    Sigh...

    by prankster

No Buffy. No Norm. No Futurama. No King of the Hill. Even X-Files got shut out this year. And while I don't watch it, I'm sure people are going to be upset at the exclusion of "Freaks & Geeks". I can see how it's a crowded season, what with such brilliant contenders as "Dharma & Greg" and "Ally McBeal" (sarcasm) but still, do we *have* to cling to the illusion that the only television worth rewarding is either the safely conventional or the supremely high-minded? "The Sopranos" being a possible exception, but I've never seen it...stupid lack of cable...

I'm trying really hard to care....

    by deltahead

...and still failing. I pay more heed to the awards that go to specific genres (ie, special TV comedy associations, childrens programming, sci-fi, etc) because they focus narrowly enough to cover their area. Award shows that try to span the whole world of TV leave everyone feeling cheated. I'll have better things to do than watch the Golden Globes, even if it's just trimming my toenails. Peace.

    X-Files snubbed

    by spookyphile

All I can say is I won't be watching this year's awards. Regardless of the fact that season six of X-Files was probably arguably the worst season of the show, it DID have its good eps. Such were "Triangle," and the much-talked about Full Disclosure, "Two Fathers/One Son." Beside these and Duchovny's well-written and directed tale and a small handful of others, the season was basically a disappointment to most die-hards. However, the show has gotten nominated every year for like the past what, 5 years? I still think that they should have gotten nominated for something, anything (maybe Show With The Most Sue-Me Happy People-Wait! That would have to be the network, FOX). But, then again, maybe all this negative-nominations out the ying-yang is telling Carter he need make this season one of the best. All we can do is wait and see! More mythology!!!

    Loads of Crap

    by bigbody

Ok I know this people might act like there to snotty for it but angel and Buffy are two good shows and they need the spotlight that they earned. I bet if they were on NBC or anyone of the Big 3(I still don't count fox even if I watch it more then any other channel. Simpsons Rule) Plus The best actor in a comdey is just worthless. Mike J is funny but I think we could have done better. One shinning point is the Sopranos That is the best show in the world. I'm begging for a longer season hey while I'm thinking about it Where the hell is Oz. That show is deep. Oh I hate the Golden Globes anyway.

    Reply to Talkback

  • Chickenshit Golden Globes.. here I thought they'd have more guts than the Emmys, but I was wrong.. The only genuine cult show that is a huge hit considering the network it's on, while at the same time widely reguarded by critics as the best thing on TV.. and they get nothing. Let's throw some more statues at the standard Cop shows, lawyer shows (and let's not reward David E. Kelly for ripping himself off for another year) and ignore any hint of originality.. Even the film awards look bland.. think I'll skip it this year.

    is it me....

    by twisted mentat

...or is it the same 5 or 6 shows in each catagory? Alright, I love sex and the city, so i'm glad that its there. But i do with Futurama had made it in there too.
    I haven't loved a show like that since...well, i can't remmeber when.
They should have differant catagories for shows (EG SCi-fi: Crusade, Xfiles, buffy, Lexx...hey..i just tossing names out...)
though i think i know why Xfiles was SNubbed...i really have hated this season...its be boring...normaly i'll switch over toe TLC or A&E at 10pm (crazy canadian times) after Futurama unless the first couple seconds of the Xfiles intrests me. Like last weeks....who would of thought to have a haunted house Ep for Xmas...

    Leelee is the best :)

    by braun

When Leelee didn't win the Emmy for her portrayal of Joan, She was robbed... Leelee's performance of Joan was one of the most inspired and brilliant portayals I have seen in years... I was left utterly awestruck. If Leelee doesn't win the Globe it will be a crime.

Leelee, you have amazing talent and you play your characters with such feeling and passion... Globe, Emmy or not, You are among the best ever...

Keep up the incredible work Leelee... Your heart felt portrayals of decent and inspiring characters does not go unnoticed...

Good luck on all your upcoming projects... Oh, and Merry Christmas to you too :)

    Where's "That 70s Show!"?!!!!!

    by mia fudge

I can understand The Simpsons and Futurama being looked-over ('animation doesn't count', or whatever), but "That 70s Show!" should definitely be nominated! It's my favorite (live-action) show. And the couple of episodes of "Freaks and Geeks" that I saw (Didn't they air like, 3 of them?!) were actually pretty good. Maybe it's better that the cool shows don't get any noms and you can keep them to yourself...('til they get cancelled?)

I agree with all those who say BTVS is the beat hour on TV, the most interesting stories, best characters, consistently best show around. Does anyone have any Idea's why this superb show is snubbed so often?, On the subject of comedy shows, I was suprised that 'Frasier' was not nominated, or at least David Hyde Pierce as best comedy actor.

    X-Files, Buffy (not!), and Futurama.

    by fatal discharge

MIKAGE - although I still love it, I generally agree about the X-FILES this season and last there have been too many worthless episodes. Stop with the psycho-loner/monster body count episodes - ENOUGH ALREADY they're boring! And I think I'm not the only one who cringes when Scully STILL does her 'Mulder there must be a rational expalanation' bullshit. Chris Carter let me introduce you to something called a character arc - after years of being presented with unexplainable phenomena, people SHOULD CHANGE. As for BUFFY, am I the only one who can't sit through a whole episode? I've tried about 3 or 4 times and I just don't get it. It's not funny, it's not scary and the karate stuff is soooo lame. One final thing about FUTURAMA as Fox network is pulling it next month for a family sitcom...anyone who hasn't seen it yet is missing the funniest half-hour on tv (even better than the Simpsons). If you're a science-fiction fan, you'll get an even bigger kick out of it because of all the SF parodies.

    Thoughts on GGs...

    by agentcooper

I'm not sure, but I think the shows nominated had to air during the '98-'99 season, which would explain the absence of FREAKS and GEEKS and ANGEL. F&G is truly one of the most original shows on television, and I'm glad NBC is going to give it another chance. It is coming back in January, and will play Mondays at 8:00, which is a great time. Nothing else is on. Check it out if you haven't yet...I am shocked that FRIENDS was not on the list of nominees for outstanding comedy series. Say what you will about it being mainstream, Friends is the funniest live action show on TV, (Followed closely by THAT 70s SHOW). Friends benefits from a great cast, sharp writing, and a smart production team. Its legacy will far outlast flash-in-the-pan pieces of drivel like ALLY McBEAL, whose slapstick combined with touchy-feely drama should have been over a long time ago. ER is a great show that deserves recognition for its consistancy. Every week the producers give us an exciting, character driven ensemble drama. I watch the show with a couple of medical professionals every week, and they always praise it for its realism...I'm glad THE SOPRANOS is getting the recognition it deserves. It takes risks that no network show could and doesn't underestimate the intelligence of its audience. If they drop all the pointless dream sequences, it will be a perfect show. Even that is a minor complaint, though...One show I'm happy is off the list this year is NYPD BLUE. Once one of my very favorite shows, BLUE has been in a steady downward spiral for about three years now, repeating the same situations and character crisis over and over. This is the formula for every show: Andy and Bobby/Danny visit the crime scene. The murderer is there at the crime scene. They figure out over the course of the next fifteen minutes this person is the killer. They bring them in for a tearful confession during the next fifteen, then for the last fifteen, we have character development. Man, when that show started, it was so cool. Kelly and Sipowitz against the mob and a thousand other New York scumbags. Now, it's just killer of the week. Very sad...Okay, sorry for all the rambling thoughts. Happy Holidays to all...

    Gillian Anderson

    by maul99

I have an enormous beef with the Best Actress In A Television Drama nominations. First of all, I'm a huge fan of The Sopranos. However, Lorraine Bracco is in approximately 15-20 minutes of each episode.....tops. It is my opinion that she doesn't really qualify for this category. Edie Falco deserves to be included for her work, if not only for The Sopranos but also for Oz. Julianna Margulies is a totally overrated actress on a poorly-written show.....I mean, why not put Kellie Martin in here if you must nominate someone from ER. Now, I haven't seen Judging Amy or Once and Again, but I am familiar with the work of Amy Brenneman and Sela Ward both in film and television. They are great actressed and I really don't know if they should be included here. Now, all of this leads up to what amounts to the biggest snub of these Golden Globe Awards......the exclusion of Gillian Anderson. It is practically a sin. She is, hands down, the most talented dramatic actress on televsion. She shines when provided with great material on the X-Files, and carries lesser episodes with her screen presence and charisma. Some believe that the quality of the show has been in decline, but Ms. Anderson's work has never been nothing but outstanding.

What Y2K The Movie Wasn't Nominated?!!!

    by obi wan's clone

Come on that movie brought a tear to me eyes.

I agree there could have been far better shows nominated. West Wing is good. Hopefully Ray Romano will win for Everybody Loves Raymond. Simpsons desearves some more recognition but while Futurama is funny I don't think its that great. I'd hate to see to many shows "from the makers of the Simpsons", it could cause a Trek type situation where the writing is stretched to thin. What would be cool is a Simpsons/Futurama once Futurama gets more established crossover like they did with the Flintstones and Jetsons.

Comedy (especially sitcoms) seem to be currently drying up with material, the in thing right now appears to be ER/Law & Order/NYPD Blue type dramas or million dollar game shows or When Worlds Scariest Flying Monkeys Attack Fast Food Employees Pissing In Your Soft Drink shows. Except for the first category and the few good sitcomes that are out my TV will remain off (unless I choose to watch "the one" duke it out with the sentinels ond Divadee for the hundredth time). Thank You Very Much.

    Why not Buffy?

    by dustin

I think the problem is that damn comedy/drama categorization. Buffy's a comedy/horror/drama that touts itself as a drama. Now, assuming they placed Buffy in contention in the drama category, I'd have to say that the drama nominees, Practice, Sopranos, etc. are better 'dramas' than Buffy, mainly because, IMHO, in most episodes, the "dramatic" aspects of Buffy are the weakest part usually- let's be honest with ourselves. =) I still think that Buffy's the most entertaining show on the air, but not the "best drama on tv", which is the award it's vying for. Nor do I think Miss Gellar is the best "actress in a dramatic role" though she does deserve some sort of award for kicking ass... I've always thought of BtVS as more of a comedy personally, but it just doesn't fit into that category for these awards.

WHERE THE FUCK IS NYPD BLUE!?!?!?!?!

    by photon_wordsmith

Okay, so if I get a little heated on this subject, please, please, bear with me ...

What do these guys want? Blood? I mean, NYPD Blue has had one of the biggest seasons in its entire run; Jimmy Smits leaving - his final episodes being among the finest television episodes ever written for a cop show; Rick Schroeder replacing him and proving himself capable of rivaling not only Jimmy's Bobby Simone but also David Caruso's John Kelly as a hard-ass police detective. But, guys, for the love of humanity; DENIS FRANZ!!! Dear God, his portrayal of Andy Sipowicz in this season is better then it ever fucking has been!! In the space of a dozen episodes; He lost his partner, broke in a new partner, and his wife was murdered! There are very few actors who could have played the part as well as Franz! I'm hoping and praying that this oversight will be rectified in the Emmy awards; but for the golden globes; when I read the nominations lists; I almost had heart failure when I read that neither Denis nor Jimmy got the nod.

    What the FUCKING fuck?!

    by cuppa joe

FIRST OF ALL: I think that the nods towards RKO 281 are well deserved. It and Citizen Kane kick ass.
SECOND OF ALL: Others have already touched on this, but I have to repeat for added impact...what the hell is up with the snubbing of the X-Files, and That '70's Show? That '70's Show is one of the funniest, and certainly most original comedies to come along in a while. It's one of my favorite comedies of the decade. And The X-Files is an excellent show that, although the current season isn't fantabulous, really deserves some credit. Last season had the perfect balance of more serious stand-alone episodes such as Terms of Endearment, and more silly, but IMMENSLEY entertaining (to my complete surprise) episodes such as the Dreamland 2-parter. It took in the dramatic bit, of course, with the Two Fathers, One Son 2-parter, and the series finale ties threads all the way back the the great second season's season finale. It and it's actors SO deserve credit for their ability to go from absurd to dramatically serious in the difference of one episode, and not come off as a piece of garbage.

But that's just me. Oh, and Heather Locklear? She's cute but best actress in ANYTHING? That's the stupidest fucking thing I've ever heard.

You can take that F word and go f- opps....

    by girl ellison

    First a few statements-
    1. Gillian Anderson did get snubbed
    2. The Sopranos deserve every award out there
    3. I think that every single woman nominated deserved it.

With that said and the target on my head firmly placed send it on folks.
Now lets also look at the fact that Gil has won several awards and I will go so far that the X-Files lack of quailty and the antibuzz on the show- the show's premise has worn thin- there is very little if any new blood to the mythology- and fair or not- it reflects on the stars no matter what kind of preformances they turn in. Is it fair- hell no- that's life.
And to the Sopranos- you gotta problem with them winning? You come with me We'll put our heads together and come out with something kay punk?
