Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with today’s Behind the Scenes Pic!
I love, love, love this photo, from one of the seminal American horror films ROSEMARY’S BABY. This is an office picture, not a set photo, but the offices are where 80% of the filmmaking process is centered… from script revisions to department head meetings to day after day of planning… and, I guess, it’s also where OCD actresses keep their crazy checklist board.
Mia Farrow’s list and the look on Roman Polanski’s face makes this one of my all time favorite pics that I’ve run in this column. Hope you guys enjoy it!.

Just listened to the commentary to Lewton's movie the Seventh Victim. Lewton wanted the writer Dewitt Bodeen to get some experience with real devil worshippers. This was during WWII. He found a group in New York City near the same neighborhood as those in Rosemary's Baby. Bodeen reported that they were about as mundane as those in Rosemary's. Said it was a bunch of old men and women sitting around drinking tea and knitting while they were casting spells against Hitler.

Look, guys, no one condones Polanski's crime. I appreciate your moral outrage. I don't think it's untoward to bring it up. I still like his films. I still think he's a genius director. I can separate the man from his work, but it's hard. I will honestly feel a lot more comfortable when he's dead, or (haha) does his time, because then his work will be the only thing worth talking about. This is a neat picture. I especially like the chain, and the possibility that Mia was tied to it for some creepy, non-Polanski reason.

damn_dirty_ape, i'm not sure if aicn isn't playing 'a clever game' by constantly giving Polanski coverage... after all they know they always get a big outcry reaction which will drive up the hits and the ad revenues.<p> But when THE GHOST WRITER came out last year they couldn't keep themselves from posting stories on it, literally 3 or 4 a week for a couple months. It was a fairly low key political thriller with not a great deal of appeal for your typical aicn reader - so why did they cover it so intensely?<p> I smell a rat (and not just a child raping one).

Here is what happened, Polanski was arrested and charged, he used his fame and popularity to plea the case down to a "unlawful sexual act with a child", plead guilty then never appeared for sentencing. Under law if he is ever extradited to the U.S. he will not have to stand trail for the act he committed, he can be immediately sentenced because of his guilty plea. There is no statue of limitations because he plead guilty, he is not being tried for that crime. There will be no need to call witnesses, or force anyone to relive the case, its done, its time to pay. He CAN however be tried in a separate trial for fleeing in which Im sure they throw the book at the sick mother fucker, becuase many of you who are too young to have a young teenage daughter don't understand what this monster did, this was a little girl, not a woman. He didn't have consensual sex with a 17 year old, and oh sure "that would be OK because hey, it was the 70's", he drugged and anally raped a young girl against her will and no matter how much time he spends in "exile" in his home country, he needs to pay, period.

As I said - if you'd taken the time to read the whole post - I'm not making excuses for him. The facts are widely covered and entirely plausible, and if he's ever convicted of it I'd be happy to see him in jail for the rest of his natural born. What I can't stand is lynch mob mentality from those who KNOW nothing but have made the decision that he's guilty based on what has been presented to them - and that's hardly enough to convict without trial, mostly being posturing presented by papers...due process and the facts can go out of the window? I'm just never going to be that guy...I'm also in a job (social work) that's seen the impact of being wrongly accused of such heinous and unforgiveable crimes...devastating doesn't cover it. My wife is also a social worker and has seen the impact it has on kids affected by sexual abuse. You won't find any excuses or forgiveness for paedophiles being made in the Adams household. I am one for JUSTICE, however only in the correct sense. I find kangaroo courts and the mob's that bay for blood on the back of them a touch disturbing...very much a "shoot first, ask questions later" mindset.

And that was before I even hated Polanski (I only had a vague idea of the controversy at that point). I'm pretty ambivalent about Adrien Brody, certainly don't have anything against him (for instance I really liked him in THE JACKET and in SPLICE), but the whole movie was just so horribly overwrought. Don't get me wrong, obviously there were unspeakable atrocities worse than anything we ever see in THE PIANIST, but the way it's presented it just seems to be trying so desperately and transparently to tug at your heartstrings I can't give it any credit.

Ghost Writer has an 85% on rotten tomatoes, btw. Someone is rating his films highly, despite your claim that no one sees his films apart from critics. His films have never been box office smashes. If that's what you define as a fate worse than jail, so be it.

Excellent psychological, slow building horror. It’s not a lot of fun to watch though, as it is sort of anxiety-inducing, and the ending is depressing. But the fact that it can manipulate my emotions in that way is a testament to its effectiveness as a film. I also like The Ninth Gate a lot. Similar in tone to Rosemary’s Baby, but not quite as oppressive to watch. I generally check it out whenever it comes on TV. I like that that these movies are both low key and slow paced, and use the supernatural aspects of the story sparingly. I think M. Night Shyamalan owes a lot to Roman Polanski. The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable both sort of mimic his style.

since I first saw it as a teenager long ago. But, that was way before I knew Pedanski's history. Thing is, that if he did his time and paid his debt to society, I might have some respect for the law. But he fled the country like a coward and then he continued his pederastic ways abroad with Natasha Kinski and I'm sure many others including his current wife who was 18 when they married. As it stands I cannot in good conscious support the man in any way, shape or form, which means I will never watch one of my favorite movies ever again. Unless, he turns himself in and faces justice.

Many of those guys are in this talkback, actually...and some have shown interest in underage girls, too. I've seen many of the dudes who are calling for a boycott (or in some cases, death) of Polanski, make lewd comments or jokes about all the things they'd like to do to Miley Cyrus before she was legal. Even if you were to argue that they were just joking, it comes off as fake and hypocritical to go from calling for the grisly murder of Polanski for raping an underage girl to joking with other guys about wanting to statutorily rape Miley Cyrus. <p> The truth is, some of them are mad at Polanksi because he got away with doing what they'd like to do themselves. By railing against Polanski in a talkback it makes them feel self-righteous and less guilty about their own urges which is why this topic is never far from their mind.

That's like if you were to see a 13 year old girl and say like you said here,"It's a party in her Va-jay-jay....'pon her 18th birthday of course", with that last bit thrown in to cover yourself. <p> Do you really think adding that last bit about doing those things to underage girls only after they're 18 makes it okay, BSB? And I don't condone what Polanski did, but I think some of the most extreme reactions are coming from people who would like to do things to underaged girls themselves.....LIKE YOU.

BSB is avoiding the question. I have no indignation btw....that is reserved for the angry mob who wants the head of Polanski. I just find it very ironic and interesting that many of the same people in this angry mob were participants in another mob that were joking about gang-banging a 17 year old girl. Don't you find that interesting? <p> And I have no intention of silencing Polanski's critics, feel free to vent all your anger, BSB and others. There will be many more Polanski talkbacks for you to continue to do so, and you can continue in this one as well - I won't stay long. To be honest, I'm not even a huge fan of his films, I like some of them, but Ghost Writer bored me. Whether you guys claim your comments were jokes or not, you have to understand, your reactions to Polanski are not normal. The average person does not get into a rage when they see an advertisement for a Polanski film, and if it's a film that might interest them, they are able to separate his crime and watch it without thinking about a man raping a 13 y.o girl in graphic detail like some of the people here repeatedly describe and clearly think about out. <p> At the same time, the average person doesn't joke about wanting to pork Miley Cyrus or Dakota or Elle Fanning. Not even anonymously on the internet. There's a hypocrisy there that the people who joke about such things are also brought into a frothing-at-the-mouth rage like Pavlovian dogs when simply shown a picture of Roman Polanski and start talking about how he should be decapitated, etc...... <p> Just because the average person doesn't do the things you guys do on these talkbacks, it doesn't mean they are okay with child rape....they just aren't obsessed with it. just as long as his art's good. And there is a difference between someone being an asshole or an adulterer or even a racist and someone raping a 13 year old girl. Child rape is not just a little peccadillo (do you like that word?) of an eccentric artiste. It's a heinous crime and I really do not understand how Pedanski's supporters just want to sweep it under the rug.

Women who have recently completed puberty (generally 15-20 years) are the most fertile and most likely to be able to successfully give birth to and raise a child. Therefore, for a man, sexual attraction to them is the opposite of perverted. Why would an old man be sexually attracted to different women than a young man? But of course a thirteen year old is still in the early stages of puberty, so that is another matter. Still not technically pedophilia though. And if it wasn’t consensual it doesn’t matter what age she was. And choppah, it’s ridiculous for you not to watch Chinatown. Do you think Polanski gives a fuck if you watch Chinatown or not? How does that affect anything? Artists tend to be fucked up people in one way or another, so if you only can appreciate the art of those that you would let babysit your kids, then your choices are going to be severely limited.
