A Nice, Clear Look At THUNDERCATS Figures (From Cartoon Network's New Series, As Well As 'Classic')...
Merrick here...
Over the past few weeks, we've been covering Cartoon Network's impending THUNDERCATS revamp (HERE and HERE, for example).
Some of this coverage incorporated stills from Bandai's forthcoming toy line based upon the series - but much of what we saw were crude vids and hastily nabbed snapshots from the recent New York Toy Fair.
Now we have some much clearer product images to share with you - which give you a very nice sense of the characters' tweaked designs and the toys' level of detailing.
Here are some 4" figures from the new series' line... (top to bottom) Lion-O, Tygra, Panthro, and Cheetara.

Per Bandai...
- Each of the 4” figures comes with a weapon and/or accessory that is unique to each character.
- All 4” figures include an embedded magnet in the figure for interaction with multiple SKUs across the line, activating unique features.
A closer look at the series' iconic Swords of Omens, which ...includes lights and sounds with an extendable blade!
Some shots of the new Thundertank...note Snarf peeking out of the cockpit (or whatever you call the little drivey place in a tank) . Bandai says...
- The ThunderTank comes with a 4” scaled Snarf figure, designed to activate the magnetic “ThunderCats, Hooo!” sound effects.
- Launch the Bikes with a simple push of a button.
- The new 2011 4” figures can ride inside and unlock special ThunderTank features.

Finally, some 8" 'classic' figures, based on the progenitor series from the 80s, will also be released. Here's a look at 'classic' Lion-O and Tygra. Pretty nice...

Stay tuned for more as the show approaches its debut....

or maybe it's just because of the gay stances they put the new one's in.
-
Though I thnik a CG Thundercats using Avatar per-cap would be cooler...
-
I will absolutely have to have this. Cue eye roll when my wife sees me walk in the door with it.
-
I hope that since they're doing a revamp that they start to show old episodes again.
-
How creepy.
-
Panthro is about to offer to jack someone off Tygra stand's like C3-PO and Cheetara look's like Neytiri.
-
AND WHERE'S SNARF?!
-

cheetara FAIL. The one T-cats rule- make cheetara hot.
by THE_ONE_MAN_GANG
so typical. what is wrong with people these days.
-
Tube sword?
-
So she looks like an emo w/too much hair gel. Though I do like Panthro, that "grizzled veteran" look is much how I always thought of him, though IDK about all the big scars. His coolest thing was that despite being this really big guy he was really fast and agile and could evade with the best of'em. Ah well, looking forward to it either way, should at least be worth a laugh.
-
Fucking sucks.

I've been out of the loop on this for a while. Can someone tell me what happened to the thundercats movie?
by Pigdog
-
It's true.
-
comes with:
> tiny claw accessory
> fist that can jack of a baby or small toddler!
-
These look like deformed versions of what we had growing up. I really loved that the figures eyes could even light up.
-
Or at least ape-shaped ones?
-
Feb. 22, 2011, 10:48 a.m. CST
They've made Lion-o into an emo pussy. Panthro looks okay though I guess
by Pigdog
-
Even as a kid, I never got the appeal of the Thundercats. Would someone please explain?
-
Not much of a leap on the designs. Why not put efforts, and funding, into a new original series instead of rehash of old crap.
-
Do kids even buy action figures? I thought it was all about Facetubes and You Space these days.
-
I'm all for an update, but the new designs suck.
-

I want them to continue work on that Thundercats movie. Looked good!
by moonlightdrive
-
...but the kids seem to like it, and that's why they're doing this.
-
Bring back the Sliverhawks! Heck, let's do it live acation! We can borrow the god/goddess costumes from the new Clash of the Titans...
-
FUCK ANIME! They always make men look like faggot teenagers. What's the fucking DEAL with that shit?
-
If the last four, well, the last few remaining anyway, of an entire species of being are named, Lion-O, Cheetarah, Tigra and Panthro, doesn't that kind of limit the names of the rest of the demographic? I mean, did every Tiger family member have a name that deviated from Tiger? And so on ... Kind of a big coincidence, right?
-
Not too interested in Dynomutt, but The Blue Falcon was badass!
-
Where's the porn parody? Kind of cries out for it, yes? Look, my "Sword of Womens" includes lights and sounds with an extendable, um, "blade!"
-
If it wasn't for CONAN THE BARBARIAN. You probably already know this, but He-Man was supposed to have brown hair, as the original action figure was for the new CONAN movie.
But being that CONAN was hard R (with plenty of boobs and blood), Mattel (or Hasbro) didn't think it would be a good seller to have toys based on an R-rated movie.
Being that they didn't want to scrap the entire production of toys, they simply colored the hair to yellow, came up with a more STAR WARS back story, and WALA! The first animated commerical was created.
On a side note, I can't really complain that much about the new THUNDERCAT designs... I rather like them (Panthro looks a lot like Jet Black from COWBOY BEBOP). It may be a different story once we see them in action, but frankly I never cared for THUNDERCATS to begin with (though the title sequence I always thought was pretty cool in an american anime sort of way), though that fake fan-made trailer on Youtube would be a movie I would pay money to see...

If Lion-O fucks Cheetarah and they have a kid, will it be named Cheet-o?
by Jaster
Just sayin'.
-
What did Bandai do there exactly, take the arms off of McFarlane's first figure of The Creech? I don't ever remember Panthro having fists the size of compact cars. That new line looks like complete shit. The classics though dwarf them in comparison (although Tygra gimpy right hand looks seriously fucked up compared to his left).

Will the new Thundercats piss themselves laughing at the end of each show?

New Panthro is terrible.

Or does the original Lion-O look like he could be related to Ronald McDonald?
Here are some concept images from the failed film:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Wa5ZmL_ju48/TMc3pN3txkI/AAAAAAAAAUo/J4h3Jdbkpj4/s1600/Thundercats___Lion_o_Redesign_by_Konartist3D.jpg
http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Wa5ZmL_ju48/TMc3xlDmHGI/AAAAAAAAAUs/G0zJPuabIuA/s1600/movieline-liono.jpg
Also, I never realized it until I saw the opening title sequence on Youtube right now (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=29l0xAAJT8Y&feature=player_embedded) that the animation was done by the same people who did THE LAST UNICORN and THE HOBBIT made-for-TV films (Rankin and Bass I believe?).
-
Hoooooooooooooooooooooh!
-
including Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, and practically every Santa tv special known to mankind.
-
This is truly a disturbing universe.
-
What was that episode where Mum-Ra tied her to a machine that would pull her arms and legs off? or did I dream of that?
-
fucking ugly style... i'm sick of the manga look. so ugly and lazy.
-
looks like someone copy and pasted cowboy bebop character designs and gave them shittier weapons. Esp. Jet...panthro
-
Was everybody mounting Cheetara???
-
First - look at the classic Lion-0 - he looked like a fucking MAN (ok, maybe a flamingly gay man but still) at least there was no doubt that he was a MAN, and NOT A CHILD. Now, look at the new Lion-0 - "he" has a face like a gender-ambiguous child. Looks about as menacing as a tellytubby.
-
Just sayin'.

I used to love the thundercats as well. But like transformers and mask, it's better to just keep the memory intact, instead of actually rewatching the old shows. Moreover studio 4c has done some of the best anime out there. Anyone for example seen Tekkonkinkreet? If you haven't, watch it now! One of the best anime's ever!!!(directed by Michael Arias, an american guy who once went to japan for a job and never left. He was crucial in making the animatrix as well)
-
Transformers was my thing, but I grew out of that when I was 12.
-
I'm not a collector at all, but I have to admit it's really cool going into the store and seeing the vintage Star Wars line complete with Kenner logo. Brings back memories of huge walls of SW action figures everywhere from the 5 and dime to the grocery store.
-
I mean Star Wars figures costing between 8 and 10 bucks??..FUCK YOU TOY COMPANIES!!! I may just take a piss in my local toy aisles to make a point.
-
...........what?

Nope. Call me when Mel Gibson or John McTiernan are lined up for the live-action fillm.
by The_Genteel_Gentile
Now THAT would be truely epic. This ain't gettin' it done at all.
-
I can totally picture him slobbering drunk, stumbling around bitching about the jews and demanding blowjobs.
-
So, like, a pirate Mel Gibson would be really conflicted. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_pirates
-
They've done some incredible work (including the aforementioned TEKKONKINKREET, which I still think has the best animation... ever). I'd like to see it in motion. I remember THUNDERCATS from back when I was wee -- I loved it. I had Lion-O and Mum-Ra and both had light-up eyes. I used to put them in with my He-Man stuff, but they were larger, so it was weird.
-
Panthro, aka JETT.
-
That's an improvement.
-
but overall I think they are an improvement. Certainly digging the new tank and Panthro's mutton chops
-
The original designs are still the best. I'll be glad when the need for American cartoons to look like anime is over.
-
don't have anything against the anime look but let American cartoons look American. Please!
-
cat piss...
-
sorry about that
-
sorry about that
-
These look really great. Most toys today look really nice; much better than the stiff lookin' things we had growing up.

Umm, The Original Thundercats Was Technically Anime Too
by NeonFrisbee
As was the Transformers and GI Joe. They were on the cheap side, of course, not the best examples of anime, but they *were* made in Japan. So railing againse these new, more anime designs is kindof, well, stupid. Oh, and they look WAY better than the original designs. Sorry.
-
But, the no shoes thing on Lion-O makes them less Anthro and more Furry. But that's just my own thing about animals without clothes are animals. Or without proper attire for their biological setup. If it has fingers, it needs a shirt, if it has toes it needs shoes and pants. That's why Goofy gets a fucking car and a house, and Pluto lives outside with no nuts. MB
-
And why's the black guy gotta be Panthro?! Might as well call the brother Neeg-Ro. SHheeeeeeeeeeeeeit.
-
like he-man the orginal thundercats...look...gay at least the new look is not as homo...fucking anime
