X-MEN FIRST CLASS Trailer is up!!!
Hey folks, Harry here
Alright - now that I've watched it a dozen times with earbuds in... and after a wonderful debate on the kind of useless nature of Yoda - and how his arrogance pushed Anakin to the darkside, followed by a wonderful Health Care discussion with my Doctor... I can now chime in on this trailer...
I like it. This is the teaser trailer. It is meant to convey setting and tone primarily - and in this case the setting is the past - and the tone is tension. It does both of those things very nicely. I find myself wanting more dialogue, wanting to see Kevin Bacon's Sebastian Shaw doing something awesome with a laced shirt ripped open and a heaving sweaty hairy chest. But that's because I'm a bit of a fetishist when it comes to Shaw. Perhaps my personal favorite character in the history of X-MEN comics. Along with Nightcrawler and Cyclops and Colossus.
But I'm absolutely on board for this. I'm curious to see the "true" story of the Cuban Missile Crisis that involved Mutants and that beautiful classic Blackbird! I'm still annoyed at the Diamond thing with Emma Frost, simply because that's not the version of her that I'm familiar with, but I have to say - she looks WAY better than the version in WOLVERINE. I'm just hoping for a good deal of sadism from her.
I love the look of it all though. Really do. This could be very damn cool. And most likely, with Matthew Vaughn at the helm... will be!

YES!
-
didn't think this could be any good... it just might be
-
Yes, Finally!.... um, now I should watch the trailer so I can actually post an opinion.
-
never thought it could happen
-
Moreso than I expected.
-
Someone just beat me to it.
-
Too bad the movie still looks crummy.
-
u weren't even first lol
-
absolutely filthy, can't fucking wait for this beast
-
And I guess the Blackbird is waaaaay ahead of its time.
-
perhaps they only wear their seatbelts sometimes?
-
I SAW... I CAME AGAIN
-
if the effects don't look as bad in the final print. That sub looked pretty bad. The story is a given.
-
was a 1960s airforce project...right on the mark
-
I would've gone to see it no matter what, but that trailer made me excited.
-
GABBA GABBA!
-
. . .I guess Blue don't crack.
-
Convince lonesome male teens to watch this; Get some Emma Frost boobage hanging out in the next trailer please!!! We know she's got a bucket load of boob ;) Otherwise, yep, not bad...Beast looks better ;)
-
Good tone to the trailer. Looks like they are trying to tie it in with the the previous films (similar locations, cinematography, etc). Beast looks a little cartoonish, but it was only a glimpse. Also looks like strong acting here. Overall looks pretty good, and much better than prior expectations.
-
rev_skarekroe said: "That's a good trailer... Too bad the movie still looks crummy." you only find idiotic statements like that on aintitcool...
-
Would be really meh if they didn't put such a huge emphasis on the 60's (Kennedy, missle crisis, etc.). I can totally see this being an awesome movie now.
-
decent. not sold either way. who was that broad with the dragonfly wings?
-
In the comics she's actually Nightcrawler's mom. When you're a shapeshifter you can make yourself look as young as you like. How she's so well preserved when she loses her powers in X-Men 3, I can't explain...
-
Looks like a rushed film, which it is. Hopefully the film will turn it OK. Wake me up in 2012 when Nolan and Aronofsky do their thing.
-
I know it was the sixties... but I'm not sure I'm ready to see Xavier and Magneto double team a young black mutant girl with wings.
-
Yeah, even though she was 30-odd in X3 when she became human. But, hey, what do you expect from Fox? They are shit merchants.
-
Too bad good trailer so often doesn't equate to good film...
-
Hopefully it doesnt dissapoint.
-
That looked awesome!!!
-
FassBender looks BadAss!! Looks really good.
-
I was expecting garbage honestly. It seems like this was primed and ready for the rush through to cash in on the last of the X-Men craze. I had zero expectations for it. Wow, I was wrong, it actually looks very good.
-
looks like it has potential.
-
Her powers grant her immunity to diseases, enhanced agility, and agelessness Sabretooth #3: “My morphing powers continually revitalize my body cells and DNA memory. That’s why I can look just like I did all those years ago.”
-
I actually want to see this.

The "Mistique looks 30 in X3! Fuck Fox!" type of comment
by David Cloverfield
sobers me the fuck up. Holy shit, I'm on aintitcool, commenting on an X-men trailer, looking forward to a reasonable conversation. WHY? It's like waking up, and finding a dead hooker in your bed.
-
She was like 16 in X-Men Origins and I think that was based in the 80s, But in X-Men 1st Class she's around the same age and it's based in the 60s. Did she hitch a ride with Bishop???
-
Can't wait to see the X-MEN FIRST CLASS Trailer - but I must... damn slow net!
-
will steal this movie
-
Never doubt Vaughn! I'm really keen to see Kevin Bacon as Shaw though.
-
Good vibe and not a single smirking Gambitish overly tall Wolverine to be found

Will we find out why Magneto has white hair in X1?
by The_Motorcycle_Boy
Tell me, Fox! I have to know.
-
My Hospital Internet is better than yooours!! Neener-neener Neeeeeeeeeeeeener!!!!! lol
-
kick ass. and the less about that film the better. this trailer isnt bad. here is what will happen next. matthew vaughan, singer and fox will deliver a big budget xmen 5. aronofski will also be involved.
-
Pretty sure they'll give some kind of explanation. From the trailer it's obvious they get off on tying things tightly together (not sure I agree.) Mother-Daughter? Clone? The whole Wolverine movie was Logan's halucination in the adamantium chamber?
-
Wasn't on my radar (as I stated in a different thread) but after seeing this, I'm STOKED!
-
It looks MUCH more promising than I was originally willing to believe. The X-Men franchise really lost me from X3 onward and I had no hope for this film whatsoever. But it looks decent. I'm not willing to buy a ticket yet, though. Think I'll wait for word of mouth first. But yeah... the trailer looks much better than I thought it could ever be.
-
But I still think another fucking prequel is unnecessary.
-
Directed Layer Cake so he's cool in my book, hey Harry how are those push ups coming.
-
One could only hope that X-men Origins was "Aaaaaalll A Dreeeeeam" *Fingers crossed
-
kick ass was my fav from last year, cant wait to see this
-
I'm a fan of the comic and found the opposite to be true of Kick Ass, horrible general public typical super hero movie pandering style trailer (cute kids all dressed up!), almost perfect adaptation of the book with exception of Cage's altered character/death and the fucking intentional decompression of kicking the shit out of a little girl by adding a fucking jet pack.
-
It's a movie, fuck your 'history' bullshit. Grow the fuck up.
-
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...huh?.....wha?...TWILIGHT with mutants?.....zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
-
If I'm not mistaken, she was born in the 1930s in one of the Marvel universes, and her mutation allows her to age at a much slower rate than ordinary humans.
-
We shall see, oh and i HATE the X movies scaly Mystique, yuck.
-
Hate that cyclops is not in this. it should be the original x class.
-
and then avenged
-
Strange as it sounds, it doesn't seem like a cash-in. Yeah, it really deviates from the comics by this point, but that's a good thing, I can be surprised. It seems they thought this shit through.

Been awhile since I've been excited about a superhero movie
by Bass Ackwards
This one did if for me though, can't wait.
-
...but I hate how it ties to the previous films. Total reboot please!
-
SR-71 Blackbird YAY Claremontastic
-
There is no first class unless Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, and Iceman are on the team. The trailer was very meh. Magneto can hover so why is he holding on tight to the Blackbird? I guess FOX is too cheap with their F/X money.
-
charles erik and angel?
-
As a neutral, there's nothing there apart from maybe the cast that would make me see this. As a comic or even X-Men fan, there's little too. Such an unnecessary movie and a trailer that does bugger all in terms of selling it. The only hope is Matthew Vaughn getting good performances out of his leads, which at least isn't unlikely.
-
Based on Layer Cake alone I'll give this a shot.
-
How can ANYBODY say anything about the ages of the Xmen? They have all been around 30 years old in the comics for going on 48 YEARS now! If you say that the original team of Iceman, Marvel Girl, Beast, Angel and Cyclops were between 16 and 20 in the first ever issue. Then they are between 64 and 68 years old now.
-
They say if you do mental exercises in your head Harry that they will eventually make you want to them in real life, but I guess it is asking everyone a lot for you to take care of yourself so this site keeps running. You got a lot of drones that depend on you, don't let them down!
-
...Magneto in an X-MEN costume: not to thrilled about that.
-
You can't polish a turd Beavis
-
Now- I'll admit it looks good- way better than the Singer X-Men (which I felt were extremely meh) and the last Ratner act, which was also completely underwhelming. But goddammit- Really reboot the X-Men and get Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman, and Jean Gray, and the Brotherhood of evil mutants. Is it really that hard? That being said, I think Matthew Vaughn is the man-- and it will be good.
-
Is by far the coolest comic book villain of all time. Even better than the Joker. I hope this movie does him justice.
-
Like all prequels there will be continuity issues. They should have made the first X-Men movie about the First Class and continued on from there. And, the Beast should not be blue and furry yet. That came years later. They better make him be all funny, because he was.
-
I am still lukewarm about this though.

The fake Emma from XM O: Wolverine could be one of the Stepford Cuckoos or something
by Yaroh_Meringue
...or we could just pretend that X-MEN 3 and WOLVERINE don't exist except for Liev Schreiber. rev_skarekroe, Mystique was originally supposed to be Nightcrawler's FATHER. ... Oh, Claremont, you delightful pervert.
-
What ever fucking happened to him at least in cinema form. To me he was the most badass bad guy in the X-Men cannon. Why don't they bring him to the screen?
-
Not what I was expecting although I've been cautiously optimistic about this movie. We do need an X4 though, keep moving the story forward, make iceman the new leader, get in some new characters, bring back some old faces to.
-
Does he turn invisible?
-
Why does Xavier sound like Ewan McGregor's Obe Wan Kenobe at the end?
-
lol just think about it. . .
-
Very cool, loved it. Good response here as well, save the usual "LOOK AT ME! IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT RIGHT!!" crowd.
-
If this was an X-Men movie with Beast, Cyclops, Marvel Girl etc I'd probably be creaming over that trailer, but I'm finding it difficult to give a shit about this movie knowing it's related to X-Men 3, Wolverine etc
-
I guess if they'd just gone with a reboot it wouldn't be set in the 60s which is actually the coolest aspect of this movie.
-
Hell yea, the trailer is great, love the David Fincher style music but still cant tell with all the teen xmen sences if its gonna be a great movie but professor x and magneto conversation/clips yes gave me a stiff one. Down part about all this is that its base on the past 3 films, which were all shit. Heres hoping this one better than them.
-
and no more wondering why fox didnt buy time on the superbowl....this was far from awesome

So which character has the same teleporting as nightcrawler????
by Rebel Scumb
Around the 1min24 second mark someone teleports, its the same smokey effect as nightcrawler in X2
-
Look, I'm no rabid-obsessive, but that's what happened in X3's asinine plot. So, she should have reverted to her natural age being powerless and all. And this is obviously meant to tie directly into that trilogy seeing as this trailer shows footage from it. Lazy and sloppy stuff.
-
when you see the movie.... yikes. This trailer just looks and feels like the same old shit. There's nothing to jump for joy about. There's nothing new and nothing we haven't seen before. Even the cgi/sfx looks like a downgrade. Marvel needs to do everything it can to get this property back from 20th Century Fox. Once Marvel gets it back, only then are we likely to see the definitive X-Men movie.
-
Looks lame. SR71 Black Bird that was made long before it was actually made and could hover??? FAIL!!! Damn, people... everyone who jumped in on that trail are the reason we keep getting these shitty movies force fed to us.
-
Loved it!

by Tarantinos_Forehead
that'll eventualy get with mystique so there!
-
The whole idea I'm imagining, much like the comics is that with brilliant mutant minds like Beast and an unlimited supply of cash and possibly even government backing the X-Men have access to technology years beyond that of other people. Not to mention they have super powers and a fucking mutant seeking magic helmet, you're worried about the jet?
-
Vaughan and Goldman may have written a good script with good characters and a decent story. I have faith that it'll look good and that the cast will be solid (although Jason Flemyng seems a token Vaughan casting and his performances are only occasionally successful). The problem I have, and will have when I see this film, is that the continuity in the telling of only 5 stories is f'd. Emma Frost is a teen in the 70's but an adult 10 years earlier. Charles Xavier looks like James McAvoy in the 60's and weird Patrick Stewart 10 years later (Both thanks to Origins Wolverine). Gambit now can't really be used without messing continuity. Cyclops can't be in any film until the setting goes past whatever year in the 70's Wolverine is.I don't mind them changing things from the comics (like Iceman being younger than the other original X-men in the Singer films) but it's not hard to maintain continuity in 5 stories. The reason they haven't is because Fox execs or producers, someone anyway, said 'I don't care if it makes sense, throw more famous mutants in. That trailer has to be standing room only' and they didn't consider the future of the franchise. It's a shame. X-men and X2 set up a pretty good world.
-
Looks good. January Jones = yowza.
-
What's to say that when her powers were stripped she'd revert to her "Natural Age" if the idea is that her DNA keeps rewriting itself to keep her at a prime age simply removing her X-Gene and ability to transform/regenerate wouldn't AGE her assuming that her DNA had already reupped her vitality. Her body would stay the same aside from removing the her ability to do those things. Technically she hasn't even aged since puberty by that rationale and would most likely revert to 12/13 years old.
-
Sure, he's the leader of the X-men and they named the team after him but all his students tend to overshadow him in popularity with readers. In my opinion, Charlie's one of the most badass characters in the Marvel Universe. Just read X-men 117.
-
than what I had seen in development. It'll probably suck ass to. Emma Frost shouldn't be in this.
-
He can read minds...cool. Teleporting guy is neat. Girl with wings...alright. That dude is lifting a sub out of the water with his mutant ability....awesome! SR-71 Blackbird? I CALL SHENANIGANS!! This movie is gonna be SHIT.
-
because no matter what role McAvoy ever plays again, he's always going to be Leto II to me.
-
For those of you pissing and moaning about the Blackbird being in the film...do your history homework: Lockheed's SR71 Blackbird took its maiden flight on December 22nd 1964. I for one thought the trailer looked quite good. If nothing else the film can succeed on the acting chops of the two leads.
-
we might have just witnessed it. I have faith in Vaughn. I have zero in 20th Century Fox who haven't greenlighted an above average movie since Master And Commander, the last Fox film I willingly paid money to watch. There is no one with any balls or vision in charge of that clusterfuck of a studio. Would Alan Ladd Jr have greenlit such a piss poor version of The Day The Earth Stood Still?
-
Looks good in style, and I trust Vaughn to make the film entertaining, but if the script/story is shit then it doesn't matter how cool it is.
-
more like watchmen, the first script

Trailer looks good... Love that there's actually color in this film.
by Chewtoy
I got tired of all the grey/black in the first two... the franchise needed some vibrancy. Well, really the franchise needed someone else in charge of Fox when it came time to make #3. They made a lot of moronic decisions because Rothman, the studio chief, didn't like the franchise (or rather, because he didn't like that the franchise was launched by the person he replaced. It never looks good if you can't outperform the guy before you.) He wanted X-men 3 to be the last one... and then it opened bigger than the other two, and the Superhero craze was in full blast and there was no way he could walk away from the franchise and keep his job, so they've been trying to dig back out ever since.
-
Prequels. The Prequel Star Wars trilogy spent seven hours belaboring and re-enacting what we already knew from a two minute summary Obi Wan gave Luke in Return of The Jedi about Anakin turning to the Dark Side. I have about as much interest in seeing exactly when Magneto chose to go bad as I did in seeing Darth Vader as tow-headed and stiff acting tot. Who here was all, "Wow. I always wondered exactly when and how Logan lost his memory!"while watching X-Men Origins: Wolverine? (It hurts to even type that title.) Do we really need yet another movie about the rising tension between humans and mutants? Before he was that guy with the dumb helmet and corny name he was...Erik...Ooooh. Woah. ERIK!!? I didn't realize...And I guess I wasn't paying attention during X-Men 1 because I thought that since Erik Lenscher was a prisoner in a Nazi concentration camp he grew to hate humans and their appetitive desires. I didn't realize there was some OTHER reason to hate humans. I can't wait to find out what it is. I once tried collecting X-Men comics and found them darn near perplexing. This was when Elizabeth Braddock first became Psylocke and all that. I was always bored to tears. But still, at least there were stories where the Reavers crucified Wolverine and Freedom Force came to the rescue and you know, it wasn't THE SAME FREAKING STORY EVERY TIME! These X-Men movies are like Bourne Identity movies. They're all interchangeable.
-
WITH lines like "Peace was never an OPTION" Magneto can be the greatest villian seen on screen, but can it here? with this movie? I love the actor so im sooo hoping he murders it but I dont have overly high expectation, just high hopes.

No prize please. Everyone knows that the GOVERNMENT has SECRET TECHNOLOGY. After all, we've been on the moon since the '50s. You want to know how we got there? I'll tell you: anti-grav drive...anti-gravity technology. We stole it from the Nazis after World War II. It's perfectly obvious.

I have a feeling that Fox is gonna be pumping out X-Men films as long as they make money. Who knows? X-films may turn out to be like James Bond movies; one every few years. Some are gonna be good, some aren't. I feel that so far they've been *pretty* good - not great - films, with the obvious exception of Wolverine (yeah...I didn't hate X3, which of course some will say invalidates my opinion, whattayagonnado?), so I have hope this one will be pretty good given the creative team that's bringing it. And Fassbender.

My pal was doing drugs in a restroom with one of the cast, he said it will suck.
by the Green Gargantua
the cast member that is, but I will say the trailer looks better than allot of the god awful x films.
-
Looked pretty good... I liked the young Xavier and Magneto, and grounding it heavily in the 60s helps differentiate it from everything that has come before. As ever, the proof will be in the actual release... the trailer and acting looks good, but I have no idea if the story will be. Certainly, as far as continuity goes, Emma's presence really bugs me, as I don't see how she could be January Jones' age in the 60s and not be Patrick Stewart's age in the modern era, but... well, we'll see if they bother trying to explain that. As far as Mystique goes, I have no issue with her involvement. She's older than sin, after all. Additionally, everyone that thinks she shouldn't have still been (fairly) youthful when she lost her powers in X3... you're assuming that losing her powers would suddenly undo the years of her not aging. I see it more as cryo-sleep from sci-fi. While her powers are active, she is not aging at all. Once they go away, she starts aging again, but there is no 'age debt' that suddenly gets paid.
-
It has a crew of two in the cockpit...however it can carry a payload of approximately 3,500 lbs. So in essence it could carry the team in its "belly". Sorry...that jet is something of a particular passion of mine.

Especially if they have govt help. Who knows. The SR-71 in the X-Verse may have been built even sooner than that. It's not like it's based in fact. Morons gotta bitch about the small stuff. Which is cool with me. Fassbender has weight in these brief glimpses. Prof X looks like he's out of his depth by comparison. I like it.

Looks Good!!! One a negative note Fox can cut good trailers
by The Founder
-
But deep inside they know that shit blew away their expectations. See ya in line, haters!
-
Hi all, long-time reader, first-time commenter. I think this trailer is one of the better ones released in the last few months. The focus is most definitely on the Xavier / Magneto friendship and subsequent rivalry which, to me, seems the only way to do a prequel (which it isn't, but.. come on) justice. As far as I can tell this movie will try to establish CHARACTER above all else, not just with the comic book characters but for the picture as a whole as well. Wich is equally important in my opinion. I can only pray my impressions are correct...
-
In short Darwin is one of the mutants that Prof X sent to rescue the Xmen when they were held on that living island and they supposedly all died and Charles either never told anyone about them or erased the memories of the Xmen about them. His power allows him to evolve to adapt to any environment or situation he's in. If he's underwater he'll grow gills or in space he'd adapt to survive.
-
Obviously this is where Kurt's power and demonic look comes from.
-
Like the tone, the vibe, the general feel, the Massive Attack-esque dirty beat. Didn't like the "Before he was this, he was THIS." But I guess it's necessary for people not in the know. Looks good.

-
I'm almost positive this will blow X3 right out of the water. Tough thing to do, I know...
-
I've just gone from completely skeptical to cautiously optimistic. Nice how they cleverly avoided showing McKellen's or Stewart's actual faces through some well timed editing. They probably saved themselves a good $75.000 each per second of screen time.
-
I hope your right ihsahn... <br><br><br>Blackbird FTW .
-
The cast still looks nothing like their counterparts in the Singer films. The guy from Wanted has a terrible British accent. As much as I like the idea that they doing some Watchmen revisionist history on a major true event, it still doesn't make-up for the fact that the story sounds weak.
-
WOW!
-
Err... What?!.... James McAvoy is British , so how can his accent be bad ? Rofl...

Did I miss something? Between being arguably one of the best-received BNAT screenings ever, the good critical reception, and it being one of my favorite movies to come out last year it became popular to hate on....news to me.

but they have a long way to go yet before it's finished!
-
I have no desire to see a girl say the word "cunt". Sure, call me old, but I'll still kick your ass, and get laid nightly by my wife.
-
This and Captain America are now on my radar. Marvel is making up for 2010. Maybe we shouldn't have broken up.
-
Nice to see a Silver-y Age take on the X-Men. BTW Michael Fassbender is going to be a star.
-
that the trailer for this wouldn't look good. Thing is, you can cut almost anything to look good (perhaps not Big Mommas House 3). Especially when they're spending millions on the look alone. I actually think this will be quite decent and on its own merit might have been a great start to a franchise. The problem for me, and what already bothers me about the story/characters used is that the continuity within the film universe is stiffed, and they stiffed it with X3 and Wolverine. I don't mind changes from the comic universe because it's not the comics, but I don't think it's asking too much to include characters because they're right for the story than as set dressing, or for them at least to realise if they've used a character in a previous film and their appearance in a later film contradicts that, they don't use them. The decisions Fox made in the past have ruined X films for the future for me.
-
Scotland is in Britain. He's not English but he is British.
-
and I'm a lifelong x-men fan. However the trailer, however deceiving it may be, has actually made me raise an eyebrow. I'll be in line unless it's universally bad mouthed upon reviews
-
I liked, "Kick-ass". I'm sure Mathew tried to make the best X-men movie he could. This trailer gives me hope that this will, at least, be better than "Last Stand". And to those disappointed that there's no Wolverine...we got Aronofsky to cover that : )
-
I loved every bit of that flick. Oh, so you're cool with an 11 year old girl hacking people up or blowing them away, but it's unacceptable that she says the word CUNT! Grow a pair and go see the movie. And no, I sincerely doubt you can kick my ass.
-
I finally added my thoughts to the X-MEN FIRST CLASS trailer I posted.
-
to me at least ;) is the fact that they are actually going to tell a proper story. Let's face it, X-men 3 was a rushed piece of why-the-fuck-did-you-make-it-sort-of-cool-but-fucked-it-up-anyway-in-the-major-departments and the Wolverine flick was sold purely on the action (which sucked) and Jackman's BO-record and goodwill with the audience. This one comes from a different place, as far as I can tell. And I have good hopes everyone involved knows that as well.
-
all the actors look like they belong in 2011...not the early 60s
-
Still can't bring myself to give a damn.
-
That's really what you wanted to see Harry? You might want to throw a "NO HOMO" in there somewhere.
-
If they had only had THE first class - Scott, Jean, Bobby, Warren, and Hank - we would probably all be high-fiving each other in anticipation of this. But too many red flags have gone up. Don't fuck with our religion mutherfuckers
-
Seriously if you guys buy into this shit you'll get another X-Men film featuring Turd-Guy and Bitch-Girl. Throw in Prof. X and cream yourselves silly. Sorry but w/o Cykes, Marvel Girl, Iceman, and Angel then there is no first class. Because this other cast is the D-List of Xavier students. And WTF is Emma doing here?! Continunity is fucking all over the place. Fox greenlight this shit because they don't care and they knew the fans who support this wouldn't care either. I hope this shit bombs!
-
Err look at a map dude, Scotland is in Britain this makes him British.
-
I just hope that this movie isn't laced with dialogue "gems" such as: "Why are you doing this?!" "You were was born to do this"
-
In a general sense, I agree with your sentiments. Everything you just typed is probably exactly how they want you to anticipate it :) That's not a bad thing by the way, it just means that they know how to sell this flick, HOPEFULLY because they have a damn good one on their hands! God save the spleen.
-
That's why I said reboot.
-
I think it'll end up being the best of this summer's Marvel films. If not monetarily, then certainly critically.
-
...but it looks good and I'll always be a sucker for Xmen
-
"because that's what the audience knows" seriously, 13 little or CGI-shrunken dwarves (dwarfs, dwarves, fuck you) can have personality. GIVE IT TO THEM! In other rants, I just thought about the fact that the Hobbit is really supposed to be a book for children. Wonder how Peter's gonna sell it then, and whether it's gonna be more 'mature' to keep it in line with the film series. *gulp*
-
I think that i just shit myself.
-
Is badass! Seeing a more accurate helmet is enough to make me see this film. Yup.

he has absolutely no emotion on his face as he lifts that battleship out of the water.
-
My also fave bird (SR-71) of all time rendered in HD (gasp). Magneto about to CRUSH the russian nuclear sub (wake up, big classic X-Men moment!) with "dramatic face acting". The Great McAvoy as Wild Chuck. Emma Smocking Frost finally to grace the big screen (and I guess she will be the TALK after-the-movie). My Beautiful Rose as Lady Moira. The director/writer duo from Kick Ass (they have balls) having "Elsewhere/Alternative Universe" fun with our beloved mutants. If the young kids act like the Misfits cast, I will be lucky happy. BTW, about this Darwin fella, just check out the Peter David's X-Factor monthlies or trades (particularly the last issue, centered on him, heh). Don't care about the continuity (non) issue. Every writer, work and media (movies, comics, games), they are totally different beasts, some shite, some great. And great hope to see this particularly beast kicking the proverbial geek ass! Cheers.
-
I am most excited about GL and Thor, but I have a feeling that the main actors of each will be their biggest letdown Cap looks nice from some of the pics and teaser, but Joe Johnston is still the director X-Men First Class, I liked when I heard it was about Magneto and Xavier, but am not convinced on filling it up with so many mediocre characters and think they could cheapen it or take away from the characters that really matter So with that I really have no idea, but I have a feeling that none of them will be 8/9 out of ten movies and none of them will completely suck, so my guess is that: 1. GL 2. X-Men First Class 3. Thor 4. Cap
-
I'm surprise you haven't admitted yet how barium enemas excite you. Or maybe you have. I might have missed that. P.S. Get better big fella. Take care.
-
I loves me some BEAST
-
Make it happen.
-
Ryan Reynolds may end up sinking Green Lantern's ship but I still am holding out some hope. Thor worries me. I get the feeling that Captain America will be at least solid if not better, and this X-Men movie is going to take people by surprise. I also think Transformers is going to end up being a big winner this summer. I don't really know what I base these opinions on.
-
This will rock sufficiently.
-
this looks DOPE as hell (right down to the SR-71!!) please be good!!!
-
The Eurasian looking dude?
-
When it's hit by Tom Rothman? The same thing that happens to everything else.
-
saw the teaser thing for this recently, the wife looked over at me and said "you complained a lot after number 2, but you will still see this won't you" sadly thats true, like the battered wife syndrome
-
Emma Frost is a teenager and Xavier is in his 40s in Wolverine: Origins, yet in this film, set decades earlier in the 60s, Emma and Xavier are young adults roughly the same age? Yeah... I thought not. FAIL. >:P These guys clearly just want your money and don't care a bit about the story in this "prequel". I'll save my money and use it to see Capt. America again.
-
1. its a movie 2. it's a movie about comic book heroes 3. go get laid. end of line
-
I just think that after 2 they are going to really try to come back strong. Seeing all out Transformer war/invasion in IMAX 3-D will probably be quite an experience. It'll be Michael Bay style for sure, but it should be fun. What else do we really want from a movie about transforming robots anyway?
-
it's not the First Class from the comics. Yes, we know the continuity's fucked up because of Wolverine Origins. At least with the dumb mistake of adding an Emma Frost character in that film, who by the way, was only called Emma Frost in the promo material, never in the movie (she was never given a name in the movie itself and in the credits, she was only Emma. Besides, she wasn't a telepath, so she was EFINO for the credits). It's a different story with different characters, most of which we've never seen on the screen before. It's a different interpretation of the X-Men mythos. But the core of this is about Magneto and Xavier. Doesn't matter who the students are. It's about the ideological battle between Charles and Erik. So stop bitching. You can't change who the mutants are. Just see the film and see if it works on its own merits.
-
What's the song in the trailer?
-
Since people seemed bothered that in the X-Men movies she appears to be in her 30's, I figured I'd offer up a solution for you all. Think of it this way, let's say she's in her 60's in the X-Men movies. Well, she's a shape-shifter. Wouldn't you rather be some hot supermodel instead of some old hag? So there you have it.
-
Then I snapped out of it, remembering what a fucking disappointment X3 was, and would this really be any better? Well, this is about the original X-Men right? Do you see them? Who the fuck are these mutants??? If they can't get the most basic fucking thing right, that being the original X-Men roster, what else will they fuck up? Everything. Fuck this. I guess I'll still watch it though. I'm just not likely to pay to see it in the theater.
-
...but why are the all styled 2000-ish? WTF? Hollywood has done it again...
-
the X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer looked good too...... :/
-
A superhero movie, directed by Vaughn, set in the sixties, with one of their biggest franchises? At the very least, its breaking the mold. It's absolutely the opposite of hiring Brett Ratner to make X3. Literally, the most 180 degree shift in business viewpoints of "what do we do with this property" maybe ever in business. From hiring Ratner to finish a trilogy, to making this? Huge. And letting them include some weird, voyeuristic scene with Prof X and magneto lounging together enjoying a mutant sex show? Seriously? That is awesome. I've held out hope despite all the negativity surrounding this project since the beginning, and this trailer makes it look like I was mostly right all along. Vaughn is 3 for 3 so far in my book, the material is great, its ballsy, its certainly not cliche in the least, and Fassbender is the fucking man. Even if, somehow, it does end up sucking, I'm just glad it happened. It's cool as fuck that this movie got made.
-
That thought this would suck and that Thor and Cap wouldnt. Think again and eat your words. This, at least looks smart. I have always said you can tell so much from a trailer, and so far Thor is a big loser and Cap, well we will see. Really really excited about the Wolverine script. Harry hope your doing great.
-
Did I miss something? Did anyone else notice this? "Published on: Feb 10, 2011 4:50:24 PM CST Alright - now that I've watched it a dozen times with earbuds in..." That is what Harry wrote at 4:50 Central. Then, at 5:08 Central he wrote "Can't wait to see the X-MEN FIRST CLASS Trailer - but I must... damn slow net!" In the intro he said he liked it and praised it to the heavens. Then almost 20 minutes later, he says he still needs to see it? Huh? What? Am I confused?
-
read my above post.
-
...I'll pay my dollars and see it. A good teaser.
-
Being an actual SR-71 this time is a very nice touch ( since the Plane was developed in the 60's. )
-
I can't believe I just said that.
-
I'd be the awesome Six-Pack Monster Cock.
-
every single person here --- lova or hata --- expressing a knee-jerk reaction based on nothing --- less than a piffle of nothing. A generic, Marvel Comics movie trailer that fires off a bunch of rapid-shot close-ups of characters you recognize. An Easter egg hunt, that "surprises" because you all expected it to look awful, based on your previous faiths. As if they haven't figured out how to put together a movie trailer by now. Wow, how common. I have faith in "awesome!" and "meh" both raising their hand and calling each other names. I have faith that the movie will be garbage. It's a fucking X-Men movie. Garbage is the series' mutant ability. I have faith that it will be someone's favorite X-Men movie, ever. I have faith that it will end up making more money than either THOR or CAPTAIN AMERICA. I have faith that some of the above faiths I have espoused will eventually have to be reconfigured because they will fall short of reality. I have faith that I'm going to start hanging out over @ Twitch.
-
I just saw where Harry posted that he indeed saw it and was able to post his thoughts. But what was up there before youposted your thoughts? Just a little odd I guess. Anyway, I haven't seen any of the XMen movies because they just looked so... eh. But this looks pretty good. Maybe I'll watch this and then watch the others. At least they'll be in order.
-
to all the other X-men trailers. And it worked better than Captain America and Thor as well.
-
Looks sweet
-
Why does Magneto have a gun in his hand while they're watching JFK on the tv?
-
Guy is the reason Xavier started the Xmen.
-
While I do have a thing for retro superheroes and cold war hokum, this continues the awful trend of trying to make the prequels seem relevant by having some real life disaster or world event actually involve or be caused by mutants. First it was Three Mile Island in "X-Men Origins" and now it turns out that mutants took care of The Cuban Missile Crisis too. Thanks for the save, bros! Now, if in the sequel, they send everyone to the Living Island, kill 'em all off, and replace them with the proper "All New X-Men" like in the goddamn comics, well, then maybe it'll all be worth it. But they won't. Fucking pansies.

I'll need a telekinetic roofie to sit thru this film...
by AmazinSpidey82
Looks like shit to me, but willing to admit it will most likely be better than X3. You can tell Fox doesn't have any faith in this project, they blew the opportunity to run a Super Bowl commercial last Sunday and it was the highest rated Super Bowl in history with 111 million viewers tuning in. To add insult to injury, the game was aired on various FOX networks, so it's not like they couldn't sneak it in and shave off a few million for ad revenue lol. Yikes, this will be one of those movies that can either stink so bad people like it, or amazingly sweep the rug from under everyone's feet. Peep my blog post about it...http://kungfutreachery.blogspot.com/2011/02/pardon-mebut-what-figgity-fuck-is-this.html
-
I feel so relieved while watching the trailer. I hope it delivers!
-
yelling about revolution and shit then he's interrupted with news of the cuban missile crisis. My guess anyway.
-
Those opening comparison shots between the old Professor/Magneto and the young Charles/Erik were a great way to set up this "prequel". And I really, really, really dig Michael Fassbender as a young, angry, badass Magneto making people stab themselves with knives. Fuck yeah. I dogged on First Class a LOT before this. I'm not a fan of Kick Ass, I thought the continuity conflicts were dumb and smacked of amateur moves. I thought the character choices were poor. But now that I've seen this trailer, I'm stoked. And I'm so glad we're not going to have to see a young Cyclops and Jean Grey. I'm ready to see new characters. And if Azazel is teleporting around and we'll see a young Mystique whoring up the place (which I can't WAIT to see... a shapeshifting manipulator getting what she wants in high school), we better see the birth of Nightcrawler too.
-
Granted, but I think what the poster meant was that he didn't sound "English" as that is generally the case when someone is referring to a Britsh accent. Otherwise it's a Scotish accent ...or Irish. Otherwise it's just semantics.

I no longer care about the lazy and ill-thought out inclusions of Emma Frost and Professor X in the 70s set Wolverine, or other contradictions like Magneto's helmet being seemingly new to Professor X in the first movie. I don't care about those things any more. I want to see an angry, young Magneto and the first X-Men getting involved during the Cuban Missile Crisis fighting dirty Commie bastards and hateful Americans who don't want to give blacks seats in the front of the bus. Fuck yeah.
-
I love all the retro super-science tech we get in that scene where Charles puts on the Doc Brown-esque headgear for the first Cerebro test. We need more of that, but with Stretchy-Guy and RockMan.

The "cure" is shit and doesn't work. Magneto got dosed multiple times and his powers were already returning in that end scene. Besides, did you expect to go all Mumm-Ra? I'm pretty sure that a hot semi-nekkid chick keeps guys glued to their seats more than Ampata the Inca mummy girl.

They want Bryan Singer to direct X4. Word is he wants to make his original two part sequel to X2 and bypass X3 The Last Insult entirely. He originally planned for X3 to have to do with Jean Grey's, death rebirth and evolution as the Phoenix.... X4 would then have to do with Jean Grey's unbalancing and perversion into the Dark Phoenix by the White Queen (a part which would have been written for Sigorney Weaver) which may explain her introduction here. Jean Grey would plead with Scott for him to kill her resulting with her birth in space as a being reminiscent of the Star-Child in 2001: A Space Odyssey. I could only hope that a few years would have passed between those two movies allowing for Jean to give birth to twins: Rachel and Nate. That last part was mine. The rest was from Bryan Singer's original script treatment for X3 & X4.

Now while i may be amped up to see the xmen again on screen in a complete origin story... Time Paradox abounds.... Cyclops is the older brother not havok! Where's cyclops? And if havok clearly seen is in his 20's here, by the present time wouldnt cyclops be 40 in theory? Yes while magneto and charles worked together to form the idea of the xmen in the begining. according to the comics, magneto went bad because a group of humans killed his wife and his rage turned inwards. That was not during the 60's! According to fox in the wolverine origins movie, Which was set in the 80's he found young emma frost but here she's in the 60's looking older. WTF? i didnt know you can age backwards. The continuity is so screwed up!!!!! ugggh it makes me feel disgusted they could have fixed everything instead of totally rewriting the xmen to fit THEIR vision. does marvel have any say-so in this project???

seriously. i'm officially on board with excitement and anticipation.
-
I did not expect to be excited about another X Men movie. That looked fucking awesome!!
-
Oh, had they only waited for Bryan Singer and made truly kick-ass X3 and X4 films. Instead, he made a decent but somewhat forgettable Superman movie (MORE Lex Luthor) and we got that arbritrarily-plotted, middling effort known as "The Last Stand". Why not just call it Custer's Last Stand and have a gay, golden-haired general stand in for Professor X? It pisses me off to this day.
-
Well you know he's gonna be killed off first, hollywood rules still apply. lol.
-
Now looking forward to this. Why did I ever doubt Matthew Vaughn?
-
Looks good I do have a few quarms with this like everybody else!!! 1) I like Nickolas Holt from his time on Skins but as Best meh, They should off Kept Fraiser Crane and used CGI to make him look Younger (Season 1 of cheers lol) and CGI large beast like feet and Hands and give him huge muscles! If I can sit though 2hrs off Tron Legecy with a CGI Jeff Bridges then a few shots of CGI Young Beast Frasier Crane would off been worth it for continuy as well as giving ing Frasier a fantastic version off Beast where he goes though his Transfomation to Blue Beast and Blue Best could off been the Phstpectic stuff they used on X3 (Beast was the only good thing on that movie!!!) 2) They Should off Kept the Same Girl as Mystique I mean whats Rebecca Romijn-Stamos doing latly that she cant be in an X-Flick Hell they could get a young Bird to play her shy human form. 3) This should really be My first Point Why Havok Really!!! Cyclops Mother fuckers if if not Cyclops somone eles that could fit that roster better cos aside from Havok I understand there Choices for the Roster! Points 1 and 2 were mainly due to the fanboy of the first 2 films and I hate when they change actors when you could work around it with the bloody 200 Mill they probebly spend to make this flick. On the Plus side Trailer looks Good I had my Doubts due to the casting decisions but the dury is still out on The Kid from Wanted as Young Proff X. We shall see Personally I`m looking forward to CAP!

You have all the big Mutant "leaders" in this movie:
by Merlin_Ambrosius
Charles Xavier, Magneto, Sebastian Shaw, & Moira MacTaggert. I for one would like to see a Polaris / Magneto showdown just for fun. If Bryan Singer does get his way and do his own take on the Phoenix story, wouldn't Proteus (Moira's son) make for a perfect villain and counter point to her powers? Having said that I wish they had cast an actor with an English accent for Magneto for continuity. On an unrelated note, Robert Pattinson has said he would like to play Gambit: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1591541/twilight-star-robert-pattinsons-comiccon-beatles-moment.jhtml And before you jump all over that idea, he would be bringing a tremendous fan base to the X-Men movies, which would translate into huge ticket sales, and more X-Men movies!
-
Pretty sure there isn't one for pasty white folks. =P
-
Reason enough to see this film: those punims and those voices. I just love me a mellifluous British accent. Better than Stewart and McKellen, even.

Singer fucked character continuity himself starting with the first film. All the X-films thus far are bland and ashamed of being based on a wild flashy comic.
by reflecto
This actually has crazy-looking mutants and the yellow costumes. It's a start AFAIC. I can handwave the character mix because Singer and co. fucked all that up long ago. It's down to Vaughn to come up with an intriguing mix for an Elseworlds-style continuity and I think/hope he's done that here. I just hope they don't give Singer back the franchise because honestly, he is a mediocre director who dragged the X-films into a mired monochrome dirge, and he cannot direct action. Give it to Blomkamp, Edgar Wright, Vaughn again, ANYONE who will try something wild and colorful. Wild is what the X-Men are about.
-
Seriously I posted in 3 or 4 talkbacks in the past couple of days and emailed AICN that I had the ENTIRE Looper script and not a single person bit. What gives? Is it already all over the internet and I just didn't realize it? Whatever. It's a great read and I'm psyched as shit for this puppy to hit the big screen. Oh yeah. This looks decent as well

What if this movie isnt a prequel to the Singer X-Men but to the actual first class of X-Men?
by dailysportspages
Look at what this movie really is about character wise. Its pretty much the scrapped Magneto/Xavier movie repackaged as a prequel to the creation of the X-Men. Notice how we dont see any X's on anyones uniforms? Thats because this "team" is not the X-Men yet. And so we have certain characters that seem out of place. This other female Angel, the wrong Summers brother, Azazel, Banshee, the Hellfire Club, etc... What this movie is doing is laying the groundwork for a new X-Men movie universe. One that replaces the one we have been watching the past decade. This new Angel will most surely die. Havok will most likely move on somehow and merely serve as a bridge towards getting his brother involved with Xavier. Azazel is a one time villain to be killed off, etc... By the end of the movie we will have 3 groups. The newly formed Brotherhood of Mutants. The Hellfire Club. The young soon to be X-Men. And probably the last scene will be Xavier and Beast welcoming the first batch of recruits to the school for the gifted... Warren, Jean, Bobby, and Scott. And thats your First Class.

Hence why Banshee is in the picture. Moira leaves to Muir Island and takes young Banshee with her. Oh the fun times they will have. I hope Banshee is 18 in this movie, or the laws of consent in Scotland are lower than they are in the states :)

Obviously, there is a lot of action in the movie, but Vaughn insists there's more to it than that. He said, "It's got a lot of teenage angst. The 'Twilight' girls will like it."

...'Wolverine: Origins' on dvd.

After some thinking, I've concluded this film will be ruined by X3 law of too many mutants in 85mins = bad narrative. Somebody want to make an equation? Angel, Iceman, Marvel Girl, Beast + Cyclops in the 60's...just how awesome could that have been? Really really charming and different.
-
Tonallyt 1st Class is on the money, loved the whole look of it. Fassbender's star is rising, grat casting choice.
-
The epic canvas of the Cuba Missile crises is pretty genius - give the characters a new dimension with a lot of oomph! <p><p>Looks like Michael Fassbender is gonna own this <p><p>Great music too. <p><p> BTW, i f we didn't already have the perfect James Bond, then Michael Fassbender would've been a good choice.

Already looks better than X3 and Wolverine, not hard though I suppose. I hope it's good. We're are going to have to forget about continuity though but that's fine if it'll make me forget about the last 2 films.

I think this could be as good as the two Bryan Singer movies people... and plus it's got Kevin Bacon in it. What's not to love!?!?

they will make him more attractive.

Why didn't they explain the Emma Frost's age difference in a teaser trailer. Whyyyy goddammit, whyyyy. This film must suckkkk. Why do I keep ignoring explanations for Mystique not instantly aging after her powers were taken away. Whyyyy....Why? Because then I wouldn't be able to troll in this completely unempowering way.
-
No Halle Berry ruining it. Cuban missile crisis? Sign me up.
-
.... Take two. <P>First, say it with me, SINGER DID NOT SCREW CONTINUITY. There were two previous scripts and a Michael Chabon treatment submitted prior to Singer coming aboard. ALL OF THEM FEATURED OUT OF COMIC CONTINUITY TEAM LINE-UPS and ALL OF THEM had a spotlight on Wolverine, as he was an epic fanboy cash cow. Fox rules. Not Singer's. Christ, they were titled Wolverine and The X-Men, if that's any indication. </P> <P>One read like "in his prime" Claremont's X-Men as channelled through Jim Lee and the other might have been a live action version of the 90's animated series with insane liberties taken with Magneto. Welcome to Fox, kids. </P> <P>The bitching about the Blackbird? You're on the Goddamn Internet. Look it the up. What's that? It was officially unveiled in 1964? The Cuban Missile Crisis happened two years prior to that? Well, I guess Bryan Singer and Jamie Moss couldn't possibly conceive of a scenario where a functional prototype came into play. </P> <P>To the Continuity Freaks. THIS IS NOT MARVEL COMICS' 616 X-MEN CONTINUITY. Some of the most respected comic adaptations have taken considerable artistic license. Christ, even the Marvel Studios films take considerable liberties. Treat it like an alternate reality/Elseworlds/GODDAMN SEPARATE AND DISTINCT CINEMATIC ENTITY. Yeah, I'm talking about Havok and Emma here. And see somebody about that OCD. And this is coming from a lifelong comic reader. You make us all look bad with your inane bullshit. </P> <P>And until further notice, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, which committed more crimes against basic elementary school math than it ever did continuity, does NOT EXIST IN THIS DOJO. Singer is just not worried about that now. He's still trying to tunnel his way out of the WB internment camp he landed in several years ago and is on lock down in until he craps out a Jack The Giant Killer movie. </P> P.S. If someone spots my wayward first attempt at this post, please shoot it on sight. It's tasted human flesh and wants more.
-
I know someone was complaining about the hovering SR-71 but that's in a scene where Magneto is making a submarine hover in the sky, so you'd presume he's making the plane stationary as well. Or is that a logic leap too far?
-
Will this be the first one? Or does Captain America come out first? I know it would never happen, but I would have loved to see the Spider-Man reboot happen in the 60's and the Superman Reboot happen in the 40's. It would be cool if this movie looked like Mad Men. I hope they don't make the mansion modern on the inside, it needs to look like the 60's.

by The Founder
I see no point with trying to connect the limitations that the real SR-71 has to the movies. Their is a lot of sh!t that's been in way to many films that doesn't do what it does in the real world. The Xmen isn't the first to do this and it won't be the last.
-
I don't know why people blame Ratner for X3? The man was brought in just to shoot the film. The story and direction was already set. Blame Fox and Singer. I'm still not convinced that X3 would've been different if Singer had stayed on board.

X-2 was a great movie that fell apart a little at the end
by SithMenace
The opening with Nightcrawler was fantastic, and the mansion raid was one of the best sequences ever in a comic book film. Unfortunately it seemed like it didn't really know where to go from there. Of course Singer just took pieces of continuity and stuck them together, but he was able to construct a couple of great films. In fact I consider the original X-Men to be the launching point for the current wave of superhero films. Then 2 years later you had a worthy sequel and a really good Spider-Man film, even if neither of them were completely true to the characters. But that totally sealed the deal for the popularity of superhero films. It was mostly hit and miss before then, with one superhero film every few years or so. In fact with the exception of 2 out of 3 lousy Superman sequels and Burton's Batman in '89, I don't think we even had any superhero films in the '80's. The 90's brought one half decent Batman sequel out of three (Returns), Darkman, Spawn, and The Punisher starring Dolph Lundgren. That's pretty sad. I'm thankful that this genre has taken off the way it has. Sure, there's a lot of crap, but there's also some really great superhero films so far in this century.

-
(She's the wrong age! He shouldn't have hair! Where's Cyclops if this is the First Class?!?!") are missing the point of what makes a good film. You want a movie that is true to the spirit of these characters, a movie that FEELS like an X-Men movie even if every last detail isn't as you think it should be. Bottom line, this is a very good trailer. Doesn't mean the movie will be good (Phantom Menace had a great trailer, folks) but I am cautiously optimistic about this, even if it turns out Beast is the wrong shade of blue.
-
It could definitely work, but the key is to make them terrifying. Start the third act of the film with a sequence of a teenage mutant hiding, then being discovered and hunted down and murdered by a Sentinel. Make them feel even more dangerous by showing innocent civilians as collateral damage. Come up with a really cool 60's design, give them great mechanical sound fx like the tripods in War of the Worlds, make them so loud they echo through the streets and show a bunch of wide shots of an army of 30 ft. sentinels tearing up the city looking for mutants. Cinema gold.
-
Thank GOD they finally got it right.
-
Giant Robots are always rad. I'd love to see some Sentinels in the 60s. Speaking of which, can we get a Fantastic Four reboot in the same time period, for !#$%$ sake!!!
-
"Don't blame Ratner! Singer would have done the same thing!" Bullshit. X-Men 1 and 2 are proof enough that Singer would have at the very least made a quality film, which is more than Ratner can do. Ratner is the very definition of a hack: he has no style of his own and copies the styles of others. His filmography has no overall identity.
-
I have been pretty optimistic about this as I really like Matthew Vaughan's work and I think Fassbender and McAvoy are two of the most nuanced actors working just now but the lack of images etc has worried me a little. However the trailer has made me quite excited about this. I don't care about tortured continuity because the X-Men comics has continuity that isn't that simple and linear (basically because the X books became Marvel's cash cow and they launched series after series after series and with each reiteration of X-men the continuity became messed up.) Anyway, I just think of movie adaptations being like 'What-If' or 'Elseworld' versions of the comic. I do find arguments like 'I don't remember mutants being involved in the Cuban Missile Crisis' to be incredibly ridiculous because to be honest I don't remember a bunch of Evil Mutants moving the Golden Gate Bridge across San Francisco Bay to Alcatraz and that only happened a few years ago. In Made Up Never Happened Land. Yeah, this looks good.
-
but X3 really is not THAT bad. Sure there's some horrible one-liners, especially from Juggerdouche, but I felt like the movie was suprisingly well-made. I still enjoy watching it actually.
-
but...same hang up i have with Kick Ass (most of the screen time), Spiderman 2 etc. the cinematography looks/feels like a Alex Ross knock off or aping. Why do this in actual film? For a consistent style across the budget and fx? I dunno... Apart from that were totally cool so far.

There's definitely more color in this than in the other 4 X-movies combined.
-
What if they used footage from the previous films to indicate that this is supposed to tie in directly to them? Wait .... they did. I don't care if they stay true to the characters anymore. Why start now? Has this series ever given characters like Cyclops respect? Besides I hardly recognise any of the characters in this series. Aside from Magneto & Xavier which haven't actually been treated too badly in this franchise, the others seem to be the characters in name only. I heard Banshee isn't even Irish. To be sure?
-
I'll take that over the s&m leather fetish of the original movies, but this still looks kindof dumb. And, I mean, why not go with the *actual* original team of Prof X, Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Beast, and Iceman, as they *originally* looked in the comics? I don't understand. It's like they said, "hey, let's sort of do the original comics, but completely change it for reasons that defy all logic and reason."

-
it's actually the best one. but it wouldn't exist without the attention to detail in creating that universe in 1 & 2.
-
You mean with emphasis on a character named Angel who does absolutely NOTHING and is not integral to the part at all? Or a Magneto who betrays how he was set up and developed in the first two movies simply for the sake of being "evil"? Or an insistence that "THIS IS THE LAST X-MEN EVER" with casualties that are shown, in the end, to be meaningless because mutants will get their power back and Xavier has a new body? There's nothing about X3 that even remotely suggests its the best one.

Seriously, I wanted to punch Ratner in the face after watching that. It was a HUGE let down. Not even in the same ball park as the first two films.
-
I really just wanna see each individual mutant's powers displayed at maximum vindication. That's why we like and what we expect from each comic book to movie adaptation. And this trailer has some Watchmen tinge to it. I like it.
-
But this looks promising. Granted, in my mind this is totally an Elseworlds type of story since Fox has f**ked up everything canon for the most part. I skipped X-Men 3 and Wolverine for obvious reasons, but I really enjoyed X-Men 2 (still do despite some flaws). This one is totally off track as far as the comic continuity is concerned, but as a film it looks to be entertaining. I'm on board but it's totally Elseworlds (What does Marvel call there alt. universe stories?)

That I too would like to see Marvel in full control of this property some day. I would like to imagine the possibility of a proper X-Men film. On that note I would also like to see a proper Transformers or G.I. Joe film (yes, they are toys for very young children, but great stories could be told via film....could be). I'd like to see a proper Daredevil film too for that matter.
-
Would not be my first choice to play Charles Xavier. I have never really liked his skills as an actor, and even though I enjoyed "Wanted' I thought he was miscast. Better to have chosen Guy Burnet or maybe Ian Harding. But definitely not McAvoy. He has that bad boy vibe that tends to turn people off, and that is not wht you want in this picture. Not to say that he won't nail this performance, but from what little I saw in the teaser, I hold little or no hope for him to do well.

And I ain't gonna allow that...

Pretty funny. Neeeeeerds! The blonde guy describes James Bond as having a golden gun. Perhaps comic books are THE ONLY THING HE KNOWS ABOUT IN LIFE.
-
... but I said the same thing about Batman Begins.
-
Did we see the faces of Stewart or McKellen? Did we hear their voices? No, not at all. We saw footage from the previous films that merely showed the backs and sides of the characters they portrayed. This was a teaser, there was hardly any dialog at all except those two lines at the end. If they used some old footage to connect viewers to those movies then thats ok. Lets not forget that this trailer already proves a bunch of continuity issues with the other movies. 1. The castle is different. But that can be explained away by it being destroyed and then redone. 2. In X-2 we saw a couple of scenes of Hank McCoy. He was not blue or furry and was very much human looking, and a little on the buff side. First Class has him already going through his mutation, going from a lanky skinny scientist into Beast. 3. Emma Frost was a teenager in Wolverine Origins which was based anywhere between 20 and 30 years after the events of First Class. But in First Class she is shown as being a full grown adult woman, as well as part of the Hellfire Club. As far as i know she does not have any sort of reverse aging powers. 4. There is absolutely no mention of the Hellfire Club at any point in any of the other movies. Yet here we have two members of the Club plus Erik and Charles enjoying a good time watching a young Angel Salvadore show some skin in what seems like a Hellfire Club type of scene to me. 5. When Charles and Erik go to recruit young Jean they are visibly older than they are in First Class. And its obviously not in the 60's. So its after First Class, yet the two leaders are obviously still partners and mention how they are putting together their first team. Completely out of whack with the events of First Class.

Looks like Bryan Singer confirms my suspicions in a recent interview.
by dailysportspages
"The time line is different... It wouldn’t physically fit for him to be the brother of Cyclops. We take some liberties on that. There are notions, but, um, I don’t want to give away certain interrelations, but let’s just say there are some things that do adhere to the comic books and do so in a way the fans will get a kick out of. And those things can, perhaps, move forward into the future…. That’s one reason we wanted to call the film ‘First Class’ even though it isn’t the ‘First Class’ in the comics as fans know it. You couldn’t really tell that story without going even earlier and explaining how they got there and how it came to be. I liked the title, so we kept it, but this is a prelude in a way that will eventually lead to the [scenarios] that fit in more clearly with the ‘First Class’ comics and situations." Read the rest at the following link. http://www.superheromovienews.com/marvel/x-men-first-class-june-2011/untitledpost-1 To me it looks like this movie is a sort of quasi reboot. Sort of like what they did with Star Trek. Is he maybe talking about there being some sort of time travel going on, some 'days of future past' type action? I remember watching the end of X-3 and thinking 'man i wish this was all an alternate future and that in X-4 Bishop shows up and takes us all back so things can get restored to their rightful place'. Well First Class might just be that 'rightful place' without having to continue on with the bastardized storyline of the first three movies. Yes, those movies exist, yes its part of the story, but if Singer can somehow tie them all up at the end of this movie as some sort of alternate universe that they somehow escaped... that would be pretty neat. Then like i said before, this movie could be more of a prequel to the real First Class we all have come to know.

The Balckbird was developed in the 50s and 60s, first started it's operational history in the 70s and was only revelaed in the 80s. So, a blackbird type airplane used by tis super-heroes in the 60s is actually a smart way to show that they had the top most advanced technology in their use, because that's what was happening then with the Blackbird.

So I doubt that it matters what she was in XMO:W though I really wish they'd throw out that movie a la Highlander 2. <p>A minor point I thought I'd throw out there.
-
that the first appearance of the X-men was in '63, a year before the civil rights bill was to be passed. I always hated the first X-men movie for being set in the present, they completely all but ignored the actual political climate in which the X-men were first being read, a climate in which being different was very difficult. I wonder if the movie will acknowledge the ideals of Prof. X and Magneto being inspired from Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X respectively. this movie could be a great period piece if they don't mess it up.

I know it is a movie about Mutants...but fuck be historically accurate.
by conspiracy
It is an A-12...this can't be an SR-71 as this is before Johnson blew the CIA's private Airforce's cover and the USAF demanded their own 2 man version. A-12 was never armed, well one was when Kelly Johnson attempted to interest Mac the Knife in an interceptor version, but was turned down. No A-12/SR-71 would ever in a million years do what that thing did in the clip...couldn't do it if it wanted too...was as nimble as a garbage truck..and at Mach it takes dozens of miles to turn it...at Mach 3.2 it took the better part of 3 STATES too make a U-turn in it. A low flying zoom zoom plane it was not. Sloppy sloppy writing...shows they didn't give a fuck about their craft and bother to make is as real/accurate as possible while still injecting the fantastical Mutant element into it. The premise is good...but when they fuck up simple things like that, and the age issues, and...you know the rest of the story is gonna blow cum out it's hipster ass. Lets hope Capt. America is more accurate and therefore more fucking Professional than this appears to be.

Look, let's be honest here: the first X-Men movie was horrible. From Halle's $2 Prostitute wig to the "let's fuck with the timeline" shenanigans (Iceman & Rogue the most blatant examples) However, Singer somehow got cult status ... and then came Superman Returns: a metrosexual peeping tom stalker with baby mama drama. yeah ... nice "creativity" there fuck-o His statement about not being able to fit everything within the timeline and uses Havoc as an example, then his answer is ... well ... bullshit. If the movie is about the First Class, then all that's needed is Xavier, Cyclops, Jean, Beast (non-blue tks), Angel, and Ice Man ... and The Brotherhood: Magneto, Blob, Pyro, etc. The cool factor of having Emma and her boys in the movie is also the middle finger factor that creates "not being able to keep with the existing timeline" but ya know what? wtfever ... and to the douchebag posting "lol nerds who cares lol pwned" ... ummm ... you're posting on AICN: wtf do you think that makes you (besides a douchebag of course)

The 1st Two X-Men Movies Were Awesome! If Bryan Singer Had Been Allowed To Film 3 & 4...
by Merlin_Ambrosius
...back to back, they would have blown Iron -Man right out of the water!
-
...the comic book, that is. They are clearly dealing with some kind of nuclear confrontation (CMC, duh), and it's in the 60s. That's all I got. Without crying about the switch-ups in characters (which I do hate, but fuck it, it's not my movie), it looks watchable. I recently re-watched the first X-movie, and I have to say, it's not that magnificent. Also watched X3 again. Fairly awful all around, it has moments, but egad is it a cheezmo fest. Emotional shit going down, being handled by an inferior director = not good. I'm going to go ahead and say that the first time I watched WOLVERINE, I enjoyed it immensely. Was it because I was still drunk from the night before and had smoked a bowl to take the edge off? Was it because I waited to see it until a couple of months after it came out so as to view it without the fire-tinged glasses of mob hatred? Possibly. But I watched it again just to check, and I hated it less than X3. What I am saying is that I am in a state of equilibrium regarding my contempt, or lack thereof, for the X-franchise. This new trailer has some pretty good moments, and the atmosphere has a certain gravitas, what with Kennedy and all that. I do love the outfits, I do love that shot of Magneto from the back with his 'new' outfit, and all the deep red and purple that was missing from the Singer flicks. I'm quall, is what I'm saying.

If having a fucked-up timeline with multiple contradictions and convolutions ISN'T X-Men, then I don't know what the fuck is, my brothers and sisters(?).

Could never sit through that yawn of a film. The scene with Storm and Toad is unforgivable. Refuse to watch it again. 2 was good no problem there, except Cyclops was a panzy. Happy he was killed off. 3 had what all comic book movies are supposed to have....ACTION!!! Singer made comic book movies dull. He should stick to dramas.

Can't imagine any clearer commitment to "action" than replacing the Sentinels with a bunch of plastic rifles.<p> I tried to warn everybody that Ratner sucked when he directed that Godawful, unnecessary remake of MANHUNTER, RED DRAGON, but you didn't listen...

...Lucas' prequels are cutsie "Look, remember this scene/character from the other ones?!" moments cash cows that consistently bring down the franchise with each movie released (with the exception of EMPIRE). The X-MEN movies are just a more serious version of this; instead of cute moments where you're supposed to remember past scenes and characters, there are story and character continuation meant to connect the films. Only, the X-MEN movies thus far have been incrediably mediorce considering their source material. I don't want these movies to have continuation. I want a re-vamp, a re-launch, a do-over. I want a REAL X-MEN movie. Which means having Jean, Scott, Hank, Warren, and Bobby being the first class ...because they ARE the first class. I don't want prequels desperately trying to uphold the stories of X-MEN, X-2, and X-MEN: LAST STAND. Putting in characters just because the film makers think they'll look cool or alternate versions of characters who the film makers think were popular ("No, no, it won't be Nightcrawler, it'll be a RED Nightcrawler!"). I want real storylines with weight and character development. Not Xavier and Eric bitching with each other AGAIN, and romance storylines straight out of TWILIGHT or a CW show. I-WANT-THE-MUTANTS-TO-HAVE-REAL-POWERS. Not a bunch of actors running around in rubber/leather costumes spouting out cgi smoke and lights or flying around on wires. The "Peace was never an option" line is solid, but, that's the problem with these movies; the dialogue and performances are relatively strong but, the action, stoylines, and characters themselves all feel like they come from a TV movie. As if the film makers are embarassed having to do action scenes and show mutant powers. That they'd prefer to just have Xavier and Eric sit around debating civil rights and Wolverine running around screaming looking as if he's on the toliet. They need to combine the seriousness that they obviously feel for the subject matter with the action, look, and feel of a blockbuster. Not just write cool monologes, have them delivered by talented actors, then have set pieces that look like they're straight from MUTANT X. Where's the blockbusters of my youth?

that is left to say about this whole "X Men" concept? it's all been stretched as far as it will stretch. if they are going to just make more of these films in the hope of attracting an audience that wishes to watch people dressed in gaylord outfits smack each other about in a very gaylord way, surely then they are going to lose out in terms of box office to Captain America?

Havok is from the future folks, he is still Cykes younger brother.
by dailysportspages
The character of "Man in Black" is probably one of the many time altering characters in the X-men mythos. Could be Nimrod, Trever Fitzroy, or even Mr Sinister with all his intellectual prowess. Havok could very well be from the future, that way he can be younger than Cyclops and still appear before him in the continuity. They just have to make it so Havok refuses to join the XMen and leaves, but not without causing Xavier to "feel" that Havok has an unbeknown to him familial psychic link with another mutant that has a similar type of power. Xavier seeks him out and thats how you get Cyclops and the team leader of the First Class. But most likely the writers looked at themselves and realized that the whole Corsair/Shi'ar alien storyline is just a little too out there and have decided to just make Alex be the father of Scott. Neat and Easy. Besides, you still have Vulcan if you need a brother, and Cable if you need a son, or is it grandson from the future... i forget. There are way too many Summers in Xmen.

Not bad, but not good enough to get me to hand over $10 to the girl selling tickets at the theatre.

I'm hoping he's not the whiny prat I expected him to be. If they're shifting as much focus as they can on Lehnsherr's turn to Magneto then I'm guessing he will be for the sake of keeping that line finely drawn between the two friends. A shame really. But I'll still hold on to a small shred of hope for the opposite.
-
i said the trailer makes it look like they have gaylord outfits and are fighting in a gaylord way. i rather quite like the whole Captain America concept, and i really hope that the trailer is misleading. most boxers wear gaylord shirts, but under no circumstances would i call them gaylords. there's a distinct difference between fashion and sexual persuasion, my apologies and i trust that i have clarified as such.

Anyone that uses the Storm/Toad scene in X-Men to dismiss the film is reaching
by SithMenace
Yeah, that scene was stupid with a couple ridiculous lines of dialogue, but the film as a whole works and is really good. Were liberties taken with the timeline and the characters? Sure. But as a film about mutant superheroes, it worked very well.

I just dont get it. The X-Men has like 50 years worth of material from the comics. How hard is it to build a movie around 50 fucking years of material. Not only do you have pictures but you have 50 years of dialogue and back story too. It amazes me how they get these people to do these movies that have no idea about the comics. I could see straying from the source material if these movies were half decent but they all sucked. Im not a movie writer but i could come up with a movie script in two minutes that better than every Xmen movie combined. Here goes: The movie opens with the epic battle between the original first class of xmen and Magneto. They get their asses kicked and get captured. prof. X has to recruit a new team to get them back. Introduce Wolverine, storm, Colossus and Nightcrwler, etc. Audience gets to know about new team as they train to take down Magneto. Bam, A fresh take on Giant size Xmen. How hard was that?

Although on some level I did enjoy Wolverine and thought it was better than X3...but that isn't saying much. After seeing Black Swan, I cannot wait to see Aranofsky's Wolverine movie, should be pretty bad ass.

Are taken with every super hero movie. Deal with it. Movies are a different medium than comics, and things are changed for the sake of cinema. If you can't deal with it, don't watch the movies, simple enough. Movies are not made JUST to appeal to the fanboys of the comics. If changes are made in attempt to appeal to a wider audience, so be it. Just because pimply faced fanboys can't deal with it, doesn't make it wrong. That's not to say that every change that is made is right or makes sense, all I ma saying is I understand why they do it, if I agree with it or not.
-
Obviously liberties are going to be taken when adapting any medium to the big screen. Thats not the issue. The issue is if the XMEN franschise was popular enough to garner several movies deals then why wouldnt the ovie makers stick with the themes that made the series so popular. I could care less if they skip over some things or make slight changes here and there but thats not what we get as fans. For instance. Xmen fans have waited literally decades to find out Wolverines origin story. These guys give it away during the opening credits. Does that make sense? Or why call it the XMEN: First Class if its not the first class that spawned 50 years of mutant mania. All we want is quaility ala The Dark Knight. That was the best comic book movie because it captured the essence of the Batman and the Joker without being a slave to the comics.

kgin, I wholeheartedly disagree that this is better than the Captain America and Thor trailers. This trailer had a depressing song, a bunch of uninteresting mutants and had very little in plot or action to intrigue. hongkongcavalier, X-Men was an origin movie. It was important to see how Rogue and Wolverine made it to the Mansion. The film was flawed but did feature some fun twists and turns. X2: X-Men United was a cohesive, atmospheric action movie in which you got to see excellent fights and every mutant's power come in handy. The dynamics of having Magneto team up with the X-Men and of having Wolverine come to grips with his past were really exciting and the film ended in foreboding fashion. Singer's Superman certainly was as much a romantic comedy as it was an adventure film. Sure, it could have used some real fight scenes but as an origin movie, I liked it. It wasn't brilliant but it was artfully crafted and wasn't annoying. X-Men: The Last Stand was terrible. Whenever the film started to get run into the ground by its own stupidity, Singer or the writers thought they could distract from this by killing off another character. The action scenes were alright but the film didn't have the atmosphere or fun confrontations and tensions of X2. subtitles_off, Captain America would be the Scott Pilgrim of 2011 if not for the fact that it will more than double Scott Pilgrim's entire US gross in its first three days.
