If You've Been Liking THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS Series Lately, Maybe You'll Like TERMINATOR!?

Merrick here...

THIS piece at Deadline says that Universal may be interested in picking up the floundering TERMINATOR rights for director Justin Lin, who brought us the most recent three FAST AND THE FURIOUS films (including the upcoming and promising FAST FIVE).

There is, apparently, some consideration being given to re-pairing Lin with scripter Chris Morgan -  who wrote TOKYO DRIFT, FAST & FURIOUS. and FAST FIVE -  the installments Lin directed.

Meanwhile, we recently learned that TWILIGHT SAGA screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg would be scripting a long-gestating HIGHLANDER remake for Lin.  No word on how HIGHLANDER developments would impact Lin's potential involvement in this still-theoretical TERMINATOR project, if at all.

I've very much enjoyed the Lin/Morgan FAST films and am quite looking forward to FAST FIVE.  This said, TERMINATOR is an entirely different kettle of fish (that 's a strange saying) requiring...at the very least...a level of storytelling neither has brought to the table...yet.  But does this intrinsically mean they're not up to the task?  Not at all.

It'll be interesting to see how this shakes out.
