The guy that is making this is making SUPERMAN? New SUCKERPUNCH Music Trailer is awesome!

Hey folks, Harry here...

You know...  As I lay here in my hospital bed, I find myself marveling at motion.   Human motion.   The ability to just effortlessly move.  Through my time here I've thought a lot about what makes one move.  We don't tend to consciously and laboriously THINK every movement through.  We tend to think, I want to get a glass of water, but not the various motions to go from sitting to getting that water and returning.   Right now, I'm having to re-learn motion, how to walk.  As I spend time on those parallel bars walking back and forth I'm trying to talk about other things as I do it.   Trying to make the movement not require excruciating concentration...

What does this have to do with SUCKERPUNCH...  well, I watch the movement of these characters, the camera and try to imagine being able to do any of that - and I'm in awe.   Even more so - I think a lot about the future here.   The films I get to walk into instead of rolling into - and watching the below trailer - I try to imagine Zack Snyder's SUPERMAN...   I know Chris Nolan is involved, but I'm hoping that truly - Zack is 100% in charge.   I want to see a dynamic SUPERMAN film that blows me away totally.   I want to see a SUPERMAN that's dealing with science-fiction tech that blows our minds away by how cool it looks.   A great action packed SUPERMAN film that hopefully is as intelligent as it is mind-blowing.   That's the promise that a Nolan / Snyder team up inspires for me.

As for SUCKERPUNCH...  it'll probably be one of the first films I see once I'm out of here.   That and RANGO - and I can not wait.   I don't feel like I've missed a terrible lot in the past few weeks.   But man...  look at this. It's going to be amazing to watch...

Nordling here.

Big fan of the Silversun Pickups, whose "Panic Switch" sets the tone for this truly kickass trailer.  At this point, you're either going to enjoy the ride that Zack Snyder has prepared for us or you won't.   As for myself, I think SUCKER PUNCH is going to make me grin from ear to ear throughout the whole thing.  I think Snyder knows what works in cinema and his films create a visceral reality that just satisfies the inner geek in all of us.  At least that's how it is for me.

    by Larry Knowles

So I rewatched Superman Returns last night becuase I just don't get all the criticism. I came to this conclusion: While I love Superman 1,2 and Returns, you guys are probably right in arguing that it is time for a BIG ACTIONY Superman Movie - the likes of which we have only dreamt about. You're probably right that it is time to move on from the origin story and show us Superman kicking ass. I think Zack Snyder will give us this.

    The problem is...

    by Larry Knowles

The problem with making a good Superman movie is how do you come up with a credible threat for a being that is all-powerful? How do you even the odds in a Superman movie? How do you make the audience believe that Superman is in danger, in peril, that he might not be able to stop the baddy?

Does it matter if it tested poorly?

Ya know what I enjoy more than a really good movie...? ...a really good movie that no one else likes! So what if this movie tests poorly? As long is its released, I'll be happy. Here's my list of movies that I love and everyone else does'nt: 1) Waterworld 2) Reign of Fire 3) Highlander 4) Excalibur 5) Caveman 6) Trick R' Treat

    by ThePorkChopExpress

Just another soulless CGI fest. The effects throughout that trailer seem really inconsistent. Some of it is full CGI with seemingly full CGI people and other bits it's half/half and bits with that Orc looking thing are practical. Hope it's not as distracting in the final film... As exciting as it seems, I get the feeling we're all going to be bored of watching some people jump or land from a jump in slow motion while making a big over-arching swing with what ever weapon said person happens to be carrying.

"How do you make Superman vulnerable"?

    by Orbots Commander

Easy. You power the character down, a lot, as in: no more shoulder pressing small continents or spinning the Earth backwards. Make him bleed and rub his face into the dirt a bunch more and put the people around him in danger, and, bam, you've created suspense.

    You can't "power-down" Superman

    by Larry Knowles

His superpowers are too well-established. If, for instance, you took away his ability to fly and instead have him "leap tall buildings in a single bound", the audience would feel cheated. No..."powering-down" Superman is not the way to create suspense in a Superman movie. You need to make him vulnerable by tempting him. Or outsmarting him. Or having some threat that he won't be able to solve with brute force alone. Also, Harry, please give me a call. The nurses still won't let me up to see you. -Larry

The studio didn't love Trick R Treat...

    by Larry Knowles

Clearly. Otherwise they would have handled that little gem with the reverence it deserves. Also, I've never understood why a studio can't rerelease some of these treasures that they botched up the first release. Surely, they would make a killing by releasing Trick R Treat mid-October?!

    by Johnno

But like women are the opposite of men, so I expect they'll be whispering and talking in hushed voices instead of yelling, and moving around all stealthily instead of out there in the open catching arrows and spears and they'll be wearing more clothing unlike the proud Spartans flexing their chest muscles or whatever... Well at least it's not a sequel or a remake even if it is derivative of many many many many things... but that's not a bad thing...

    Superman vulnerable

    by LLcruize2

If you want to argue that you have to give Superman some massive powerful being to create any sense of vulnerability, I point to Superman Returns. The scene when Supes lands on the Kryptonite rock and looses his powers and then Lex and the boys start kicking the crap out of him; it was one of the most emotional scenes I have seen in a super hero flick to date. The people around me in the theater were flinching and totally moved emotionally by what they were seeing. Returns gets the shit stick a lot of times from a select crowd of folks. I can understand the desire to see an epic battle between two titans. Had the select crowd of folks kept their panties on and not shit prematurely, we would have gotten that with Singer and Routh's second movie. All that said, Sucker Punch looks like crazy fun and I can't wait for it. Very interested to see what Snyder does with Supes. I do agree I hope the speed up/slow down is kept to a minimum. That really got old with 300.

When I said that Wikipedia illustration was funny...I guess I meant that the whole concept of a Donkey Punch is so over-the-top violent that my first reaction was one of horrific disbelieving laughter. Like when watching extreme violence in the movies and you can't help but laugh out loud as a form of release.

yer mama: if you've really seen it, care to share with us reasons why?

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

Can you actually write for us a mini review here? I'm seriously interested. I have seen all of Snyder's movies in the theater (I usually don't see many movies in the theater) and never came away disappointed, much to my surprise. However -- I haven't rewatched any of his three movies, except for parts of DotD (which I think is his best). I have doubts about SuckerPunch. Yet I predict I will be sitting in the theater for it, but I do have this feeling that this will be the first time I will come away disappointed by a Zach Snyder movie.

The lead blonde isn't that attractive

    by Jim Jam Bongs

Who the hell is she anyway? She comes off as a generic bimbo cast in a horny junior high school boy's idea of a super-great movie. And the set-up about her character having been nearly raped by who appears to be a stepfather just doesn't sit well with me. For some reason it irks me. I think it's because this entire movie comes off as a blatant young male adolescent wank-fest and the near-rape, molestation aspect feels exploitive, especially since the story is written by a male. I mean, I'm a guy who enjoys watching a movie where cute girls kick ass on screen. But SuckerPunch feels dirty to me -- without being sexy. As someone else pointed above, if you're going to do a movie like this, go full-out R-rated, paying an homage to Barbarella and Heavy Metal, big boobs and all. Of all the females in this movie, based on the trailer, I think I would have preferred that Jena Malone was the lead and that the near-rape setup was dropped for something else traumatic that caused the heroine to get locked up in a mental asylum.

Same shit, from someone you would call a 'Hack'

    by Darth_Kaos

What makes me laugh about some of you douche bag geeks is that Zack Snyder in any other term would be called a HACK! His projects and style resemble that of the Ratner, McG and Bay. Yet, no one calls him a hack. Now since 'god' himself 'Chris Nolan' has given him his blessing, he seems untouchable now. I watch that video, and I see the same over the top, style over substance Snyder began with that fucking overrated, homoerotic '300'. Seriously, in that video, I actually saw some of the same slow mo/fast shots, blocking and landings from his last two live action movies. Just lazy....I swear, just lazy. Personally, I think he's wrong fro Superman and I think it's going to be an awful...lonnnng over-rot of a movie. And to think he had so much promise with the only remake I've ever liked better than the original "Dawn Of The Dead'. It's a shame. .....and don't get me started on Harry's ass-kissing.

    by auddym

I hate the fucking lighting and color in Snyder films. I don't know if it's the CGI backgrounds or his personal taste but it lacks warmth and never feels natural. It's like watching a photoshopped image in motion. This morning I was watching a movie with CGI backgrounds from five years ago and it looks outdated as shit. None of these movies will age well.

    by Phategod100

He's better then bay for one simple reason, HE CAN KEEP THE FUCKING CAMERA STEADY DURING A ACTION SCENE. Besides that he doesn't need ti hire actors who can ad-lib for 2 hours, Which is also the reason that makes him better then McG.

I personally would be happy to just watch Superman fly around stopping runaway trains, beating every variety of crap out of villains, and just completely dominating and being awesome. I don't need the dramatic tension of questioning whether Supes can defeat somebody. Of course he can. He's Superman. I just want to see him punch bad guys through buildings and into the sun. I hate it when he loses his powers. Why? It's boring. Save that for the mortal superheroes. Let Superman be Superman!

"Trick R' Treat" is my favorite seasonal horror film besides Carpenter's original Halloween, and I watch it on DVD like 3 times a month. And I attended the premiere of "Reign of Fire" and loved it. Never underestimate the guilty pleasures of your fellow geek culture. ' Anyway, I like the bulk of Snyder's films, for the most part. "Dawn of the Dead" is the best horror remake of the aughts--doesn't strike the social commentary of Romero's original Dawn, but it hits a ton of high notes. "300" was a great theater experience, haven't been drawn to it since. And I found "Watchmen" to be a slavishly faithful adaptation of the graphic novel, which is my all-time favorite work of the graphic novel medium. Maybe not a great MOVIE, but I will give immense "props" to Snyder for delivering such a faithful rendition of most of the source material. And, damn... Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Chung, Malone... hands down, the most delicious ensemble cast of any 2011 film.

A serious response to the 'attractive people in asylums issue'

    by nico_laos

larryknowles is mostly correct. It does seem that the crazier you are, the fuglier you get. I know of only one exception. A few years ago a buddy of mine attempted suicide by taking a ton of pain killers. He was taken to the ER and had his stomach pumped, and recovered just fine. Now, since he attempted suicide, the hospital is legally bound to hold you for 48 hrs or until you're written off as not a danger to yourself (this could be several weeks, by the way. You can literally disappear into a psyche ward if you're not careful). So after a day, I go to visit the guy, and I swear ... the people there were the most stereotypical nutjobs I could imagine. It was literally just like the fucking movies. Think of all the characters from every psyche ward movie you can think of, and I swear I saw at least ten of them in that one place. You remember that black guy from 12 MONKEYS? He was like a professor, yet he was still batshit crazy. I met him! Except he was white and in his mid-20s, but the personality was fucking exact. Then there was the saddest, craziest woman I've ever seen: Ms. Philistine. Yeah, that was her name. She was tiny, thin and about 80 yrs old. And I'm telling you, she was on fucking Mars. Completely incoherent. She just walked around in her nightgown mumbling to herself. At one point, she lifted the bottom of her gown to use it as a handkerchief, and I got a flash of elderly vag that just about melted my fucking eyeballs. Then, several minutes later, she sits in a chair and proceeds to piss in the seat. Finally, some orderlies found the woman and took her away. So then as I'm sitting in the visiting area, listening to my friend tell me about the shit he's seen while in there, then this gorgeous 20-something girl walks in. I'm thinking, "Surely this hot piece of ass is a visitor". But, no. She was a patient, and full-blown schizophrenic according to my friend. So as she sits there talking to her parents, her knee is bouncing up and down and she keeps flicking her hair off her shoulder. And as I watched her ... I really just wanted to give her hug. I felt sorry for her. Then I caught myself feeling sympathetic, wandering why it took an attractive women to make me feel like that. It's really fucked up. I looked at these people as destitute ... until a hot girl walked by. So as to why crazy people are never attractive, I think it has to do with how they're handled. We never really notice the hot, crazy chicks because someone is taking care of them. We, as a society, don't hesitate to send away the ugly and the insane, but we seem more tolerable if the insane has tits and ass.

    by johnny

I love zack snyder's movies visualy but he's a superficial director that doesnt know how to emotionaly involve his audience. The artisticness in watchmen for example was terrific but the characters were all shallow and superficial and hard to care about. Visualy he's the right man for the job but superman really needs someone who knows how to reach a audience emotionaly like stephen spielberge or james cameron. You really can't beat the first two supermans in my opinion superman was a disaster at 3 when they started watering down the john williams music like every other sequel franchise that tanks and becomes garbage (i like the first two batmans and thats it as well lol and i can go on and on, bond sucks for removing the john barry score, hellraiser sucked after 2 removing the chris young music and terminator sucked after 2 removing the brad fidel score and watering it down). when will hollywood learn :p. superman deserves so much more. It will all depend if they put williams score back in if i see it.

Compelling Story & Characters vs. Empty Imagery

    by Grinning White Skull

If you don't feel anything for the characters and it is all eye candy with no story this film will open with the kids but die quick. I know for a fact the script was considered awful (their words) and boring by many in Hollywood. But hey, 300 was awful and nothing but eye candy and homosexual alpha male hormonal gizz so this time Synder is sticking women in as the bad asses. It could be huge with the Twilight crowd. I'll catch this after it comes out on TV in a year or so.

  • superman started sucking 3 onward after watering down and eventualy almost removing the williams score just like every other franchise that tanks.

  • Feb. 23, 2011, 1:17 a.m. CST

And hopefully, those jump cuts will NOT be in the film.

    by Se7en

And no rock music in a Superman film please. Classic, Epic. Concentrate on THE FIRST FILM as a CLASSIC STAND ALONE FILM (like Star Wars and Matrix), then the 2nd and 3rd could become a trilogy. (like Star Wars and Matrix). Yes they're perfect examples of Sci-fi Epic with heart.

You don't "power down" Superman. You power-up his adversary

    by The_Warrior_Poet

In Smallville, there's a scene where Lex/Zod and Clark fight. At one point Lex/Zod is punching Clark in the face with Clark's back pressed against a giant rock and the rock shatters. Clark bleeds a little from the mouth and nose. Perfect! You could even make it so his battle injuries weaken him so he can only leap tall buildings instead of fly after sustaining a few hard punches and kicks. Then, mid fight, have Lex bathe the combatants in red sunlight, bringing the fight into true life-or-death stakes. Then have Lois or Jimmy break Lex's yellow sun filter, restoring their powers for the final epic duel. So long as there is real risk involved (think Empire Strikes Back) instead of boring, flashy acrobatics (Revenge of the Sith) we'll be satisfied. I say, use a brand new villain ala Earth One. In fact, if Earth One were translated frame-by-frame into the Man of Steel movie it would be a guaranteed hit. But by all means, swing for the fences Snyder/Nolan

  • Feb. 23, 2011, 4:01 a.m. CST

Is Snyder actually only 14 years old..

    by Fortunesfool

or does he just make movies with that intelligence and life experience level. You know, like how he missed the point of Watchmen completely by giving them the ability to punch people across rooms and take insane amounts of punishment; and lets not forget the immature sex scenes. Wake me up when he makes something intelligent that isn't someone else's work.

    What would be really great....

    by Kai_Mah'gra

....would be if we could stop hearing from all the Snyder haters just how much this trailer looks like a video game and how much the movie (which they still haven't watched mind you) will all be style over substance. It's really amusing how much they all watched 300, hated it, and still found a way to watched the Watchmen regardless while knowing what Snyder is all about, and now, still knowing what Snyder is all about here they are right back again to give us their critique on a trailer to a Snyder film. I bet you five hundred bucks right here and now that everyone who's spoken shit about Snyder on this board is not only going to watch this movie in theaters (even though they'll claim they caught it on DVD or something) but will also be right back here when the talkbacks for the trailers for the Superman movies are released bitching and moaning like the bitches they are of just how much it sucks but will still oddly find a way to watch it in Theaters regardless. Kinda like the Michael Bay haters who bitch about Transformers 3 trailers after having watched BOTH transformers 1 and 2 and knowing what Bay is all about. Never cease to amuse me. But maybe that's just me.. You see me I'm different. When I see a Talkback for a let's say, Sex and the City movie, you know what I don't do? I don't go on it and start bitching about what an awful movie it's going to be. Why ? BEcause I probably caught like 5 minutes f the show on TV and saw what soul-stealing crap it is, that I resolved never to watch anything to do with that show again, and guess what, I stick to that. I especially don't go to talkbacks of Sex and the City sequel talkbacks, particularly if I had been somehow bamboozled into watching the first one (I don't know, maybe I was trying to get into some girls pants and this was her condition), and start bitching about how this will be a sucky movie because the first one really sucked. It's stupid. IF you don't like Snyder, fine. Go with God. Stop bitching and moaning to the rest of us who might actually be interested in his movies about how you've never liked his movies. What? his first movie wasn't enough to convince you that you don't like him that you had to watch ALL of them to get a complete picture? What are you a Moron? Rant over.

Superman Returns was an anti-dramatic, anti-climactic turd...

    by OptimusBob

(on the discovery of the remains of Krypton) "Once i got there i found ... nothing." I would have thought that a more interesting way to explain Supes' absence would be that he found Kryptonian survivors on a neighbouring planet and was helping them build/develop Kandor/New Krypton. A bit predictable, but only to Superman fans, certainly more appealing than "...nothing." The film more or less just stops with him finding out he has a son, with no definite resolution. It's like the first 2 acts dragged on too long, so they left out the 3rd. And don't get me started on Kate Bosworth's Roofie inspired/influenced performance.

    by knowthyself

One of my biggest gripes are how the CGI stunt double Superman does not hold up at all. They should have done more practical effects. Snyder manages to make CGI that can stand the test of time. 300 and Watchmen still look great.

    A few things

    by lecter1914

I didnt think Trick Or Treat was hated by Geeks. I thought it was loved by Geeks and hated by the studio that didnt know how to market it. My most recent guilty pleasure was Case 39. Yeah, I know everyone hated it(all five people that saw it) but I liked it...sue me. Also, I think Snyder gets a free pass from me simply because Dawn Of The Dead blew me out of the theatre. I was insanely surprised by how good it was..conversely I really hated 300. It felt repetitive and monotonous. Watchmen...I feel bad for Snyder on that one. He gave us what we wanted (squid aside) which was a faithful adaptation to the book. Unfortunately it was the most boring thing i've ever had the displeasure of watching..but it looked nice. I have no thoughts on Super Man...I don't care..sorry..I don't. I wasnt sold on Sucker Punch at first but after this trailer I'm already in the theatre. I think Ive been brainwashed seeing as how Panic Switch is such a badass song and now I'm going to associate the movie with it and have to see it...similiar to how I now associate Hey Little World with Kick Ass....

I have to agree, Snyder makes pre-pubescent slo-mo nipple fests

    by SithMenace

I like Dawn of the Dead for what it was (not nearly as good as Romero's, but good), but I haven't liked anything he's done since. I hated 300, Watchmen was wrong (should've been done more like Heat), I won't anywhere near the guardian owls movie and Sucker Punch looks like a 13 year old's fever dream. Thanks God I'm not a huge Superman fan, although it would have been nice to see a film with a large budget that got everything right. It looks like Snyder is going to be the one that makes everyone start second guessing Nolan.

  • Feb. 23, 2011, 1:56 p.m. CST

    "not testing well"

    by redkamel

probably because its Michael Bay-style on steroids. Sucker punch looks like its going to suck donkey balls. Its clear they were looking for a way to make a bunch of gret CG scenes with robots, ninjas etc (all the things the under 25 demographic wants) and they needed to mix in hot chicks too. If we gave them superpowers they could actually do the fighting in skimpy clothing. Hmm...how can we do all this with minimal writing effort...oh I know, we'll make it all a dream/mental break! (hit print)

If I don't like a filmmaker, I don't take the time to go out of my way — time that the haters claim is so precious to them — to watch every single movie that filmmaker creates so I can then spend more precious time trashing his or her movies. I enjoy all of Zac Snyder's movies. I own Dawn of the Dead and Watchmen on DVD, and 300 on Blu-ray. I loved Superman Returns, warts and all; yes, it needed more action. But seen as a romantic drama that just happens to feature a superhero as a main character, it actually works.
