DYLAN DOG: DEAD OF NIGHT Looks Like A Blast! New Trailer!

Nordling here.

This one snuck up on me.  I had no idea this was coming; Brandon Routh and Sam Huntington as a detective team investigating undead crimes?  With Sam playing a zombie sidekick?  Looks hilarious, very Buffy-esque, and directed by Kevin "TMNT" Munroe.  I'm glad to see Routh's moved on from SUPERMAN RETURNS.  He was terrific in SCOTT PILGRIM and he looks like he brought some of that charm with him in this performance.

DYLAN DOG: DEAD OF NIGHT opens April 29, 2011.

Nordling, out.

    Routh's Appearance

    by Fievel

They should have done something different with Routh's hair or appearance to make him not look like he just walked off the Superman lot. Even a 5:00 shadow would have worked. Regardless, this looks interesting.

    Dylan Dog

    by donkey_lasher

We've already had a film based on the comic haven't we? I seem to remember seeing a review in The Dark Side magazine, and wanting to see it, but it was fairly obscure in the UK.

    by Miss 45

Dylan is a Brit who lives in London, this is on par with Keanu Reeves as Constantine. Also, his assistant should be Groucho. This is a slander to everything that makes the character great.

  • The story is over at TMZ. At least the talkback would be interesting.

  • March 4, 2011, 1:37 p.m. CST

Loved that DD film, Routh is going to have to go some to top Everett.

  • But Cavill will still do a good job.

  • March 4, 2011, 1:57 p.m. CST

I guess this will do until we get a Dresden Files movie

    by ltgalloway

And yes, the TV show was a let down. I liked Routh in Chuck (and everything else he's done really). Hope this finds an audience.

  • March 4, 2011, 1:59 p.m. CST

When he gets punched by that monster at 1:20 and goes flying....

by Bobo_Vision totally defies logic and physics. What would really happen is, his head would snap back, his jaw would probably be broken in several places, and he would fall to the floor, and possibly slide...possibly. <p> Ever since Robocop got punched by ED-209, and went flying, other films are following suit....but Robocop's head was strapped onto his body by titanium.

  • March 4, 2011, 2:01 p.m. CST

    Dylan Dog in Name Only.

    by hank henshaw

This has nothing to do with the Italian comic. New Orleans? DYD an american? No Groucho? No inspector Bloch? Dylan Dog shouldn't have the vibe of Buffy the vampire slayer, instead it should be something in between of Dario Argento horror movies, Cronenberg, and early 80's slasher movies. What a waste.

Y'all need to screw Jon Peters for SR. Just tell me when you're planning to do it so I can be somewhere else...

  • March 4, 2011, 2:08 p.m. CST

Dellamore Dellamorte wasn't exactly a Dylan Dog movie.

    by hank henshaw

Cementery Man was based on another character by the same creator, italian novelist Tiziano Sclavi. Gnaghi (the hunchback crazy sidekick) occasionally appears in Dylan Dog, and Dellamorte appeared in "crossovers" with DYD once or twice. The confusion comes from the fact that Rupert Everett played Dellamorte and Dylan Dog's face was originally inspired in Everett's facial features.

  • March 4, 2011, 2:12 p.m. CST

    Overall... I approve.

    by plasticfrank

Not sure if Routh is hitting the right tone in every scene. Hard to tell out of context. Just feels a little awkward. But I think this definitely has more going for it than against it. The project seems awesome. I'm happy for Routh. He seems to know how to pick interesting projects. His take on Superman was good despite the shortcomings of the movie. Scott Pilgrim was awesome and Routh was awesome in it. And Dylan Dog definately has my interest.

  • March 4, 2011, 2:15 p.m. CST

Cast Routh in an X-Men movie

    by Jake Pantlin

Now that he isn't playing Superman anymore, he is free to play another superhero. I think Singer owes him one... lol... so he should cast him in a future X-Men movie. Hey, if Ryan Renolds can do DC and Marvel movies, so can Routh! I could see him as Quicksilver, Mimic, Namor, Madison Jeffries (Box), or maybe as a mutant villain.

i 100% agree with you. routh really got the shaft. too bad the roles weren't reversed and cavill was in superman returns. maybe routh could've been cast in snyder's flick.

  • March 4, 2011, 3:51 p.m. CST

I mean I'll watch it, but is this going straight to video?

    by stu_pickles

trailer gives it that kind of vibe. Back when the coming attractions before VHS or early DVD were separated by "Coming to a Theater Near You" and "Coming to a Store Near You" this trailer definitely fits the bill for the latter. Thank god for Netflix

    Okay, I'm sold on Routh

    by David Cloverfield

I was on the fence after Returns, but the guy is instantly likable, while having a comic book pretty boy face. He was great in Pilgrim and he seems to own this.

Ho hum. Looks too cartoony and the Hyde vibe from that hulk monster isn't selling the movie to me. Now what we really need is a Felix Castor movie. That series is hard-boiled wise-ass detective + undead done right.

  • March 4, 2011, 10:06 p.m. CST

Wow Routh has so much presence. Would love to see him in more Supes films.

    by moonlightdrive

Bad move not sticking with him for the new Superman movie.

  • March 4, 2011, 10:50 p.m. CST

I agree Routh maintains that Superman

    by Teddy Artery

presence. It's too bad he'll be forever linked to the Singer film, because he's charismatic. OTOH, this looks like a video. Probably shot on RED camera, or something lesser, because it has that lack of grain, "presence" and smeariness of video. Also, the lighting looked a little amateurish. Might be OK as a rental.

    by Ecto-1

Sorry, couldn't resist that. Anyway, yea, sadly this film doesn't have much in common with the comics. It looks like a very 'play it safe' kind of film. If I saw it cheap in the bargain-bin for a couple of pounds I'd maybe pick it up, but otherwise it really isn't doing it for me.

  • March 5, 2011, 5:46 a.m. CST

At first I thought this looked like turd

    by HelmetBoy

But if the trailer is anything to go by, it looks like they've got the tone of this right. Kind of like Constantine with a pulse. Looks a bit like it's made-for-TV but Routh is awesome, so I'm sure it will be fun.

    Constantine vs Dylan Dog

    by Blueberry

Though John Constatine appeared in Swamp Thing more than a year before Dylan Dog comic-book was published, the italian series had been "in the making" for a couple of years. Being a 96page monthly, the issues are usually written a good 2 years in advance. As well for the movies, the Dylan Dog/Dead of Night movie was put in development back in mid-90s with Breck Eisner slated to direct. Well before the Constantine movie. And anyway the tone and approach are totally different. Dylan Dog never takes himself as seriously as the movie Constantine does.

  • Routh must give a savage blow job.
