METAL HURLANT (aka HEAVY METAL) Is Coming To TV!!

Merrick here...

A French DVD company called WE Productions (site HERE) has joined forces with United Humanoids to produce an anthology series called METAL HURLANT CHRONICLES.  METAL HURLANT is, of course, the French publication distributed in the U.S. as HEAVY METAL.

Legendary artist Jean "Moebius" Giraud, longtime METAL HURLANT alum, was a founding member of United Humanoids - Pierre Spengler is also there, and will Executive Produce the MH series.  Spengler was a producer on the first three SUPERMAN movies (the Christopher Reeve years), SANTA CLAUS: THE MOVIE, and much more.

Per a write-up in Variety (HERE)...

After presenting the pilot to buyers at Mipcom in October, the company pre-sold the show in more than 20 territories, including Italy, Germany, Poland and Russia. Shingle is negotiating with a French TV channel and a U.S. distributor.

[EDIT]

...each half-hour will be shot in English and French and will cover one or two stories adapted from the original graphic novels.

[EDIT]

The series' first two seasons, comprising 12 episodes, will be delivered next January.

Here's a teaser for "Red Light", one of the show's first installments...

Back in 1981, HEAVY METAL was adapted as a big screen animated anthology by director Gerald Potterton -  a project on which Ivan Reitman was one of many Producers.  That film is available HERE, and is now orderable as a Best Buy exclusive HERE (although word is the Blu may've been canceled).
