Tom Hardy is interviewed in the UK and says... he's signed for more INCEPTION films...

Hey folks, Harry here...

With INCEPTION making over $800 million world wide... it would seem pretty inevitable that they would continue...  but I kind of hope that they wouldn't.   The story had a deliberate ending and its magic that it wove over the audience that fell gaga in love with it, might sour if it was additionally complicated.   BUT - if they are doing a sequel to CLASH OF THE TITANS remake... it'd seem like a no-brainer to do it with INCEPTION, but would Nolan do it?   Without him, there'd be no point.

Also - the news that Hardy will not be wearing the Gimp mask - and is going from 168lbs to 196lbs - and we suppose that would be pure muscle gain...   that's a pretty impressive difference.   Not a lot, but every tidbit is a tad juicy to mull over.

Hi Harry.

Hope you are feeling better mate

Tom hardy has just finished a tv interview on uk tv show Alan Carr chatty man. Not a great interview, but did give some nice little nuggets

Firstly he mentioned that he is signed for further inception movies. He was not sure if it would happen, but is signed up for it.

He also quickly talked about his role in the new batman movie. A picture was shown to the tv audience of Bain from the joel schumacher Batman and Robin. He made a point if saying Chris Nolans Bain would be a non-gimp mask wearing villain. He also mentioned he had 3 months to bulk up from is current frame of 12 stone to 14 stone to start filming in may.

As I said not much, but still interesting

Keep up the good work, from and old school reader

    by TresEquis

Nolan is supposedly set to direct a Howard Hughes biopic, and he takes approximately two movies to push a film out, meaning that the earliest we'd see a Nolan-directed Inception sequel would be 2016 (Dark Knight Rises in 2012, Hughes pic in 2014)

Yeah Harry.. for someone that didn't really like Inception, do you really care if they continue it? Or have you altered your thoughts on the film? I'm of the mind that a sequel that further explores the world that comprised that movie is explored, I'm ok with it. I don't want the Dom Cobb story part 2. But I'd be just fine with an Eames and Arthur story.. or other characters becoming more of the focus... and whether Nolan directs or not.. if he gives his blessing, I'd be ok with a sequel / prequel. But we all know it would be best if he directs it.

    signed, yes, but...

    by kurtisaurus

Just because he signed a contract saying he would be committed to doing Inception sequels doesn't mean there will be more Inception coming our way. I imagine of number of tentpole movies have stipulations in the contract for the players that they should be willing to appear in at least 3 (or however many) movies in the series. Doesn't mean they do (or will ever) come to be.

  • I was happy hearing that news, but when Keanu Reeves' representation sent out word he never met with the wachowski uh, siblings re: two new fliqs I was a lil disappointed. Anyway, I never knew Bane's mask was a "gimp" mask, I just hope he ends up looking badass for tdkr. Then again, the person in question reporting this is referring to the villain as "Bain" so maybe this is not entirely accurate either.

    by CherryValance

It sounds like he might have signed up for more as a part of the Inception contract. I would assume this sort of thing came up after Katie Holmes didn't want to return to TDK. You'd want to make sure you're actors are on board for more than one, to avoid that sort of thing I'd think. But I wouldn't mind sequels. I mean once you create a world like that it's almost a shame not to explore it more.

Allow me to repeat the whole joke: "Also - the news that Hardy will not be wearing the Gimp mask - and is going from 168lbs to 196lbs - and we suppose that would be pure muscle gain... that's a pretty impressive difference. by stu_pickles

they will try to implant an idea in some government leader instead of businessmen. they'll take it to the extreme and ruin it by turning it into a depersonalized "save the world" garbage. i thought some of the strongest stuff in Inception was the character side story with Cilian and his father. I, like Hardy, really wanted to see what was going to happen behind that vault door. it made the whole story human and i really dont think they can ever do better.

From what I know, Hollywood contracts usually include future sequels in the text of the contracts. Not necessarily that they will hapen, but just as an 'in case we do' policy... There was some talk that Nolan might write/produce a videogame based on Inception, which could be pretty cool... Make it like Heavy Rain meets Silent Hill.

I actually agree with Harry, an Inception sequel is completely unnecessary and shouldn't be made. You got one right, big guy, I'm proud of you.. of course, the fact you yourself know that multiple film contracts by the studios is pretty common practice, especially big name movies that are planned to make a fuckload of money is somewhat suspect. Ergo, this "story" is completely meaningless, and really has no point to exist, except for some ulterior motive (or you're just on some wicked pain-meds for your self-inflicted health devastation); however, subtle taunts r ur forte. Maybe you're attempting to re-ingratiate yourself by pretending you give a shit about Inception with your opening sentence, or maybe you decided to report on shit people obviously care about, after the Justin Beiber thing blew up in your face. But hey, no, that's really great, we'll have an in-depth review and analysis published on the site for a demographic that doesn't even know your fucking site EXISTS, and would repulsed if they even were aware you existed, versus a blurb about standard studio practice. Hey, you don't think those Harry Potter kids signed to more than one flick at first, right? That just don't make no sense at all. Fucking KNOCK THIS HACK SHIT OFF AND GET IT TOGETHER!!!!!

    Hardy as Bane

    by Kammich

To those weary of Tom Hardy's size, just watch "Bronson." I don't care if he's short, or what the hell the dude weighs -- he's an imposing figure, especially when he's playing batshit crazy. Not to mention, I truly don't expect a "The Man Who Broke the Bat" incarnation of Bane, anyway. That is like when we were all expecting Nolan to take the easy route and pipe in "The Killing Joke" for the Joker. As is evident, Nolan went in a completely different direction... a direction that had never been seen before, and worked quite effectively in the context of Nolan's film. My expectation--and honestly, my hope--is that Nolan will accentuate and put his own spin on the original notion of the character, as designed by Doug Moench and Chuck Dixon. In that origin, Bane was an adolescent boy forced to serve a life sentence in the Carribean's toughest prison in place of his escaped, revolutionary/terrorist father(obviously, Nolan can tweak the details here to fit the context of the films). Bane spends the decades behind bars honing his mental brilliance, physical strength, and criminal accumen. He realizes that prison is a place that can only be ruled by fear. And when he escapes, he flees to Gotham for that very reason... he knows Batman rules the city by fear, and he envies it; feels like he can top it. So yeah, I want to throw out all the Schumacher associations, and you can even get rid of the comic incarnation's mask, for all I care. If Nolan can get the character right, I have NO doubt that Tom Hardy will run away with it, and potentially put Ledger's villainous turn to shame. Hardy as Bane has me more excited than anything else about 'TDKR.'

  • Feb. 21, 2011, 10:15 p.m. CST

    And, I forgot...

    by Kammich

No "Venom." It makes no sense in the so-called "Nolan universe," and its NOT the essence of the Bane character. It was a tacked-on device to make Bane physically surpass Batman and have Bane's physical strength match his equally-imposing mental prowess. Just have him be a guy who spends 8 hours a day, for over 20 years, working out in prison. Not far fetched.

It's like a "just in case" clause. Doesn't mean it will absolutely happen. In the case of Inception, I hope it doesn't. It should stand as a one-shot movie. (Unless Nolan has something planned that'll knock it out of the ballpark).

just watched this one again over the weekend, I had genuinely forgotten how much I enjoyed this film, if you haven't seen it watch it. The real life Bronson may well be the most violent prisoner in the UK (somehow I doubt it) but seriously, if he gurned like Tom Hardy does before he twats you I'd be in stitches!!

I saw this interview and ...

    by Bobthegrinch

There was no suggestion that a sequel to Inception was on the cards. He simply stated that the contract for the first included an option on any possible sequels which he said was not unusual when you sign on to a big film these days. As for the Bane comment, I don't recall him saying that he definitely wouldn't be wearing a mask but that the Bane of Batman and Robin is not indicative of the direction Nolan would be going with it. I could be wrong though.

    A dream in a dream...

    by The_Skook

I thought ‘Inception’ was fun, but Nolan owes a debt to ‘A Dream of Wessex’ by Christopher Priest. Priest also wrote ‘The Prestige’, so Nolan will certainly have read it. It also deals with multiple dream levels projected within a dream. Different plot, but very similar premise. There is nothing new in this world... just variations.

    More inception..........

    by u.k. star

I'm shocked to hear that there are still any "big" or potentially big films that don't include clauses for multiple films in the contracts these days. It's just good business. As for more inception I have no problem with it either way. the film was self contained enough that, even with that ending it is complete; but at thje same time it plays like a film that has more to say either prior to its start or after its conclusion. a lot of good films are like that, sequeled or not. Raiders of The Lost Ark is similar

shouldnt say 196 pounds of muscle....

    by GavinVanDraven

you should instead say... 196 pounds lean body mass... which is to say muscle, bones, blood skin... all of the above minus the fat. still, 196 for a guy 5'9 aint huge or nothing.. but size is an illusion. the more cut you are the bigger you look. go ahead and google image search ufc fighter/former pride champion. Wanderlei Silva. he is 5'11 and fights anywhere from 185 to 205 lbs, and tell me that dude doesnt look like a beast! 2 inches taller than hardy right? that dude looks like he's gonna rip your head off and shit down your neck. or how about 5'10 Georges St. Pierre who fights at 170 lbs and walks around at about 180-190, and is by all accounts as fit and as skilled of a martial artist as the Batman is supposed to be? i mean... he's got 3 blackbelts in Kyokushin Karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Gaidojutsu, and is accomplished in Wrestling, Muay Thai, and Boxing,... seriously, this guy would fuck 99.9% of people on the planet up! anyways, i am sure the goal is simply to make Hardy look a bit bigger than Bale, which can be done. who knows how much of his build we will see, in direct comparison to Bale's anyhow? costume could add an appearance of mass. lifts on the shoes for height. it can be done.

Bane mask is not the big issue

    by solitaire

His origin is. Bane is like Bruce Wayne, a product of a wounded child becoming determined to grow in all aspects, mental and physical in order to achieve a specific goal. Bruce wants justice, Bane wants to find his destiny. bruce has literally everything except parents, Bane has less than shit, including no parents. Bruce travels the world and trains with the best, Bane spends his childhood in solitary confinement, making a world in his mind to explore and eating the fish that flood into his cell (it makes sense if you read the first appearance) gains the protein to shape himself through basic exercise and isometrics. Bruce adpots the guise of a bat to strike fear into criminals, Bane wears a luchadore style mask because he is south american, and the luchadore are a symbol of the peoples will, their strength and pride. BOTH Bruce and Bane use venom to gain the edge, but Bruce discards it when it affects his mind and he becomes an addict, while Bane thrives on it and makes it part of himself. Bane exists in his earliest incarnation to destroy Batman and prove himself superior in every way, and Batman never sees him coming (broken and done, indeed) Now, if Bane is simply a muscular guy on drugs, it kind of makes him a crap character in comparrison, no matter what kind of mask he is wearing, if any. I'm not concerned, though. As Bane is actually one of the more plausible characters, I think he is perfectly suited to Nolans world as is.

You have a point, people often forget or discount the fact that Bane is Latino. I always saw Antonio Te Maioha, the guy who played Barca in Spartacus as Bane. He is Maori but has the right look (6' 4", dark features, built like a tower). I'll reserve judgment for now, Nolan has done well so far in terms of respect for the Batman mythios. At least he is not a lumbering mute dumbass like in Batman and Robin...Chriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiist, the memory brings with it pain.

Then goes on to voice his opinion? WHAT OPINION?!? That's like me reading 2 pages of a novel and saying "I didn't enjoy it". Utterly pathetic. Anyway, there's too much conjecture and falsehoods perpetrated by these supposed "insider" interviews. The worst part is, you AICN administrators feel like any person that questions your 3rd hand hearsay is a threat - so you 'blacklist' them. If you are going to publish something, at least know that it's right. If it isn't right, why would you act offended if your audience points this out?

Bane doesn't need the mask or Venom. He's meant to be the dark foil of Batman. The Joker will always be his nemesis, but Bane was more about making a dark Batman; a physical and mental paragon, someone who built himself to peak human condition in mind and body. Then went around fucking people up.

    Inception 2: Freddy vs Ghostbusters

    by flax

Domin Cobb and friends team up with the ageing Dr Venkman and his colleagues. Together they go after a ghost who attacks people in their dreams: Freddy Kruger. I would fucking trade The Hobbit, At the Mountains of Madness and The Dark Tower for that shit. It would be so fucking christing amazing. On a more sombre note, I'd love an Inception sequel. Christopher Nolan's directorial style has always seemed a little bland to me, so I'd be cool if he just wrote it and let Darren Aronofsky direct it instead. Get Clint Mansell to score, maybe in collaboration with Hans Zimmer (or he could just rework the guy's themes like what he did on Black Swan). It would be fantastic. If you don't want an Inception sequel, or you think 'we don't need an Inception sequel', then guess what? Fuck you. You don't have to watch it you don't want to. There's a whole universe of brilliant untapped potential there and I'd kill to see some of it realised on the silver screen. The videogame Nolan is working on is a step in the right direction – maybe the game could be an interquel showing all the shit Cobb had to go through to find Saito in Limbo? That would rock.

    The top at the end

    by flax

Oh, and by the way, if you think the ambiguity of the spinning top at the end of the first film is an argument against making a sequel, you're an idiot. Unless they decide to open the second film with a shot of the top falling over, there is absolutely no reason why a sequel would compromise the ambiguity of the ending. Think, people. Jesus. Someone made the point that the ending of the first film would be ruined, then everyone started parroting it without stopping to consider all the logical flaws of that argument.

I don't believe that an INCEPTION sequel is in the cards.

    by AsimovLives

And all this talk about Hardy being contractually obliged for a INCEPTION sequels doesn't mean there will be one. Seems more like a typical holywood deal of today. Studios will always try to turn any movie into a franchise, and with hopes of sequel if it makes bank. Seems more like a typical contract clause then anything we should take seriously as a would-be movie to be made in the near future... or any future, for that matter. And as soem have said before, INCEPTION was totally designed to be it's own movie. An ambiguous ending doesn't mean instant sequel. Seesm that people have lost their capacity to understand the concept of ambiguous ending anymore. To all of us who grew up watching earlier John Carpenter's movies, ambiguous endings were were just another day at the office, we just accepted them for what they were, and had fun with them. God, i miss those days!

    by tensticks

There are still a TON of ideas, concepts, plotlines, characters et al to be mined from earlier, better "what is reality?" films like Dark City, The Matrix, Existenz, Dreamscape and others...let Nolan put his auteur touch on them so that he can continue to be heaped with the genius visionary tag he so richly does not deserve.
