Zooey Deschanel, who stands atop a lot of Superman fans’ lists of potential new Lois Lanes, is negotiating to star in the Fox sitcom pilot “Chicks and Dicks.”
As the star of such recent big-screen smashes as “Yes Man” and “(500) Days of Summer,” you’d think she’d be too busy to commit to a TV series. But in the big movies she’s not playing the lead character, and she might be excited about the Fox sitcom affording her a meatier part.
Also, maybe somebody explained to her that Lois is only in maybe one scene in the next "Superman" movie?
In “Chicks,” created by screenwriter Liz Meriwether (the Natalie Portman comedy “No Strings Attached”), she’d play an elementary school teacher, fresh from a break-up, who finds herself moving in with a trio of immature young men.
Portman and Deschanel co-star with James Franco in the upcoming Middle Ages spoof “Your Highness.”
Deschanel’s no stranger to less time-intensive TV roles, having turned up in Showtime’s “Weeds,” Syfy’s “Tin Men” and sister Emily’s hit Fox procedural “Bones.”
She was also in the hilarious premiere of HBO's "Funny Or Die Presents":
