What have you done to The Behind the Scenes Pic of the Day’s eyes?!?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!

I love, love, love this photo, from one of the seminal American horror films ROSEMARY’S BABY. This is an office picture, not a set photo, but the offices are where 80% of the filmmaking process is centered… from script revisions to department head meetings to day after day of planning… and, I guess, it’s also where OCD actresses keep their crazy checklist board.

Mia Farrow’s list and the look on Roman Polanski’s face makes this one of my all time favorite pics that I’ve run in this column. Hope you guys enjoy it!.

Tomorrow’s behind the scenes pic shows a creator meeting his creation!

    Devil worshippers

    by PhilipMarlowe

Just listened to the commentary to Lewton's movie the Seventh Victim. Lewton wanted the writer Dewitt Bodeen to get some experience with real devil worshippers. This was during WWII. He found a group in New York City near the same neighborhood as those in Rosemary's Baby. Bodeen reported that they were about as mundane as those in Rosemary's. Said it was a bunch of old men and women sitting around drinking tea and knitting while they were casting spells against Hitler.

    by blackwood

Look, guys, no one condones Polanski's crime. I appreciate your moral outrage. I don't think it's untoward to bring it up. I still like his films. I still think he's a genius director. I can separate the man from his work, but it's hard. I will honestly feel a lot more comfortable when he's dead, or (haha) does his time, because then his work will be the only thing worth talking about. This is a neat picture. I especially like the chain, and the possibility that Mia was tied to it for some creepy, non-Polanski reason.

Oh, come on guys. We've all been there, right?

    by RosemarysBabyDaddy

There you are, sitting in Jack Nicholson's hot tub, minding your own business, when from out of nowhere jumps this hot 13 year old girl - a bottle of chilled champagne in one hand and a hand full of Quaaludes in the other - ready to party. Lights are lowered, you put a little Seals & Croft on the LP record player, one thing leads to another, and suddenly your pants mysteriously fall off. Then HER pants mysteriously fall off. And because it's the 70's, and nobody's wearing underwear, next thing you know, your penis accidentally enters her va-jingo (actual medical term) and you both make with the sex. Three minutes later (rough estimate) the deed is done, no need to clean up since you were inside the hot tub, you put on your clothes, she puts on hers, she calls her mom to come pick her up, you get your driver to take you to In-and-Out burger for a little post-in-and-out celebration, End of Story. Roman's the victim here, really. Since the "incident", he's been forced to make semi-decent movies in Europe instead of creating masterpieces in the movie capital of the world, Hollywood, USA. Isn't that punishment enough? WHO'S WITH ME? Nobody? Fuckin' prudes...

Polanski does not exist in this dojo

    by Cobra--Kai

damn_dirty_ape, i'm not sure if aicn isn't playing 'a clever game' by constantly giving Polanski coverage... after all they know they always get a big outcry reaction which will drive up the hits and the ad revenues.
But when THE GHOST WRITER came out last year they couldn't keep themselves from posting stories on it, literally 3 or 4 a week for a couple months. It was a fairly low key political thriller with not a great deal of appeal for your typical aicn reader - so why did they cover it so intensely?
I smell a rat (and not just a child raping one).

    Plead Gulty

    by KingKrikkit

Here is what happened, Polanski was arrested and charged, he used his fame and popularity to plea the case down to a "unlawful sexual act with a child", plead guilty then never appeared for sentencing. Under law if he is ever extradited to the U.S. he will not have to stand trail for the act he committed, he can be immediately sentenced because of his guilty plea. There is no statue of limitations because he plead guilty, he is not being tried for that crime. There will be no need to call witnesses, or force anyone to relive the case, its done, its time to pay. He CAN however be tried in a separate trial for fleeing in which Im sure they throw the book at the sick mother fucker, becuase many of you who are too young to have a young teenage daughter don't understand what this monster did, this was a little girl, not a woman. He didn't have consensual sex with a 17 year old, and oh sure "that would be OK because hey, it was the 70's", he drugged and anally raped a young girl against her will and no matter how much time he spends in "exile" in his home country, he needs to pay, period.

"It was the 70's, people did that"... um no, rape was rape and still is I don't care what year it is. "...but hes Roman Polanski, he SO talented".. fuck you, who cares how talented he is as a director, if Hitler was the best Piano player in the world would he be forgiven for his crimes? Polanski is a sick fucking douchebag, I don't care how talented he is, he did this himself, he made that choice, he is a monster. "But he paid for his crimes, hes been in exile for 30 years"... what, exile in his home country? If you were chilling in France and went into exile in the U.S. and were unable to go to France, is that punishment? Jesus, the guys not from here, he hasn't suffered a day over this. By they way i'm wondering if anyone ever wondered how many other kids he's been diddling in France in the past 30 years...I'm wondering if all the moronic Polanski supporters would ever leave their own kids alone with him?

I have no need of facts - I have read words on paper and seen the disgusted look on the faces of my peers - I have opinion to show me the path of righteousness. I wield the mighty sword of the moral majority and the Daily Mail, unquestioningly accepting the "truth" as presented to me. I am JUSTICE! My moral compass is everyone who speaks vaguely convincingly on a subject - fat bloke down the pub told me that Woody Allen was the adopted father of that girl (he wasn't) and I have blindly accepted it! Why let the facts get in the way of a good story?! Due process, regardless of guilt or not, is meaningless to me - why bother with a trial when I, the paper and fat bloke down the pub know that he's guilty. Get the filthy pervert on the gallows swiftly! I'm not looking to make excuses, and I suppose it is a widely held and accepted belief that Polanski is a paedophile but to convict him before trial seems wrong, particularly with the vehemence that some seem to muster as if it was their kid he'd (allegedly) touched...As for Woody...he's a dirty old man and it's creepy as all hell but the dude has broken no's not gonna stop me watching Love and Death once a year...but may make think twice if I'm ever invited to his house for dinner...

(Wikipedia)

  • Feb. 9, 2011, 12:09 p.m. CST

    by RMA

As I said - if you'd taken the time to read the whole post - I'm not making excuses for him. The facts are widely covered and entirely plausible, and if he's ever convicted of it I'd be happy to see him in jail for the rest of his natural born. What I can't stand is lynch mob mentality from those who KNOW nothing but have made the decision that he's guilty based on what has been presented to them - and that's hardly enough to convict without trial, mostly being posturing presented by papers...due process and the facts can go out of the window? I'm just never going to be that guy...I'm also in a job (social work) that's seen the impact of being wrongly accused of such heinous and unforgiveable crimes...devastating doesn't cover it. My wife is also a social worker and has seen the impact it has on kids affected by sexual abuse. You won't find any excuses or forgiveness for paedophiles being made in the Adams household. I am one for JUSTICE, however only in the correct sense. I find kangaroo courts and the mob's that bay for blood on the back of them a touch disturbing...very much a "shoot first, ask questions later" mindset.

  • The Pianist won best picture, and has 96% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and an 8.5 at imdb. And his next film, Carnage, stars Christoph Waltz, Kate Winslet, Jodie Foster, and John C. Reilly. Now, kangaroo courts guys aren't making a damn bit of sense anymore. And having a box office failure is worse than prison?
What are you guys on?????????

  • Feb. 9, 2011, 12:32 p.m. CST

I hated the Pianist, why does everyone love it?

    by golden tribw

And that was before I even hated Polanski (I only had a vague idea of the controversy at that point). I'm pretty ambivalent about Adrien Brody, certainly don't have anything against him (for instance I really liked him in THE JACKET and in SPLICE), but the whole movie was just so horribly overwrought. Don't get me wrong, obviously there were unspeakable atrocities worse than anything we ever see in THE PIANIST, but the way it's presented it just seems to be trying so desperately and transparently to tug at your heartstrings I can't give it any credit.

  • Ghost Writer has an 85% on rotten tomatoes, btw. Someone is rating his films highly, despite your claim that no one sees his films apart from critics. His films have never been box office smashes. If that's what you define as a fate worse than jail, so be it.

  • Feb. 9, 2011, 12:50 p.m. CST

    Rosemary’s Baby is really good.

    by Keats

Excellent psychological, slow building horror. It’s not a lot of fun to watch though, as it is sort of anxiety-inducing, and the ending is depressing. But the fact that it can manipulate my emotions in that way is a testament to its effectiveness as a film. I also like The Ninth Gate a lot. Similar in tone to Rosemary’s Baby, but not quite as oppressive to watch. I generally check it out whenever it comes on TV. I like that that these movies are both low key and slow paced, and use the supernatural aspects of the story sparingly. I think M. Night Shyamalan owes a lot to Roman Polanski. The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable both sort of mimic his style.

AICN isn't glorifying Polanski by discussing his films. I don't buy it. Also, if he's guilty of a crime, he should get his due process. I don't care for mob rule either. You end up with a Simpsons episode of heathens with torches. Let's be better than that.

She could have been 50 years old, and it still would have been illegal and disgusting. Also, I'm very sorry to hear you suffered similar abuse at a much younger age. That is horrible and neither you nor Polanski's victim deserved such a thing.

smudge, Chinatown is one of my all time favorite films

since I first saw it as a teenager long ago. But, that was way before I knew Pedanski's history. Thing is, that if he did his time and paid his debt to society, I might have some respect for the law. But he fled the country like a coward and then he continued his pederastic ways abroad with Natasha Kinski and I'm sure many others including his current wife who was 18 when they married. As it stands I cannot in good conscious support the man in any way, shape or form, which means I will never watch one of my favorite movies ever again. Unless, he turns himself in and faces justice.

  • Many of those guys are in this talkback, actually...and some have shown interest in underage girls, too. I've seen many of the dudes who are calling for a boycott (or in some cases, death) of Polanski, make lewd comments or jokes about all the things they'd like to do to Miley Cyrus before she was legal. Even if you were to argue that they were just joking, it comes off as fake and hypocritical to go from calling for the grisly murder of Polanski for raping an underage girl to joking with other guys about wanting to statutorily rape Miley Cyrus.
The truth is, some of them are mad at Polanksi because he got away with doing what they'd like to do themselves. By railing against Polanski in a talkback it makes them feel self-righteous and less guilty about their own urges which is why this topic is never far from their mind.

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 11:11 a.m. CST

Yeah, bobo, that's it, the old "you're all just jealous" argument

Come up with something original, why dontcha, instead of that retreaded flawed psycho-babble bullshit. You don't actually believe that crap, do you? I guess all the people that hate child murderers, which is pretty damn near everyone, secretly wish they could murder children? Oh, and Miley Cyrus does nothing for me.

  • Like I said, I've seen specific talkbackers here joking about what they'd like to do to Miley Cyrus before she was legal. There was even a talkback where talkbackers were counting down until her 18th birthday. If you're not one of those talkbackers and find that thing repulsive and offensive to your sensibilities.....then you have no reason to take offense to my comment.

  • " remove spaces as per usual. "
Wow, killik.....where did you find this gif of Miley shaking her ass before her 18th birthday? Yet in this talkback killik writes:
"Polanksi is more than a pedophile,he is a child rapist and unfortunately one of the worst kinds: with enough power to get away with his crime."

You can't compare Miley to a 13 year old. If you're trying to equate them you're trying to justify the sexualizing of a child. Freak.

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 12:42 p.m. CST

    Name-calling, BSB? You seem angry.

    by Bobo_Vision

"You can't compare Miley to a 13 year old." So you're okay with a bunch of talkbackers, like yourself, talking about gang-banging a 17 year old girl, and that's assuming your interest in Miley only started when she turned 17, and I'm the freak and idiot?
I didn't say that sexualizing a child was okay. I'm against it. I'm also against a bunch of middle-aged men joking about gangbanging an under-aged girls...yet you do that, BSB. So how is that okay, BSB, while Polanski deserves death in your opinion? I know the answer, I stated it above. But since you're so passionate and angry about this, maybe you can shed some light on it.

    by BringingSexyBack

Yes, I'm perfectly okay with a bunch of guys messing around about a woman of age (we are talking about 18 here, right? You did read the comments?). How does that compare with Polanski who ACTUALLY plied a 13 year old girl with alcohol and drugs, then raped her and fled justice? Please explain THAT to me.

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 12:56 p.m. CST

    by Bobo_Vision

"Yes, I'm perfectly okay with a bunch of guys messing around about a woman of age (we are talking about 18 here, right? You did read the comments?)."
No, she wasn't 18 yet. Her birthday wasn't until 3 months after that talkback. The guys in that talkback were lusting after 17 year old Miley, but they threw in the bit about what they'd like to do to her when she's 18 to make it seem like it's legit. That's like if you were to see a 13 year old girl and say like you said here,"It's a party in her Va-jay-jay....'pon her 18th birthday of course", with that last bit thrown in to cover yourself.
Do you really think adding that last bit about doing those things to underage girls only after they're 18 makes it okay, BSB? And I don't condone what Polanski did, but I think some of the most extreme reactions are coming from people who would like to do things to underaged girls themselves.....LIKE YOU.

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 1:05 p.m. CST

    by BringingSexyBack

Your supposed indignation is interesting, considering the average age of consent is 16. I love how people - LIKE YOU - come up with strawman arguments to come to Polanski's defense. Anything to try to silence his critics. Why exactly do my "extreme reactions" bother you so?

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 1:22 p.m. CST

    LOL again

    by Bobo_Vision

BSB is avoiding the question. I have no indignation btw....that is reserved for the angry mob who wants the head of Polanski. I just find it very ironic and interesting that many of the same people in this angry mob were participants in another mob that were joking about gang-banging a 17 year old girl. Don't you find that interesting?
And I have no intention of silencing Polanski's critics, feel free to vent all your anger, BSB and others. There will be many more Polanski talkbacks for you to continue to do so, and you can continue in this one as well - I won't stay long. To be honest, I'm not even a huge fan of his films, I like some of them, but Ghost Writer bored me. But I DO dislike angry mobs, and am shedding some light on this particular mob and some of its participants.

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 1:44 p.m. CST

    by BringingSexyBack

Actually, your question was answered. Sorry that your attempt to turn the tables on Polanski detractors didn't work though. I'm no fan myself of irrational angry mob mentality, but some crimes justify it, don't you agree? Particularly those of the heinous, pedophiliac nature. Or do you think all criminals are to be treated in a dignified manner?

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 1:56 p.m. CST

    BSB and choppah

    by Bobo_Vision

Whether you guys claim your comments were jokes or not, you have to understand, your reactions to Polanski are not normal. The average person does not get into a rage when they see an advertisement for a Polanski film, and if it's a film that might interest them, they are able to separate his crime and watch it without thinking about a man raping a 13 y.o girl in graphic detail like some of the people here repeatedly describe and clearly think about out.
At the same time, the average person doesn't joke about wanting to pork Miley Cyrus or Dakota or Elle Fanning. Not even anonymously on the internet. There's a hypocrisy there that the people who joke about such things are also brought into a frothing-at-the-mouth rage like Pavlovian dogs when simply shown a picture of Roman Polanski and start talking about how he should be decapitated, etc......
Just because the average person doesn't do the things you guys do on these talkbacks, it doesn't mean they are okay with child rape....they just aren't obsessed with it. That's the key. It's like the joke about the guy who goes to the psychiatrist and when shown Rorschach ink blots, all he sees is sex....or in the case the talkbackers here....child rape...

  • just as long as his art's good. And there is a difference between someone being an asshole or an adulterer or even a racist and someone raping a 13 year old girl. Child rape is not just a little peccadillo (do you like that word?) of an eccentric artiste. It's a heinous crime and I really do not understand how Pedanski's supporters just want to sweep it under the rug.

  • Feb. 10, 2011, 2:01 p.m. CST

    And Choppah....

by Bobo_Vision were definitely the least offensive, if offensive at all, as far as the people on that Miley Cyrus gangbang talkback, and you were even against them at first....but you should have stood your ground in terms of your disgust with them instead of giving in and joining them.

You see, when I enjoy a great film I tend to admire the filmmaker. I refuse to feel any admiration for a child rapist. If you're able to, good for you. But I don't think it's beyond your comprehension to understand the outrage against this fucker.

    Wagner was not a Nazi

    by Keats

He died in the 19th century. Antisemitic, but not a nazi. Lovecraft also was a total racist, but his stories are still awesome. Find me someone who died in the 19th century who wasn’t at least somewhat racist and I’ll give you a dollar. Also, being attracted to late-teen girls is not perverted. Women who have recently completed puberty (generally 15-20 years) are the most fertile and most likely to be able to successfully give birth to and raise a child. Therefore, for a man, sexual attraction to them is the opposite of perverted. Why would an old man be sexually attracted to different women than a young man? But of course a thirteen year old is still in the early stages of puberty, so that is another matter. Still not technically pedophilia though. And if it wasn’t consensual it doesn’t matter what age she was. And choppah, it’s ridiculous for you not to watch Chinatown. Do you think Polanski gives a fuck if you watch Chinatown or not? How does that affect anything? Artists tend to be fucked up people in one way or another, so if you only can appreciate the art of those that you would let babysit your kids, then your choices are going to be severely limited.
