
-
Did anyone notice that when Captain America bursts through the door shooting the sound effects are exactly like the ones from the Neo/Trinity lobby shootout in the first Matrix?

The CGI doesn't look up to Iron Man standards.
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
I know the resolution is crappy for the embed but the effects look bad, specifically the image composition of backgrounds. Cool trailer, I like it. But it's not up to Iron Man standards, and therefore doesn't have the look or feeling of continuity. Then again, the effects of The Incredible Hulk were not on par with Iron Man either, so Marvel probably doesn't care. Otherwise, this looks like a fun movie. And I'm hoping it has the same kind of storytelling heart the Rocketeer had.
-
Or did he one up Christian Bale? Irregardless, I'd like to once again, break his teeth out, clip his nails, and stick him up my can...
-
You didn't seem to succeed in baiting anyone, but can you direct to some of these accounts before you generalize and insult the character of an entire nation worth of soldiers?

I know it's a big day and all, with Liz Taylor passing and the Cap trailer, but pics and a clip from Toy Story: Hawaiian Vacation have been online for some time now. Meaning days and days. Anyone out there in AICN land? Still waiting for someone to actually say anything about DD-L playing Lincoln, so I guess I shouldn't be shocked.
-
COME AT ME BRO AND SUCK MY HUGE RED WHITE AND BLUE AMERICAN COCK.
-
Totally hits all the right notes. I'm officially excited now! Yay!
-
I'm a dork, but I gotta say it for those wondering. If they go with the vibranium based shield, it absorbs impact, so there's no ricochet effect. So, no innocent bystanders getting killed when the shield is hit. I know that's been changed over the years, lotsa retconning, but there it is for those wondering. Makes about as much sense as anything else.
-
Exactly the right tone. Faithful to the origin. Costume is close to the original while still being realistic. Marvel completely nailed it. Maybe there is some room in the story to insert an Invaders sequel into this same era?
-

I've often considered it. I really wanted to get him on film discussing his expirences, in the vein of the real band of brothers interview segments, before he died, but he was camera shy, and would only talk about the war to me and my brother and cousins. But I do think a lot about trying to condense it all down into a story. Actually if you've ever seen the movie 'a bridge too far' with sean connery and michael caine, he fought in the battle that the movie depicts. Its really a miracle he survived. One story, was about how his commanding officer was an avid birdwatcher back home, and when he went to war brought his super expensive binoculars with him. Their tank was going across a wide section of field and the commander stopped and went out the hatch to check their barings, and a sniper killed him. My grandfather was thus left in charge. The next day he took the same pair of binoculars, and it was his turn to look around. He was scanning the horizon when he saw a brief flash, then the next instant the binoculars were deflected away from his face by the sniper bullet. He ducked back in the tank and returned fire. So if that guy hadn't of brought the binoculars with him, then the bullet would of killed my granddad, and I would never have existed. Its incredible how your entire existence can boil down to such a trivial fact as someone you never met being a bird watcher.
-
I am a politically middle-of-the-road American, but I am puzzled by the anti-American attitude of a few of the posters here. What the Hell is wrong with being patriotic about your country? America has been, despite its drawbacks, a bastion of democracy for centuries. We did our share of heavy-lifting in WW II, with all respect going out to the other Allies.**** For that one joker who suggested that Captain America should be called "Captain Facist", I can only say WTF!? The character was literally created duering WWII by Jewish comic book creators as deliberate COUNTER-PROPAGANDA to Hitler's Nazi Germany and the Axis Powers, ie as a counter to the ACTUAL FASCISTS. The character of Captain America is a deliberate symbol of democracy and freedom, juxtaposed against the ACTUAL FASCISM of the Nazis and their allies during WWII.****Also, I would have no problem with any soverign, democratic country creating a patriotic character draped in their own flag. Captain Canada? Bring him on. Captain Australia? Why not? Captain India? Sure as hell. Why should free democratic nations not be proud of themselves, their flags, and their countries? There is nothing wrong with Captain America.
-
about the kind of guy my granddad was, is when he went to enlist, he was going to sign up as a bomber pilot. But in the enlistment building he was in the elevator and ran into some buddies, and they were getting off on the floor for tank crews, so he thought "what the hell, I'll do that instead!"
-
3rd Canadian Infantry Division?
-
I think the other thing people should keep in mind is, Captain America is meant (at least in my eyes) to embody the ideals that American was meant to represent at its best. And America was founded with some pretty radical (I mean that in a good way) and positive new ideas. That it hasn't always perfectly reflected its potential is true, but thats true of everyone and every place in the world to varying degrees. I mean people don't usually behave like captain picard. Resolving conflict with intellect and compassion. But it doesn't make captian picard less engaging of a hero, if anything he provides a role model to aspire to. And if Captain America is portrayed right, he'll be like that to. The best of americas potential. Plus, I would definitely read a comic called Captain India!
-
March 23, 2011, 9:35 p.m. CST
rebel scumb, yep, you should write a screenplay.
by Stereotypical Evil Archer
At least collect all the stories of him that you and your cousins can remember, write them down and keep them safe, for posterity. That whole thing with the binoculars, that's a hell of a cool little story.
-
I think that could be it. I have some of his stuff in storage, but one of the booklet/album things has his unit. I know he spent a lot of the war in Holland if thats helpful. another great story was about the medic in their unit who towards the end of the war, was dissappointed that he hadn't personally gotten to capture any germans. so when their tank arrived to seize this Nazi castle outpost, they let him take point. The medic was so eager he grabbed his rifle and ran into the castle without waiting for the rest of the squad, yelling at all the germans and catching them by surprise. My grandpa walked in and found the loan medic standing guard over 14 captured nazis. He smiled then after they secured the prisoners, congratulated the medic but said "next time though, you might want to load your rifle before you run into battle"
-
I agree. Its the type of true story, that if you were to just make it up it would seem to incredible to be believed. I've made a lot of notes over the years. this talk back has actually got me really thinking about sitting down and finally getting it all typed up.
-
Oh wait, this takes place during WWII... Although I'm sure Thor will be fun to watch, this just looks a hundred times better than anything I've seen coming out of the Thor camp, teasers/trailers included. For once in his career, Chris Evans didn't annoy me while I watched this.
-
....when Mike Myers was a child in the flashbacks...same size head but tiny body. It was unintentionally comical, but the flick looks good. I'll obviously see it.
-
This looks AMAZING!!!!!
-
Its too bad he didn't want to talk about it, but I think that was fairly common. My grandfather only talked to us about because we were all young men/boys, but he never discussed it with his wife or daughters (my mom and aunt). Not that he was sexist, but he was just old fashioned in that way. The fact that your granddad liberated a concentration camp is pretty staggering, I have no doubt that seeing that alone would probably scar me for life. My dads father is still alive at 94, and still seems younger than I do. He was a bit of a daredevil, and loved motorcycles, and so signed up to be a motorcycle courier during the war, which was nuts because their survival rate was... zero I think. He spent a lot of time training other guys how to ride bike, but was in a crash right before he was suppose to ship out, so never went over to europe, which I have no doubt saved his life. If it was anyone else I would assume that he injured himself on purpose, but I know to this day he wishes he'd had a chance to fight. My dad worked on the Canadian Forces base in Khandahar for 6 months as a civilian engineer last year, and my grandpa kept saying to him "see if they need me to come help out!"
-
its altruistic ideals and ideas and the humane need to apply the International Law,they started attacking and bombing Libya in order to protect the innocent civilians and help the rebels to defeat the tyrant who controls their country. The small detail that the western civilization is interested in helping a country which happens to have oil and some very big commercial agreements and investments with some major european countries it is simply a COINCIDENCE. In other words if you need to criticize the modern USA for the imperialistic and fascist monster that they are, please you should expand your judgement to the other powerful western countires: UK,FRANCE,GERMAN,etc
-
In all seriousness. That is really awful about your grandmother's sister.
-
You should get those stories in http://www.thememoryproject.com/ I've got a few I should submit. My father was in 5th Canadian Armoured Division 8th Field Regiment, SP artillery. Joined when he was 17, the day after Canada declared war. Hard fighting in North Africa, Italy, Holland. They got into Germany but didn't get to do much. He "liberated" a Schmeisser submachine gun, but somebody stole it out of his kitbag on the ship home.
-
who didn't as a kid when you were playing Avengers and was Cap didn't use a garbage can lid to protect yourself? we threw rocks at each other but we were strange kids back in the 60's. I have also been know to cut my friends down with a shield toss of my own. while the rest were wearing towels around their necks I kicked butt and took names with my shield. that kinda smelled bad but I could live with it.
-
And what it ultimately comes down to is, throughout history, the rich and the powerful have always sought to become more rich and powerful at the expense of everyone else. Nationality/race don't really enter into it. I mean they do, but ultimately they don't. Thats why just judging things based on countries never made sense to me By way of example. There's that whole notion that if you protest against say the war in iraq, then you hate the soldiers, or don't 'support our troops' but the way I see it (at least for me), is that I support them enough that I don't think they should have to die or kill for an unnecessary cause. They're as much a victim of crooked governments and corporations who start these wars for their own means. Thats how I see it anyhow. It doesn't excuse the bad behavior of those who abuse their position in the military to hurt/rape/kill civilians, or torture prisoners. But there are also plenty of honest normal men and women in the service who just got the raw end of the stick of being in the military during a time when they would have to go fight in a war of highly questionable motives, and rife with controversy both at home and abroad. my 2 cents
-
Thats a great idea. Sounds like your granddad was sent all over. I'm going to bookmark the link so I can look at it tomorrow after work.

I definitely like the trashcan lid part in the trailer

Evans can act. He's got chops & intelligence. Just b/c he usually plays an asshole doesn't make him an asshole. It makes him a good actor.
-
just gave me a vibranium boner. Marvel Studios might just pull this huge experiment off. So far, they have yet to make a film that hasn't retained the spirit of their properties, and entertained. As a comics nerd for over 30 years, each of their films has really felt like a comic come to life, and this one (and Thor as well) looks like it will keep the streak alive. Avengers Assemble!
-
criticized as political representations which act on behalf of powerful and rich individuals or companies which want to protect and promote their interests at expense of the week and the poor. Not that the people of a country should be left out of this criticism, they have their share of responsibility for the policy and actions of their countries too but when accusing a country and its people for something everything should be put in its right context first.
-
...I'm sold! With reservations though, it is directed by Joe Johnson so the potential for clusterfuck is still there, but I think he's maybe beat that curse with this one. It just looks like everyone involved believes in the project and are enjoying the hell out of it. This will be THE movie of the summer, the one to beat, the one everyone talks about. Thor, I think will be like The Incredible Hulk: sadly underrated, but damn fine work. Green Lantern... hate to say it because I love the character, will be the superhero version of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, an unholy turd from the depths of the nether realms of suckness. The X-Men thing: who cares anymore?

Best way to handle Nick Fury...
by HarryKnowlesNonExistentInceptionReview
...is that "Nick Fury" is an identity taken by whoever becomes the head of SHIELD. (Sort of like M and Q in the Bond films.) You work your way up to OIC of SHIELD, they erase your identity and give you the Nick Fury pseudonym. So maybe Cap meets the original Nick Fury, a Sergeant who goes on to head SHIELD years later, but it's not Sam Jackson, it's a different guy. Sorry, though, can't explain the eyepatch. (Maybe it's really a computer interface???)

Marvel's Captain America Movie will be BETTER than DC's Batman: The Dark Knight

You know this will be true.
-
I'm gonna make the bobblehead, though. It'll sell more than tickets. I don't think "I can do this all day" is Skinny Steve's line. I think it's the kid beating on him who then becomes, like, his best buddy-forever, 'cause, you know, that's how that always happens.
-
Yeah, like the only thing that Joe Johnston has done is Jurassic Park 3 (which wasn't that good, though I personally blame the writing–which Johnston definitely didn't write. The direction, was solid, though you could tell that it didn't have the budget of the first and second films). Every hear of The Rocketeer? What about Jumanji? I deliberately left out Hildago or any of his films that I haven't seen/or recall seeing. You may not have liked the Captain America trailer, but how about a reason why you didn't like it, as opposed to what you posted, which was nonsense.

killik, that would make sense, except our Supreme Court
by Subtitles_Off
has granted corporations person-hood. Our country is made up of people who value the profits of The Kochs over the benefits of the persons who teach our children. The people don't get to hide behind the theory anymore that it's all them, not us. None of which has anything to do with CAPTAIN AMERICA which should be a sentimental, naïve thing. It's comic book adventurist hoorah. Confusing it with representing America, or even America as it was during WWII, is extremely silly.
-
Neither it nor THE DARK KNIGHT will stand the test of time as far as being good. "Better" is all relative.
-
and that's the shot of Cap using a gun. Hope it's just for a moment and for some good reason. After all, Cap's ultimately a defender, not an attacker. Apart from that, everything looks pretty well great. Looks like that, just like everyone else these days, they couldn't resist a bit of CG spectacle, which always takes me out of the moment, but it looks well done.
-
still makes me laugh out loud.
-
does anyone know if he kills adolph jacob hitler - rothschild in the film? everyone does not know hitler's maternal grandmother worked for the rothschild, got knocked up by a rothschild, and that is how Hitler got his millions to wage a 'world war.' the Schiffs, Warburgs, and Rothschilds, amongst the other international bankers, all bankrolled his world war. i hope Captain America is great, and i hope he knocks Hitler Rothschild out!!!
-
Oh Jebus Fuggin' Chrissy! JUMANJI and THE WOLF-MAN. Ferget JURASSIC PARK 3. That was his masterpiece, comparatively.
-
I think you're both wrong. To those dismissing the character as some kind of American ego monster: First off, Cap as he was developed over time in the comics was not a one-dimensional patriot numbskull stomping his boot on the rest of the world. He was was an icon of American ideals of freedom from tyranny and oppression. He wasn't about empire, but about defending the rights of everyone, anywhere in the world he landed. In the late 60s and 70s, as American politics started getting strange and complicated, there were many stories where Cap was essentially fighting against his own countrymen, his own government, his own corporate media, for the sake of defending our ideals. Where he spent tons of time questioning his own value, whether he was an anachronism. To those wanting more rah-rah pro-America patriotism, the above applies to you, too. Cap, for most of his existence in comics, has never been 'my country right or wrong'. He's believed in the ideals we cling to and the innate nobility of the nation, but is not some kind of jingoistic robot. An example is the writers getting it right in the Civil War series by having Cap lead the resistance to government registration and restriction of superheroes. The ideals, and the safety of individuals, are most important to him. I haven't read the most recent renditions of Cap; I understand that at least some of it has turned him into the ugly-American patriot asshole. I dismiss that as part of the stupid change-for-the-sake-of-it junk that permeates so much of present-day comicdom - idiots who think they know better than the kings who created these characters. So who knows what will actually show up on screen in this film - but let's all give it a chance, huh?
-
Yeah, I forgot The Wolfman, though to be fair that film was essentially directed by Mark Romanek and Joe Johnston essentially came into finish things up when he left the film. So, while it was a bit on the dull, too-much-CGI-side, I don't think that was his fault.
-
sorry but that is true.
-
Who needs some fucked up secret society when you've got good old fashioned nazis.
-
Just catching the sarcasm in reference to Jumanji. Just curious, what is it that you disliked about it so much?
-
Everyone tries to get wealthier and more powerful at the expensive of others (rich and poor alike). It's called competition and if you didn't have woman parts you wouldn't be such a collectivist class warfare pussy like most of the posters here. You don't want equal opportunity you want equal outcome.
-
And didn't know Cap uses guns.
-
Wow, this thread is knee-deep in delusional lefties. After successfully using your media accomplices to demonize Karl Rove, Haliburton, Diebold, chemtrails, 911 "truth" and other paranoid delusions of nefarious evil, the Koch brothers are your new Emannuel Goldstein. you always have to have one, don't you? Grow up. Get real jobs and families. Gold Bless America. That is all.

It's like he's sticking his head through some sort of digital sheet
by MooseMalloy
But that's besides the point because this TRAILER IS HOT! And God Bless the U.S.A.!!
-
You call what's going on in our country 'competition,' which is not quite true, especially when some not only start a few yards before someone else, but their so-called competition is hobbled. And there is very little "equal opportunity" in this country. That's little more than a propaganda line that people use when things get uncomfortable about what oftentimes goes on. And I don't think anyone is talking about equal outcomes, but instead equal chances, for a change. And in case you think that I am taking primarily about people of color, there are lots of poor white people in places like Appalachia, West Virginia (where I have family), and many other places in this country that can easily prove you wrong.
-
this looks great, hopefully it'll be as good as the trailer.. still nervous about GL though
-
I could do Chris Evans all day!
-
TROLLOLOLOLOL
-
I am woefully ignorant about the character...I VERY much enjoy comic book characters and movies but never really followed Captain America so I was surprised when I saw him busting through the door shooting up the place. Is his use of guns consistent with the comics?
-
That man is awesome and an excellent casting choice as Red Skull. I'm looking forward to him being the bad guy again and not as fucking Megatron in another 1.75 hour Michael Bay orgasm.
-
Ok so I'm commenting on a lot...per usual... 1. Anyone else wanna watch Small Soldiers after listening to Tommy Lee Jones do the Patton lines? I did...and that movie still rocks. 2. The Mr. Stark line is genius...when I heard it I was like wait what?...ya...its awesome and I'm glad Stark is a helper in this and not a big shot yet. 3. Sooooo glad they're going with Evans playing the nerd/scrawny guy that actually appreciates the power and muscle instead of the "lets bang" Human Torch idea....I went from 215 in 7th grade to 134 in Junior year High school, and now im testing to be a cop and i put on muscle and its great to see that he's treating this as a gift. 4. The trailer was perfect...I completely agree with you headgeek...the backstory took center stage which is what trailers are friggin supposed to do...I'm tired of all these movies showing EVERYTHING before I see the film. 5. I will now go watch Rocketeer cuz this trailer had such a great WW2 vibe I gotta watch it a few more times and then make some popcorn and see one of my favorite movies growing up. 6. The shield hit in slow mo was very "300-ish" wasn't it??

$260 mill domestically, $200 mill Internationally, Not ever being better than TDK.
by CeejayNightwing
Not ever getting closxe to TDK in production quality or Box Office numbers, anyone thinking so is in la la land. Captain America isn't remotely as popular as Batman, no Marvel Superhero is. Plus the sheer Americanism of Captain America will make this so unpopular on too many territories around the world, You Yanks have no idea how campy and unappealing Captain America is to non Americans and how your governments over the last 30 years has made American-patriotism one of the most disliked aspects around the world, even to the point of utter hate! TDK made over a billion dollars worldwide, this movie doesn't have a chance in hell of making even half of that.
-
That was a perfect trailer!!! THIS is now my most anticipated movie of 2011.
-
This looks Amazing...
-
Just joshin' - that looks like the tits!
-
seen from the trailers.lets see if this queue will change with more upcoming trailers from those movies.
-
Love it! This trailer pushes all the right buttons. Been a big fan of Cap since I was a lad in the 70's. Great to see him handled with such respect. Hope the movie looks half as good as this ass-kicking trailer!
-
america rocks...i would be more than happy to give you a legit legal work visa to come over and see just how awesome it is...i say legal cuz i think illegal immigrants are friggin assholes that need to be dragged back to their country whether it be germany, poland, mexico, or canada....illegal means 1 friggin thing...against the law... That being said i really dont care what some theater goer's views in Libya are towards this movie....Capt America is friggin awesome and even tho I like Batman and thought DK was one of the best movies made in the last decade i am so excited for this movie, especially after this perfect trailer, a vast improvement over the superbowl spot. This talkback is for the trailer, not for views on America...you don't hear me tellin you you're ass wouldn't exist right now if it wasn't for AMERICAN soldiers saving ur mommy and daddy from the Nazis, so dont be hatin on my country. As for this movie...i bet it beats Iron Man at the box office. Still watching Small Soldiers btw...if you don't know why you didnt read my earlier comment.
-
WTF... Is Tommy Lee Jones trying to replay his character from "The Fugitive" & " US Marshals" .. It sure sounds like he is...

Never was a Cap Fan outside of the Avengers, but it looks great. I can't

And back in the day, yeah he used gun. um he's a soldier, why wouldnt he??? lol.
-
There should be a Marvel film featuring the Original Torch from back in the 40s. He was so cool. An android who burst into flames whenever he was introduced into an environment with oxygen, and had to learn to control it as well as learn how to be human while fighting the likes to the Nazis, the Sub-Mariner, and the public. And let's not forget Torro, his lil pahtner!

My first, last, and only moment of trollishness here...
by kisskissbangbang
...but sherlock holmes ii was being pretty trollish himself. If he'd even qualified it by saying that _some_ of our soldiers were "the most racist, fear-ridden cowardly arseholes who ever walked the face of the earth" (doubtless true), I'd have shrugged it off. But nuance clearly wasn't his goal; broadbrush slurs were. The British had cowardly appeasers of fascism as Prime Minister and King at one point; they also had Winston Churchill. Guess who I choose to judge England by? Their best and not their worst. Do us the same simple courtesy.

That bowler derby and handlebar mustache has to belong to Dum Dum Dugan. But where was Sgt. Nick Fury as his Howling Commandos came in the door with Cap?

This looks great. Wonderful stories about your hero grandfather, rebel scumb...
They were heroes, despite what the true fascists and socialists say. They are the ones who seem to denigrate everyone, but are the first to put people in camps and run from a fight.
Don't be surprised if we see such things again.
May God watch over us all...
-
Fuck that, Cap was right, he had his values right. Iron Man was "right" too, just not the right "right". Make sense? I was on Cap's side the whole way.
-
Cap had tony in the end, but he couldnt kill his friend because that meant betraying everything he was... and tony even agreed that he was wrong... The govt was doing the same thing they did to the muties. it wasnt fair.. Cap all the way!

Captain America is fascist propoganda? Shut your fucking mouth!
by antonphd
If Captain America was inspirational to any of the Americans who fought and/or died in WW2 then the creators deserve to be praised for it. The United States is responsible for it's share of horrors but fighting and dying to stop the Axis powers was one of our finest moments in our history. I'm a fucking liberal and I am filled with fucking pride watching a Captain America trailer on the same day that we are in Libya helping people fight for their freedom from the oppression of another genocidal monster.
-
This is the trailer they should have played during the Super Bowl. This is awesome.

'Rebel Scum', Your grandfather sounds like an amazing guy. It's a good thing he wasn't born further south here in America or else it would be considered ok for pompous assholes like 'Sherlock Holmes ii' and 'assymuffjizz' to call him a coward, a racist, or a fascist without anyone giving a shit. It's a good thing so many people on this site think that where you're born is more important that what you do, or else his memory and his deeds wouldn't stand for much, would they? And for those who make a point of going on anti-America rants on every Captain America talkback; The fact is that, whatever the intentions of our government for getting involved in WW2, the men who enlisted (many who were, themselves, fathers), did not have to do jack shit in Europe, but just like 'Rebel scum's grandfather, they went anyway and many of them died in the name of freedom defending a country they didn't live in and people they never met or even shared a common language with. So fuck you. You have no way of knowing If one of our so-called 'racist, fascist, cowardly' American grandfathers just so happened to save the lives of your forefather, allowing you to be born in the first place. I seriously doubt half of the bitches on this talkback would have even half the spine to put their own asses on the line to save someone elses life. ALL of the allied forces who died in service, regardless of their nationality, deserve respect for their sacrifice, and fuck your own petty xenophobia. Your not worth half of what they were.
-
and if they'd had made this a movie set in moder days, I wouldn't care. But as they've set it during WW2 makes it more appealing to me. I do believe, that it might be a selling point for this movie out side US as well.

they chose a scrawny reject and not a guy that was already in good shape. Wouldn't that make an even better Capt. America? But this still looks pretty good.
-
the superbowl spot (though the score is dull). I still say the costume design for Cap is a failure, and will be the most noticeable negative aspect, unless the real score is a dud.

Don't see any real cutting edge action.
-
So the U.S. Government has Stanley Tucci create supersoldiers for them and then gets upset when his Project Destiny stops the core of the earth from spinning? I really hope this is a stealth prequel to "The Core".
-
Tommy Lee Jones? Stanley Tucci? Hugo Weaving? Not only does it have a kick-ass cast, the style looks excellent too. Maybe this summer won't be so bad after all (once we've got Bay's latest fail out of the way anyway).
-
So putting Cap in a movie about The Avengers, a team he is closely linked with, is a bad idea? Maybe it's wrong to put Spider-Man in a Spider-Man movie too?
-
The way that Steve Rogers is shown as brave but not strong before the experiment... the use of Stark's father... Tommy Lee Jones.... Dialogue like "..Personally escort Adolf Hitler to the gates of Hell"...the flash of the Red Skull.... the action scenes... Man, this movie is going to be absolutely awesome. It's leapt up to my number one most want to see movie, with X-Men just behind. 2011 is shaping up to be a great year for superhero movies!

Viggeo, you linking and praising hackneyed fan trailers
by RobertoInfiniteTHEMoonLander
does not give you much credibility. And did you really post a timestamp by timestamp analysis of a 2 minute trailer of a Captain America movie trashing it for its cinematography and music and acting? Wow. I thought I was a dork. You take the cake bud. And you are not balancing anything out. You're just being a raging douche, knocking something people are excited about. But please, continue patting yourself on the back for being the cool, rebellious "Equalizer". Fucking dork.
-
comes another cool comic book movie. The Rocketeer is fucking amazing. "Hand over ze rocket or i'll blow her brains... ALL OVER ZE CABIN!!!!"
-
"Not lies, Jenny. It vas achting!" THE ROCKETEER rocks!
-
You're an obnoxious turd and even if you have valid points (although you also claimed that the first 5 minutes of Rocketeer is better than the ENTIRETY of this movie - that isn't out until July) and I don't agree with you at all, the way you're coming off - a self important douchebag with an air of superiority - isn't supporting your cause. You're just a dork who reads movie news websites and regurgitates catch phrases and generic criticisms for movie trailers in an attempt to sound cutting edge and cool because you're going against popular opinion. Really and honestly, you have fucked up taste for posting that amateur fan trailer. My God.
-
Would be the icing on the cake if these two made an appearance!
-
You're joking right?

How can you "get" Captain America (and comic superheroes) enough to be interested and still think this looks terrible? I don't understand. It's not high drama, but it is fairly accurate to the source material. And better-looking than much of it.

by RobertoInfiniteTHEMoonLander
After all, who has time to make multiple posts for hours and hours about something they DON'T like and act like their opinion is the be all end all? The Superbowl trailer had me concerned, but I am excited again by this new one. It seems like they're boiling the character down to his essence and that's ALWAYS a good thing. I have faith in Marvel Studios since they seem to be protective of their characters (in a good way). While it doesn't look too "period", I'm sure we'll get an explanation on why the tech is so advanced in the movie. I'm guessing Skrull technology just like in the first volume of the Ultimates.
-
YOU WILL THINK WHAT I DO! I WILL POST A BILLION TALKBACK MESSAGES TO TELL YOU WHAT I THINK IN CASE YOU DIDN'T GET IT THE FIRST TIME! LOOK AT THIS SHIT FAN TRAILER I'VE DREDGED UP FROM YOUTUBE AND LISTEN TO ME RAMBLE ON ABOUT HOW AWESOME IT IS COMPARED TO THE REAL TRAILER! LISTEN TO ME! LISTEEEEN TO MEEEEEEEEEEEEE! YOU WILL LISTEN TO ME, GOD DAMN IT!!!!!
-
I thought it captured Cap perfectly and gave that sense of adventure that Rocketeer had. I love the retro sci-fi look of the lab, it kinda reminded me of the Rocket Ranger computer game from way back. Brilliant move to keep the ww2 setting, most other studios would probably have gone the easy way and "modernized" it. And to me it looked pretty damn "real" as far as an alternate reality period movie goes. I was that scrawny little comic book nerd again when I saw the trailer this morning. Good job!

-
Well I hope she's alright, along with any other family you have in Japan.
-
I have to wonder will they have a young WHITE Nick Fury in there? Just to fuck with our heads? Somehow Sam Jackson doesn't strike me as the "Infinity formula" type.
-
Nice trailer, Evans comes through as powerful and thankfully no silly comedy touches. Should be a good old romp... The FX on the mini Evans are good, the grafting on of the Evans face onto the other persons body is done really well, especially as they have shrunk his face down as well. And no, the super soldier Evans is just him pumped and oiled up for effect when he comes out of the tank. No CG..
-
I'd kind of like to see a white nick fury in that, thus making 'nick fury' kind of a title name, not really a person...kind of the same explanation they use somewhat on james bond 007.
-
Why doesn't anybody try to debate you? Because you're fucking annoying. Think about it. It says more about you than, oh, almost every other person in here. Jesus H. Christ man, it's a trailer for a comic book movie. It has 2 minutes to get the idea across, so yeah, it comes off as sound bites and not a fleshed out movie because, uh, that's what it is. As far as it not looking realistic... like I said, it's a comic book movie. I... I really don't know how else to explain this. If you're pissed because you're expecting Schindler's List or The Pianist or whatever, it's your own damn fault. Oh, and about your STANDARDS you love to bemoan. Now I know you're spineless, based on how effortless it is for you to suck your own dick. Okay, I've spent more than enough time on your sorry ass. This movie looks pretty good; maybe our best chance at getting a Marvel movie based on and motivated by the characters instead of the gizmos or sci-fi plot. I'm excited about that, but... we'll see. It's just a trailer, after all. Thor looks goofy as shit; so does GL. I don't trust Fox/Rothman any further than I can throw them with the X-Men franchise, so I'm expecting fail there, too. I have my fingers crossed for this one.

It actually looks really cool to me. I love the fact that they were brave enough to set this in WWII. I agree with the doubts about how well it's going to play internationally though... that said, if it makes $250m domestic, which it probably will, that will more than likely be enough.

Will there be a nod to Phineas Horton and his Torch/Vision?
by Chewtoy
I notice one shot in the trailer is outside a futuristic "World's Fair" type science exhibition. If I were Marvel, there is no way I wouldn't at least drop some posters for his demonstration in the background. I actually liked the way Geoff Johns handled it in his Vision miniseries by having Horton's Human Torch being touted as his "Vision of the Future" while he was still building him (and obviously before he burst into flame). It allowed the writer to draw that connection to the Vision's first creator without mentioning all of the Human Torch history that was irrelevant to the miniseries. If Marvel can use a Human Torch in future Cap films, then I hope they put in a reference to him. If not, then name drop the Vision instead.

A good story background for Steve, WWII, super solider serum, Red Skull, Hydra, Howling Commandos, Mr. Stark and the right costume and the shield. Actually, this goes beyond what a Cap film should be and may actually be my new must see film of the summer replacing Thor.

Looks good...but that "weak man" line is kind of bullshit
by blackmantis
It's a nice sentiment, but really, every one is born a weak man. Nobody is born with muscles. In fact, I'd say the guy who works his ass of to get the muscles he has knows their value more than the guy who is gifted with them. I'll be seeing this, though.

If they can shrink down Chris Evans, they can shrink your 6'3 ass down and finally give us the 5'3 Wolverine we deserve.

How can anyone say - with a straight face - this looks like ass?
by Astronut
I mean, if you're someone who has always wanted to see a legitimate, big-budget Captain America film, you should be fairly pleased at the very least. I would think. If you're *not* someone who gives a shit about Captain America, then your opinion as to whether or not this looks good, bad, or great is pretty irrelevant. Seriously.

Captain America look like a fascist asshole. Are the trailer people this retard?
by AssyMuffJizz
-
A trailer for a movie that makes me feel like a little kid. That's the fuck I'm talking about. THOR looks pale in comparison, as far as giving me that tingly feeling. Last time that happened was probably when I saw JURASSIC PARK for the first time, or when they released the STAR WARS special editions in the theater (first time seeing in the theater, mind you).

I've been naughty sir!
-
...that they add a teaser at the end of Thor showing Cap being found in the ice. I guess there was that bit cut out of the Incredible Hulk...
-
I've been nervous because previous teasers have not shown Cap/Steve delivering any actual dialogue, which really seemed like a red flag to me. With this trailer, we finally see a little of Evans' performance. I don't hate it. I had really low expectations for Evans, but now I'm much more optimistic that this could be a decent movie. (I'm still disappointed that John Slattery isn't reprising his role as Howard Stark. Oh well. I guess you can't have everything.)
-
don't be an idiot. Read a comic. From this century. His name was Captain America because he represented American ideals in WWII. His first issue had him punching Hitler. He also fought some pretty racist depictions of Japanese. Fine. He was a propaganda tool. But damn, from the 60s on the character has evolved. He's given up his mantle when he lost faith in the government, he's fought on the side of right, even when that side wouldn't be considered 'patriotic' - even when the injustices are committed by other Americans. It's about ideals. And there have been plenty of nationalistic superheroes and villains throughout history, from various countries. But America has been the most mythologized, so this character represents that mythic ideal, of fighting for what's right. And it's not like he doesn't make mistake. So you're going to criticize a character because of a name, instead of that character's substance?
-
He would even be called Captain Lusitan (look it up). And i thank the lucky stars such bullshitwas never created in my country. We already had too much fascism bullshit in my country's 20th century history already. And you know why it's very easy for a Portuguese to detect fascism? Because we lived it. For real. We know how it's look like. And why we aren't that easily looked with shiny trinkets, like you Captain AmeriKa fascism bullshit. Fascism cames in more shapes and forms then just a swastika, you know? Give me a break, will ya? Fuck, the knee jerk reactions you are having already half proves my point.
-
than the Rocketeer. I've been saying this for months and no one will answer me. Who was this made for? No one is going to go see this. The 40 year old fringe comic fans don't add up to a lot of box office. Bombs away.

... would think of a comic book character called CAPTAIN FRANCE or CAPTAIN SOVIET UNION? What would be your crack ups? Captain Surrender? Captain Commie Under The Bed Wants Tom Rape My Ass At Night?Deal with it, Captain America reads very badly to all foreigners. DEAL WITH IT. At 13, you might think nothing of thw character. But as you grow up, you realsie how fuckign wrong it is to flander jingoism by putting the name of your country in a comic character and then have it be the symbolof everythignthat is good. Because there was never a wrongdoing from your country? Becasue your country never did soemthign wrong to others, or even your own population? You never comit illegal invasion of others countries? And no, i'm not taliing today. Captasin America is at best a stupidly naive creation, at worst is fucking fascist. DEAL WITH IT! And don't even give me that fucking stupid reason of the democratic values of americ,a bla blabla. What, you think you are the only country to suport them? Wake up, dudes! You see any other country do this same bullshit? GROW THE FUCK UP! Captain Gaymerika. His whole name and deal reeks of fascism, and his sidekicked is called Bucky?? GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK! Captain Gaymerika. Wake up, the cold war is over already, and you voted for Geroge W. Bush twice. Your moral superiority died a long time ago. DEAL WITH IT. And oisin5199, as for that stupid retard bullshit about "side of right", that experession alone is a demosntration of ignorance. and blindness. Deal with it, the only cvountry right now that exists int he whole world that suffers from a bad case of elitism is the USA. Again, and as a very tiny example of that, you have a character called CAPTAIN AMERICAN. That's elitism. Crystal clear example. I rest my case. And stop with that paranoid "they are all agaisnt us" bullshit. You only have yourselves to blame when you elected that ape Bush twice. Your new president is making wonders to return the USa back to the world. but it seems many in here are getting resentful of him, and can't wait to bash him right and left. i wonder what's the correlation between Bush voters/neo-con sympathisers/Obama bashers and Captain America fans, or those that can't have a clue why the character is bad. GIVE ME A BREAK! Ohhhh, big bad european doesn't like USA!!!! Ohhhh, big bad european that deosn't see USA as totally good and awesome!!! Ohhh, big bad european!!! Uhuhuhuhuhuh! Get real, man!
-
Agreed. Plus, young Americans are NOT patriotic anyway. They will view this whole thing as goofy. Will bomb in Europe, Asia, and everywhere else. Again. Who was this made for?

I had my concerns early on, but WOW! JUST FUCKING WOW! Now THAT is Captain Fucking America!
-
the more I like it. In fact, I get chills when the dude says "Now, Mister Stark..." Freaking SO EXCITED TO SEE THIS now!
-
Ummmmm......America is not one race. In fact we are the most racially diverse country in the fucking world. So it really smacks of ethocentric ignorance to say a character named Captain America is racist. I mean CHRIST! What a retarded fucking turd you are! And Captain America stands for America's goals, not it's actions. In one of his most famous stories, he goes AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT! Wake. The. Fuck. Up.
-
For them to be "seeming" to respect the source material, they really, really fucked up Bucky here. 1.) He's supposed to be younger. 2.) Bucky is thrust upon Cap AFTER he's already established himself as the face of America - - - Cap has reservations about him being so young, etc. 3.) As the war goes on, seeing this YOUNG kid - 18, 19 whatever, wearing a costume and KILLING people so routinely is a core part of Steve's memories of the war and of Bucky during the winter soldier and beyond. Bucky became Cap's best friend the more time they spent in the war. There was an innocence about Bucky when Cap first meets him and then we see Bucky being a normal, hot headed kid who gets in trouble during "try outs" or whatever. Having Bucky give Cap that talk before he's even turned into the super soldier is just the exact opposite of how this should have went down.

... who are bashing this film based on this trailer... I say screw you a thousand times. What in the hell do you want from this film... what did you expect? For the life of me I cannot figure out why you haters (and you are in the minority on this one) are pissing all over this. No one but your narrow-minded, picky, whiny-ass bitching selves. So shut the fuck up already.
-
Can't wait for it. I'm just a little annoyed that the trailer ends on the same scene as the teaser, that seems kind of lazy to me.

I am so there opening night. They captured the mood perfectly, and it looks like Chris Evans does a stellar job. He seems so earnest as Scrawny Steve, which is just right.
-
Fact. That's absolutely 100% fact-checked, guaranteed, and agreed by a wide ranging panel of independent experts. I quote from the study published this morning : - "...And, in conclusion we have found that anyone who isn't totally stoked about this film is a bum-munching man-lover, who spends their days furiously jacking off to Turkish prison movies". So there you have it - case closed, argument concluded. From this moment on, anyone in this thread who says anything negative about this project instantly outs themselves.

Paramount gave the July 4th date to Bay's Transformers 3...
by Chewtoy
Which I suppose I can understand from a business standpoint, especially since they get a much larger share of the box office of that flick than they do from the Marvel films. Still, I'm glad Disney bought out their distribution rights to all future Marvel films so that there won't be further conflicts of interest like that.
-
There have been other Captains attributed to their countries. Captain Britain is a wonderful, multi-faceted character with a long history. We judge these characters by how they were conceived, how they have evolved, and how they have been written. If Captain America existed, I would look up to him as someone who stands for our ideals with bravery most of us never test in our daily lives because we're free.

To celebrate that isn't aggressive. To ignore it is criminal. By Jingo, you're consciously blurring patriotism and symbolism — for me, a privilege of recognizing that I'm lucky to be born when and where I was born — with jingoism. In your line of thinking, we shouldn't have a flag.

I disagree. He has been consistently written as one of the most noble characters in any comic book universe. He's Marvel's Superman.

Sit this one out. Wait for the Captain Planet movie.

Assmuff: "... would think of a comic book character called CAPTAIN FRANCE or CAPTAIN SOVIET UNION?"
by kevinwillis.net
I'd think it is awesome. Can't wait to see Captain France. "Oh ho! Justice, you see. She is like a woman." Black bereted bad guys tasting the espresso of justice, and the ennui of history? That would be awesome. I'm so ready for Captain France. Just like Captain America is AWESOME!! In fact, I would love a totally pro-American, old-school Captain America movie, and a totally-pro American, old-school Superman movie, and a totally Europe-is-Awesome Captain France movie. I love genre movies. As I imagine most Americans who like genre movies do. If it's a good movie, I'd watch Captain Russia or Dr. Vienna or The Muscles from Brussels or the Belgian Avenger. Would love to. Do you ever get out of the house? Or does your head ever come out of your assmuff?

I might add that America is a particularly symbolic country, as it was founded with a specific set of ideals in mind. This is in contrast to most other nations, which were sort of randomly formed as various groups of people migrated around the world and fought each other. The USA was the first major modern democracy to arise, and so serves as an archetype for democracies in general. There are not many other countries like the USA in this sense. Really only the USSR comes to mind, having been founded in order to put in place a new system of government, based on a particular set of ideals. China did the same sort of thing, but they were following in Russia’s footsteps to some extent, and the symbolism isn’t as strong. So I think it would have made sense to have a Captain USSR, but for most other countries there wouldn’t be a clear worldview on which the superhero would base his actions. I guess you could have had a Kapitaen Deutschland in the 1930’s, but probably no one wants to see that nowadays (except maybe BSB).
-
Nick Fury's Howling Commandos were comprised of a changing group of elite soldiers from the various Allied countries. So when Cap teams up w/ the Howling Commandoes, he's fighting the fascists!!! The complainers' arguments have more holes than a sieve!
-
that they're not trying to whitewash the whole America part... completely down to a traditional uniform and what not. So many times there is a reflex reaction to try to whitewash and tone down... i.e. GI Joe(a European-centric Hero), David E. Kelly's Not-so-Wonder Woman, etc. Is it flag-waving? Is it jingo-istic? Yes. Well, welcome to comic books motherfuckers. Ever notice how no other country on Earth even thought making the funnybooks was cool, until we showed it could be done? Thats right.

When the Captain America comic first appeared back in 1941 it was only meant to capitalize on the WWII propaganda campaign that the America was being flooded with at the time. It made money for that cheap bastard Martin Goodman; then publisher of Timely comics (who would later become Marvel Comics). This film comes out at an interesting time. So, Cap is a fucking CAPITALIST. Eat that motherfucker.

... is a manual for fascism totalitarism. Disguised as a fun, if pedantic, adventure story. It's the only book i ever read which i wanted to throw against the wall in rage and frustration. America and the Bush administration during and after 9/11 was like a real life recreation of STARSHIP TROOPERS. Only the movie was played for laughs DELIBERATLY.

Usually you have to go to a certain type of website (and maybe pay some money) to see someone sucking their own dick to such a degree. Here's a tip: when you have to outline your Taste 'n' Insight resumé every other post - reminding everyone that you, and only you, are truly capable of reasoned debate and discussion, and that you're patterned after this or that critic or performer and that we simply aren't capable of grasping your greatness - it comes off a little desperate and weak. Nobody has an issue with people pointing out things they don't like. Just don't do it 20 times, in such an arrogant, boastful and off-putting manner. You're not as incisive or clever as you obviously think you are, so pull it back a few notches. You're not auditioning for some cool gig. You are, like everyone else here, some random, anonymous poster on an Internet movie forum. When it gets right down to it, nobody really gives a rip. News flash: the guys you proudly proclaim to pattern yourself after...they're all one-note dicks and not really anything to aspire to. So nobody's really all that impressed.

I didn't say that I PERSONALLY hate America, I said that Americanism is not very popular around the world. You need to learn to read and understand what you read without inserting your own opinions, its called being objective without bias! I have nothing against the American people, but your powers that be have made you one of the most disliked nations in the world. You're a huge country, your comics sell worldwide but not all of your characters are popular as others around the world. Captain America being a figurehead for the USA means he's popular on your domestic turf. But his patriotism is naturally a hindrance to his popularity elsewhere unlike a character like Batman for example who airs more concern for his city rather than his country. This is why Your comic heroes don't always make as much internationally as they do domestically, nothing overly Americana in its portrayal will do as well as something that is not. Initially my post was directed at the idiot who reckoned that Captain America will do bigger box office than TDK. Well TDK didn't do amazing box office internationally, it's $468 million is about $200 million less than the smallest earner in the top 10 all time movies. Spiderman 3 made over $500 million and on average most comic book movies don't even get far over $200 million around the world. Even Iron Man with all its success in the USA barely made over $300 million internationally. These are small overseas totals in comparison to what LOTR or Harry Potter for example do on a regular basis in the regions of $600-700 million which is why when extremely popular and well known characters like Spiderman and Batman to do well overseas, its becasue they've had so many adaptations over the years in cartoons, Live action shows and movie series to create that appeal and they are neither very "American" in their presentation. Unlike something like Superman who has had equal exposure yet becasue of his "Americanism" has made way less box office and popularity around the world (everyl Superman film made less than $200 million overseas). You can expect a comic character like Captain America to do as well as a film called Captain Germany, Captain South Africa or Captain India would do in the USA. He's your propaganda tool, not everybody else's!
-
Typical, american bad mouthing of a forergner. If you can'tm take the truth, get out of here! See the good thing about you guys in USA is that you get the best foreign stuff there. The bad thing about us foreigners is that we constantly get the shit made in USA, which most would call "Hollywood at it's usual business". You guys actually have it better. I wish none of the Mickey Bay movies would had ever been released outside USA. That would had been beyond awesome! Heaven is made of such blessings.
-
dvaderrip isn't listening. Whaddayamean, homos don't like superhero movies? Christian Bale, Chris Evans, Brandon Routh (yes, even the crap ones so lets also mention...) Ben Affleck, Toby McGuire (I hate Spiderman and always have) Hellboy (Yes, I fancy Ron Perlman, Hugh Jackman (the secrets is in the name) Erica Bana (more crap), Robert Downey, and throw in that super cutie mass-murderer Ozymandias too. Reasons everyhere.
-
I rarely comment on these boards, for obvious reasons, but you've pissed me off enough to decloak. For someone who seems to hate fascism so much, you sure act like one. You've refused to engage in civil debate any of the posters who've made valid points about the character of Captain America (especially the Civil War storyline, where HE FIGHTS THE AMERICAN GOVERNMENT that is trying to force all heroes to register), instead continually shouting your own opinion that must be right. Sounds pretty fascist to me. I'm pretty sure that any die-hard Cap fan would easily agree that the character had his origins in propaganda and American jingoism in WWII. But the character has grown beyond that, and he stands for the original American ideals back to the American revolution, i.e. an individual's right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Cap doesn't stand for the ideals of any one administration, and will even fight against them if they go astray. Read, learn, engage in civil debate, and then maybe I'd be willing to talk to you again. Recloaking.
-
Also, I called Captain America fascist. You will never see me utter such words for Batman and Spider-Man. And they're american.
-
And you are right, ceejaynightwing, a character called Captain America, in the eyes of the rest of the world, is very fucking fascist. Not to mention gay.

Is that a typical Portuguese viewpoint?

You know, after some reflection, I could totally see this. Vincent Cassel, all buffed up, in a kickass costume? Marion Cotillard as the female lead/love interest? Directed by Luc Besson? Fuck, that could rock. Liberté, Egalité, Fraternité, bitches!
-
Did you take my post above to be directed at you? If so, my apologies. I figured everyone who's followed this thread would know it was directed at someone a bit further up the list. Nothing in my post said anything about you, anything you've posted, or politics, or American this and foreign that. I don't care about any of that stuff, really. I was specifically addressing a particularly snotty, arrogant poster from earlier who just went on and on. Or is that poster a "foreigner" and that's all you can see? So I'm really not even sure why you're jumping on my case, other than, from what I've read from you in this post, that's just kinda your overall personality/approach (perpetually indignant, hyper-political and always on the offensive)? I wasn't even talking about/to you in my original post, so why don't you relax a bit. This forum doesn't have a quoting feature, otherwise I would've cited all the other guy's gibberish. The other guy, I simply ignore. My fly wasn't down, but thanks for looking...

Does he say this stuff as he kicks that crap out of the people he's fighting like in Marvel vs. Capcom?

Sorry if my last post to you sound angry, which it is, but i get all upset and angry when i see anybody eqauting stupid with fun or good or whatever. I know I can seem arrogant. i remeber one thing in read in a David Cronenberg interview, in which he admits that he is very arrogant, and it's his arrogance that helps him operate as the creative person he is. The arrogance to know that he is right in thinking and doing as he does. I know exactly what he means. But there is this thing, is it arrogance when you have a strong conviction and you cand efend it in lengh? Is that really arrogance? Becasue of you ask me, real arrogance is when one says and thinks one thing and supports with nothing. Thats' real arrogance if you ask me. Maybe what you call arrogance from me is more truly puzzlement and disbelief.
-
about Captain America using drugs rather than training? From this trailer it looks like they've done enough character work and made him REALLY puny. So they might get away with it. This could stuff GL and Thor, but I still don't think it'll touch X-Men for quality. That said, if Fox don't sort out their marketing people, this will reign at the box-office.

After gathering a great deal of research, I have concluded scientifically that 90% of members of AICN are either openly or latently homosexual. This means that if you scroll up 10 posts, only 1 of the posts has been made by a heterosexual. It's simple math, people. Face it - 9 out of 10 of you are bent.

He has all this punkass atitude, and then he throws a literary quote in lieu of a joke. Mostly, Shakespearean references. How cani not like this guy? How can i not like this guy? It's like those action movies where they put a baddie who's literate and quotes from Shakespeare or Oscar Wilde or D.H. Lawrence from memory. The intention is to make him look snobish so that the audiences can root for the blue collar hero more. It backfires and only makes one actualyl admire the vilalin for his inteligence and education. I call it The Hans Gruber Effect. AICN quipsters like the_choppah who uses Shakesperean quotes in their quips? Consider me a fan and friend for life.

So, should they change the name of a 70 year old iconic character that IS known around the world as Captain America, even by people who've never read the comic, so it doesn't "look fascist"? Seriously Dude, get a grip. it's a COMIC BOOK MOVIE for Chrissakes
-
But I've been burned by so many slick trailers I'll wait for the reviews.

Love that they appear to really take their time with multiple scenes of frail Steve Rodgers too. That will get the audience on this guy's side quickly. Judging from those brief scenes of vulnerability and earnestness before the experiment, Chris Evans seems to get what this is about. ...an I like the idea of Cap with a gun...it just makes sense. If they tried to have him taking on 20 Nazi's with just the shield and somersaults, he'd get laughed off the screen! Yeah, this super soldier serum's great an all...but I get a gun too right? ...can't wait!

...even though this will be considered summer popcorn entertainment first, I hope this film also manages to properly honor men like your grandfather and the many sacrifices they made.
-
As much as I'm loathe to engage with an obvious juvenile who comes up with some pornographic name for himself, you're just so completely wrong it's not even funny. I'm not a jingoist. I'm not one of the many here who would say "America - love it or leave it." I think the actions of this country are certainly questionable from its very beginnings and we have a long history of fucked up stuff and bad mistakes. As someone here said, it's about the ideals of America, not its actions. But the very idea of America itself (which is why it's Cap America not Cap U.S.) was a fantasy cooked up by Europeans who wanted to turn the land into a projection for whatever ideals they had about liberty and democracy, the promised land, or utopia. Do I believe the bullshit that the Bush administration set up about 'spreading democracy' when it came to invading Iraq? Hell, no. I don't even believe the bullshit about American soldiers 'protecting our freedoms' overseas. I honor the sacrifices the soldiers have made but I don't support the agenda they serve. but the point is that you're foaming at the mouth about fascism, when the very comic book that this movie is based on has for years explored questions of fascism, America's culpability, and the accountability of the American spirit in these world events. Steve Rogers has done way more than just punch Hitler. He's questioned himself probably more than any other superhero (with the exception of Mark Millar's iteration of the character in the Ultimates. Millar intentionally made that Steve Rogers a jingoistic asshole. But fuck him). So until you have anything besides prejudice and ignorance to back up your claims, then shut the fuck up about fascism. You clearly have no understanding of the source material. You can't judge 75 years of stories about a character by its first few years. But clearly you can be a douchebag, so by all means, carry on.
-
There definitely is that careful balance for WW2 films to strive for of being entertaining, while not making light of a really tragic world event that there are still a lot of people alive to remember.
-
The child in me and the comics Fanboy that I am will absolutely be loving this, the grown up and intellectual side of me will be cautious. It will be up to JJ & the actors to do a nice balancing act with this film, not letting the haters' perspective damp the spirit while keeping true to Super Hero lore. I miss the old costume, though I hear they're making "Fun of it" within the USO show (hope this is false). I used to be not too keen on this project, but this latest Trailer has shown me a bit more of the Director's take on the material. That being said, I think it's a great starting point to pinpoint it retro, and let the film grow from there. I used to be 10% on board, now I'm 60%.
-
Your mother was crushed by a flagpole, wasn't she? Or perhaps you had a puppy that choked on a Captain America action figure? Close? Oh, I got it; your mother that choked to death on an American's pole? Her muffled "safe word" fell upon the deaf ears of the pompous American, too lazy to learn her language. That's it, isnt it? I knew I was close. That shit's epic. There's no way someone can be such an ignorant, close-minded, and xenophobic anti-American propaganda tool like yourself without some sort of flawed or otherwise traumatic upbringing. Or maybe you just grew up so enamored with your grand-pappies Nazi-youth stories and vivid bedtime readings of 'Mein Kampf', that you cannot function on any other level than this? That would answer quite a few questions, such as your obsession with fascism and inability to grasp logic which goes against your blind prejudice. You know, for someone who hates america so much you sure do sound like an old-fashioned oakie redneck, spouting off about minorities. Or a crazed Jesus-freak picketing a funeral. It's weird how similar you fanatical types are, regardless of your chosen obsession.
-
It isn't *about* Cap, it's about the journey of Steve Rogers, and that's the whole point of the character. And unlike the TDK trailers and publicity, which made you forget Batman was a character in his own movie, this trailer keeps the Red Skull where he belongs, lurking in the shadows. I enjoyed the first Iron Man but have been "meh" about the Marvel movies since-- but I'm looking forward to this one.

I wish they would cut the love story out (although it is pretty sweet that Steve goes from weakling to banging the hottest chick in the movie) and use real Nazis instead of Hydra...but catching the shield and the cool look of the super soldier container are very nice. Well, assy, apologies. After checking the Dark Knight tb, it's clear...
by kisskissbangbang
...that you really are asimovlives. But you sound like yourself over there, and not over here. From the way you talk about it, and if I didn't know better, I'd think your bete noir, JJ Abrams, had directed Captain America. I can't quite see why you're calling a hero who made his rep fighting against the epitome of fascism a fascist. Just being a national hero, or symbolizing a nation's ideals, doesn't make that hero a fascist. Jingoistic, perhaps, but not a fascist. You're Portuguese; was Vasco de Gama a fascist? Is your national epic starring him, the Lusiads, fascist? Was its author, Camoes? And as others have pointed out, Cap in the comics has fought against his own government. In the '70s, he fought a character who turned out to be (though they couldn't make it explicit) Richard Nixon. He did it again in Civil War (though wrong-headedly and in ways that were out of character; but I blame that on Mark Millar). How many national heroes take on the Powers That Be in their own country, in addition to bringing the hurt to the usual (foreign) suspects? (Homer does imply the Trojans are better and more sympathetic than the Greeks, which is amazing in a national epic, but that's not quite the same thing.) Someone who lives in the most powerful nation on Earth can't expect it to be loved all the time, and I'm not expecting you to fall in line and certify our own self-image. But whatever our flaws, and we have them, this film is set at a time when a great but flawed nation was fighting an absolutely monstrous regime. If we can't celebrate our heroism then in a mythic image, when can anybody? Or are all legends that evoke national pride to be shunned as "fascist"? That'd be consistent, at least; but it wipes out, as well as Cap, de Gama, the Cid, Roland, Arthur and Horatio at the bridge. As a student and lover of mythology, I think that's a bridge too far.

mr ahole ramirez (can't believe some of the names I type here)...
by kisskissbangbang
...after reading a couple of dozen posts in the Dark Knight Pic of the Day tb, I'm now convinced it is asi. He says he couldn't sign in under his usual name, and assumes he was banned because he accused AICN of taking money to praise Abram's Star Trek. You gotta admit, that sounds like something he'd conclude. Otherwise, he sounds relatively calm and reasonable over there; over here, not so much. I guess he just doesn't like Captain America (though he says he did when he was a kid). Fair enough; I don't like The Punisher (well, not as a hero, anyway). I just don't understand the accusation of fascism. And by the way (and this isn't directed at you, mr ramirez, but other comments above) , I have problems (like a lot of people) with Starship Troopers, but I don't think it's fascist. Militaristic, sure, but not fascist. People would do well to look up the definition. As Inigo told Vizzini, "I do not think that word means what you think it means."

I found this on google images: http://fc06.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2010/154/9/5/Avengers_Movie_Poster_by_frmjewduhh.jpg Cool to see them all together. I'm actually surprised I'm as hyped for these movies as I am. In my comic reading days, I was more of an X-men/Spiderman fan, I never cared that much about Capt/Ironman/Hulk/Thor etc. But in a way thats good, has made these new Marvel movies a really fresh expirence for me. If they have The Vision in Avengers 2, they should cast Keanu Reeves
-
Hopefully the Red Skull or some other Nazi says that. Good trailer. Some of the skinny Steve shots need a little work, but Evans looks like he's game and the uniform looks great. I hope we get a lot more Weaving and Buck in the next trailer
-
Awesome. Together we'll rule AICN with a limp wrist.

Super Patriot - the jingoistic fascist that some misguided individuals mistake Cap for. Flag Smasher - he who despises flags and flag-wearing super-heroes. Hate Monger - hates the world because of his pointy head.

You, ma'am, are the gayest Talkbacker. And one of the funniest. Your gay is so strong that I feel like switching teams after reading your posts. Do I have to like sex with men in order to be gay, or can I just say I'm gay becuase gay is cool?
-
...I was heading out when I typed that last comment and didn't have time to mull over the relationship between Cap and the Carters; the moment I got in the car, I knew I'd misspoke (or miswrit). When she first appeared, Peggy Carter was Sharon's older sister, not mother or grandmother. As time passed, that made Sharon too old; so now she's been retconned as Peggy's niece. Still quite the soap opera any way you look at it (though I liked the spin you put on it).
-
I don't know whether you're trolling or what, but on the off-chance that you're not and are just an extremely angry person, can I just put it out there that I disagree with whatever it is that you're doing here even though I understand some of the points you're making? Yes, America is not perfect, and it has a history of some well-documented abuses, some of which have been powered by propaganda. But this movie is about a (super-powered) soldier fighting Nazis in World War II. How is that concept something that could possibly piss anybody off? I can understand not caring as much if you come from another country, and I understand that politics makes everybody angry all the time, but you probably need to learn to pick your battles better if this particular story (the Allied Forces fighting Germany) is what you use to talk about imperialism.
-

-

-
I read the original run of Sgt. Fury, and there was nothing "International" about them. Fury was probably from Flatbush, New York. Dum Dum Duggan was American-Irish, I believe. "Izzy" Cohen was Jewish New York. Dino Manelli, American. "Reb" was Southern, maybe Tennessee. And "Gabe" was black, not sure from where. No Japanese members, although there was a bad-ass Nisei group they brushed against at least once. I don't know if they ever revived them, but the Howlers fought in Korea, and a special Vietnam issue as well. Fury came in on S.H.E.I.L.D., and they eventually explained his lack of aging with some typical Marvel hand-waving. And I mean that in an affectionate way. But I have zero memory of them ever being anything but 100% American.
-
Trailer looks solid but from a Cap fan's POV I already know how Steve becomes Cap, I would have liked to see the trailer show us a little more of Cap in costume+action. Not this excited for a comic movie since first Spider-man.

Minor details. But loving the trailer nonetheless.
-
Interesting, the trailer itself has an interesting kind of vibe, like in a Batman Begins "first half of the movie is really deep and thoughtful and the second half becomes total fucking cliched one liner fest stupid action movie bullshit" sort of way.. maybe it's just specific to the trailer, but the scenes shown lead me to believe the movie itself might follow that formula.. the first reveal of Captain America will be really cool, the movie will have built up to it, the scene will kick ass, and it'll just go downhill from there, I like the CapPod though. And fuck god enough with the fucking Stark shit, now in my mind the movie goes from what could possibly be cool and heroic and he's not being a hero he's being something more to oh here they are shoehorning in more stupid shit in their endless corporate greed. Well, yeah I guess it did work out really well, Samuel L Jackson has really made the whole "Avenger Theme" of the Marvel movies REALLY pop, I mean fuck christ BRILLIANT move, and paying off REALLY well.
-
And anyone who disagrees with me is a cunt.
-
I like the idea of a more plausible superhero that is not completely invulnerable and all powerful. I think this is why I don't care much for Superman, and why I am going to have a hard time with Thor. Give me Batman, Iron Man and Captain America any day!

The only thing -- please cut out the guy lowering his sunglasses during the transformation scene. That looks terrible. Everything else makes this movie seem like the best comic book film since X-Men 2.

Too bad Thor couldn't have done at least 1/4 of this. All they had to fucking do was adapt maybe the first and second comics with Thor and Loki. Idiots couldn't even do that. Likes: Shield Howling Commandos The look is rather authentic, I like The lab stuff reminds me of the comic, like exactly Looks rather faithful to the origin Red skull has a red skull Dislikes/don't know about: Skinny Rogers looks fake. Head just doesn't look proportionate with that body for some reason Red skull not becoming red skull in film. I'd have preferred mask or the change in the film, not a mask, then after. Sorry, lame. Red skull w/ brown hair (lol) I'll definitely be watching this. And I had been against this film 2 months ago.
-
Without question!
-
Thor may look like good movie sure - and I like this Captain America but surely this year big movie will either be.... Batman 3: Rise Again Spiderman 4: Turn off that light The new Dan Shanks movie - not sure of title yet. Hope Thor better than that last film with hammer in it - think it called Sledghammer Maniac. Captain America looks good but continuity a little out in the trailer - one minute he skinny next he beefcake.

Also like that it doesnt appear to be mimicking any particular style or trend, it kind of 'has its own thing' going on. This is the kind of Marvel tone i wanted Incredible Hulk to be more like going with a guy like Louis Leterrier's sensibilities, once it became clear they wouldn't really be representing the psychological mindset of Bruce Banner/Hulk; more visceral, punchy and exciting, with a good sense of set-stage design/direction etc... Just a trailer of course, but a good one
