A whole lot of crazy joins the latest Chuck "Fight Club" Palahniuk adaptation SNUFF!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Snuff is one fucked up book. I'm not even being facetious. Fucked up might as well be the UK title of the book.

It's essentially a lovely family tale about an aging porn star that wants to go out on a world record by having her last video be a 600 person gang bang. The book is told from many points of view, typically from many of the 600 people in the waiting area getting ready to have their moment of fame. We know these men by their numbers ("Mr. 600" etc) and through them we get a harsh view of what personal damages, flaws and strengths go into the fabric of the porn industry.
Palahniuk wrote on his blog today that he's received word from the director of the film adaption (a man by the name of Fabien Martorell) that they've cast their first three actors. Playing Cassie Wright, the porn queen, is Daryl Hannah. Playing Mr. 600, the man who brought Cassie into the porn industry decades before, is Tom Sizemore (what great casting there) and playing a young "talent wrangler" named Sheila is Thora Birch.
I've only read the book once, but it has stuck with me. This could be a very down and dirty Paul Schraderish "I need a shower after watching" kind of flick, with a great off kilter cast perfect for Palahniuk's twisted outlook. Thoughts?

This sounds like a straight-to-video cast.
-
I thought he died after eating his own gunk in that home movie. I liked him in Private Ryan and hated to see his downward spiral.
-
To be one of the johns? Always wanted sloppy 357ths.
-
wow she's been off the radar for a bit.
-
Super. Stoked.
-
Haven't been able to finish any of his novels since DIARY. Hell, I could only get through HAUNTED because of the amazing work done on the audio version. All of his books now are attempts at shock, without focusing on character or story. Someone adapt SURVIVOR already.

I wonder what the real world record for largest gang bang is.??
by jolliff89
anyone know?
-
Honestly, if you think that's a fucked up book, then you haven't read much.
-
I don't see how you make this movie, the book is 2 people standing in line talking for most of it, sure there's allot of flashback, but people are having sex for 90% of the book. Also, i can't believe they will keep the ending as shown in the book, but hey, it's going to be fun watching them try and make this and it not be an NC-17!
-
I hated Choke. I hope this one is better. The casting is sinister laugh out loud perfect.
-
Were they trying to break a previous record or something?
-
during Hurricane Ike, I lost all power and had nothing to do, I drove to a Walgreens and bought magazines rather than finish this book. I was sitting and staring in silence and I still refused to need another page of that shit
-
Turn it off! TURN IT OFF!!!
-
It would be hard as hell but if done right an amazing movie. It's definitely his most ambitious, thought out book. Snuff could be cool but I think, like Choke, most of his work doesn't translate that well to screen. Fight Club had the distiction of a great cast, score and Fincher and even that made what, about $30 million at the b.o. I know it's become a modern classic but few people(I was one of them) saw it on release. Plus it had Brad Pitt so girls were going to see it no matter what.
-
Rant, Haunted, Invisible Monsters, why are we not making these?

Sizemore? In a movie about a record-breaking gangbang?
by WriteForTheEdit
With an older pornstar played by Daryl Hannah? What alternative-universe Hollywood are we in right now? Did Hitler win WW II? Is America on the metric system?
-
Simulated sex is so 80s.
-
Chucks last good book was Rant. Although his next book sounds crazy. It's written like a judy Blum novel about a little girl in hell.
-
Besides Fight Club that was his best book. Lullaby or Diary would be pretty freaky too. Snuff was ok. Pretty short. Way too easy of a read. Like reading Dr. Seuss. I don't fell like he put any effort into it. Clark Gregg did a great job with Choke. Maybe it will turn into that.
-
As much as I loved Survivor, and Choke, and Invisible Monsters, and Fight Club, between Rant and Snuff I am officially done with Palahniuk. This movie should tank.
-
DannyGloversDickblood is.

Bareback? 600th would be like fucking a 5 gallon bucket of lukewarm tapioca pudding.

The first time I read this book, I realized about halfway through that Chuck Palahniuk seemed to be deliberately writing the most staggeringly unfilmable book he possibly could. Then this happens.
-
I guess I'm a little niave when it cums to gangbangs... What constitutes a "fuck"? Do all 600 men have to drill her in the vagina? How many thrusts do they need to count as a fuck? Can they just walk up to her and shoot a load on her...does that count? I mean...what are the rules?! I'm not trying to be a troll...I just really want to know.
-
Fact. Robin Bougie of Cinema Sewer did an expose on that one.
-
At the events I throw, to be officially counted you must penetrate the honored guest in some way (vagina, anus, mouth, nostril, flesh wound, etc...). Once you have achieved penetration, it is acceptable to finish off yourself, but a portion of your offering must fall on the honored guest. Last weekend's honoree was hey_kobe_tell_me_how_my_ass_tastes. You should have been there, it was a hell of a show.
-
Really...flesh wound? You disgust even me, sir. How long does the penetration need to last in order to be counted? It seems to me that there should be a minimum penetration time accepted? Is it acceptable to stick it in for 1 second, take it out and jerk off on her? Also, I'm a perverted middle-aged man just like the rest of you, but I really don't think I'd like to participate in a gang bang.

Choke and Fight Club were awesome. How can this suck?
by Tikidonkeypunch
-
this book was absolutely one of the worst books ive ever and i mean ever ever ever ever ever read. I didn't finish it. A complete waste of time but the movie could be good if they really make an interesting film about porno and what it does ect but they won't.
-
I hate to see that there's no real A talent.. WITH that cast.. but a GREAT director.. could have been something special.. and still could be. The TALENT .. well for the characters anyway, is there.. personally.. I was thinking (and I have ZERO idea how she looks now.. but just mannerisms and.. personality wise) I was thinking Melanie Griffith in my head reading the book. Darryl Hannah COULD be great.. Sizemore could be INCREDIBLE.. but for some reason, when you read the book.. I ALWAYS pictured George Hamilton! Or at least someone very very much like him. As for the person who says 99% of the book is SEX.. did you read the book? It's NOT.. At ALL. It's like the Orgazmo of PORN! The complete and total misdirect and OPPOSITE of sex. The ENTIRE story takes place (well maybe 98%) takes place from various characters perspecitives OUTSIDE of the room waiting to go INTO the gang bang. I will admit.. I never got into RANT, I will be trying that one again.. but I LOVED his first 4-5. Wasn't enthralled with Diary though.. felt more like Chuck just trying to pull a Stephen King.. just wasn't HIS voice.. Haunted, yet again.. not MY cup of tea.. and you want to talk about DISTURBING (this one wins the award). While Snuff was far from my favorites (actually I LIKED Fight Club... ALOT.. really ALOT.. but.. Survivor, Invisible Monsters, Choke and Lullaby all beat out Fight Club.. so it DOES make the top 5.. with.. I'd say Snuff being about his sixth best book just above Haunted.. I have missed quite a few.. but am getting back into reading in a BIG way.. so I'll be working on tackling all of his books again.. Great cast though.. and the POTENTIAL is there.. but.. I thought Choke from what the book was.. was OK.. but a bit of a ground ball .. not quite the GRAND SLAM that Fight Club was.. here's to hoping... although as others have said.. Survivor and Invisble Monsters.. PLEASE!!!
-
Wow, Thora Birch's parents really were porn stars. They were in Deep Throat. Apparently her mother doesn't have any more credits after her birth. Interesting. I'm not judging but interesting considering the character she is playing.

If this movie actually gets made, I have one word for the director: Cumshots.
by Doctor_Strangepork
-
Seriously, it's not like this is going to be a blockbuster anyway.
-
just sayin'!
-
You know- Those chicks who prime the contestants via the hand and mouth service. Darryl Hanna naked on a collection of dark green trash bags taking on 600 men. Oh man this is not going to be pretty. They should Roger Rabbit it. Do a short film adapt of Chucks short story "GUTS" before the main movie plays. Does her character swallow a large group collection of semen. How fucked up is this book.

Dare me, just dare me

I only need to know one thing. What number will Gary Busey be?
by The Reluctant Austinite
-
I watched Celebrity Rehab, and Sizemore was FUCKED UP. Nice to see he's turning things around. Hopefully, he stays clean.
-
Just leave it. Not everything can be a movie.
-
Wasn't really all that... ahem... blown away by it. Although, I figured out the twist (if it was a twist, I just asked someone else how it ended).
-
Is the Survivor adaptation still in the works? I thought they were supposed to make one with John C. McGinley. I also would still love to see a film version of Haunted, would be tricky to pull off and it wouldn't become a blockbuster but it'd still be an interesting piece of filmmaking supported by an incredibly original and inventive work of writing.

How many horrible longshoremen did Jennifer Jason Leigh take at the end of Last Exit to Brooklyn?
by Yaroh_Meringue
Less than 600, I think. That was one of the most awful things I ever saw in a movie.
-
I thought Snuff was ok, but thought the last 2 were AWFUL. Couldn't get more than 30 or 40 pages into Pygmy or Tell All. Did anyone else finish either of those? Kept hoping they'd get better, but every time I picked either of them up, I found them annoying as hell.
-
she was hot back in the day.
-
4 guys at a time wanking it around her trying to get it up for 30 seconds of fucking before being sent to the back of the line again. ZZZZ!
-
Stopped buying his shit after Choke. I just couldn't get into that book. Survivor was good. These days I only read one or two novels per year, usually something sci-fi.
-
I have a real hard time with stories involving people getting their faces destroyed or ripped off. I had blocked Invisible Monsters from my memory. I actually ritually destroyed that book, I found it so disturbing...
-
in regards of Rant. it was but only recently that i read it, and some fractions into it i clocked that this book screams "controversial, excellent film version". i have to disagree in regards of Choke, though - sure, a good many aspects of the novel either just didn't translate to screen at all well or were simply ditched, but i rather enjoyed the film version all the same anyway.
-
I wouldn't want to watch a porn where a woman gets boned by 600 dudes, let alone see a dramatic morality play about the whole thing. I have no interest in that side of the world. Not to mention, the thought of Hannah, Sizemore and Birch involved in said 'gangbang' is depressing enough. Those guys just scream creepy desperation.
-
I also liked her mom in DT and the Candy movies. Great at playing the ditzy blonde with a huge rack. Back when pornos were actually movies. Man, I'm old.

Feb 08, 2011 4:22:06 PM CST Terrible Book by archileachcouldkickyourass Haven't been able to finish any of his novels since DIARY. Hell, I could only get through HAUNTED because of the amazing work done on the audio version. All of his books now are attempts at shock, without focusing on character or story. Someone adapt SURVIVOR already ----------------------------------------------- I totally agree about Survivor, I heard they'd sold the rights years ago, but I may be wrong. I've re-read every book of his upto Rant, which I actually thought was pretty decent and not that shocking at all. have you read it? Not read Pygmy or Snuff yet.
-
It will guarantee lots and lots and lots of boobies. Is the best phalanuik book? Best cast? Doesn't matter! It's the fight club guy= best excuse to push nudity boundarys= box office $$$
-
Who the hell would be stupid enough to finance this and is this the only role Darryl Hannah can get? BTW, Tom Sizemore is a junkie who wouldn't be able to make it to the set two days in a row.
-
Fucking LULLABY! Can you imagine how good that would be as a film?
-
...I would say is his most filmable book and would make a great film. For once, the protagonist isn't some on the edge of society madman, but a normal guy who encounters some abnormal shit.
-

was in Strange Days.
-
This is never going to see the light of day. Pretty much all of Palahniuks books have been optioned since fight club, and some have even had fairly big name start cast. I believe Jessica Biel was even officially named at one point. You can have all the cast in the world interested in the movie, but it doesn't guarantee it will be made. Meanwhile, I also wanted to say that palahniuks books are very "touch and go". However, I read Pygmy recently and it was the first of his books in a while that I've really liked. So to everyone who started reading Pygmy and couldn't get past the POV of a terrorist, or a pretty disturbing scene at the begining of the story, keep reading.
-
...seeing is how she is Carol Connors one of the stars of Deep Throat.
-
wasnt tghis the same thing, but a documentry. that is one of the most depressing films i have ever seen
-
in my experience, are women from fucked-up backgrounds playing a bad hand the best they can. I got to know two of them over a period of some time: nice ladies, very guarded, with some real shit in their pasts. Charlie Sheen broke one's heart--I kid you not. Sweet kid, if you got her guard down. This movie could be tragic...hope they'll find a way to tap into something useful.
-
I heard they were going to make a movie with Jim Carrey but then 9-11 happened and any movie about planejackings got canned. And yeah, Thora Birch is top notch.
-
And I only exclude Fight Club because I saw the movie first and who knows how that may have affected my reading experience. I still greatly enjoyed it as it had enough differences to be interesting. Choke was kind of dull. I was planning to read Diary next. Opinions?
-
Especially ones that get into porn in their early to mid-20s. It's the 18, 19 year olds who are often the ones who have something wrong with them. Or, I should say, they have backgrounds no more tragic than other actresses.
-
True Stories was the last thing I read of his. It's an anthology of supposedly true stories from Chuck's life... like getting his tarot read by Marilyn Manson or going on steroids to investigate a story on steroids. Was okay but not especially memorable. Aside from the image of kid getting his intestines pulled out his asshole by the circulation pump of a swimming pool.
-
"THIS IS SPURTA!!!!!!!"
-
Palahniuk is one of those writers you either out grow or you get tired of his schtick. I'd rather seen an adaptation of Invisible Monsters.
-
But I'd see it. And the Birch casting, considering how messed up the relationship with her and her dad is, actually is pretty nice. And she'll probablyyyyyy show her breasts...Daryl Hannah is also someone who looks like she belongs in a Palahniuk movie.
-
Much better as an HBO series though. I enjoyed what was going on in Pygmy, but Tell-All, his most recent has the same thing happening in every single chapter.
-
and they showed a line of guys waiting for their turn. <p> Ham sandwich anyone?
-
movie? Why not just watch a real porn video. This will be a complete disaster.
-
That was Annabel Chong and that record's been broken several times since. Further, one criticism of AC's gang bang was that there were only 70-odd guys and a number of them rotated through a few times to get the number. Generally speaking all those GB films are boring.
-
The Choppah once did over 50 dried up sagging ginches at Hedonism II.
-
can't imagine the movie would be better.
-
So three is "many" in your books, Quint?
