Arnold kicking around a comic book character and offered remakes of Predator and The Running Man?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with some Arnie news for ya'.

The obsessive folks at TheArnoldFans attended a talk with ex-Governor Schwarzenegger at The Arnold Classic and asked him to elaborate on the recent comment about him having 3 scripts on his table.

His response was like a good Lost episode... filled with mystery, more questions than answers and a few surprising reveals.

"Well, first of all it's more 15 films, obvious ones from The Terminator to remakes of Predator and The Running Man and all of those things. Then also a lot of original stuff too. But I am also packaging a Comic Book character right now. I'm going to announce that sometime by the end of March or the beginning of April."

Let's start with the remakes... There was already rumblings that he was being courted to return to The Terminator universe... I don't know, I think personally at this time it doesn't make much sense unless he's playing a scientist or something and they pull a Data/Bishop angle and have the creator base his creation on himself. It's a continuity thing. It doesn't make much sense if the Robot radically ages... unless he's infiltrating a retirement community that is. Although that didn't work so well last time they tried to explain why the T-800s looked like Arnie...

As for remakes of Predator and The Running Man... surely he meant sequels, right? Unless they want him to play the Host of a Running Man remake I don't see the big studio appeal for having him return to those films. And remake of Predator with him as the action lead? No way. A sequel starring Dutch? I'm in a dozen times over, especially if they're able to bust McTiernan out and have him return to direct.

The most intriguing thing he said was about packaging a comic book character for himself. What could that be? I'm drawing a blank.

Lots of exciting stuff in the future for us children of the '80s who grew up with this man swaggering up and down the screen.

    Comic Book Character

    by TheFetus

If he's not playing Cable, he should be. -thefetusnowdotcom

  • I always figured that the T101/T800 Arnold model looked the way it did due to it having to cover the massive endolskeleton..and it was kinda like Skynets idea of what a perfect humanoid would look like - the atlas thing..and that it was developed as a way to infiltrate humans after the crappy T600s with rubber it had arnolds face as thats just what a T800 model 101s skull happens to look like when you put skin on its head where as in that stupid T3 scene suddenly it was all based on Sgt Candy as early as 2003?! thankfully it was only a deleted scene (its almost comical in tone - almost like a gag reel - in fact wasnt it filmed for the T3 game or something??) and there was no indication in T4 the T800 was based on any captured soilder or anything - thus retaining the mystery of it do not ruin it by having Arnie as a scientist or soldier in T5....

  • March 6, 2011, 3:03 p.m. CST

cartmanez - that logic pretty much fits with my thoughts

    by Kamaji

I hated that every other person felt that any Terminators after Arnold should be just as muscular as he was. But these people weren't thinking of the evolution of the computer: the freakin' things get smaller! So the idea that the robotics would get smaller and smaller would soon be able to allow Skynet to make it easier to create Terminator infiltration units to blend in with the humans. Though I did joke that by the time T4 or T5, they'd have the technology placed into a little kid who could easily blow up a 4-block radius.

Aside from doing a King Conan movie with John Milius (which won't happen now anyway) I'd rather not see Arnold revisit any of his previous characters. I'm still hopeful he will give us some more cool films though! I think returning to old hits is a surefire way to deliver mediocrity at best.

Don't think Die Hard was based on Commando sequel

    by steverogers5

Isn't the original Die Hard based on a 1979 novel by Roderick Thorp titled Nothing Lasts Forever? (I'm sure there's a line in the credits acknowledging the works of Roderick Thorp) Still, I suppose it's not inconceivable that the makers took some action sequences from a commando sequel script, and slotted them in there..

  • March 6, 2011, 6:21 p.m. CST

    Doc Savage

    by cushing1967

I'm not a fan of Arnie and if he goes anywhere near Doc Savage I will be so pissed off. I've loved the Man of Bronze for most of my life and when it was announced years ago he was going to play Doc Savage I was gutted and when that particular movie died away into the ether I couldn't have been more delighted. There is NO way in hell that Arnie, even when age appropriate, could have played Doc Savage. I know that Arnie is an intelligent man but he never comes across as anything other than - well, primal is a kind word, thick as pig shit are less kind words. The only comic book character I think he'd be good at (given the right direction) would be Doctor Doom (and then only if he wasn't allowed to ad lib his own lines).

    Die Hard

    by cushing1967

Is kind of like the hand me down franchise - wasn't Die Hard With A Vengeance originally a spec script called Simon Says that was bought as a potential Lethal Weapon sequel?

  • March 6, 2011, 6:24 p.m. CST

Never Mind..It seems to be a mixture..

    by steverogers5

Just looked up Wikipedia, and the truth is s a combination of both. i.e. The sequel script to Commando was a retooled version of an unfilmed script of Roderick Thorp's Nothing Lasts Forever.. So we're both right.. ;)

  • March 6, 2011, 6:29 p.m. CST

    by cushing1967

Nothing Lasts Forever was actually a novel that was a sequel to The Detective which was made in the 60's with Sinatra. So, it's entirely possible that they bought the rights to make it into a John Matrix movie initially. In fact in the novel, if I remember the heroes daughter is held hostage so that would sort of fit. Die Hard 2 was based on a novel called 58 minutes and the hero was a different character to the one in Nothing Lasts Forever.

  • March 6, 2011, 8:25 p.m. CST

    by IronEagle74

Unfortunately the answer is YES, it seems inevitable that every great movie, especially from the 1980s, is going to be remade. I suppose in a way it's a compliment to how great that decade was for movies, especially action franchises starring real action heroes, but these days all we get are PG-13 fluff full of CGI, no story, and pathetic acting.

You know you want a re-match, and not with some teenage Predator. Dutch on an alien planet, hunted by Broken Tooth, both of them training new recruits. Gives Hollywood a chance to create some new kind of worm-hole prototype, and send Dutch through, using Predator technology stolen in Predator II. And we all the Predators to have personalities just as real as the Marines. Come on, Hollywood, District Nine did all this for less the 30 million, you can do it too.

Didn't Arnie say something way back about becoming the president or something? Its all made up now anyways, the Big P now just a frontman for the bigger band (isn't it the Stones?). Like shiny, vengeful T's emerging from the ashes of the Nuke Fire - 3 seconds after he's sworn in at Prez Arnie rips off his human flesh head, with an uncharacteristic though still effectively tinny laugh, starts whacking all the opposition already computer-targeted in the crowd (political opposers, or just plain ol' meatbags, assuming any left smouldering from N fire). Its gonna happen. It'd at least be more entertaining than shootin' a moose (or whatever you wanna call what's crappenin right now).

I think we're done with Terminator to be honest - and that deleted scene is fucking ridiculous. But a predator sequel with Dutch? Yes, that could work. As for Running Man, if you want to do that, go back to Stephen King's original story. Now that could be a great film - or even a great TV show. The film was shit.

Just let it go mr Arnold and are already part of the cinematic legends dont let your greed or vanity to destroy your remaining legacy. It is time to step to the side and let the young generation of action stars and action directors to rise and bring something completely new and refreshing to the genre. We dont want remakes of your classics, either with you or without you.We will always love forever all those movies and we will never forget you. Please dont fuck up both your status and us with your desperate attempt to revive your now obsolete careers and return back to your former glory and fame. The times change, and your careers were influential parts of a specific era,it would be for the best to leave them there but if you really believe that you have still things to offer to the action and to us the fans, please dont use the easy way with the remakes/sequels. Please respect us and your legacy.

    Killik...I disagree (somewhat)

    by ninpobugei

I hate when people try to say "so-and-so's career is over" or "they're too old", etc. Any good actor can be fresh and relevant so long as they don't try to be something they're not.</p> <p> To me, Arnold, Sly, Willis, Dolph, Van Damme, Segal, etc. can all continue to provide killer entertainment so long as they acknowledge that with age comes wisdom, but also a lessening of physical ability. The LETHAL WEAPON movies acknowledged this and Sly was very conscious of it when making ROCKY BALBOA, which was, IMO, the best of the series...just a perfect bookend.</p> <p> I think Arnold could come back and do anything he wants (provided it just doesn't completely shit on anything that's come before). A sequel to PREDATOR would be awesome, as would a sequel to TRUE LIES (I could see him, Tom Arnold and Jamie Lee all making a big deal out of being called back into service from desk jobs or retirement...huge pool of jokes and stunts to draw from in building comedy). I also think Arnold should be able to take his pick of cameo appearances, particularly in comedies (someone suggested THE HANGOVER sequels; brilliant!). While we're at it, why not a sequel to TWINS? (which was Arnold's highest grossing movie at the time it came out).</p> <p> I wish both Arnold, Sly and all the other 80's action stars a long career!

Arnold as Kerk Pyrrus in the Deathworld novel.

    by KilliK

he was born to play that role. But i agree with the above posts,Arnold as a bad-ass human general would have been perfect.but i dont want him as a Navi, the movie would have turned into comedy.

    Give us a PREDATOR/TERMINATOR crossover

    by flax

Twenty or thirty years after the events of Predator, Major Dutch is captured by the forces of Skynet. They see that he is a remarkable human specimen, the only one capable of standing against the predators. They decide to use him as the basis for their T-800 model. Then Dutch has to team up with John Connor to battle predators and terminators in some kind of time-travel plot. Come on, you know you'd pay to see it.

Terminator is as dead as dead is dead

    by Spandau Belly

Man, there is probably nothing you could do to get me to watch another Terminator movie. I don't care who's in it or who's directing. That series has lost all meaning and I am in no way interested in a remake.

    Running Man

    by FitnaTheForbiddenMovie

Just read Stephen King´s book again last week, what a tremendous read. It should be done justice by someone like Spielberg, starring Jackie Earle Healy as Ben Richards and Daniel Day Lewis as Evan McCone. It´s a very dramatic story, not the overblown action fest they turned it into.

    Arnie's fucking with us right?

    by Stalkeye

Remakes of Predator and The Running Man? (which was a disapointment with the exception of Richard Dawson's Killian) Is he fucking kidding me? As for comic character, let's just say that he's too old for Conan.(That, and some Hawiian guy is cast as the new Cimmerian.)I dunno, a Commando sequel in which his Grankid gets kidnapped this time? he's out of options unless he's willing to take a paycut for the impending Expendables sequel.

    Arnold vs Summer Glau

I would love to see Summer and Arnold battle each other in another Terminator movie. Maybe even fight side by side. Its just that Summer should not be omitted.

Great news, I love me some Arnie

    by DirkD13"

I have a genuine love for most of his action flicks (comedies, no), even Last Action Hero, End Of Days and Collateral Damage. Although I can't intellectually defend that love for his "shit" movies beyond him starring in most of the first uncut adult action films I ever watched. His few classics however, need no defense.

    by DangerDave

  • Just kidding. I'd love a really dark and Cameron-esque Terminator future war film with the iconic chrome plated HK's and plasma rifles. Also having Arnold in it in some capacity would be great. I like what others have suggested for his involvement. Arnold as a soldier or mentor to John Connor, explaining why he is older. Of course, he gets captured by Skynet, and used as the basis for a line of T800's. Maybe Skynet sees this as a sort of psychological warfare tactic? John's best ally and one of his military mentors is now the face of his enemy. Unfortunately, I think that ship has finally sailed. If Salvation hadn't been so intent on setting up a second Terminator trilogy, we might have gotten the movie that shows the end of Skynet and sending Reese back, creating that perfect loop that leads back to the original film. Unless they are gonna have that be the end of another Terminator film, I don't really want to see this series dragged on and on again. I don't know, maybe they could give the Ex-Governator some original material to do for his big return to the movies? Although, I have no problem with Arnie appearing in The Expendables part II, that is if it is made. Stallone nearly killed himself making the first one. I wonder if he will want to go through all that again?

The worst thing they did to the Terminator series

    by Extr3m1st

Is dumb down the Terminator. Yes you can make it help John Connor. But it must always be ruthless and always a threat to any other human. Speak to the hand and the high 5 crap..what a mistake. I would love to see Arnie in Camerons next big feature. I hear he is working his ass off in the gym, at his size, with his experience and body building knowledge and with that frame even at 63 he can get back to looking like a monster in short order.

    Please, Not Doc Savage

    by Barron34

I like Arnold, but he has never been right for this role. Doc Savage is an American genius, superman, and proto-superhero. He shouldn't be played by anyone who can't speak uninflected Standard American English. Also, Arnie is too old to play the character anyway. He might have looked like Doc Savage when he was in his prime, but Arnold is just too old for the role, and can't sound like a native speaker of American English.***** Arnold should be cast in age-specific roles that are suited for him. KING CONAN has always been an ideal script for him. When the attempted re-boot of Conan fails, they should rush KING CONAN into production for Arnold. That and that film about a "good" Nazi (WINGS OF EAGLES?) have always seemed like prime scripts that Arnie should focus on. I think DOC SAVAGE would be a fail with Arnold on board.
